gogetta
Colon vs Newells Hosts come from a narrow 1-0 loss away to league leaders Estudiantes, frustrated in failing to gain at least a point after Pablo Ledesma missed a penalty near the end. Now they host in-form Newells. Colon's defence is weakened by absence of central defender Ortiz. Colon coach Paolo Montero is reverting to a 4-4-2 scheme to play a bit more expansively and create space against a team that defends well. Coach Montero's offensive game plan is highlighted by his choice of youngster Leguizamon to partner Blanco in attack, at the expense of Sandoval; with the young man preferred because he is an out-and-out striker who who moves in more advanced attacking positions. Newells are currently in form; with three wins, one draw and one loss in the last five games - and scoring in each of them. For this game, they come from a morale-boosting 1-0 home win against River Plate; in which they had less possession and passing but were more efficient and dangerous with the ball. While they can defend well, their real strength lies in attack; particularly from the trio of Maxi Rodriguez, Ignacio Scocco and Mauro Formica. Coach Diego Osella preaches tactical rigor but also seeks intensity and passion from his players. Hosts have a defensive weakness today and have opted for a more offensive game plan; against an in-form opponent whose strength is efficiency in attack. gogetta
Sarmiento vs Tigre Hosts are on a high. Since the appointment of Jorge Burruchaga as Coach (replacing Gabriel Schurrer), Sarmiento have not lost in three games - two away wins and one home draw. They come from a very good away win 3-1 against Quilmes, despite being a man down. The coaching change and mental recovery appear to be the keys behind this revival. Coach Burruchaga has ensured continuity by giving confidence to the same eleven in these three games. The team found balance and effectiveness, especially in the offensive sector (scoring 7 goals and conceding 4 in the three games). Thus, they have added seven points and are very close to leaving the relegation zone - this is the main objective of the team in this game against Tigre and the next one away to Aldosivi, before the Christmas recess. And recent results have galvanized the local Junin population to support the team for this home tie. The visitors, Tigre, have had a difficult early season as the team has been ravaged by continuous injuries to key players: Goalkeeper Javier Garcia broke his cruciate ligaments and has been sidelined since; the same injury was then suffered by key striker Lucas Janson (former Boca and the crown jewel of the team) as well as to Fernando Redondo Jr (son of the reknowned midfielder); while other key players like attacking midfielder Diego Morales, defender Fernando Godoy, Gaspar Iniguez and midfielder Lucas Menossi suffered muscle tears, sprains and other injuries. Thus, Coach Pedro Troglio has not chance to play a settled eleven in the previous eleven match days. Some of these players (Godoy and Iniguez) have recovered. But the youth players, earlier drafted in to cover for the absences, are now doing well and holding down positions in the team (especially defensive midfielder Alexis Castro, attacking midfielder Diego Sosa and striker Carlos Lunar). But Tigre has displayed inconsistency - alternating good performances (at home) with poor ones (away). The only player who has appeared in all the previous games, Martin Galmarini (defender and captain), is suspended for this tie after accumulating five yellow cards. This may weaken the visitors' defence. Home team now has momentum, with a settled and increasingly confident eleven. The visitors have lacked team stability, are poor away from home and come with a suspect defence for this tie. Home win. black_baar and pulsar12

gogetta
Huracan vs Talleres Hosts are currently struggling, having won only one match so far in the league. They descended into the relegation zone after losing the last three rounds. Meanwhile the club is still searching for a new coach, after the resignation of Ricardo Caruso Lombardi in the first week of this month. Interim Coach Nestor Apuzzo lost his first game, 1-0 away to Banfield and insists that his team has improved; but lamented that they are on a losing streak in every way ie results, injuries, bad luck. They battle defensively but are limited offensively - team has failed to find it's offensive game since the loss of attacking talisman Ramon Abila (who left for Cruzeiro in Brazil). The game against Talleres offers the last chance this year to claim a home win since April (last win was away in early October). But the team has three new absences after the last round: Goalkeeper Marcos Diaz (muscle tear), Midfielder Mathias Fritzler (suspended), midfielder Julio Angulo (back problem) and forward David Depetris (muscle strain) - in addition to unavailability of midfielder Ignacio Pussetto (groin injury) and forward Jeronimo Barrales (who had knee operation last week). The visitors are on an eight-game unbeaten run, of five consecutive wins but followed by three consecutive draws in the last three rounds. The team has been difficult to beat, particularly exhibiting stability in the defence and midfield sectors; but has been doing well and scoring away from home. Coach Franco Kudelka will have to make one change for this match ie replace the injured central defender Javier Gandolfi; but will deploy a probing 4-2-1-2 formation. Home team is desperate for a win but is severely handicapped by absences. With a team previously struggling to score but now further depleted in the offensive sector, home coach Nestor Apuzzo has opted for a conservative formation 4-5-1; clearly intent on avoiding defeat and defending. The visitors will be equally difficult to beat and stable defensively. Draw and Under 2.5 goals.

