StevieDay1983 Posted March 16, 2018 Author Share Posted March 16, 2018 Eintracht Frankfurt vs Mainz My preview in the Bundesliga this week sees a return to the old faithful that is Eintracht Frankfurt. I enjoyed some early season success with Die Adler. I felt it was about time that I checked in to see how they were doing. Their odds for a home win are not too bad this weekend so it's a great opportunity to sample more victory with Niko Kovac's side. It's been an incredible season for Frankfurt so far. The club sits in an impressive 5th place and they are now just 4 points off second-placed FC Schalke 04. Had it not been for their heartbreaking fourth minute of stoppage time defeat away to Borussia Dortmund last week then it could have been an even smaller gap. Needless to say, their performances have proved that they have what it takes to qualify for the Champions League. Mainz are in a spot of trouble. Sandro Schwarz's men lie in 16th place and currently occupy the relegation play-off place. Due Nullfunfer might be 7 points ahead of 17th placed Hamburg SV and separated by 15th placed Wolfsburg on goal difference but their form needs to improve as soon as possible to avoid a return to Bundesliga II. Kovac's side need some consistency. They have won 3 and lost 3 of their last 6 league matches. A bit of a more settled run of results can really make the difference. It is a game like this that will define their season. Mainz have only won once in their last 7 league matches. It is a slippery slope. The decisive factor here is home and away form. Frankfurt might not have the best record at the Commerzbank-Arena with just 6 wins in 13 games there but Mainz have only won once on the road. It seems the sensible thing to back a solid home win here with the woes of Mainz continuing for another week.
