Rags to Riches , Zero to Hero , Drained to Revitalised Challenge

After a disappointing start to the year on the poker front and cutting my poker bankroll down due to variance and poor BR management trying to fit in quick games when not got the time or patience to grind out my strongest games which are the MTT fields. So with £100 still left in my seperate BR for poker I have decided that it is truly time for me to have a rethink. So the concept is simple I will not make anyone deposits on any sites for the foreseeable future and see where we end up currently have a very few amount of FPPs on Stars , about £2 on BetFred and about $17 on PKR I believe but apart from that I will be looking around for freeroll's and grinding them pennies out. The main aim is to find enjoyment in play the game again which has deserted me a lot lately , I also want to stop the leaking of money which has been more of a battle since working and technically having the money to reload but I want to keep poker in the main separate from the rest of my money unless of course I get to play live at a event maybe APAT or 25/25 if can arrange a suitable time. Other points for me to consider in this time is realising where my skill edge is and not over estimating what games I think I have a edge and trying to find my A-Game , to refocus on learning strategy and making sure I adjust my game correctly in any given scenario. I known this has been a long road to understanding truly what I want to realistically achieve and I thought I had cracked it while out of work but since working again I have had a constant battle was chasing the quick buck instead of following good bankroll management and grinding out that steady ROI. So I'm under no illusion's that I have failed to stick to plenty of previous challenges done on my own back , I seem to have a better record when staked maybe that's just variance in part but I'm probably playing my stronger games and focusing better as dislike letting others down when they show faith , but when on my own roll I frequently start off with a decentish close run in MTT then after busting as a favorite take my slightly tilted game to the hyper tables and ride the roller-coaster. I may take a few breaks during this if not enjoying playing as no point in getting drained out further. If you have taken the time to read through this I appreciate the support :clap

Re: Rags to Riches , Zero to Hero , Drained to Revitalised Challenge Thanks :clap , The key here is thinking of the long term objective which is to have fun playing the game and hopefully in turn I will benefit in monetary sense as well as using it as game use for enjoyment. For now most the updates will largely be picking up zero or pennies going for the win in Freeroll's however I deliberately kept the challenge as very open with no set specific's this is because if I see value in a MTT that I can't miss I may still hop in but I will say this know I will not be depositing to gamble meaninglessly at the hyper HU tables.

Re: Rags to Riches , Zero to Hero , Drained to Revitalised Challenge Yesterday didn't play any online games took my game to the live felt for a £30 double chance tourney , started off well played pretty tight as every pot was re-raised so didn't get involved , then knocked a short stack out with 1010 vs 99. Here is where starts to get interesting more limps and smaller raises are seeing flop so more opportunity to see a flop including one where it comes 865 rainbow 6 ways I have 98dd in cutoff(so top pair , gutshot & backdoor flush) UTG bets 1k into almost 5k , HJ call , I Call , Button Calls while BB & MP folds , turn was a 2 of hearts eliminating my flush possibilities but the bet was same as on flop 1k so I still can't fold and HJ & Button call again , river is the 7 completing my straight now the UTG checks , HJ checks , I elect to check as Button likes to bluff. Button bets 5K , UTG calls 5k , HJ calls so I decide no point in raising and just call , Button had 94hh for straight , and bizarrely UTG turned over Q9off who bet all streets with gutshot then check/called river and HJ next to me called with just A8 so we chop up his money in that hand. Then I played a interesting hand with 87 I decide to use the fact I been tightest player at table and raise UTG , flop comes AQ6 3 ways and decide to bet out get a call from the Q9off guy and fold from the aggro guy at table , usually I shut down after one bullet but when then 9 hit I decided that was a good card to continue as got outs plus a half decent chance of folding plenty of better hands , he paused for about 30secs and folded. Here is where it started to go against me , 1st off I play KJ in big blind vs button & SB (who was the A8 guy) flop comes K36 rainbow SB bets I Call Button calls , turn is 3 SB bets less than half pot I call button folds . river is a 5 I believe and he bets 5k chip into about 7.5K pot and I half want to fold as don't think he is bluffing but same time in my head he has 3 or my hand is best I call and he shows me quad 3s. Then watching him and the aggro player on table play I see a Q105 2 club board with Q7 of diamonds in the Big Blind vs Small Blind (A8 & Quads Guy) & Button (Aggro Player) SB checks , I check Button bets and Small Blind called so I'm not worried about the SB having much here and the Button c-bet virtually all his raises so I virtually click it back for value from 1150 to 2550 get two flat calls , turn is 8 spades putting 2 spades out but I'm more worried about J9 but it checks around now the 7 of spades hits the river completing a backdoor flush draw but not much else but Small Blind decides to lead 5k like said think he leads the turn with the straight and really can't put him on many value hands that are ahead of my 2 pair but elect just to call as was a bit confused , button folds and he shows A9 of Spades :unsure. Now with my short stack I shoved the last 12 Bigs of my 1st Bullet with AJ in Cut-Off as don't want get in a spot if re-raised and the big blind took his time to call with AK , Flop comes QJ10 and he is like 'oh no' then Ace on turn and blank river before he finally clicked that he actually won the hand in fairness he did seem half-asleep in plenty of other hands. So now have my 2nd & last 20K bullet with the blinds at 300/600 get down to 15K when in small blind I wake up with Kings , sleepy guy limps , the guy who I believe was best player at table raised to 2K and the A8/Quads/Flush Guy flats on the button and I elect to shove with 5500 in pot I'm committed to any raise so it's either shove or flat and given how this table plays thought strong chance of being looked up , the big blind asks what I have my response 'Aces' he eventually folds , as do sleepy and the best player to my nemesis on the button who takes a minutes and calls with A3 of Hearts :loon so I get my wish and just have to fade flop comes QJX 1 heart turn is 9 of Hearts so now he can hit Heart for Flush or still the Ace and yeah the Ace hits the river and a bye bye to my chances of glory. Still sometimes have to speculate to accumulate and this time it didn't pay off. Back to the online felt for now

