England vs Australia ODI Series

3pts Australia to beat England at 8/11 with Stan James In recent months England have made much of their limited overs revival which is supported by a strong display in the New Zealand series. More is expected of England now than in any other ODI series in recent memory, and that may prove to be a burden for the new and exciting crop of young players. Add to that, batsman Joe Root has been rested and granted some well-earned time off a la Eoin Morgan. He is arguably the country's best player at present but England could feel the full benefit of the freshness that Root will enjoy when they travel to the UAE to face Pakistan. They will equally feel the detrimental effect in this series. It’s likely that Australia will open the batting with Warner and Burns and look to apply pressure to the England attack from the off. It is how that attack manages the pressure that could decide the game. For me the Aussies have too much quality and destructive power to lose. Much has been made of the failure of some key players on this tour, but in the 50 over game they will add the ex-factor of Glenn Maxwell and Nathan Coulter-Nile to players who will feel more at home, like Mitchell Starc and the under-used Pat Cummins. They will have too much for the hosts. You can read a full preview here: https://www.punterslounge.com/odi-cricket-australia-to-turn-the-tide-in-their-best-format

2pts Australia to win the series 4-1 at 7/2 with Skybet Steve Smith is the best batsman in the world bar the rested Joe Root and he showed in the final Ashes test and the T20I that he is in supreme form. George Bailey will always be as reliable as his namesake in It’s A Wonderful Life, and Glenn Maxwell will continue to offer his own brand of excellence on a hit and miss basis. They also have the all-round abilities of Mitchell Marsh and Shane Watson to add balance to their side, so it remains to be seen if they will select a specialist tweaker in Ashton Agar given the presence of Maxwell’s useful part-time spin. With their seam bowling as strong as it is, it’s hard to see anything other than an Australian series win in the format that has done them so well for nearly twenty years. England will click for periods and are likely to secure a victory. 3pts Australia to beat England at 8/13 with Coral There is no doubt that the England team is full of quality but there is a lack of game management ability and experience, with the possible exception of Eoin Morgan who was unlucky to be snared down the leg side at The Ageas Bowl when setting himself. For England there have been some very strange selection calls too. Picking Woakes looks like another desperate attempt to shoehorn in a bowler who bats, rather than picking the best bowling attack. The supremely talented Sam Billings being left out is another odd call with Jos Buttler surely becoming more vulnerable in all formats. On a positive note Adil Rashid showed why he should have been playing for over a year and looked to have great rhythm. In terms of batting it’s hard to say how close England could have got were it not for a very generous ten minute spell when four middle order wickets were donated to Australia’s least threatening bowlers. One thing that looks nailed on is Australia’s certainty in the 50 over game. Their team looks balanced. Players know their role but have the experience to read the game. Youngsters like Joe Burns and Pat Cummins are shrouded by players who are World Cup winners. 3pts Australia to beat England at 8/13 with Stan James England have made a change to their line-up by resting Jos Buttler for the remainder of the summer. Jonny Bairstow comes in as gloveman after being dropped from the squad following the New Zealand series. In the last game of that series he was man of the match, which made his being omitted even more strange. Australia on the other hand have suffered injury setbacks with David Warner returning home nursing a broken thumb and Nathan Coulter-Nile a major doubt with a hamstring problem. Does that mean they won’t win at Old Trafford? No. Steve Smith, Darren Lehmann and his team won’t care in the least about the controversy surrounding the Stokes dismissal. They got their man and will continue to play hard with the aim of leaving this island with some momentum and a few scalps. I think that any fire in the belly of Eoin Morgan’s team could work against them in the face of a potent bowling attack and some punishing hitters.
