Re: BDO World Trophy 2015 Some brief thoughts before this gets underway. 1pt ew T.O'Shea to win BDO World Trophy 25/1 BetVictor (1/2 1-2) Tony O'Shea was a bit unlucky at Lakeside and you have to think the way Mitchell went on to win the tournament had O'Shea prevailed in that deciding leg of their first round match he could well have had another massive tilt at the title. Losing to Mitchell there was no disgrace though, everyone else lost to him! so we shouldn't necessarily write him off just yet. He is in a section of the draw this week which could open right up and with all the experience he has on the big stage the 25/1 on him going all the way this week has to be big. 0.5pts ew M.McGeeney to win BDO World Trophy 40/1 BetVictor (1/2 1-2) I always like a speculative punt in these BDO tournaments because they rarely go to the seedings and McGeeney is one who could be worth a bet in an open looking quarter were something to happen to Glen Durrant early on. McGeeney took James Wilson to the cleaners with a 106+ average at the World Masters a few months ago and that is good form by anyone's standards. I don't expect him to repeat that throughout this tournament but it is nice to know he has it in his locker. Eventually McGeeney lost to the champion Martin Phillips in that tournament in the quarter final but Durrant aside there isn't a whole lot in his way here until the semi-final so he's worthy of a small interest this week. One for the womens too. 2pts ew F.Sherrock to win BDO World Trophy 6/1 Bet365 (1/2 1-2) Fallon Sherrock confirmed that she will be the next big star of the women's game with her run to the final at Lakeside and but for a crucial double here or there she might have beaten Ashton in the final. Sherrock's scoring power makes her a standout player in the ladies game these days and we saw at Lakeside that by and large she takes out the crucial doubles. In a much shorter format here if she keeps clicking out her doubles she is going to be very tough to beat and it may be that this time if she faces Ashton in the final the youngster will get her revenge.

Re: BDO World Trophy 2015 Couple of match bets tonight too. 3pts R.Hofstra to beat G.de Vos 13/8 Betway We never saw the best of Rick Hofstra in the World Championship but we know he is better than that. Geert de Vos showed more at Lakeside but the one thing we saw from him was the ability to miss a load of doubles and in a best of 11 leg match if he does that here he could be in a spot of bother, especially against someone as solid and consistent as Hofstra can be. I'm not sure I expect a classic but the more solid Hofstra looks a touch of value given his better ability on the doubles. 3pts S.Hewson to beat T.Hankey 7/4 Boylesports This is a much bigger game for The Count than it is for Hewson. Hankey hasn't been on TV for a while and he hasn't been in the big events very often either so he will be under plenty of pressure to deliver here. Sam Hewson is near enough freerolling from the start this weekend because he wasn't even in the field until Scott Waites pulled out through injury. We saw in the World Championship when he took Waites all the way in the first round that he is no respector of reputation and if he can get off to a solid start here and play with the confidence he did at Lakeside this could very well be his for the taking against a potentially nervy Hankey.

Re: BDO World Trophy 2015 One catches my eye this afternoon. 4pts W.Harms to beat G.de Vos 5/6 Paddy Power This looks like a fairly attractive price on the Dutchman here. He is much more solid of the two and a better player too. He's also more used to being in the latter stages of big tournaments as well so Harms has plenty going for him here. He has shown he can deliver under pressure this week already having been 6-4 down to a surging Darryl Fitton in the last round and the last three legs he played in that match were top notch. De Vos is here on merit you'd have to say that but Hofstra missed so many doubles against him in the first round and Widmayer needn't have bothered showing up on Saturday such is how poor he was so while the Belgian has got this far he'd have struggled not to make it here. Harms has won the three previous meetings between these two which doesn't surprise me and I expect him to win again here.