Re: Rags to Riches , Zero to Hero , Drained to Revitalised Challenge :loon :wall :spank, So it took me a whole 5 days before I tilted off my whole stars roll equivalent of about £45 worth (yes technically I could afford to lose it) but my Poker Roll is diminishing and I don't want do end up playing on my work income without good reason. Yes was differently on the wrong side of variance yesterday both bad beat and more largely cooler situations but I accept it was self inflicted due to playing at the hypers and jumping all the way up to $15 Heads Up , which is just stupidity. I will try to keep the journey going but I do feel disappointed that yet again fall straight into the same pattern when is much more plus EV games for me out there. TILT DAY 1 , lets try not to have any more of these :hope

Re: Rags to Riches , Zero to Hero , Drained to Revitalised Challenge So further on from my earlier post about yesterdays tilt have come up with my first mini challenge , knowing that I only had to play 8x $1.50 Turbo's to unlock my $10 VIP Reward , I decide to deposit $14.64 and play these as 6 max which our probably my best game and have a decent ROI over a good sample including a +ev ROI in the $3.50's. Luckily we got off to a decent start in them 8 games and now have 22BI's to make this mini challenge a bit more feasible. Challenge 1 : $14.64 to $100 6 Max $1.50 Challenge Played 8 : Won 3 , Runner Up 2 , 3rd-6th - 3 Profit $8.99 Plus $10 VIP Reward Unlocked Challenge Bank : $33.63

Re: Rags to Riches , Zero to Hero , Drained to Revitalised Challenge So Challenge 1 will be postponed for the foreseeable but I will still be playing 6 Max Turbo SnG's as my main game for my Staking which Ooblio has kindly taken 100% of , I will continue to update this thread which will include a summary of my staked games as well as the free-roll's and value games from other sites that may be played though not at same same time as staked games which will be my primary focus.

Re: Rags to Riches , Zero to Hero , Drained to Revitalised Challenge 24th May For Stake : $2.20 FL Badugi - 14th of 33 $11 Sunday Storm - 8451st of 32986 , Strange Exit Hand http://www.boomplayer.com/en/poker-hands/Boom/14493200_99F57E80A7 Staking Bank : $87.33 (added on the 80c from yesterday's free-roll for simplicity) Out of Stake: $109 SCOOP-L Main Event - Out 17600ish of 19600+ , AJs > 55 Betfred Weekly FR - Out Early Shoved55 into Kings 888 Money Grab FR - In Middle Stages , 22 > A9 Summary: So yesterday got unlucky in the $1.10 6 Max MTT after making it deep the table mad man who claimed to be under influence of drink got in against my Kings with Ace King and connected with the river which was a bit frustrating as all the money in these is on Final Table and felt confident at my table even when lost the odd pot to slip just below average on a stacked table before losing the pot that would jumped me to 10th. Coming into today I was excited to try my luck in a more prestige tourney than normally privileged to play in thanks to getting lucky in the deposit raffle on Pokerstars unfortunately the tourney didn't go so well and ended in disappointment but an experience none the less. Also played the Sunday Storm for the stake where run out of steam not too far from the bubble in a strange pot but still feel had to win a few more pots to get ITM and after all we are chasing the Final Table not a min-cash right. Might take tomorrow off the see Fireworks display on Merseyside for the 3 Queen Ships tomorrow after finished work , but be back soon.

Re: Rags to Riches , Zero to Hero , Drained to Revitalised Challenge So in the last week have been busy with work so have not been much time to play anything apart from SnG's for the staking BR , which is currently up to $106.68 so about $19 profit since the last update. Staking Bank : $106.68 In other positive news had a nice little return of $116 (£75 according to xe.com guessing by time fee's deducted closer to £70) from zero thanks to the 888 Money Grab Promotion spin game rewarding me a $5 freeplay on roulette which then allowed be to win a max of $5 bonus which got which I then find out has a 30x Wagering Requirement so a hard task but I start small on slots and luckily hit a $12 win early on a 15c spin before upping the stakes to 50c spins luckily hit a few more wins and then let it autoplay 250 times cashing out at my peak , nevertheless a happy return considering I was happy to try get the $5 to spin up on the poker tables :ok:loon

Re: Rags to Riches , Zero to Hero , Drained to Revitalised Challenge No stake games played today but gained a little bit of momentum in that in the last week , particularly in the SnGs but not so hot in the MTTs but with work the next week's game play is likely to be just SnGs.

Staking Bank : $133.22
Elsewhere had a nice bit of a run in a small field MTT yes not a 1000 runners but the win still feels good :ok

27th July Update Have mostly been playing on the Staking challenge playing SnGs as not much time to grind out MTTs as usually working in the evenings the stake in not in as much profit as once was but still $15 up and the key is slow & steady instead of being rash. Staking Bank : $105.53 Away from the staking I went a play a live game in the casino this being my 4th tourney played there since moving to Liverpool and not managed a single cash and yet again out to a slight beat mathematically not as bad as last visit but still when shove AK for 17.5K after 2 limpers for 2K didn't expect to be up against 96hh of a not particularly big stack either , I had started off well Kings holding against Jacks on a 9 high flop but then I tried a few bluffs on the wrong players and opened up too much next time I play I'm just going to nit it up because the tight players still seem to get paid off. But still valuable experience as I think about maybe trying to satellite into maybe a 25/25 or something similar.
