Veracruz
Draw in the weekend, and now returns to Copa MX, reigning champion and with great step on home, the team will receive FC Juarez, which beat them 5-0 at Olympic Stadium Benito Juarez, where Veracruz field an alternate squad, which is expected but added with first team players will will give them the edge for this match, as shown in the match against Santos in Copa MX. FW Furch has been scoring lately and should continue doing it.

FC Juarez
Their situation on Copa MX is quite different than on Ascenso MX, where they barely have obtained their first victory (3-0 against Tampico Madera) but they continue to struggle on away. In their last 9 matches they have just won twice, is yet to see if they victory in Ascenso could mean the start of a good streak.

Match
A level match, as FC Juarez has been irregular and Veracruz should deliver a completely different match from the previous encounter between them and take advantage of playing home. 

Prediction
Expect Veracruz to send first team players together with playing in home, should deliver a performance to get to next stage in Copa MX.

Chiapas FC vs Chivas Guadalajara

For Chiapas things are just bad, after the weekend loss to Chivas, their coach Jose Cardozo was fired, but reinstated after the players requested him back, something the coach Jose Cardozo had never seen. Still their schedule does not provide them with an easy fixture for them to get good results soon. 

Three consecutive defeat in Liga MX, two matches without scoring and considering all competitions six matches without victory.  Expect them to play conservative to try to get a result that will get them to next stage.

 

Chivas Guadalara

Chivas already qualified for next round, has showed in the last couple of week their considerable improvement. Five matches without defeat in Liga MX, with two consecutive victories (one against archrival America), the team environment is very good, players are happy and motivated. In this match  the possibility to play home in the next rounds is what is at stake. The arrival of FW Alan Pulido has contributed to their positive streak, still yet to play in Liga MX, expect him to play some minutes to improve in his form.  

 

For this match the team could field a mixture of main players with substitutes, still the team has a large and strong squad, with plenty of players on the bench that would be starters on any team, like MF Gallo Vazquez, MF Carlos Peña Rodriguez, FW Nestor Calderon, and Miguel Ponce.

 

Match 

Expect a tense match, Chiapas needs to get a good result, meanwhile Chivas wants the victory for next round. Both teams will be cautious at beginning but as match proceed open spaces will be left for both teams. Chivas has a good streak and their great form in the last match should continue in this one. Chiapas is more focused on their coach situation than getting good results. Chivas better playmaking together with strong squad should get a good result here.

Away victory to start Ascenso MX, beat Venados 1-2, during offseason the team change their identity as the logo was changed to get a better local impact. Here also the team expectes an alternative team.

Prediction

Monarcas expects to make a good run this season in Copa MX as last one where they get to the final, both teams are offensive so a very open match is expected. Morelia should impose their quality and take a positive result from this match.

First match in Zacatepec for the team that last season was Coras Tepic. Open the league with a scoreless away draw against Tampico. This match will be on the afternoon, which benefits away team as the local team normally trains at 35ºC as the city is know for its high temperatures during the year. The team can not promote to Liga MX as they do not meet the requirements, so will play only for the silverware this season.

Cruz Azul

After a season to forget the team returns to activity and in a great way with an away victory 0-2 with goals of Edgar Mendez, the negative was that Aldrete missed a penalty. Mendez will play not play this match as he is suspended from Copa del Rey Final. The team will be a mixture of regulars and subtitutes, FW Felipe Mora could make his debut.

Prediction

Cruz Azul is always offensive with Jemez, and he should continue with it, the team normally has broad squad and a good youth system, and I expect them to prevail as the difference between both leagues is important.

Was still a good effort mate. You did really well in the cup bets. if Cruz Azul didn't get the red card so early i reckon they may have possibly went on to win the match, Always difficult and much more of a challenge competing with nine men, just unfortunate but good job regardless

Do you have any thoughts on week 2 of Liga MX? I saw the first week was quite tough, obviously new season, new signings from all teams, Tigre look the standout and it clearly showed when Valencia scored a hat trick on debut. I think they will be a good team to bet on overs for the first part of the tournament, actually i reckon they will win it with there firepower.

