Puebla vs Tigres

Like previous seasons, its approach is to avoid relegation, for which it has an advantage over Querétaro and Veracruz, but a bad campaign can complicate things.
In addition to the variable of administratively avoiding relegation if an uncertified Liga de Ascenso MX achieved the promotion.

The team remains the same, which works well and has a tendency playing on away, quite conservative, although in this game because Puebla has te need for points, Tigres will have to propose, but also has players to do what.

Prediction
Keeping the base will aid Tigres, but being the first game and Puebla will fight to obtain at least a point, although he knows that his fight is against other teams involved in avoiding relegation. So expect Tigres to dominate the match. The asian handicap contains value as it is the case of a draw only half stake is lost. And I take this as sometimes the champion does not open with a victory in Liga MX, but I see Tigres not losing here.

Have won last five openers against Chivas Guadalajara. Las season finished 5th and was kicked out of playoffs by Monarcas Morelia, with this closing their 100th year anniversary without claiming the title, task that was given to coach Cristante, which was allowed to continue, despite voices against it, the search for the title.

Chivas Guadalajara
After the disaster of last season, that between injuries in the start of last season and despite a great close (winning three of last five) they where not able to reach playoffs. The fact of winning the title the previous season to that one, maintained coach Almeyda in his post. For this some minor changes to the team, if they remain healthy they are a force to be reckon.

In paper their recents arrivals Ronaldo Cisneros, and Walter Sandoval seems strong, but is yet to see how they incorporate to the team style and the return from injury Alan Pulido. Things looks bright but is yet to see.

Prediction
Chivas and Toluca will provide and interesting match, still the good form in home of Toluca and the good trend in this match give them the edge to take control of it, but do not discount Chivas quickly, they will put a fierce stand.

In the opener the team obtain an scoreless draw against Cruz Azul, which was a good results considering what is expected from Cruz Azul this season, now the team goes home where last season had a regular performance, still remarks they only allowed 9 goals in 8 matches, for an average a little above 1 goal.

This match represents an opportunity to claim full points  before they encounter a series of hard matches, two against strong teams as Monterrey and Santos, and two against team fighting to avoid relegation, Puebla and Queretaro that are starting to consider each  point as very important. And a strong February month with their participation in CONCACAF Champions League.

FW Bou is back and that is another plus for Tijuana.

He got a goalless draw at home against Veracruz, which should have been a victory, the lock that Veracruz raised could not open, now faces a team that did not stay behind and saved a propose the match, which allowed them to vary Your position with respect to the first encounter. A great start of the season with two consecutive victories, on Liga MX away match against Atlas and after a home victory against Venados FC in Copa MX, remarks that they where barely able to beat Venados FC when it was expected they would score more goals.

Leon got media hype all week, and finally is confirm that sign “Captain America” Landon Donovan to the team, he has to get match fitness before we see them on the lineup for Leon, but a great coverage has been for the team. Also Giles Barnes is yet to debut with the team 

FW Boselli is on a scoring spree, having score in both matches the team has have, either on home or away. Now they will encounter Toluca and Boselli would like to continue scoring against the, as he has done in the last four matches against them.

The good form of Leon puts them in a good position for this match, but the recent record of matches between them do not help, with  Toluca winning last time at Camp Nou 2-3, and also last one in Nemesio Diez 3-1. That is a streak of four matches that Leon has not been able to beat Toluca. 

 

Toluca

A rather unexpected beginning of the season with a streak of two consecutive draws, the team took the lead against Chivas but did not hold it. And against Mineros Zacatecas came from behind to have the lead but again where not able to hold it to the end of the match and obtain another draw.  The team needs to improve in defense and despite a good performance from Luis Manuel Garcia, the return of Alfredo Talavera is expected soon.

One of their reinforcements was on Leon last season which could help them focus the match with some inside knowledge to get the upper hand. Toluca is expected to focus first on defense and from there build their attacking side, the team posses the offensive power to posses a strong opossition to Leon on this match, as they have scored in both matches they have encounter.

A close encounter, a very interesting match despite not having the media coverage that it deserves. I expect a lot of scoring chances and a two-way ball movement. Leon goes as the favorite, but I do not consider safe to discard Toluca in that way. For something Toluca has maintain is the defense to get a good result, therefore the Asian Handicap posses value for me.

Puebla vs Veracruz

The start of the season was excellent a home victory against champions Tigres UANL, then went to loss 1-0 to Morelia which lower the expectations, but now they are up again as they beat 1-3 Cruz Azul on away during Copa MX, match where both teams send their best players.

