Both sides switch captains for the tests. Hashim Amla will lead the visitors while Virat Kohli, fresh off India’s first series win in Sri Lanka for over 20 years, takes over from MS Dhoni. The first Test in Mohali will be Kohli’s captaincy debut at home and you know he will to want to commemorate the occasion with a victory. But while India have a different captain, the same problems remain. They need to find balance in their side, not just pick all the best players they have available. Names need to go out of the window.

In the first game Murali Vijay was recalled and Cheteshwar Pujara was moved back to his prefered slot at three. Under-fire opener, Shikhar Dhawan retained his place at the top of the order. And quite right too. The guy had two tons in his previous two test. Three in his last three first-class games. In this format he’s on fire. The fluent 45 not out he scored in that truncated first game, may give him some impetus. The problem for India is, if the spinners don't fire, are they good enough to win the game?

AB de Villiers is a machine. Providing he copes with nemesis Ravi Ashwin, he may be able to provide the strong performance for his side to build around. It was the great man’s 100th test last time, and he celebrated by hauling his team to a half acceptable score.

Virat Kohli, fresh off India’s first series win in Sri Lanka for over 20 years, takes over from MS Dhoni. But while India have a different captain, the same problems remain. They rely too heavily on the spin twins, with Binny and Aaron simply out of their depth at this level. South Africa are a side adept at bouncing back, and the side will put the performance on that single day in Mohali out of their minds. They need to bat better up to, but Amla and du Plessis are top class. A decent start and they can beat India.

With the ball, India have been sensational. Ravi Ashwin especially with 24 wickets in just five innings so far. 

Ashwin looks a stick on to be top Indian bowler in this final test, and the price reflects it. But aside from his fellow tweaker, Jadeja, there isn’t any competition. He simply has the wood over too many of the SA batters.
