Midfield has lost a leader, as R. Finn (club player of the 2012 season and the club's top scorer in 2013) moved to Dundalk, but were brought worthy replacement in the form of experienced K. Fahey (former representative of Ireland) and G. Brennan (former captain of Drogheda). Considering that the team has scored just 43 goals in 33 matches last year,logically sound that offensive line has been completely renewed. New offensive force led experienced D. North (top scorer last season, Sligo), and also there is a perspective M. Drennan (played for Aston Villa U19 team). In the preparatory period, they have recorded two wins and a draw against the First division sides, as well as win and defeat against foreign clubs (3: 2 Brann; 0:1 LA Galaxy). The Lilywhites were great in 2014, the only unbeaten at home in the league and same time they won the League Cup - a fantastic achievement if we take into consideration that the club finished in 11th place in 2012. It is worth mentioning that this is the only club who play on artificial surface and that them even more favors when they play at Oriel Park. Their coach is without hesitation got a contract extension and he will have mixed emotions at the opening game of the season. The now 43-year-old Stephen Kenny is the youngest coach in the history of domestic football in Ireland because with only 27 years took over the club which tonight will be against its current club. Powell with a defensive midfielder S. Rice's are experienced players who have won the national title with Shamrock in 2011. There is also arrived another experienced defender M. Rossiter who has experience of playing in the strongest league in the island. A. Ben Mohamed's new midfielder who was one of the best players in UCD last year, but it seems that they lack the necessary experience in the midfield. Attack will naturally lead D. O'Sullavan who was top scorer and player of the year in the First division. The second scorer of the team G. Shaw, also member of the First Division team of the year, will assist him. However, the pre-season games don't inspire much confidence in this team. That is why several key players left, and the club was forced to recruit some players from the U19 squad to fill the roster. The first objective was to return to the home stadium the Market's Field after two years of playing at Thomond Park, which is a rugby stadium and has over 25,000 seats. Indeed, it was eerie to play in such a place when you take into account that the average crowd was 1,800 fans to their games. Bohemians is the oldest club on the island, never dropped from the Premier Division, but the club still has not recovered from the financial crisis that has struck them a few years ago. The Gypsies have suffered perhaps the biggest changes compared to last season from all the clubs in the league. Legend of Bohs O. It is certainly a big blow for them, but they managed to bring the coach who had almost did a small miracle last autumn. Keith Long came in Athlone on half of the season, and almost managed to secure the survival for them, which is still been enough for the third most successful team in the country to call him. He brought along five players (D. Prendergast, D. Mahon, D. Hayes, J. O'Brien and K. Dillon) from his former club at Dalymount Park. Defense will again be led by D. Pender, who is also the new captain of the team, experienced defender A. Price moved to Limerick. Two regular midfielders (E. Wearen and K. Devaney) are left with a coach in Sligo, but the good news for them is that experienced D. Mulcahy returned to the club. It is true, he is the youngest and most inexperienced coach in the league, the only one who is under 40 years. Interestingly, Bohemians legend will be only the second domestic coach in Sligo in the last 22 years. Several important players have gone including G. Rogers (best goalie in the league in 2011 and 2012), E. McMillan (key Centre Back), right-back S. Connelly, versatile midfielder P. O'Conor (was the second best scorer) and D. North (top scorer). Indeed it seems that the team is weakened especially by the departure of first and last player. However, it should be said that the coach has brought with him some players when he came from the north of Dublin. So among the four new players who have arrived from Bohemians are: E. Wearen (talented midfielder who played for West Ham U19) and D. Corcaran (club top scorer last season). Promising centre back S. Folan arrived from Limerick where he was a key defender in the last two years. There are also two offensive players who came as free agents: S. Puri who has 56 appearances for the national team of Estonia and M. Nielsen, who played for Chelsea U19. The team immediately changed the style of play and it brought great results in pre-seasonal games. Although opponents were weaker teams, excellent effect was achieved in six friendly matches, all six wins with a fascinating goal difference 33:3. Particularly good news is that new players have scored most of the goals. The Bit o'Red will be without E. Wearen due to suspension, and defender J. Henderson who will be out for several months due to injury. They haven't lost on the opening day of the season since 2008. Cork City is the most southern club on the island and it is known that their U19 team is the best in the country in the last three years, and that they have the best support of fans in the Premier Division. They were the most pleasant surprise last year when they needed only a draw in the last round to win the title. Yet it was the perfect debut season for coach John Caulfield who is club legend (holds the record for most appearances and scored goals in Cork where he played even 16 years). The Rebel Army will have the most experienced team this year and this could be their great advantage, and the fact that only one important player is gone, the talented midfielder G. Morrisey in Cambridge. On the other hand, some really good players are arrived at Turner's Cross. Ex Irish internationals L. Miller and A. Bennett had returned to the club, midfielder G. Holohan (was the player of the year in Drogheda in 2014) and striker K. Sheppard from Shamrock Rovers. So it seems that the team is even stronger compared to the previous season. Potentially five players in Cork City's starting line up in 2015 won the Premier Division title ten seasons ago, this year. The Leesiders have played as many as nine pre-season matches where achieved an average performance of 4-3-2 (18-10). They have not won in their last six away games at the Showgrounds, and not scored a goal in their last four. Forward J. O'Flynn is injured, but the more important news that last year's top scorer B. Dennehy is suspended. Cork City have not won on the opening day of the Premier League season since 2005.

