It's a couple of weeks to put some ideas together and come up with the best tips for the opening batch of games that will kick start the Italian football season. Let us know your thoughts in here. Italy provided some decent pay outs last season after a barren 2016/17 so let's hope for more of the same this year!
StevieDay1983
Lazio vs Napoli The opening weekend of Serie A throws up a fair amount of games that you might consider to be dead certs for one side or the other but one of the games where that isn't the case is the clash between Lazio and Napoli at 7:30pm this Saturday at the Stadio Olimpico. Lazio come into this game having finished in a respectable 5th place last season in Italy's top flight under Simone Inzaghi. It is an achievement they will hope they can build on having flirted with the possibility of being title contenders earlier in the season. Over the summer, Inzaghi has added a number of new faces such as Riza Durmisi from Real Betis, Valon Berisha from Red Bull Salzburg, Francesco Acerbi from Sassuolo, and Joaquin Correa from Sevilla. Unfortunately, the club had to say goodbye to the influential Felipe Anderson. How big will that loss be for the club? It's been a summer of change for Napoli after Maurizio Sarri departed the club for Chelsea. His replacement is none other than former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti. Some might say that Ancelotti is an upgrade on Sarri with his experience and habit of winning trophies. Ancelotti has moved quick to sign a number of new players. The early loss of commanding central midfielder Jorginho could be a massive blow but the arrival of players including Simone Verdi from Bologna and Fabian Ruiz from Real Betis could soften the damage caused by Jorginho's departure. This is a mammoth opening game for both sides. The home and away team are both patching up their sides after big exits in the summer transfer window. I think Napoli have the more competent manager to deal with such change. He has patched up, healed, and won with many big clubs before so it's just another job for him. I'm not convinced Inzaghi has the experience to manage the evolution of his team as much as Ancelotti. I'm torn between a draw and an away win but think I might punt for the away win.
