UD Almería - Córdoba CF, Segunda, 16.12.17

Almeria has recently escaped from the  relegation zone. With the arrival  of Lucas Alcaraz as the head coach of the team, the team slowly came back to life. He was appointed 4 rounds ago.

During this time Rojiblancos gained two home victories over Zaragoza (3-0) and Tenerife (2-1), played 1-1 with Barcelona B, and in the last round lost 3-2 to Granada playing away, although they could take a draw!

In the last match I paid attention to two aspects of the game. Firstly, it’s a healthy sport arrogance!  The team didn’t try to park the bus, but instead went up-front and almost managed to take away points in a match with one of the leaders.  Secondly, huge holes in the defense, which not allowed them to achieve a desired result.

Indeed, Lucas Alcaraz transformed their game. If earlier the team was cowardly parking the bus  in its half of the field, now it plays aggressively, it is very dangerous at set-pieces.. Now Almería is at 18th position with 19 points, ahead of Leonesa in the relegation zone only on goal difference.

Cordoba, located on the last 22nd place and is 6 points behind the 18th place.

Cordoba have failed to win any of their last 10 matches and they’re in search of that elusive victory.

The fans are sadly joking  that they should go and buy some tickets for Segunda B matches to meet competitors in the following season. The experts consider the work of the coach Juan Merino to be the wine of such disastrous results.

Last week to patience of a management of club the end has come, and the former coach of Cordoba has been appointed to the seat of the couch 32-years Jorge Romero.

A little explanation. Jorge Romero is a committed attacker. His Cordoba B in his group scored the most goals, although conceded a lot.

Sergi Guardiola said yesterday that Jorge Romero differs from the former coach in the game's philosophy by trying to play the ball control and gives a lot of freedom to the players on the field.

How can you question someone  with that surname! However, I will add a little to what freedom means: the team will create chances up-front, but this increases the risk of error in their own half.

Let’s go back to Cordoba. In the last match against Rayo Vallecano, the team went to look for happiness in attack and led 2-0 by the half-time! However, Cordoba didn’t dare to finish off the reassembled rival. According to Captain – Carlos Caballero – they were afraid to win. Rayo slowly found their game back and managed to draw out of nowhere, spoiling the debut of the new coach.

What does this mean? Córdoba missed the victory, but the ray of light undoubtedly flashed over the stadium Nuevo Arcángel. It's no accident that "rayo" is translated as "ray"! But when the team pulled back from pressure on the opponent's goal, the beam went out. I think the players will learn a lesson from what happened.

Сordoba – Javi Noblejas (DL) will not play, but he hasn’t played a few matches so far. During the last training, some players were absent, including Joao Afonso DC (17/0), Jaime Romero AMR (17/0 and Josema DC (12/0). Serious losses concern the line of defense, so the coach prepares the youth for the game.

The coaching staff of Almeria called the misses of the team as  “plague”.

Pablo Caballero CF 14/1, Tino Costa CM 8/2, Hicham AML 11/0, Fran Rodríguez DR 15/2, Javi Álamo AMR 4/0, Fidel AML 16/1, Rubén Alcaraz CM 19/3, Nauzet Alemán AMR 8/0.

Juan Muñoz ST 13/1 and Verza DMC 9/2 were in doubt, and immediately 9 branch players practiced along with the base.

Losses in all lines, but for the sake of fairness, it should be noted that in recent matches, the losses did not prevent the coach from setting up a battle-worthy squad.

Players, coach, and press say that for Córdoba to play for a draw there is no point, because one point does not save, only victory is needed. Fighting draw in the last round inspired the players, and they had distinct notes of sporting anger. Captain Carlos Caballero said he understands the claims of the fans, but now all the players are ready to die on the field to hear the applause again. The last victory gives an additional incentive to the guests, and coach Almería Lucas Alcaraz warns that Córdoba will play with great motivation.

Almería also has no problems with motivation. Everyone is annoyed by the past defeat, which is considered unfair. In this case, the players, the coach and the press are sure that the remaining two matches with direct competitors before the New Year break must be won. The density of the results is so great that in the case of two defeats, Almería can be in last place!

Thus, both teams promise to fight for victory, and I believe them.

And now I shall pretend to be the psychic and I shall try to read through the ideas of couches!

The philosophy of the game Jorge Romero - is an attack, control of the ball and freedom of creativity on the field. And it brought him success, as in Cordoba B, and in the first half of the debut match with Rayo. "To win, you have to score more than miss" - such a plan for the game is Romero. So he himself let slip, saying that the team was close to victory after the first half, and will go to Almeria with this feeling!

isvis-à-vis Lucas Alcaraz is more experienced, and it is more difficult to read his thoughts. Let's put ourselves in his place. The team is not complete, but all require a successful performance.

Let's put ourselves in his place. The team is not complete, but all require a successful performance..He already knows how to play and win in such conditions.

Aggressive vertical play and standards. Defensive model will not help, because defense of Almería is far from ideal.

