gogetta
Mid-season review The second part of the Serie B championship has now gone two rounds and new dynamics are emerging. The top four teams in the promotion zone (G4) are struggling both in form and in maintaining their positions in G4 (mainly because the other teams have identified their strengths and weaknesses). And they are now contending with a group of teams that have now re-grouped, reorganized/reinforced and re-focused to have a go for the promotion spots. The notable ones gaining momentum on-field include Brasil Pelotas, Bahia, Nautico, Oeste, Luverdense, Paysandu and possibly Goias. The mid-table is quite tight; with eleven teams (from 6th to 16th) separated by just 5 points. The relegation zone (Z4) is beginning to drift away; but has teams that have not given up yet, dangerous and are beginning to cause upsets. The championship has reached a very lively phase, but more difficult to predict! # team G W D L points 1 Vasco da Gama 21 12 5 4 41 2 Atletico GO 21 10 7 4 37 3 Ceara 21 10 6 5 36 4 CRB 21 10 4 7 34 5 Brasil de Pelotas 21 9 6 6 33 6 Bahia 21 9 4 8 31 7 Nautico 21 9 4 8 31 8 Londrina EC 21 8 7 6 31 9 Criciuma 21 8 5 8 29 10 Oeste FC 21 7 8 6 29 11 Luverdense 21 6 10 5 28 12 Paysandu 21 6 10 5 28 13 Vila Nova 21 7 5 9 26 14 Avai FC 21 7 5 9 26 15 Goias 21 6 8 7 26 16 Parana Clube 21 6 8 7 26 17 Bragantino 21 5 6 10 21 18 Joinville 21 5 6 10 21 19 Tupi 21 5 4 12 19 20 Sampaio Correa 21 2 8 11

gogetta
Couldn't post any previews yesterday. But, as earlier indicated in the mid-season review, upsets may be the running theme in this second phase of the championship. Two results stood out last night. League leaders Vasco Da Gama were beaten at home 2-1 by Vila Nova, a team with the lowest payroll in the league and currently in the midst of financial and other off-field issues (two players left the club just two days to last night's game)! Paysandu, one of the consistent performers and had not lost since early June, was pummeled 3-0 at home by relegation strugglers Tupi! Meanwhile, championship newcomers Brasil Pelotas and Londrina have inched closer to the promotion G4 mix.

gogetta
Bragantino vs Sampaio Game is a battle of relegation survival for both teams. Home team is rejuvenated after getting it's first win in four games, 1-0 away to Tupi on Saturday. This followed a 2-0 home loss to Brasil Pelotas last Tuesday, when Bragantino conceded two counter-attack goals - prompting Coach Marcelo Veiga to re-focus on strengthening the defensive system. Therefore, in the away game against Tupi, team engaged in nullifying the moves of its opponent with lots of marking and closing the game even further after scoring the goal in a rare attack. In the game against Sampaio, Coach Veiga also seeks his team to impose itself, with more concentration to reduce mistakes. Similarly, the visitors are buoyed by a thrilling 4-3 home win against Nautico and are seeking momentum to gain much-needed points against direct rivals. Despite his team's attacking display in that game, Coach Flavio Araujo will be keen to correct the glaring defensive errors and will be helped by the return of his defence lynchpin Lucas Otavio. Moreover, the highlight of that offensive display, striker Pimentinha who scored two goals and engineered two penalties for the other two goals, will be missing this time. Attacking midfielder Daylan is also suspended. Under 2.5 goals Result: Bragantino 2-1 Sampaio Edited September 7, 2016 by gogetta

gogetta
Nautico vs Bahia Hosts come from two straight losses, in which the team conceded 6 goals. Alexandre Galo was relieved of his job as coach and replaced by 68-year old Givanildo Oliveira, who will be taking charge of his first game against Bahia. Off the field, the club has also signed a new shirt sponsorship deal, commencing with the game against Bahia. The new coach has had only four days to get to know his new team but he brings freshness, new attitude and commitment from the players in this game. In the first round of the championship, Nautico was the best team at home and seeks to re-discover this strength against Bahia. But the team is hampered by limited attacking options for this game, due to injuries. Meanwhile the visitors are back in form under new coach Guti Fereira, unbeaten in the second round with three wins and two draws. This is a game of direct competitors for promotion. Short-handed in attack and having leaked many goals in recent games, the hosts will be keen to display an improved defence. gogetta
In keeping with recent seasons, Serie B is difficult and the top half of the table remains more balanced. With four promotional spots available, the top two spots appear to be destined for Vasco Da Gama and Atletico-Go; both on 48 points and have broken off from the chasing pack largely due to their consistency and the oscillating performance of those chasing them. These two will be facing each other this weekend! With 12 rounds to go, the remaining two promotional spots are up for grabs, in an open fight that involves six or even more teams! Just two points separate the teams from third place (Brasil de Pelotas) and eighth place (Londrina); while two points separate the next four teams. Meanwhile the teams in the relegation zone continue to raise their game, further bunching up the overall table. With every team scrapping for points, matches have become harder to predict and outcomes determined on details. # team games points 1 Vasco da Gama 26 48 2 Atletico GO 26 48 3 Brasil de Pelotas 26 40 4 Ceara 27 40 5 Bahia 26 39 6 CRB 26 39 7 Avai FC 26 39 8 Londrina EC 26 39 9 Criciuma 26 37 10 Vila Nova 26 37 11 Nautico 26 36 12 Luverdense 27 36 13 Parana Clube 26 33 14 Paysandu 26 32 15 Goias 26 31 16 Oeste FC 26 31 17 Bragantino 26 27 18 Tupi 26 25 19 Joinville 26 24 20 Sampaio Correa 26

gogetta
Criciuma vs Vila Nova Both teams are in form; but hosts are three points ahead, with better head-to-head advantage, scoring more and defending better at the moment. They come from a 2-0 away win against relegation battler Tupi and, with a clear ambition of promotion to Serie A, they seek another win to reduce the 5-point gap to the promotion zone (G4). Coach Roberto Cavalo has a full strength squad (no injuries or suspension) and will ensure first team continuity in this match. The club has mobilized to ensure a packed stadium for the game. The visitors' overall performance has been a surprise, amidst a financial draw-back (inadequate investment in the squad plus delayed payment of players' wages). Their main concern is to ensure survival in the division and with 40 points already, they have adopted a game-to-game strategy and are close to this target. They come from a narrow and lucky 1-0 away win over Oeste, who exerted tremendous second-half pressure on Vila Nova (forcing errors) even after going a man down. Further, Vila nova is distracted by the forthcoming Goiania derby ( against Goias on 15th October) and there is rumored consideration for conserving some key players that are close to automatic suspension (with two yellow cards), like Midfielder Victor Bolt. Indeed, Coach Guilherme Alves has delayed to reveal the starting eleven till close to the start of this game against Criciuma. Better form and motivation lie with the hosts. gogetta
Parana vs CRB Home side is in crisis, coming from five straight losses. Fans have been boycotting home matches over the team's poor performance and other administrative complaints. Moreover, there are still several player absences (three in defence, one in midfield and one upfront). Massive pressure on the team before this game. Meanwhile CRB is seeking points to close the 5-point gap into the promotion zone (G4). The team is coming from a disappointing 2-1 home loss to current table-leaders Atletico Go; in which CRB had a good first-half performance and could have opened a 2-goal lead but they were instead punished with a late winning goal! The team's impressive performance this season has hinged on good results away from home. And they come into this match wounded and seeking a reaction; keen to erase the defensive and offensive errors of the last game. They come up against a team in crisis.
