Caribbean Premier League 2015

Tournament preview: 3pts Jamaica Tallawahs to win Caribbean Premier League 5/2 Betfred I have this tournament between two sides – Jamaica Tallawahs and St Lucia Zouks. I wouldn’t complete dismiss Barbados but it is the first two who I expect to compete in the final and although they’re the favourites for the tournament I can’t see past Jamaica. The quality they have in their bowling attack is there for all to see and with Gayle in the form he is in he could single-handedly take them to the title. If he doesn’t then Mahela Jayawardene or Andre Russell could so Jamaica have plenty of matchwinners which is what you need in this tournament. Game 1 preview: 4pts Barbados Tridents to beat Guyana Amazon Warriors 10/11 William Hill I like the balance of the Barbados side this season and they seem to have done well to sign players who are available straight away. Given that this is their home leg in the tournament it is important for them to be at full strength from the off. The Tridents players will want to give the passionate home crowds something to cheer and with T20 specialists Smith, Pollard and Holder to get behind the crowds should come flooding in. Barbados look better balanced of the two sides here and can land this opener. Game 2 preview: 4pts St Lucia Zouks to beat Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel Evs Ladbrokes This should be a really competitive match but I’m going to side with the extra firepower that the Zouks have. You can tell by the players they’ve signed both domestic and from abroad that they are serious about things this season and they have the platform to play up and show what is good about themselves here. Trinidad and Tobago look good with the ball but the likes of Pietersen, Charles, Sammy and Fletcher can take any bowling attack to the cleaners. Trinidad aren’t going to blast sides away with the bat and in the current T20 climate I think power will be big in the early stages of this tournament so it is the Zouks for me. Game 3 preview: 4pts Jamaica Tallawahs to beat Barbados Tridents 10/11 Betway 1pt A.Russell Top Jamaica Batsman 10/1 Boylesports In fairness to Barbados they have a bowling attack to be competitive against most sides but this Jamaica batting line up is as fearsome as you will find at this level of T20 cricket and that can prove the difference. Jamaica have the batting line up to proceed even if Gayle fails so I’ll take them and just in case he does a small punt on Andre Russell to top score could be worth taking too. Game 4 preview: 4pts K.Pietersen's Performance Pts (vs St Kitts) 32&Over 5/6 Bet365 Pietersen has been in great form with the bat in 2015. He was second top scorer in the Big Bash, belted a triple century in the County Championship and started well here. With catching potential and maybe the odd over of spin a performance target of 32pts is well within his reach. Game 5 preview: 4pts Barbados Tridents to beat T&T Red Steel 4/5 Ladbrokes I’m siding with the Tridents in this match. I didn’t think much to the Red Steel’s bowling effort in St Lucia and if they bowl that wayward to the power hitters in this Barbados side then their bowlers are likely to go the distance again. Game 9 preview: 4pts Jamaica Tallawahs vs St Kitts & Nevis Patriots - Over 14.5 sixes 10/11 Paddy Power I’m going with the sixes in this match. Both sides have a number of clean hitters of a cricket ball and on the first match on this ground I expect a really good wicket given the amount of cricket that is to be played here over the next week or so. Game 10 preview: 4pts Barbados Tridents to beat St Lucia Zouks Evs Boylesports I think the Tridents are the better all round side of these two and when you throw in the head to head record between the two as well then the Tridents are a confident pick here. I worry about the St Lucia batting if they lose a couple of early wickets whereas the Tridents bat a long way down and that can be the difference in this one. Game 11 preview: 4pts St Kitts Most 6s vs Guyana Evs Betfred That is St Kitts and Nevis to hit the most sixes. They blasted seven sixes on this ground against a top notch Jamaica bowling attack in their last match and that is good form. A repeat of that could be enough again because Guyana are likely to go in with Dilshan and Chanderpaul in their top three and neither of them are massively prolific in the six hitting department and by the time the six hitters come in for Guyana the horse may have already bolted. Game 15 preview: 4pts St Kitts and Nevis to beat Barbados 11/8 Ladbrokes Barbados were well beaten in their previous match and now have to do without Malik and it isn’t just his batting that is a loss, his off