I tend to avoid the first three weeks of competition in Liga (you know those unwritten rules!). Tigres looks very powerful, and in the opener Valencia look impressive, but look how things are in Liga MX in the last match he got expelled, here is a constant up and down, winning streaks are not that often seen. Depends against with teams but yes, overs or btts looks like the way to go.

Lobos BUAP debut in Liga MX shows a team that will provide fierce competition, a refreshing change.

Cimarrones Sonora vs Pachuca

In Ascenso MX the team cameback from their home opener defeat with a worked away victory, which will help them as a boost in this match, their second in Copa MX after their defeat against Queretaro. A short group stage with just 3 teams in each group makes every match important in order to be able to achieve qualification to next round.

Pachuca

The lack of funcionality of the team in Liga MX might be related to the departure of Hirving Lozano and arrival of several new players that need to adapt to the team, Japanese Honda is still four week from his debut. In this Copa MX the team should show quite different than the two defeats in Liga MX, as the team has a broad team and the best youth program in México.

Prediction

Cimarrones Sonora will try to provide a good stance but as the clock advances that will make it harder as they have one more match than Pachuca and then they will have only two matches remaining, the level difference of Ascenso MX and Liga MX should be reflected in this match, and Pachuca youth should show the way.

With a two defeat streak against Morelia in Copa MX and Dorados in Ascenso MX, the team will receive Necaxa on his Copa MX home opener, match where they need to obtain at least a point or they will have very difficult to get to next stage. Despite having a defence that has allowed at least two goal in the last three matches in the positive column they have been able to score at least one. As last Copa MX match the team will field an alternative team.

Prediction

The form is with Necaxa, as they have showed a good defence they are favorites for this match. I expect a open match as it proceeds. Necaxa alternative squad is better than Mineros and the score should reflect it.

Rebound from the opener lost Queretaro to beat Pachuca in Hidalgo Stadium by 0-2, only shadowed by the expulsion of G. Rodriguez. Now they will open Copa MX against Atlas, for this team launched a promotion of 3 tickets for 1. Buying for the weekend match will also include a ticket for this match and the next of Copa MX, with a motivation to have huge crowds in all these matches. 

The mind of the media and the team appears to be on the weekend match against Pumas, for which coach Herrera could rest some players, still some players have stated that before Pumas, they have to focus on Atlas in Copa MX. G. Rodriguez from main squad could play this match as he is going to miss the weekend match. Diego Laniez U17 national team callup will be back for the weekend.

Atlas

After their victory in last match the team is unbeaten on two rounds of Liga MX and one of Copa MX. The team has scored at least two goals in each one of those matches. The season looks very bright and could put them in a safe position to avoid relegation in next season as the gap with last place continues to grow. A team with mixture of youth and experience players that tends to play offensive.

Prediction

That the field alternative teams will not change their offensive play styles and I expect both teams to score in this intense and fought match, as the previous matches between them have shown.

Pumas vs Monterrey

Despite a bright beginning with an opener victory, the team lost the next two by 2-1 scores. In Copa MX things have not been better, with a draw against Ascenso MX team Celaya. The situation is not easy fans are not pleased with the work of coach Palencia and if not a good result from the weekend match against Lobos BUAP is obtained, then he could be out of the job. On the positive side, they have been able to score in every match, perhaps in home they will fare better, expect an alternative lineup.

Monterrey

In contrast with Pumas, Monterrey is unbeaten and has not allowed a single goal. The arrival of Aviles Hurtado from Xolos has been an instant result as he has already scored for the team together with Carlos Sanchez are showing a strong midfield. Monterrey will also field an alternative team.

Prediction

With the need of a good result for Pumas, Monterrey should use this in their advantage and get a good result, thats why the -0.25 AH offers a very good value, as they will field alternative squads.

The arrival of Copa MX could not arrive in best moment, as a bad streak in Ascenso MX (three defeats, last one 0-4 to Mineros Zacatecas) provides this match with a rather unique importance as the team will encounter during the weekend Dorados (which deposit having beaten in Copa MX last match, in Ascenso MX Dorados is the leader). With added difficult is that they encounter here a Liga MX side, which makes things more difficult.