Now returns home for a match that some considers of 6 points (3 you win, and 3 the rival did not win) as is against a direct rival in the fight to avoid relegation.  Coach Enrique Meza has made a fair work with the team, still only four victories in the last 8 matches.  Three of them at home, with two of them by 2 or more goals, but that was back in October.  If something can be remark of the team is their defense as they have at the most allowed one goal per match in last 8 matches.

In last five matches at Puebla against Veracruz, the team only won the last one, with four draws before that (four of them scoreless).

Veracruz
Not the expected start of the season, but anything else would be a surprise. The team does not seem to find their footing, as they began well, with an away victory in Copa MX against Atlas, and a scoreless draw against Necaxa on away.

As expected Monterrey was too much for the team as they lost at home 0-2, but then they expected a good result against Tampico Madero, and until minute 77 the scoreless draw was not bad, but then in two bad defended balls, Tampico Madero took the lead for the second consecutive defeat at home for Veracruz.

In the overall picture things does not look good, but in the expected scenario things are on track, and the key is this match, where again the team will be focus on defending first, but also looking to score, they generate important scoring chances against Tampico Madero, but where unable to score.  On the bright side, it is the six match under 2.5 goals, and they just need their offensive to improve as they have just 1 goal scored in last five matches.

After this match, another difficult match against Santos Laguna at home, and then again on away against a direct rival of relegation, Queretaro, therefore this match is key.

Prediction
Common knowledge states that one has to remain away of relegation matches, as they tend to be tricky and the motivation of the teams is different. But I sense there is value in this match, small value but there is.

Both teams have been involve in the fight to avoid relegation several seasons, and in the recent encounter between them, from the last 11 matches, only twice has Puebla claim the victory, with 5 draws as the most frequent result, most of them scoreless.

Veracruz looks like the underdog, but I sense they are level due to their needs and the huge handicap for the away team has a lot of value. As even losing this match only half stake lost.

Winless on this season, and with the disastrous end of last season the team has six matches without victory, last five defeats. Consequently coach Cruz was fired and a replacement takes the team, with the mission to revert this situation.  The first thing will be to work on defense that has ten matches allowing at least a goal, and the perspective does not seem bright as they are facing a team that has score in every match this season.

With the new coach, the emotions renew and hoping to improve, I sense a better Atlas will be on display and it will be an interesting match.

Toluca
The opening of the season has been very bittersweet as they have been on the lead on the first two matches and then have obtained draw, last match was different Leon completely dominated them, but the scoreline 3-1 does not tell the whole story that despite being with one less player the team was able to generate scoring chances and even score one, but they left the defense very weak on that.

A offensive display is expected from Toluca, but they should first look to avoid getting goals, as with the bad form they carry their coach job could be on risk and happen to him what did to Atlas coach.

Prediction
A intense match, both teams are normally offensive as they have the players to do so, but both teams recent form indicate that defense will be the first concern and they will be creating, where I see Toluca stronger, but just by a tick.

I tend to avoid matches where a new coach is appointed, still here I see value on a draw, with a very small stake as it can go either way. I believe it will be a match with few goals, as breaking both teams tendency, so behold.

Copa MX champions, opened the defense of the title with an away victory 1-2 against Dorados using an alternative team, which allow the team to give minutes to substitute players and have them ready in case of new, the team recently recover some injured players, over all Aviles Hurtado, which used to play for Tijuana and has been determined to be fit, and new arrival Jonathan Urretaviscaya, a lot of offensive power.

Last season the team did not lose a single match here, with 8 victories and a draw, with only 4 goals allowed, scoring almost five times that.  Start this season with barely rest after Copa MX final, but where able to hold Morelia and obtain a point.

Afterwards the team obtained two victories to return to that rolling machine coach Mohamed has engineered. And that should unleash here as they are at home.

Tijuana
Finally obtained a victory under coach Cocca, improving in defense by holding at bay Necaxa and the week before Cruz Azul in a scoreless away draw. Things start to look positive for the team after the changes during the off season, and now they will encounter a hard test against one of the powerhouses of Liga MX.  

On away the team lost five matches last season, and one of the main reasons why they did not achieve qualifications to playoffs. Still this season is the team is unbeaten and have not allowed a single goal, so they will not make it easy for Monterrey.

Their good defense will be the main point here, still is yet to see how the will respond if they are under in the scoreline, which might be witness here.

Prediction

Two offensive teams that enjoy creating scoring chances, then expect an open match with plenty of scoring chances, still that would not secure a high scoring match as at Monterrey this encounter in last four has fluctuated between over and under. Monterrey is the powerhouse here and should show its domination and give their fans a home victory after just drawing 1-1 against Morelia in the opener. Tijuana still has work to do, and this will be a good test but that will go down on Monterrey side.

