It's bizarre that they have a full round of fixtures during the international period. I suppose not many Argentine clubs are affected by international call-ups though are they?

It is unusual and the reason is the match backlog created by the acrimony between the clubs and the Argentina FA over revenues, prior to the re-start of the second phase of the league. For this round of matches, the AFA left the clubs to decide if they would like the matches to proceed during the International break and they opted to play - though the final decision was made mid-week.

Rosario Central vs Tigre

Hosts' expectations of fighting for the title were scuttled with their poor performance in the first phase of the championship, meaning they will only seek to rebuild in this phase and expect to be more competitive next season. Coach Chacho Coudet paid the price for that poor performance and was replaced by Uruguayan Paulo Montero. They come from a morale-boosting 1-0 away win against Quilmes, a result that has further raised expectations for winning today's match because the team also has to atone for the previous 1-0 home loss to Godoy Cruz. The new coach is still discovering his best eleven; but the fans expect three points from this match.

The visitors are in an unstable situation after Coach Pedro Troglio resigned, following two consecutive defeats in the first two matches of this phase. Pepe Castro will stand in for this match but has not had much time to change things. Home win

Bet won: Rosario Central 1-0 Tigre

Olimpo vs San Martin

After ending the first phase of the championship in relegation territory, in mid-December 2016, Olimpo brought in Coach Mario Sciacqua (to replace Christian Diaz). He has been working with the squad since January and has improved the belief and conviction amongst the players, who now play and try to win. The team plays with defensive order, intensity in midfield and verticality in attack. Results have been encouraging since the re-start of the championship: one home win, one away draw and one away loss. The supporters have already noticed and embraced the team's change of mentality. The last game away to Talleres was a chance to leave the bottom four of the table (even with a draw); but the team lost 1-0 after displaying a lack of urgency and opting to defend deep. Defender Ezequiel Parnisari was also red-carded mid-way in the second half. A key piece of the team's defensive structure, Uruguayan central defender Carlos Rodriguez, returns from an abdominal injury. Another important return (from a dental problem) is central midfielder Lucas Vilarruel.

The visitors, San Martin, are in poor form (one draw and three losses) and are firmly in the relegation zone. They come from a 2-1 home loss against table-leaders Boca juniors. But after opting to defend deep and going 2-0 down, San Martin showed a reaction towards the end of the match and pulled a goal back in the 88th minute. The team offered little offensively but whenever they moved forward, they always managed to generate danger and worry the Boca defence. They felt aggrieved that the match referee decided the result by making some key decisions in favour of Boca (San Martin got five yellow cards and Boca only two despite the latter making more fouls). They are now seeking to get something from this match against fellow relegation strugglers Olimpo. Since the catastrophic 6-1 away loss to Newells in the last round of the first phase (mid-December 2016), the team has displayed a more defensive, closed formation; with particular preference for 3-4-3 away from home.

Hosts are in a must-win situation against direct rivals San Martin, if they have to leave the relegation zone in this round. However, the visitors also desperately need a result. Both are likely to venture more into attack. BTTS

Rosario Central vs Atletico Tucuman

Hosts come from a disappointing 2-2 draw away to Sarmiento, losing their defensive balance and conceding two goals. For this clash, their offensive momentum will be affected by the missing Marco Ruben, captain and team's main attacking reference, . The focus will be on regaining defensive balance and greater composure upfront.

The visitors appear to have their focus on next week's Copa Libertadores clash, away to Jorge Wilstermann (Bolivia), and they need a result to get off the bottom of the group table. Expect conservative play to reserve energy for the important trip to Bolivia. Under 2.5 goals

Lanus vs San Martin

Hosts have scored five goals and conceded the same number in the last two championship matches; the latest being a 3-1 away loss to Talleres. Coach Jorge Almiron would like his team to regain the effectiveness displayed in the first phase of the championship but he is distracted by the team's involvement in the Copa Libertadores group stage. This game poses the same dilemma; he would like his team to play well and win against San Martin but he also has to keep an eye on Tuesday's Copa tie, at home to Zulia from Venezuela. He has two key players returning from injury but cannot risk them ahead of that Copa tie, also mindful that his team lost the previous Copa home game.

The visitors have not won since the start of the second phase of the championship, under new Coach Nestor "Pipo" Gorosito; two losses and three draws, and the team did not score in four of these five matches! The latest was 0-0 draw at home to Union. Unsurprisingly, Coach Gorosito prepared for this particular game seeking an improvement in the attacking midfield play, to generate chances for the forwards to convert. He has made two modifications in this sector, bringing in Maxi Lugo and Ezequiel Montagna to provide more support to the two strikers.

The hosts have divided attention and cannot muster all their resources and commitment to this game; while the visitors are desperately seeking a win and come with an offensive stance. Draw or Away win.

Huracan vs Arsenal Sarandi

Hosts come from a fortuitous 1-1 draw away to bottom team Rafaela; in which the home team dictated play while Huracan were disjointed and did not have any clear scoring opportunity until the "miraculous" leveller, scored just seconds to the end of the three added minutes! Thus Huracan extended their unbeaten run in this second phase; two wins and three draws. They have displayed defensive solidity but still lack a consistent scorer, with the few goals scored spread across the team. Without an effective finisher, Coach Juan Azconzabal looks for variants and mobility in attack. For this clash, the team welcomes back three players: Defender Federico Mancinelli plus midfielders Marcos Diaz and Matias Fritzler. Hosts seek three points to move farther away from the threat of relegation.

The visitors are firmly in the relegation zone (last on the table with eight points), courtesy of five defeats since the start of this second phase of the championship, under new Coach Humberto Grondona. They come from a 0-1 loss at home to Newells; Arsenal taking the initiative but lacked definition in the final third, while the visitors waited patiently for their chance and thereafter defended their lead.

This is a relegation six-pointer. While Arsenal plays a closed game against the superior teams, it takes an offensive and intense posture against direct rivals. BTTS