They arrive claiming to be looking for the win , but will probably need to score a couple of goals at least to do so, maybe to even claim a point, given that they are poor defensively and remain without goalkeeper Richard Brush who had only recently forced his way back into the team, center back Jeff Henderson ( 40% win record when he plays, 27% in his absence , over the last two seasons) and midfielder John Russell ( conceded two or more in 6 of the last 9 he has sat out). Hosts have an almost full squad to pick from and will be looking to celebrate head coach Stephen Kenney's 100th game in charge with a win, they have scored six in the last two home games against Rovers, but in truth, I do not think the gap between these two is quite as big as their respective starts to the campaign suggest. I definitely expect to see goals and the last 20 h2h meetings have averaged 2.75 goals, last three Sigo games have all produced two or more first half goals . New visiting boss Owen Heary has a decent squad at his disposal and his team has played better than results suggest, they have been very offensive minded, especially in their sole away start, a 3-2 defeat at Drogheda which they could have won 5-2, were in not for the home keeper putting in a MOTM dispaly and I see this as a potential upset, However, I will suggest 1.25 units "over" 1 goals first half betting 2.02 asian line /Sportmarket and/or 1.25 units "over" 2.5 goals 2.11 asian line/Sportmarket.

Re: Ireland > Airtricity Premier League > 2015 I was close to taking Cork City giving up the big handicap against Longford Town who might not be favoured by the quick turnaround, they have tired quite badly in their last two starts after the break and have lost all three road games (league and cup) against the better (top 4) teams, the last two by two goals and the newly promoted club are playing their 5th match of April today and still coming to terms with this level of competition. The hosts were runner up to Dundalk last season , the pair clear of the pack and they are already 1 and 2 again, City host the leaders this coming Friday and will want maximum points ahead of that game, they are 3-0-0 at home this season with a 10-0 goal difference and are 6-0 in those games through the first half, so, strong starters against a team who might tire after the break . The only problem was that the visitors have refused to give out any team news and the hosts have a couple of important players who picked up knocks on Friday and who will be subject to last minute decisions. Therefore, I cannot put this up as a red type selection (official bet), but if you really must have an interest, I would suggest 1.25 units Cork City -1.25 ball 2.08 asian line/Sportmarket.

Dundalk 13 2 1 (38:6) The title defence couldn’t have gone any better for the Lilywhites. Midfielders R. Towell and D. Horgan (the best performers of the league so far) led the best team in Ireland in recent years, imo. They have only one artificial pitch in the league and they know how to take advantage of it, hopefully also in the European contest. Their only small flaw is the lack of another quality striker, but even so they are definitely the biggest contender for the title.

John Caulfield has at his disposal the best players in the league on paper, a combination of young talents (J. Not even their most optimistic fans couldn't imagine such a good performance of the club so far. D. Delany probably showed the highest quality of all goalkeeper in the league so far, L. Fitzgerald is one of the best deliverers from set pieces in the league and the rest of the team is harmoniously composed of young (A. Evans, D. Kelly, R. Lopes) and experienced (A. Murphy, D. Prendergast) players - without the need for the new changes.

Longford Town 5 4 7 (16:19) Last year's champion of the First Division have completed half of the season in the top half of the table which is certainly a success for the club from a small town with only 10 thousand inhabitants. This happened mostly thanks to a very experienced defensive line - P. Flynn, C. Powell, S. Rice and P. Sullivan who all played European matches wearing the jersey of Shamrock Rovers in the past. Captain M. Salmon and talented youngster A.B. Mohamed were key midfielders, still need to improve in attack.