This season has been the antithesis from last season, winless in Liga MX in three rounds the team is facing possible relegation issues, as his quotient is very volatile, and the lack of points this season is starting to be worrisome, two more defeats, and two victories from Veracruz would send them to the bottom of the quotient table (the one that determinate relegation).

In the bottom of Liga MX table, the team is facing the pressure to deliver better results, still its schedule does not help to it, as after Pumas they will encounter America. If things where not bad enough, his starting goalkeeper Lucero Alvarez will not be with the team due to injury and GK Jorge Villalpando will take his position.

In last two matches the team has just been able to score once, on away to Pachuca, and their defense is just a mess allowing at least two goals in every match. Still coach Rafael Puente is young  and the team is confident he might be able to turn this around.

Pumas UNAM
As with Lobos BUAP, for Pumas this is start of seen is the antithesis, second place overall in Liga MX table, the team  is unbeaten, has only allowed three goals, not allowing America attack a single goal last match.  

The team has shown a lot of reliance on Nicolas Castillo and despite last match being a scoreless home draw the team was able to generate important scoring chances. The good momentum of the team is just remarkable.

Right now the team is not concern with relegation, but for next season they will be as their good performance from five season ago will not be taken into consideration, therefore a good season here is vital to avoid a very stressful next seasons.

Prediction
A needed Lobos BUAP will be eager not to allow a single goal, which leaves the control of the match to Pumas that has shown a very good chemistry between Nicolas Castillo and Matias Alustiza, therefore expect the better scoring changes from Pumas. Pumas should continue with their good form and deliver a good performance, I sense the value on the Asian Handicap as Lobos BUAP will focus on destroying and getting at least a point.

After missing playoffs last season, owner Vergara provide stability to the team and made few but significant changes to the team, which where reflected in last match, as Ronaldo Cisneros and Edwin Hernandez scored (Edwin Hernandez goal was an splendid free kick in the last minute of the match).

An irregular start of the tournament as they have obtained a draw, defeat and then victory, with very vibrant and intense match, where the downsize has been the defense that has allowed a goal in every single match. If the attack is up to task and scores, the team can get a good result, but when they have a day-off, then bad results are expected as their defense needs to improve.  In last 15 matches, only twice has the team now allowed a goal from the rival.

The odds reflect that Chivas is not the favorite in this match, but to the media it is more of a level match as they sense Chivas has awaken, but I sense this match is the perfect test for the team and Monterrey will be a formidable rival.

Monterrey
In last 15 matches only one defeat, the second leg final versus Tigres UANL, beside that, 4 draws, and 10 victories. Coach Mohamed has designed a team that is strong on the defense and very good on attack.

This season the team is unbeaten, still last match home the team was unable to defeat Tijuana, but collect an bittersweet scoreless draw as one of its more important strikers Aviles Hurtado waste a penalty kick that would have deliver them the victory.  For Copa MX, Carlos Sanchez did score the penalty during the match against Correcaminos UAT.

Only one goal allowed, this season on the opener against Morelia, in a match where the team arrive with only two weeks rest. Now a month afterwards the team seems compact and just need to get the scoring going again, they have mixed their players in both Copa MX and Liga MX, and with two victories in Copa MX, the team can now focus everything in Liga MX.

Prediction

 

Expect a very interesting match, both teams like offensive playmaking and therefore many scoring chances from both teams. Despite this match scoring over, I prefer to take the Asian Handicap for the away team, as I sense they have the most value to take a favorable result here, and covered in case there is a draw. And their defense is better than that of Chivas Guadalajara.

A very tight match, Veracruz is expected another shuffle in their lineup, still the main task is no to allow a goal, meanwhile Santos have found their playing style and also starts with good defending. Still some scoring chances are expected.

Prediction
Santos Laguna seems is a very good position to encounter this match, Veracruz needs a very strong change if they are to obtain something here. I sense the value lays on this Asian Handicap, as Santos should impose conditions, just cover in case of a surprise draw.

During the midweek the team lost its unbeaten at home against Veracruz, only where able to shorten the gap, but where unable to draw the match, a wake up for the team that is the antithesis of last season where they end in the last position of the league. It all relays on Tijuana defense, if they can turn around their current form, and contain Castillo and Alustiza, the counterattacks will be their best option. If they are not able, then we could see the same of the away team dominating and making Tijuana go through a hard time. With a very bad start of the season with three defeats the team has gone to win four of the last six matches, with two defeats in that time against Tigres UANL and Morelia, teams on the top part of the league, and victories against weaker teams like Lobos BUAP, Veracruz and Celaya. If there is something Pachuca posses is a very offensive team, with the likes of Keisuke Honda, Angelo Sagal and youth sensation Erick Gutierrez, which seems to take the position left by “Chucky” Lozano (current goal leader in Netherlands) and has scored in last three matches at least a goal.
