Just browsing through the draw. Top half of the draw: Murphy, Ronnie, Robertson, Trump, Allen Bottom Half: Selby, Ding That top half is ridiculous compared to the bottom half. Ding is out of form so the draw suggests an e/w bet on Selby @ 7/1. He is the form player so 3.5/1 for a final berth seems fair value.

Re: Welsh Open Feb 16~22 Tournament preview: 1pt ew S.Maguire to win Welsh Open 22/1 Betway (1/2 1-2) With the first four rounds of this tournament best of seven frames and the first two rounds played in the same day there is a bit of a PTC feel to the early part of this event and one man who has had good success in those sort of events this year is Stephen Maguire and I fancy him to go well here. You need an aggressive game in that format and he has that and as a champion and runner up here in the last four years this is a tournament which clearly works well for the Scot. He was a semi-finalist in Germany so he’s in good touch and at 22/1 is worthy of outright support this week. Re: Welsh Open Feb 16~22 Monday first round TV previews: 4pts M.Williams (-1.5 frames) to beat L.Haotian 8/11 Spreadex I fancy Williams to have a fairly decent week this week. He isn’t a player who fears playing in front of his home crowd and if anything plays better here. Haotian can beat some of the lesser players in the game but this is a step up in class as shown by the two comfortable wins Williams has in their two meetings. I expect this to be another one and fancy the Welshman to come through with something to spare. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/williams-vs-haotian-betting-mark-williams-can-have-too-much-for-chinese-youngster 3pts M.Allen to win 4-0 12/5 William Hill Mark Allen will win this match, the question is how easily will he win it and I think the answer to that will be pretty easily. The two have never met but the Ulsterman has plenty in his favour it has to be said. Ursenbacher has been beaten 4-0 by Selby and 4-1 by Maguire this season and with another match to come later in the day Allen will want to get this done as quickly as possible. 4-0 has every chance. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/allen-vs-ursenbacher-betting-mark-allen-can-fly-into-the-second-round 3pts R.O'Sullivan to win 4-0 2/1 Bet365 O’Sullivan has taken far better players than Calabrese to the cleaners this season so we should expect a comfortable win for the defending champion here. Part of the reason why Calabrese hasn’t won many matches this season is he hasn’t scored very well and if he doesn’t score well here he isn’t going to get anywhere because you can’t give O’Sullivan too many chances and expect to come away with a win. With another game to play in the evening O’Sullivan will want this over as soon as possible. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/o-sullivan-vs-calabrese-betting-ronnie-can-cruise-into-the-second-round-in-cardiff 3pts M.Stevens (-1.5 frames) to beat O.Lines 11/10 Bet365 Matthew Stevens is a seasoned campaigner and while he probably isn’t playing the best snooker of his career right now he is playing a bit better than his overall results suggest. Lines has just gone off the boil in recent times and that will give Stevens a bit more belief here. Stevens has a good all round game and if he can just find his scoring power for a couple of frames he should be too good in this one. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/stevens-vs-o-lines-betting-stevens-can-treat-the-cardiff-crowd-to-a-home-win 4pts J.Trump (-2.5 frames) to beat J.Wattana 8/11 Spreadex Even at his best Wattana would be hard pushed to beat Trump but with a lack of action and absolutely no form to speak of this is going to be an even harder task for the Thaiphoon. Trump looks in wonderful touch at the minute and is scoring heavier than anyone and ultimately that is the game these days so I fully expect him to come through here without too many troubles. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/trump-vs-wattana-betting-judd-trump-can-ease-past-thai-legend 3pts J.Cahill (+2.5 frames) to beat N.Robertson 4/5 Bet365 You would expect Robertson to come through this match but he really does have a habit of making hard work of these early matches. His all round game should be too good for Cahill but Cahill has little to lose in this match which makes him dangerous and while I think he will be beaten I do think he can win a couple of frames and maintain respectability here. Re: Welsh Open Feb 16~22 Tuesday opening TV previews: 4pts R.Day (-1.5 frames) to beat N.Saengkham 4/6 Skybet Some Welshmen struggle in this tournament with the burden of expectation but Ryan Day isn’t one of them and with the form he has found over the last month I think he can come through here without too many troubles. Saengkham is capable when playing well but his confidence will have been hit by his two defeats over the weekend and Day looks to be in the form to capitalise on that and move into the next round. