AC Milan vs Inter Milan

It's a beast of a weekend in Serie A with three huge matches lined up but how can we not preview the classic encounter of the Milan derby? OK, it's true, neither side is at the level of title rivals that they once were for so many years. There is no denying though that these are two great clubs of the European game.

AC Milan are in 7th place in Serie A. It's disappointing considering how much money has been invested in the team over the past couple of seasons. On the plus side, I Rossoneri are only outside the Europa League spots on goal difference and they did qualify for the Coppa Italia Final in midweek. There is also a clear improvement in form under the management of Gennaro Gattuso. The team is now undefeated in 8 league matches. Momentum is with them.

Inter Milan sit in 4th place and have a 1 point buffer inside the Champions League qualification spots. Qualifying for that competition is massive if the club is to make its way back to its glory days. Luciano Spalletti has had his critics this season and their recent results have been poor. After initially looking like title challengers, I Nerazzurri have slipped away with just 2 wins, 6 draws, and 3 defeats from their last 11 league games.

As we always say, the form book goes out the window when it comes to derby matches. Inter won a thrilling encounter 3-2 in the previous league meeting between these two back on 15th October, 2017. I tend to prefer to avoid derbies, as @StevieDay1983 correctly mentions form goes out the window. Still considering the previous encounters between them a home side or draw will be the most probable outcome.
