The iconic PL poker meet up is back for 2018!

The venue will be Resorts World in Birmingham which has a Genting Casino and Poker Room, but plenty of other attractions if you wish to come with non-playing family.

Date is Saturday 9th June, just before all the excitement of the World Cup begins!

The plan is to run a Pot Limit Omaha tournament in the afternoon and No Limit Holdem from early evening.  We are open to suggestions on buy in so please let us know your opinions.  (Last time we had £20 PLO and £35 NLHE.)

The casino will charge a £5 registration fee for each tourney.  Buy in will be in cash on the day at the casino.

To help us with organisation please vote in the poll if you will be coming. :ok

Everyone who plays on the night gets their own Punters Lounge branded mug to take home! :loon

For me the buy in levels should be an amount that we are happy to lose and keep the game in a fun spirit.

I assume the PLO will have a faster structure then the No-limit so a smaller buy in like last time £20+5 or £25+5 either I think is pretty reasonable.

The No limit I think could be anywhere from £35+5 to £50+5. Think this is a reasonable amount for people to play for and enjoy the meet up.

Or stick to the fees from last time I'll still be there to play but if we are just playing £5 rake regardless I think bumping the playing amount up a little might make it better for those that cash.

Anyways hope we get some good numbers together

Been having a few issues recently, but I'd like to say I'll be there for both! I think £50+5 would be reasonable amount! Played in Birmingham around 12 or so years ago! Couldn't be 100% sure but think it was at the Broadway casino though!  Be cool to have another trip down for some poker and to meet some faces! =)

I've booked into the onsite Genting hotel. £90 without breakfast +£15 for parking, extra if you want breakfast, access to gym/pool, refundable option etc.

I was going to ask whether for £15 quid I could stay in the car park but chickened out :\

Looking at the map, the train station & other hotels appear to be walkable, but don't quote me on that, and Brum airport also nearby for the Sir Puntalot private jet :ok

I have confirmed the event with the card room manager who most of us will know.  Rich Wootton is the main man there.

The dealers are the best around.  Rich runs a very good crew and the tournament will be very well run.

Once numbers and buy-ins are confirmed I will speak with Rich and confirm start times etc.

If you need to know anything else give me a shout.  I play here most weeks so should be able to find out the answer from somewhere.

if I see any questions I will try and answer them as best as I can and maybe H update opening post.

Food.

To be honest were paying just £5 registration fee which is really cheap these days especially with the quality of dealers that we will have.  The food in the casino is ok, nothing special, but plenty of other restaurants/eating establishments around.

If we want food putting on then I will need numbers and ideas of what you want and I will get a quote for us.

That's for one night ? :loon

I think I own shares in it now for that, thought I might have to let my solicitors know the title deeds were on their way :\

But I wasn't going to miss out, meeting up and the PL banter are worth every penny.

I'm easy re food, let's make Rich's job as easy as possible for him, maybe all go out for pizza or can do our own thing?

Just spent two hours trawling through hotel web sites. Alan's IBIS is now £71, the next nearest IBIS wants £36 on top for parking. Many horror stories on Trip Advisor for local B&Bs. Remaining options seem to be sleep in the car (maybe 30 years ago), or drive 110 miles home.

Just to clarify, these are private PL tournaments rather than everyone jumping into a regular casino tourney ?

:ok Yes private tourneys. Entry will be restricted to our list.

On the Facebook group I believe Alan put up a referral link, does that get it any cheaper for you?

@Ian309 Travelodge & Premier Inn have cheaper rooms, but some may involve a short taxi ride.

Premier Inn (Birmingham NEC/Airport) might be walkable? and just £32.50 (+£8 parking), link embedded but worth trying Al's link for possible further reduction?

Travelodge (Birmingham Airport) probably short taxi-ride, £42+£8.49 parking booked in advance (but £33 if not prebooked so don't get caught out!), link embedded.

Can't speak for any of these personally, but have always found both brands to be pretty good. Basic and sometimes with noise disturbance but that usually is dependent on the guests staying at the time, which can happen anywhere.

Forgive my naivety, but do they have overnight flights coming in & out? Possible flights noise? No idea!

Trains possibly an option for some people? Did consider myself but too expensive and too many changes for myself to be viable.

Maybe Staffy/other locals can provide some guidance on hotels, which ones are good or to perhaps avoid?

I will be playing both events, with Rob joining me in the evening for the NLHE event, having prepared for an evening of concentration and drinking by going up (and coming back down) Snowdon earlier in the day.  As with Hen, it is the meeting up with friends more than the tournaments that is the biggest draw.
