345 Ascot

Blue Point NAP 7/4 Skybet
Smart colt owned by Godolphin and trained by Charlie Appleby. He won the Gimcrack at York last year as a 2yo and then was second in the Middle Park behind The Last Lion. On his last run of the season he was a decent 3rd behind Churchill over 7f in the Dewhurst and now steps back in trip. He looks a sprinter to follow this season and if all goes well will aim for the Commonwealth Cup at Ascot in June.

Ascot 4.55 : Blue Revelation @ 20/1 Ladbrokes e/w thanks

Blue Revelation....from Paul Webber yard if its blue that will do for me , the 4yo only had the 3 runs to date he ran once for J P Murtagh yard in Ireland at Naas 7f good to firm in Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Maiden when finishing 4th in August 2015 was Gelded in March 2016 and without having another race for this yard ,

He moved yards to Paul Webber on 24th November 2016 and six days later the yard gave him his first run in UK at Lingfield AW 1m and he went on to win by 0.5 length in class 5 , He was put away for winter and reappeared 89 days ago but was into class 4 at Kempton AW 1m and finished 8th of 9 runners beaten 11.5 lengths and off 81 mark ,

The handicapper drops him back to 78 mark and yard having the tongue strap on for first time also on turf in UK for first time with young apprentice George Wood claiming 3lbs in saddle

3.45 Ascot: Pavilion Stakes - Group 3, 6 furlongs

I was quite keen on Frankel son Seven Heavens in the European Free Handicap two weeks ago when he returned from his winter break. Unfortunately the three year old pulled his chances away in the early stages of the race. He was far too keen to last home the full seven furlongs distance at the Rowley Mile.

This a recurring theme with this exuberant colt who shares quite some similarities - not only in terms of looks - with his prominent daddy.

Hope is not lost, though. Fast ground over six furlong on a galloping track like Ascot may suit allot better, so the drop in trip must not be a negative. Much the appositive. His pace and exuberance might be an advantage here.

So can be race fitness over the majority of the field where no less nine of twelve horses are returning from a seasonal break.

I believe this is an ideal chance for Seven Heavens to show us that he can be a pattern horse. The jury is still out, it's not clear how good he is, given his two wins from last season are nothing to shout about form wise at least.

However he has the pedigree, the looks  and appeared to be having talent. There won't be any excuse for a below par showing this time, that's for sure.

Selection:
Seven Heavens @ 8/1 Bet365

4.55 Ascot

BALMORAL CASTLE @ 20/1 Skybet

This could easily go to one of the unexposed Haggas or Charlton horses but neither give much value at the prices. I'm going with last years winner running off only 2lb higher this year. Ran in some decent handicaps after winning this last year and this is the first time he's dropped back to class 4 since. The stiff mile here probably suits as most of his best form is over further. It was good/soft here last year but all his best form prior to that had come on this type of ground. Currently 20/1 looks a shade overpriced to me.
