Borussia Monchengladbach vs Schalke

Another week of Bundesliga action is upon us and the focus of the preview attention this weekend is all on Borussia Monchengladbach versus Schalke. Why? Well, one certain visiting side haven't had the best of starts this season so the odds are offering some interesting reading.

Borussia Monchengladbach have started their Bundesliga season in a satisfactory manner. Dieter Hecking saw his side fire a warning shot to their league rivals with an 11-1 victory over lower league BSC Hastedt in the DFB-Pokal. This was followed up by a solid 2-0 home win against Bayer Leverkusen and then a hard-fought 1-1 draw away to FC Augsburg. Their second home game of the season sees them up against an under-performing Schalke side.

Schalke finished runners-up last season but Domenico Tedesco has failed to re-discover that form this season. An underwhelming 2-0 win over 1. FC Schweinfurt in the DFB-Pokal was followed by a 2-1 loss away to Wolfsburg and then a 2-0 home defeat to Hertha Berlin in the league.

However, the Schalke results begin to look less bizarre when you see that in those two league games they had a man sent off in both. Granted, the sending off in the Hertha Berlin game came in injury time but The Royal Blues also missed a penalty in that game. So it could be said things haven't quite been falling in their favour so far.

Personally, I feel it's only a matter of time before the form picks up for Schalke. They are missing the suspended Yevhen Konoplyanka for this game which is a huge blow and that puts me off backing them to win. That said, I still think that they can take something from this game. I can see there being goals but I'm not convinced that the home side can take all three points.
