Bamford
Oakmont is a 'bear' of a golf course according to Brandt Snedeker. I take it from that he means it has real-teeth. It's a pure poa annua greened course which are rarities (most have a level of bentgrass in them) and plenty of golfers simply hate these putting surfaces. There will be rain on Thursday which will soften this course, but this won't be a 2011 Rory birdie-fest. I thought closely about Kuchar, Garcia and young Matthew Fitzpatrick. Chris Wood might be an option as might Martin Kaymer. However players who can hit plenty of greens, save par from the fairway rough and minimise 3-putts will get the job done. So Day (7), Fowler (33), Snedeker (70) and Leishman (90).
IanH
Best player to figure on hardest course Jason Day can confirm his status as the world’s number one by winning the US Open this week. Phil Mickelson believes Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania that stages the event is the hardest tournament course in the world and Tiger Woods has commented in the past that a five handicap amateur would struggle to break 100. The second major of the season is the most brutal and only the bravest can survive the mental onslaught. Par is a great score and birdies are like gold dust. Tedthewolf
Rory 8/1 with Betfair Sportsbook played him e/w 1/4 1-6 hard not seeing him playing a major part in this and 8's is just about backable.
BigMozzyDog
Anirban Lahiri for me at 250/1 with Paddy Power. A hugely underrated player who has a top five finish in him. Oakmont is tough tea to green, but it is the ability to read these tricky greens that will be key. That could cost some top players here. Lahiri top on the European Tour this year when you combine GIR and putts per round stats. He could go pretty well. I'm also on Soren Kjeldsen, Daniel Summerhays and Phil Mickleson. cannastar
An old wise head might be what is needed this week on this course and one who may fit the bill could be Jeff maggert for top twenty Finnish at 40/1 with betfred. Could also pay to include in first round leader betting also as he has a early wish tee time when hopefully conditions may be more favourable.he has performed credibly before at the venue in the year angel Cabrera won the us open so could be value at huge odds 500/1 with coral first five places
Torque
Thanks to IanH for the ratings as they helped me to decide who to back. I place a high premium on form and also course/tournament form and I also consider price. With those things in mind I'm taking the following players from the top end of the market on the exchanges at a point each. Rose @ 36.00 Mickelson @ 36.00 Scott @ 38.00 Kuchar @ 44.00 Garcia @ 55.00 Edited June 16, 2016 by Torque
owenclass
Bubba Watson First round leader 50/1 paddy power He has experience on this course and you do have to drive the ball well so he has a great chance of doing well here
Fader
I'll be taking Willett to do well this week along with Rose. Willett has a chance to replicate Spieth by winning back to back majors and I think 50/1 is too big a price for that despite the unlikelyhood. Rose looks to be over his injuries and raring to go so I will be taking a punt on him too. Spieth must be up there and for me, I see him being 1st round leader. 18/1 seems too big for me in that market. In the match-ups I've picked out 2 nice ones. Reed is tipped to do well this week by many and Id favour him over Kuchar or Bubba right now. Berger is a good up and coming prospect and can post higher than Wiesberger & Mannasero. Outrights : 1pt D.Willett to win US Open 50/1 BetVictor 1pt J.Rose to win US Open 33/1 Coral1st Round leaders : 1.5pts J.Spieth 1st round leader 18/1 Betfred 0.5pts Z.Johnson 1st round leader 80/1 BetvictorMatch-ups : 2.5pts P.REED / M.Kuchar / B.Watson 21/10 Coral 2.5pts D.BERGER / B.Wiesberger / M.Mannasero 1/1 Bet365
neilovan
For me one guy definitely worth taking a stab on is Brandon Grace. He has a perfect low ball flight, off the TEE and can smack it miles. At 30-1 my money is going there
owenclass
I think Branden Grace has got a great chance as he is not that far behind the leaders
