StevieDay1983
Manchester United vs Tottenham The first FA Cup Semi-Final will take place on Saturday evening at 5:15pm at Wembley. It's an all-Premier League encounter between 2nd placed Manchester United and 4th placed Tottenham. The big talking point is whether Mauricio Pochettino's side will hold a slight advantage having played on the Wembley surface as a home pitch all season? It's a fixture that has not really produced a vast amount of classic moments over recent years. In fact, both teams have scored in only one of the last eight meetings between the two sides. In terms of who has a better record in the head-to-head over those matches, it's fairly even. 4 wins for United, 3 wins for Spurs, and 1 draw. Jose Mourinho played a mixed squad for their win against Bournemouth in midweek and he claimed it showed him who has the hunger to play in this game. Mourinho loves winning trophies. He has won the FA Cup once previously with Chelsea back in 2007. Is this United side good enough to get the win though? My gut instinct is to back a draw. I think this will be a closely contested game. Tottenham have hit a rocky spell with the 3-1 loss to Manchester City at home and then the 1-1 draw away to Brighton. Has the wind gone from their sails after a superb start to 2018? I just think Mourinho will see his side produce a wily performance that will be enough to see them edge through. I've got a feeling it won't be a classic though. StevieDay1983
Chelsea vs Southampton The second FA Cup Semi-Final takes place tomorrow at 3pm at Wembley and it's between the Premier League sides of Chelsea and Southampton. It had seemed that the Blues were dead set as firm favourites but their league encounter last week has changed all that. A lot of the statistics favour a win for Antonio Conte's side. Chelsea are eyeing a sixth straight win over Southampton in all competitions. The Blues have won 11 of their 14 FA Cup Semi-Final matches. It will also be the 18th time Chelsea have appeared at Wembley since it was rebuilt. That is a record and is certain to mean their fans will feel it is a second home to them right now. Interestingly, Olivier Giroud has scored or got an assist in 21 goals in his 25 appearances in the FA Cup. Southampton appear to have fixed their goal scoring issues but it has come at a cost. The Saints might well have scored 4 goals in their last two league games but they have also conceded 3 goals in each of their last 4 league matches. That is a weakness that Chelsea will certainly be looking to exploit for a second consecutive meeting between the sides. Once again, there could be goals in this game with both teams confident they can breach the opposition defence. Mark Hughes has undoubtedly made improvements to this Southampton side since he arrived but such was the scale of the challenge facing him that it seems unlikely he will be able to keep them up. This is a chance to end their season with some positive news. Unfortunately, I think Chelsea just have too much quality. It should be an absorbing fixture with Southampton a lot more entertaining to watch under Hughes but Conte's team want silverware in light of a disappointing league campaign so I expect them to take a solid win.
