These two sides last met in the Copa Libertadores back in 2013, playing two group stage games the first ending 0-1 to Nacional and the second finishing 0-1 to Boca. Both sides are no stranger to this competition, Nacional having won it three times in their history whilst their opponents Boca Juniors have won it six times, the most recent in 2007. Both will be looking to get a good result here to take their advantage into the second leg, whilst Nacional will have to be careful not to concede an away goal that could settle the game if it ends in a draw after both legs.

Boca Juniors look the stronger team based on the two sides form, losing only two games in their last nine, however, their away form does not look as good, they have only won two away games in their last six whilst drawing one and losing the remaining three. This may give hope to Nacional that they can get a good result at home in this match, especially considering the fact that they have only lost once in their last seven games at home, winning five and drawing one.

Because of the head to head record between the two sides and their home record compared to Boca’s record away it looks as though Nacional will be able to get the result in this match. Boca Juniors have an excellent scoring record however, and as a result, should be able to score at least one goal in this match. For these reasons both teams to score.

The two clubs have met a total of five times in their history with their last game being a club friendly, played in 2014 and ending 0-1 to Boca Juniors. Out of those five games, Nacional have won three whilst Boca have managed two victories, there has never been a draw between the two sides. Nacional have scored an average of 0.8 goals per game when playing Boca, whilst Boca have scored an average of 1 goal per game.

Nacional come into this game on the back of an unbeaten run of five games, having picked up one loss, three draws and two wins in their last six played. Their form in this competition has been similar managing two wins five draws and one loss so far. They have registered an average of 1 goal per game whilst also conceding an average of a goal per game. Boca Juniors meanwhile, have only lost two matches in their last nine played and have also had good form in this competition so far, winning five matches whilst drawing three and losing none. They have scored an average of 2 goals per game whilst conceding an average of 0.8 per game.

Nacional manager Gustavo Munúa has no injuries or suspensions to contend with for this game.

Boca Juniors head coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto is currently missing three players: 19 year old defensive midfielder Andrés Cubas (ligament problems), 30 year old defensive midfielder Fernando Gago (Achilles tendon rupture) and 27 year old attacking midfielder Nicolás Lodeiro (Meniscus tear).