Y

es, Córdoba will try to press and control the ball, but this is not Barca, we wont see the possession 75% . The model of Cordoba game assumes they are likely to have errors in defense on a  regular basis and Almeria will probably take advantage of it.

I don’t think they can close the game down, so they would probably need to score more than 1 goal. It is unlikely that Almeria will attack from the first minutes, but will wait for its chance, which opponent will provide.

Judging by the game picture, we will see a lot of approaches to the penalty area. At the same time, the match promises to be hot, I don’t exclude a large number of fouls and collisions.  Almeria is very strong at set-pieces, but Cordoba is not too bad either.  All 4 goals, which scored those teams in the last round were scored from set-pieces. I think its logical to assume, we have the right to expect something similar in this match.

Some stats for this match:

*Both teams have scored in the last 4 matches of Cordoba.*

*Both teams have scored in the last 3 matches of Almeria.*

*Cordoba conceded at least one goal in each of their last 10 matches*

*Cordoba have lost 78% of their away matches. *

*Almeria conceded goals in the last 6 matches against Cordoba*

I don’t think Cordoba will win in this match. Almeria has  a more integral picture of the game and more experienced players on their side.

Bookmakers agreed with this, giving preference to the home team. But I will not risk taking the outcome, because motivation of Córdoba can create a miracle.

The pre-match situation indicates that we will see goals from both sides. If you are looking for big odds – you can risk on both teams to score and over 2.5 goals.

Recommendation: Both teams to score @ 1.91

Las Palmas - Espanyol

Those are the teams that  can be considered as losers of a present season. Las Palmas located at the last spot and cannot find the game, that will allow it to go up in the table. Despite this, the islanders have not bad squad. So far, even the change of head coach hasn’t helped, now Paquito Ortis is in charge. But its only temporary, because from January Paco Jemez will take his place. Perhaps this will lead to better results, but so far the team doesn’t have a permanent coach, which is an extremely negative factor. There is no picture in their game and there is nobody, who can fix this mechanism.

Las Palmas in this season is considered as an overish team. This is not entirely true if you look at the result. We see more goals due to the fact that rivals of the  Las Palmas score. Las Palmas only scored 11 goals itself.

Partly, this situation can be attributed to permanent injuries, but for the upcoming match will be absent Vitolo AML 11/0 and Alen Halilovic AMC 3/0.  I think Vitolo is the most valuable attacking player (which confirms his transfer fee on the market) Las Palmas, so his absence will undoubtedly affect the attacking options of the team. Alen Halilovic loaned from Hamburg has played only a few matches for the team, so he is unlikely to be super important.

In the other team “ Espanyol” things aren’t going very well too. Since the beginning  of the season  team showing the fairly moderate level of football and occupies just 16-th spot in the table.

At the beginning of the season, the unsuccessful game could be explained by injuries, but now all the main performers are available, but they still show very moderate football. The team plays slowly and predictably, it is not difficult for opponents to neutralize the attacking line of Espanyol.

However, it should be noted that the defense of Espanyol  works fairly organized and doesn’t allow rivals many opportunities at their goal. I think they can be called true underish team.

The coach of the guests Quique Sánchez Flores honestly said at the pre-match press conference that the team has certain problems. We noticed this! He believes that it's time to turn the tide, with which it is difficult not to agree. However, it is worth his words to give a lot of importance, because before a completely disgusting match with Girona he said almost the same? I believe that Espanyol is in a deep crisis. This can witnessed not only by the results, but also at the level of the football:

The team does not have a clear plan how to win. And I very much doubt that by tomorrow, the situation will radically change

The only important player that we wont see on Espanyol side is  Javi Fuego DM (14/0).He can be considered as a regular player. However, I see plenty options to replace him in Espanyol squad.

These players are not called by trainer in line-up of Espanyol up to this game- rc Navarro DR 5/0, Dídac Vilà DL 4/0, Sergio Sánchez DC 3/0, Papakouli Diop DM7 / 0, Hernán Pérez AMR 5/0, Álvaro Vázquez ST 2/0.  All these players are not fundamental, so it wont affect the game .

So, what do we have for this match?

I am sure tomorrow there will be a meeting of two crisis teams, which at the moment are simply not able to effectively attack, score and win. In this case, the tournament position requires a result, so the price of the error is high, which does not contribute to the activity in the attack.

It's hard to say who wins. In both teams there are high-class players who can single-handedly make the result. But even if they did, it would be an isolated case. In general  for the game, I do not expect many goals.

Some stats for the match:

*73% of Espanyol's matches had under 2.5 goals in total.*

*There have been under 2.5 goals scored in 8 of Espanyol's last 9 games (La Liga).*

*Las Palmas have kept a clean sheet in their last 4 home matches against Espanyol in all competitions.*

* The last 4 home matches of Las Palmas against Espanyol ended with the outcome of under 2.5 goals in 3 of 4 cases*

Recommendation: Under 2.5 Goals @ 1.90

Good luck to all, friends!
