For this match they will be eager to obtain a good result, this match is their home opener this year after the defeat in playoffs precisely against Monterrey, therefore Morelia will look to return to the winning path, and this match just seem it. Last three Copa MX seasons they have defeat Ascenso MX sides on Morelia home matches. And for this season the team was maintained, building on last season good performance and providing a vote of confidence to coach Hernandez. Cimarrones Sonora Failed to qualify to playoffs of Ascenso MX last season and in Copa MX the team only claimed a point in a home draw against Queretaro. For this season the team went deep changes as almost 10 players arrive to the team as some others left, and the start could not have been better, winning 1-3 against Murcielagos. Which is not the strongest side on Ascenso MX, quite the opposite, but great sensations for the team. Good sensations from that victory will propel the team, but is yet to see how they will perform against a stronger side, which this match might provide a glimpse of this, as Morelia is one of the strongest in Mexico. Then it was eliminated by Monterrey losing both legs of the quarterfinal. With few changes for this season, the team expects to build from last season performance to achieve higher goals. Open the tournament in the worst possible way, with a home defeat 1-2 to Leon, still Leon has showed to be a formidable opposition, but Atlas was able to score as they have a goal power and always play offensively, and expect the team to maintain control of the ball and playmaking. Captain Rafael Marquez was moved to the central defense for the second half of the match against Leon and appears will remain there for future matches. Veracruz The team is on a streak of 8 matches without victory, remarks that on the opener was able to hold Necaxa to a scoreless draw, but that is the third match without scoring a goal. The team went important changes during the offseason and that despite being held during Draft because of debts and was able to participate when it was almost over. Still the defense leaves a lot to desire and the area that needs more improvement. Now the team returns home to open their participation on Copa MX, competition they did not participate last year and that does not yield positive memories, as they currently have 11 matches without victory. Still they have obtained 5 draws in that streak, mostly at home. The team has important elements, that had played before in first division as Felix Araujo, Christian Perez, Diego de la Torre, Edy Brambilla, which might help the team to change their history in Copa MX, still I expect that to be on their matches against Venados FC. So the Copa MX is a refreshing space for the team, as they obtain a great result by winning 0-1 to Atlas on away, and a good result here will see them almost securing qualification to next stage. Their focus will remain on having a good defense and althought they haven’t achieve the desired results in Liga MX, in last three matches they have only allowed 3 goals. Tampico Madero The team open Ascenso MX with two draws, 0-0 against Zacatepec and 1-1 against Celaya, both good results considering both teams dispute playoffs together with team last season. The team lost 3-0 in Copa MX to Morelia, returning to Ascenso MX they where expected to bounce back, but lost at home against Cafetaleros and then to Atletico Zacatepec, only being able to score against Cafetaleros. Trying to find something positive is that in the last match they only allowed a single goal after allowing 3 goals from Cafetaleros and Morelia, so they might be improving in that area, but I do not see that would be enough against an in-form Queretaro. Some players in Queretaro played on Cimarrones on previous seasons, and this season Queretaro send several youth players to Cimarrones so they get experience and improve. Queretaro After the opener defeat against America, the team has obtained streak of three matches without defeat, with one victory in Copa MX and another in Liga MX, the team has know how to balance their many matches, alternating players and obtaining the desired results, in Liga MX the main lineup obtained a great away victory and then the alternative squad get a good result in Copa MX against Morelia. This week the team is expected to repeat the same use of players, in Liga MX the team field the main team and obtained a scoreless draw against the current champion, Tigres UANL. Therefore an alternative squad is expected in this match, in order to get a step closer to secure qualification to next stage, only Matias Britos of the new arrivals is with the team. Prediction An interesting match, Cimarrones at home would be eager to obtain their first home victory, still Queretaro is a team that with not media fuss has been able to achieve important results this season and will look to dominate the actions of the match. In the bottom of group I due to goal difference, still tie with points with Morelia and Queretaro, something unexpected at the begging of the tournament and something they would like to continue doing and arrive to the knockout stage. This year the team has avoid drawing any match, with equal number of victories and defeats, whether Ascenso MX or Copa MX. At home two victories in four matches, and away two victories in four matches, with equal number of defeats. Is up to see if they players can maintain the good performance they deliver against Queretaro. As with a good performance they would get close to qualification, therefore for them this match key. The team beat Cimarrones Sonora at home back in January, then went and lost on away to Queretaro. Now will encounter again Cimarrones Sonora this time at Hermosillo in Heroe de Nacozari Stadium. The momentum for Morelia is good, with two victories in Liga MX the team has climbed to the top positions in the tournament and took “revenge” of Copa MX defeat against Queretaro, beating them 1-0 at home. With a victory here, the team would encounter the last match with the qualification almost secure. Morelia will use an alternative squad, still due to the importance of the team I expect some players of the first team mainly Miguel Sensores.