gogetta
Racing Club vs Lanus The long and acrimonious delay to the re-start of the Primera Division also provided opportunity for another "pre-season" for the hosts, enabling the recovery from injury of some important players. Among the candidates for the title at the start of the championship, Racing finds itself ten points behind leaders Boca Juniors; and thus requires consistent wins in order to revive its challenge for the title. Against Lanus, Coach Diego Cocca has promised a collective performance and especially wary of the visitors counter-attacks via the flanks. But Lanus comes into this game hobbled by its poor start to the Copa Libertadores group stage, drawing 1-1 at home to Uruguay Club Nacional and seeking to recover the points next Thursday away to Brazil Chapecoense. Therefore, five starters have been spared from this game. Home win Bet Won: Racing 3-0 Lanus Edited March 13, 2017 by gogetta

gogetta
Newells Old Boys vs Velez Sarsfield Newells host their first official match at home in 2017, since the 6-1 demolition of San Martin three months ago. Last weekend, they lost 1-0 away to Defensa, where they displayed unusually poor production. For this match against Velez, Coach Diego Osella seeks a reaction and has promised a return to the team's virtues ie solidity as a team, being aggressive in marking, playing with intensity, seizing the initiative and taking the ball to the opposition. Osella has opted for two changes: Jose San Roman at right-back to reinforce the right sector and the youthful Jalil Elias to inject aggressiveness in central midfield. The offensive trio of Formica, Maxi Rodriguez and Nacho Scocco will seek to hurt the opposition. In the first phase of the championship, Newells were ambitious at home: five wins, one draw and one loss. Velez come from a morale-boosting 3-2 home win against Estudiantes. Their main highlights being the experienced defender Fabian Cubero (who will be playing his 600th match for Velez), the speedy attacking midfielder Diego Zabala and the goal-poacher Mariano Pavone. In the first phase,Velez struggled to score away from home and this became the focus of it's mid-season friendlies in February, displaying better production. However, there is some doubt over the availability of Pavone for this game; he trained alone this week due to a muscle problem. Coach Omar De Felippe has promised an attacking strategy. The visitors will employ an attacking strategy away from home, while the hosts seek recovery by combining their effective offense with a solid performance at home. Home win. StevieDay1983
It's bizarre that they have a full round of fixtures during the international period. I suppose not many Argentine clubs are affected by international call-ups though are they?

I suppose not many Argentine clubs are affected by international call-ups though are they? It is unusual and the reason is the match backlog created by the acrimony between the clubs and the Argentina FA over revenues, prior to the re-start of the second phase of the league. For this round of matches, the AFA left the clubs to decide if they would like the matches to proceed during the International break and they opted to play - though the final decision was made mid-week. gogetta
Rosario Central vs Tigre Hosts' expectations of fighting for the title were scuttled with their poor performance in the first phase of the championship, meaning they will only seek to rebuild in this phase and expect to be more competitive next season. Coach Chacho Coudet paid the price for that poor performance and was replaced by Uruguayan Paulo Montero. They come from a morale-boosting 1-0 away win against Quilmes, a result that has further raised expectations for winning today's match because the team also has to atone for the previous 1-0 home loss to Godoy Cruz. The new coach is still discovering his best eleven; but the fans expect three points from this match. The visitors are in an unstable situation after Coach Pedro Troglio resigned, following two consecutive defeats in the first two matches of this phase. Pepe Castro will stand in for this match but has not had much time to change things. gogetta
Olimpo vs San Martin After ending the first phase of the championship in relegation territory, in mid-December 2016, Olimpo brought in Coach Mario Sciacqua (to replace Christian Diaz). He has been working with the squad since January and has improved the belief and conviction amongst the players, who now play and try to win. The team plays with defensive order, intensity in midfield and verticality in attack. Results have been encouraging since the re-start of the championship: one home win, one away draw and one away loss. The supporters have already noticed and embraced the team's change of mentality. The last game away to Talleres was a chance to leave the bottom four of the table (even with a draw); but the team lost 1-0 after displaying a lack of urgency and opting to defend deep. Defender Ezequiel Parnisari was also red-carded mid-way in the second half. A key piece of the team's defensive structure, Uruguayan central defender Carlos Rodriguez, returns from an abdominal injury. Another important return (from a dental problem) is central midfielder Lucas Vilarruel. The visitors, San Martin, are in poor form (one draw and three losses) and are firmly in the relegation zone. They come from a 2-1 home loss against table-leaders Boca juniors. But after opting to defend deep and going 2-0 down, San Martin showed a reaction towards the end of the match and pulled a goal back in the 88th minute. The team offered little offensively but whenever they moved forward, they always managed to generate danger and worry the Boca defence. They felt aggrieved that the match referee decided the result by making some key decisions in favour of Boca (San Martin got five yellow cards and Boca only two despite the latter making more fouls). They are now seeking to get something from this match against fellow relegation strugglers Olimpo. Since the catastrophic 6-1 away loss to Newells in the last round of the first phase (mid-December 2016), the team has displayed a more defensive, closed formation; with particular preference for 3-4-3 away from home. Hosts are in a must-win situation against direct rivals San Martin, if they have to leave the relegation zone in this round. However, the visitors also desperately need a result. Both are likely to venture more into attack. BTTS Bet Lost: :Olimpo 0-0 San Martin Edited April 4, 2017 by gogetta