Toluca
A great comeback last match as they where able to score two goals in the finals 5 minutes of the match to claim a home victory that almost was a defeat, sadly the team will see  key FW Enrique Trvierio depart to Argentina to Racing de Avellaneda, lucky the team has now Alexis Canelo to cover his absence. The team has collected good results overcoming the long term injury of their starting GK Talavera.

In Copa MX the team open with a 3-0 victory against Dorados, a good result here will put qualification to next stage very near, a mix team is expected.

Prediction
Toluca is the better side in this match and should get a good result, and despite the lineup changes Toluca continues to deliver. Leones Negros should suffer, still they will not make it easy for Toluca.

As opposite as it can be, meanwhile being leader in Ascenso MX with four victories in as many matches, in Copa MX collects two defeats from the same number of matches and their streak in that competitions gets to 10 matches without victory. In Copa MX last five matches they have just been unable to score.

Despite this, the team feels that in home and with their fans they can overcome this and avoid being eliminated.

Toluca

Unbeaten in the four rounds of Liga MX, a scoreless draw against Cruz Azul last round was the first match in four that they did not score at least a goal. In top of Group 1 of Copa MX, the team could secure their qualification to next stage.

The coach has stated that this will not be an easy week, but they have to come above of it.

Prediction

 

The urgency of Dorados to avoid elimination, with the advantage of Toluca of being in the top of group provide a mix that as time proceeds on the match the open spaces that Dorados could leave will be taken on by Toluca to achieve their means. Toluca good defence should prevail in this match.

Recently in a negative streak as they have draw two matches and then lost the last one in home to Leon (altought is fair to say that Leon's Boselli did a great match), but thanks to their two victories in the first two rounds remains in 5th position overall.

In first position of Copa MX Group 9 sharing it with Morelia with 4 points each, with a victory here the team will secure qualification even as a second place of the group.

Mineros Zacatecas

The team seems to be finding their pace as the last two matches collect a away victory and a scoreless home draw, in Ascenso MX things look bright as they remain in the 4th position, but in Copa MX things are rather different as they have lost their two matches this season and this one could be the one to virtually eliminated them.

Prediction

Team is in different form clash here but the home side should rebound and claim a good result from this match and secure qualification for next stage. The need of Mineros do not help them to be able to dominate the match and as the clock moves forward it will made them leave open spaces

With nothing to loose in this match as they have already eliminated from Copa MX, but with a good impulse after finally winning 2-1 to Tampico Madero at home.  At fourth position in Ascenso MX, the team would like to exit with at least something from Copa MX as four defeats in four matches is not something to look forward.

Monarcas Morelia

After a period where it seems to team was going down, a stretch of five matches without victory, the team have won the last two against Pumas and America which have help them to recover in Liga MX and jump to the top 10 of the competition, meanwhile in Copa MX the team are unbeaten in three matches,with qualification almost in their hands is just to see if the are able to finish in the first position of the group.

Prediction

A team with everything to win and another with nothing to loose, Mineros Zacatecas has just Ascenso MX to look forward to, meanwhile Morelia are almost on the opposite side, alive in Liga MX and with almost qualification in Copa MX. Is expected a rather interesting match with both teams looking to take the victory, but Morelia quality should impose conditions and obtain the victory.

Just one victory in Copa MX, away victory 0-2 to Dorados is what maintains Leones Negros alive on Copa MX, rather different step on Ascenso MX, where winless in seven matches the team looks very difficult the rest of the season. Even last month in Ascenso MX lost 2-1 against Dorados.

But with this last opportunity, the team needs to obtain the points in order to wait for other results and in the case they obtain them, proceed to next stage. This match could be the home debut of Panama's FW Jorlian Sanchez.

Dorados Sinaloa

A great performance in Ascenso MX, where they are leaders of the competition, but in Copa MX they continue their bed streak getting to eleven consecutive matches being defeat, this and the last one they did not won a single group stage match, and with just one match left, the team might try to change this as they team is already eliminated from the competition.

With just pride to play, and avoid anothe Copa MX edition with 0 points. In the last five matches they have just one victory 2-1 against Leones Negros on home, but now they go away, where their form leaves a lot to desire.