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/day-vs-saengkham-betting-ryan-day-can-delight-the-home-crowd-on-tuesday 4pts S.Maguire (-2.5 frames) to beat D.Jones 8/11 Bet365 It is hard to see anything other than a comfortable Stephen Maguire win here. Jones isn’t at his level and he is playing under these conditions for the first time and it can be a little daunting. Maguire is very professional these days and while he still plays an aggressive game he knows when to bail out and make it hard for his opponents so Jones isn’t going to get gifted chances. I don’t see him creating enough chances by himself to win two frames so it is Maguire to cover the cap for me. Re: Welsh Open Feb 16~22 It lost. With handicaps just take off the start from the score (so in Judd's case his 4 becomes 1.5) to find the winner. In that case he lost 1.5-2 :(. Remaining Tuesday TV previews: 4pts M.Selby (-2.5 frames) to beat A.Davies 5/6 Bet365 Davies has nothing to lose and can give this his all but we’ve seen throughout the first round so far the dominance the established players have had over the new brigade and I expect that to continue here. Selby comes into this tournament in good form and with the battle for the number one spot as tight as it is he has all the motivation he needs for another big week. That week can start with a comfortable opening win. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/selby-vs-a-davies-betting-world-champion-can-cruise-through-the-first-round 4pts D.Junhui (-2.5 frames) to beat L.Walker 3/4 Betfair Although Ding hasn’t been brilliant this season I don’t see him having any problems here and this could just be the match which kick starts his campaign. Walker is unlikely to win many frames in one visit and even if Ding isn’t playing well you rarely get more than one chance a frame against him and if he gets more than one he wins more frames than he loses. He should win this comfortably. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/ding-vs-walker-betting-former-champion-should-ease-into-the-second-round

Re: Welsh Open Feb 16~22 Wednesday TV previews: 4pts M.Stevens (+2.5 frames) to beat R.O'Sullivan 8/11 Bet365 O’Sullivan has a dominant record over Stevens but he has that over most players so we shouldn’t read too much into that. This is a match where Stevens has nothing to lose in so if he can find his scoring boots there should be chances here for him. O’Sullivan hasn’t been on top form for a while now and even matches he has won his opponents have had plenty of chances. Stevens should be good for a couple of frames here at least. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/o-sullivan-vs-stevens-betting-matthew-stevens-can-bag-a-couple-of-frames-on-the-main-table 4pts J.Cope (+2.5 frames) to beat N.Robertson 5/6 Betfred Generally when these two have met they have played out tight matches and that has been the case even while Cope hasn’t been in good form so now that he is improving again logic would say he has every chance in this match. He has always been a scorer which could serve him well in this match because you would think he’ll get a couple of chances. That said Robertson looks in great touch so he should still come through. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/cope-vs-robertson-betting-jamie-cope-can-stay-close-to-robertson-again 3pts J.Jones to beat M.Williams 15/8 Coral On what we’ve seen so far in the tournament Jamie Jones looks a great price here. Williams has only had one break over 50 in the event so far so Jones is going to get his chances based on that. We know he can bounce back in matches because Murphy had two centuries against him but Jones still came through. If Williams coughs up the sort of chances he gave out on Monday this is Jones’ match to lose. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/jones-vs-williams-betting-jamie-jones-can-see-off-welsh-hero-in-cardiff 4pts M.Wasley (+2.5 frames) to beat J.Trump 5/6 Betfair These two have met once in the past and Wasley won on that occasion so he clearly doesn’t fear Trump and a lot of the time that is part of the battle. Trump is expected to win this and win it well but Wasley shouldn’t be fazed. He has a win over Joe Perry on his CV this season as well as Trump so he can clearly play. The tighter it gets the more you’d favour Trump but Wasley can push him close. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/wasley-vs-trump-betting-judd-trump-may-be-made-to-work-hard-in-last-32

