StevieDay1983
Montpellier vs Guingamp There was only one option when I scanned over the Ligue 1 fixtures this week and that was to back Montpellier at home against Guingamp. The home side are sat in 6th place with 3 wins from their last 4 league games. The travelling team are in 10th place having only notched up a single win in their last 6 matches across all competitions. Montpellier can boast the second best defensive record in Ligue 1 conceding just 20 goals in their 25 league games so far. The only team with a better record is the league leaders PSG who have conceded 17 goals. Not bad when you compare the transfer value of the two defences. However, scoring goals is also a problem with Michel Der Zakarian's side only scoring 23 goals this season. It is an issue that also plagues Guingamp with Antoine Kombouare's men only scoring 25 times this campaign. The home side could move ahead of 5th placed Nantes with a win here but it's still an 11 point gap between themselves and 4th placed Lyon. Guingamp can close the gap with their hosts this weekend. The margin between the two sides is only 4 points and it would switch the away side's attention from looking behind them to looking ahead. I'm thinking Montpellier should have enough to win this but judging by the two sets of attacks it could be a dull affair.
