Newb 3.35 - Zarib - EW at 18/1 bog PP

Big handicap of the day

My selection was a decent juvenile last season and made a perfectly good seasonal debut finishing 3rd in the Wincanton Grade 2 race in November, sent off favourite.

His only run since then was when finishing 6th in The Ladbroke, beaten about 6 lengths, running on late, nearest finish.

Today might put a bit of extra emphasis on stamina with softer ground, slightly longer trip and that long Newbury straight run in where horses can get a good gallop on. He's a CD winner, the cheekpieces go on today and the 5lb claimer gets up (she's won 2 of her last 5 rides, both for this trainer)

Obviously it's hugely competitive but I just fancy having a runner in the big race rather than fannying around picking 2/1 losers around the gaffs ..........:loon

Knew you'd stick that up fella :lol

Must be funny if you shout these home in your local bookmakers, what with William of Orange running on Tuesday past, be ok if you live in Larkhall lol.

Great Chinese take-away there called the Orange Wok  :lol

Newbury 4.45 - Ballyandy 3/1 Bet365

I was tossing up between this one and a big price in the Betfair Hurdle but unless Mullin's debutante turns out to be very smart, I don't see him being beaten. He is way ahead on ratings and his penalty wont stop him. He pulled a long way clear with the smart winner and the 4th has since run well behind the also impressive Gurteen on hurdling debut. I'm not normally a big backer of these types of races because there is always a worry that something will improve dramatically but he is that far clear of the field I couldnt resist with the Mullins horse creating value.

3.35 Newbury - Agrapart e/w @ 22/1 SkyBet

Hurdle form all working out really well including when 3rd behind Yorkhill in the Tolworth even though he was essentially 5lbs wrong at the weights with Lizzie unable to use her claim. That was a really good run and he was only raised 3lbs for that and the move to handicap company which promises to be run at a strong pace should really suit as this horse is quite keen. Taking a lead off one of his competitors here should really help him settle.

W3.50 Headlys Bridge sp

The horse has won twice on heavy ground and gets the services of one of the best 5lb claimers around today (for the first time) and that is a major plus. Hard to know if the trainer has the horse fit after a break but the early money for it is encouraging at least

3.35 Newbury

The big handicap of the day, the Betfair Hurdle, and a vintage renewal with 22 runners and many in with chances. The favourite is Blazer trained by Willie Mullins who has four other runners. He won easily last weekend and takes his chance with a 5lb penalty. Sternrubin and War Sound both have a chance from the Philip Hobbs yard while Paul Nicholls relies on Modus who runs in a handicap for the first time. My two against the filed are Zarib and Agrapart, both well handicapped and come from yards in form. Zarib just gets the nod and is ridden by the useful lady rider Bridget Andrews who claims a handy 5lbs.

Selection: EW Zarib 20/1 Bet365