Galway United 6 0 10 (21:29) The president's club made a great comeback to the elite so far, in their matches have over three goals in average and the Tribesman are the only club that hasn't yet played a draw. They have young strikers in good shape (E. Curran, J. Keegan, P. Cunningham), a solid midfield (D. O'Leary, R. Connolly, G. Shanahan), but defense is definitely a big wound for this team. Only S. Walshe was played at required level, others have to significantly improve performance, but also the club should bring the goalkeeper who will be a regular in goal.

Captain M. Daly and A. Byrne were key players in the defense, S. Thonton and L. Duffy were the best in their midfield, but but the attack was their weakness. Only D. Kavanagh singled out by playing well, but even he left the team a few days ago. So it's clear that absence of good attackers is their biggest concern for the rest of the season.

Timlin, B. McNamee) were are holders of the team, but it wasn't enough for better performance. The biggest concern is the lack of quality strikers especially after the departure of experienced A. Elding recently.

Before the start of the season they are rated among the teams that will fight for a place in European competition, but the reality is that they have two wins from 16 matches. Probably the only one worth mentioning is the club's top scorer D. Corcoran, and it's certain that big changes are necessary there.

The best individuals are young goalkeeper S. McGuinness and captain D. Cassidy, but they need to improve both the defense and the attack looking at stats in the first half of the season.

The team urgently need a few new faces in defense and attack in order to have any chance of survival in the league. Drogheda vs Dundalk is the Louth derby and will be on TV. Guests are hot favorites, though they haven't won at Hunky Dorys Park in the last three matches. Anything is possible in this local derby, but your local odds are very attractive and I would definitely take $1.52 for Dundalk win (since the average odds online is around $1.25).

Drogheda United host Dundalk in the Louth derby this evening at United Park. This game is being televised on Setanta Sports and should be a very interesting derby. Drogheda come into this game having taken 10 points in their last 4 league games. Johnny McDonnell and his backroom staff have really got the confidence flying in the dressing room and the performances and results are showing now. A fortunate and late 1-0 away victory over Bohemians will give the Drogs confidence coming into tonight's game, and they'll be eager to upset their rivals. Also, they'll believe they can put a dent in Dundalk's hopes for Europe and maybe even catch them off guard, as Dundalk may be distracted by their European game next week. Dundalk are still first in the league, and still the best team in the country. Their defeat to Bohs only a few weeks ago ended their unbeaten run that stretched back to August last season, and last week's trashing of Limerick 6-2 certainly helped forget about it too. However, just around the corner now for Stephen Kenny's men is the big Champions League qualifier against BATE Borisov, and that's perhaps the biggest aim for Dundalk right now. Before that though, they have an important derby match to overcome and they also know that they can extend their lead at the top of the Premier Division as all their rivals are busy with European matches of their own. They come into tonight's game full of confidence and quality. I think this is a game that doesn't allow for the usual to take place. Derby games always throw up surprises and Drogheda already showed at the beginning of the season that they will not let Dundalk walk all over them. Of course it's clear that Dundalk are by far the best team in this league, but Drogheda United are in good form and will really want to beat their rivals who are performing so well. In normal circumstances, I'd expect Dundalk to beat a team of Drogheda's calibre by two clear goals, but this is a derby game and therefore there's definitely value on the home team. I like what Johnny McDonnell and his backroom team are doing at Drogheda United. They've built a good solid team and they will give Dundalk are stern test this evening. Bray -v- Derry City Bray Wanderers host Derry City this evening at the Carlisle Grounds in a game that sees 9th host 10th. It's a real lower league fixture, as both teams will be hoping to move further away from the relegation dogfight. Bray Wanderers have emerged once again from mysterious and ridiculous circumstances and appointed Mick Cooke as manager. It's a good solid appointment for Bray, as Mick Cooke is a very experienced manager in the League of Ireland, and it should ensure there will be no more turmoil for the rest of this season at Bray. Derry City have had a very poor season, and lots of fans are losing faith in Peter Hutton as manager. However, it would seem that there's bigger problems behind the scenes at the club and that's where the fans are more unhappy. During the transfer window, Peter Hutton has been able to bring in Mark Quigley to bolster Derry's attacking line-up and his capture may give Derry the sort of lift they need. However, it's been two weeks since they played Cork and so Derry should be a bit out of sorts having only played 2 competitive games in the last month. Bray are without goalkeeper Stephen McGuinness for today's game, but having signed Peter Cherrie last weekend, they have a welcome replacement. He'll definitely start in goal today. Neither team has the sort of form or quality to rise above the other, and both teams are simply mediocre.