Re: Welsh Open Feb 16~22 Thursday TV previews: 4pts L.Brecel (+2.5 frames) to beat M.Selby 4/5 Paddy Power This looks a good match to open the day with and I think it can be a little closer than it looks on paper. Brecel is clearly playing some good stuff to have seen off his three victims, victims which includes Robert Milkins, for the loss of just one frame. Selby will battle we know that but Brecel has the scoring power to make this tight if he can get in early in a frame. I fancy Brecel for a couple of frames here. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/brecel-vs-selby-betting-luca-brecel-can-be-competitive-against-the-world-champion 4pts J.Trump (-1.5 frames) to beat M.Williams 4/5 Paddy Power I think Judd Trump will have too much here. He hasn’t been totally convincing in this tournament but I think the stronger opponent will focus his mind a lot more and if that is the case his scoring power and much improved safety can be too much. Williams has looked good at times in this tournament and poor at others and it is that inconsistency which could cost him here. I fancy Trump to come through with a bit to spare. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/williams-vs-trump-betting-judd-trump-can-end-williams-home-title-hopes 3pts M.Stevens to beat M.Fu 13/8 Betway If the euphoria and attention that comes with beating O’Sullivan doesn’t get the better of Matthew Stevens I think he has every chance in this match. He has a good record over Marco Fu and that doesn’t surprise me because he has an excellent all round game. He has been playing quite well this week and I get the feeling there is more to come from him. Fu is a worthy favourite but there could just be some value in Stevens here. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/stevens-vs-fu-betting-matthew-stevens-good-value-to-thrill-the-welsh-crowds-again 3pts G.Wilson (+2.5 frames) to beat N.Robertson 6/5 William Hill I think Robertson will win this match but Wilson has knocked in a few frame winning breaks this week so if he gets given the chances he is likely to take a couple of them so this may not be the one way traffic the Australian would like it to be. Wilson is a competent player who is clearly in good form having got this far and I think his scoring can get him to two frames here. Re: Welsh Open Feb 16~22 Friday TV QF previews: 4pts S.Maguire to beat J.Higgins 8/11 Paddy Power Maguire’s record over Higgins has gone on for a while now so it can’t be a fluke. He clearly raises his game against his fellow Scot and as such I think he has to be taken to win this match. He is more experienced in the latter stages of tournaments in recent times and is playing some good stuff at the minute. Higgins may feel he has got what he wanted out of the week with his World Championship spot looking much more secure so it is Maguire for me here. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/higgins-vs-maguire-betting-stephen-maguire-can-continue-his-dominance-over-higgins 4pts M.Fu to beat M.Williams 4/5 BetVictor I’m amazed Williams has made it this far but unless he dramatically ups his scoring I’m convinced this is where his run ends. Fu is scoring well and that is always a sign of how well he is playing and how much he fancies the job. Williams will do enough at long range to remain competitive but when the chances come it is Fu who looks like maximising them the most so he’s the call here. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/fu-vs-williams-betting-marco-fu-can-seal-semi-final-spot-in-cardiff 3pts L.Brecel to beat R.Walden 21/10 Boylesports If Brecel continues to score as he has done in this tournament he will have every chance in this match. Walden hasn’t been fluent this week and hasn’t won many matches in one visit so if Brecel can score well and make the most of the chances that come his way he can win this match. If Walden doesn’t start winning frames in one visit then Brecel will grow in confidence and the Belgian is a touch of value here. Re: Welsh Open Feb 16~22 Semi final previews: 4pts J.Higgins (-1.5 frames) to beat L.Brecel 8/11 Ladbrokes Brecel has done brilliantly to get this far but I fancy Higgins’ experience will see him through here. Higgins has actually been playing much better than his results had suggested for a couple of months now and finally he has got the result his play has deserved. He has come through enough of the tournament to do his World Championship qualification hopes the world of good. Brecel hasn’t played in many big semi-finals in the past and this could just be a step too far for him. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/higgins-vs-brecel-betting-higgins-experience-can-see-him-into-the-final 4pts M.Williams vs B.Woollaston - Over 9.5 frames 11/10 BetVictor Both men have come through the draw nicely and look in good form so I’m expecting a good, high qualify semi-final here. Both men have achieved their goal of enhancing their ranking position to get into certain tournaments this week so now it is all about winning the title. One visit frames have been a feature of their recent matches and with that in mind I’m expecting this one to have more than 9.5 frames. Re: Welsh Open Feb 16~22 Final preview: 4pts J.Higgins (-1.5 frames) to beat B.Woollaston 3/4 Coral It would be only natural if Ben Woollaston has a few nerves going into this final. It might be that Higgins has a few nerves too having not been in a final for a while but he has plenty of experience to counteract that and in the end that is what I see as the difference in this final. Woollaston should give a good account of himself but Higgins can be just that bit too good.