spin could be more than useful here too. St Kitts are at home as well and they have enough going for them for me to take them as a value punt here. Game 16 preview: 4pts Jamaica Tallawahs to beat St Lucia Zouks 10/11 Ladbrokes Jamaica battered St Lucia in the reverse fixture between these two and now that they are on home soil I expect a repeat here. Jamaica look to have the perfect balance to their attack for this wicket with good spin options and a seam attack that are adept at bowling slower balls. Game 17 preview: 4pts St Kitts and Nevis Patriots to beat Guyana Amazon Warriors 11/10 Stan James I think the Patriots have the ideal bowling attack for this ground and given the light batting that Guyana have I think the home side have to be the call in this one. Guyana might be competitive with the ball but St Kitts and Nevis have found a groove with the bat now and their depth and bowling mite should see them home here. Game 18 preview: 4pts Jamaica vs T&T - Under 14.5 sixes 5/6 William Hill The sixes line for this match is at 14.5 and even though there were 15 in the first match here I think that line is a little high. Usually scores get lower and lower here and given that the Red Steel’s can barely buy a run they might not contribute too many to the pot. T&T can bowl well though and if Gayle goes early not many Jamaicans are in form so I’ll take the unders here. Game 19 preview: 4pts St Kitts and Nevis to beat St Lucia 11/10 Ladbrokes I think St Kitts and Nevis are worth another go in this match. I know they let us down in their last match but Darren Sammy’s influence on any side is a big thing and he is going to be a big loss for them. Kevin Pietersen’s captaincy record is another to write home about and I think St Lucia’s pace attack won’t suit this wicket. St Kitts are much better suited to these conditions and can bounce back from Wednesday’s disappointment with a win here. Game 21 preview: 4pts C.Gayle Top Jamaica Batsman vs Barbados 7/4 Ladbrokes The match markets for this game look about right so now could be the time to board the Chris Gayle bandwagon. He is in an amazing run of form right now. His last 10 scores have been 41, 92, 151*, 85*, 9, 90*, 72*, 8, 64* and 105 so he is going fantastically well and even at 7/4 he is Jamaica’s most likely top scorer. Game 23 preview: 4pts Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel to beat St Lucia Zouks 5/6 Stan James I’m prepared to take the Red Steel in this match as they carry some positivity with them from their win last time out and they’ve dominated the Zouks in their three completed matches to date in CPL history. Game 24 preview: 4pts Guyana Amazon Warriors to beat Jamaica Tallawahs 11/10 William Hill We’ve seen all tournament so far that if Chris Gayle doesn’t fire then Jamaica don’t and with the likes of Permaul and Narine around there is no guarantees that the big man will get going in this match. Even if he does he can’t always win matches on his own as Somerset found out so I’ll take Guyana here. Game 25 preview: 4pts Barbados Most 6s vs T&T 8/11 Boylesports I wouldn’t be totally surprised if the Tridents win this match but they need to prove to me they have the bowling attack for slow conditions before I support them but the one thing they do have in their ranks is a batting line up that is big hitting all the way down. Trinidad are struggling with the bat so Barbados hitting the most sixes looks the way to go here. Game 26 preview: 4pts Guyana Amazon Warriors to beat St Lucia Zouks 10/11 Ladbrokes I like the Amazon Warriors here. I fear a little for the Zouks batting line up and its lack of depth and I really worry about the make up of their bowling attack on this wicket. I don’t think pacers will get much out of it and that could play into the hands of the Warriors who look to have the ideal attack for this track. In truth their batting lacks depth too but their bowling can make up for that and they’re the call here. Game 27 preview: 3pts St Kitts & Nevis Patriots to beat Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel 7/5 Unibet St Kitts and Nevis have the right amount of big hitters in their side and the number of spin options and bowlers who can bowl change ups so they could well pull of the shock they need in a match they have to win. Game 30 preview: 4pts Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel to beat Guyana Amazon Warriors Evs BetVictor Trinidad & Tobago have won their last three so they are on a bit of a roll and I’m very much a fan of sides who have winning form behind them when the fixtures come thick and fast like they do in this tournament. Red Steel look more solid with the bat and good with the ball and it is them for me here.