Prediction

The motivation is on side of Leones Negros, and Dorados with nothing to loose might save players as on Ascenso MX they are making a good tournament, therefore I sense Leones Negros posses the value, still a short stake as they have to leave open spaces to open the rival defense that could leave them expose, still I do not see a Dorados victory.

Leon vs Queretaro

Despite two victories in seven matches, coach Torrente was fired and newcomer to the club Gustavo Diaz started strong with five consecutive victories in Liga MX, three of them at  home (where he is unbeaten). The alarms went off as the last two matches they where unable to win but both whee on away, not the team returns home for two matches, this of Copa MX (where the team won four of four in group stage) and then against Veracruz in Liga MX.

Despite not scoring in the last two matches, the team had scored at least a goal in the last 15 matches, and they have in the team Liga MX scoring leader Mauro Boselli, which is their best attacking option. 

To play in home gives them the advantage but against a team that recently change coach levels things as they could be encounter with something unexpected and how they adapt to that will be key to advance to next stage. 

Queretaro

After a stream of 11 matches without victory, although 4 away draws, coach Lozano was fired together with the sports director, a complete overhaul of the team is expected, in the meantime coach Luis Fernando Tena will take the coaching position and will debut in this match, 

The one area where the team needs an urgent overhaul is the defense as they have allowed at least a goal in the last 8 matches, with an average of two goals allowed in the last four, if the defence had perform better, the situation would be very different.

For this match the team might focus first on their defence and look to counterattack, as the loser of the match is eliminated. Let’s keep in mind that the main concern for Queretaro is that they are almost last in the relegation table so their next matches of Liga MX posses more value for them.

Prediction

Due to the form of both teams, and the recent developments, it will not be an easy match as a lot of what might happen depends on how Queretaro presents itself, which might want to complicate things for Leon, still Leon playing on home and their quality are factors I consider will have a greater influence in the match and allowed them to proceed to next stage.

Tight match, few scoring chances, a long distance goal from Queretaro to take the lead, then Leon was able to equalize thanks to a great header from Boselli, but where unable to score again before the end of the match.

Monterrey vs Pachuca

Monterrey
Leader of Liga MX regular season, went on to the playoffs and reached the final with the intention to win it, but lost the Monterrey Derby to Tigres UANL despite closing the second leg at home, where only a goal was the difference between both teams. A hard defeat that will take some time to be forgotten, and obtaining Copa MX will be a step on the right direction for curing the pain.

Now the team has the “advantage” of playing home, as they have lost two finals here, the first one precisely against Pachuca in Clausura 2016. The team is well rested and despite having eleven days between the final and this match the team look forward for this match.

Monterrey showed in the final their good attack as they generate important scoring chances, but their defense have some serious lapses that where key on the global score, here they need to maintain focus and not allow goals if they are to win the title, if one thing the team has showed if they do not get desperated if they are down in the scoreline which will be key for a good result.

Pachuca
Did not qualify for the playoffs of Liga MX, but where able to achieve qualification to Copa MX final and then went to the Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates (14,346 kilometers from Mexico) to play FIFA Club World Cup, where they played three matches, winning the first, then went on to battle Gremio for a place in the final but where relegated to the 3rd place match as Gremio was able to score in the extratime, therefore the team went to claim the 3rd place.

The long trip they made to Abu Dhabi will be an important factor to consider in this match, the player sustain a long journey together with playing three matches in seven days, one of them very fierce against Gremio, and together with the fatigue, jet lag is a factor to consider.

FW Urreaviscaya will not be available as their is a clause in its transfer that he can not play against Monterrey, which will be an important absence for Pachuca.

Match
A month after the second semifinal (Pachuca vs Atlante) was played, Copa MX will have it final match. Monterrey arrives rested, ready and eager to recover from Liga MX lost title, meanwhile Pachuca had a long journey and is yet to see if they will field an alternative team or how they will sort things out, but the fatigue was visible two days ago when the team arrived to Mexico. Therefore expect Pachuca to relay on letting Monterrey dominate the actions and the look to counterattack which might deliver an interesting match.

Prediction
Monterrey seemed unbeatable until the final where Tigres UANL showed they are not. I think that will help the team for this match and they will dominate the actions and I expect its great attack will provide them with the edge to take the title home. Pachuca will not make it easy but I do not see them winning it.
