Re: Pre-Season - January 11

what about peter Gojowczyk to win? Falla somethimes explode on hard court but rarely
Falla hasn't won since July, so he's in horrible form. Gojowczyk had a good season last year and is improving, so I reckon it'd be hard to see past him. Falla can be dangerous as he's a good player, but in poor shape right now.

Re: Pre-Season - January 11 Back Daniela Hantuchova to beat Urszula Radwanska for a 7/10 stake at 2.05 with Pinnacle Both have some momentum going into this, but I'd still rate Hantuchova slightly above Radwanska in terms of quality. The adjustments she's made during the off-season seem to be working well and she had no problems against Errani in the previous round, so she looks worth backing tomorrow at this price. Re: Pre-Season - January 11 Back Barbora Zahlavova-Strycova to beat Marina Erakovic for a 7/10 stake at 1.70 with BetVictor It's hard for me to see past the Czech in this one. She's made a lot of progress in the last season and it seems to me that all those breakdowns are already a thing of the past, so I expect her to be way too strong for Erakovic in the second round. Re: Pre-Season - January 11 Back Jeremy Chardy (+1.5 sets) to beat Grigor Dimitrov for a 7/10 stake at 1.88 with Pinnacle Considering that this will be Dimitrov's first match in the new season, I really fancy Jeremy Chardy on the set handicap. After all, the Frenchman is a pretty strong player in his own right and he also has a good record against Dimitrov, so this really doesn't look like an easy task for the world's number eleven. Re: Pre-Season - January 11 Sloane Stephens to beat Lauren Davis (Auckland WTA) @1.28 Vera Zvonareva to beat Cagla Buyukakcay (Shenzen WTA)@1.4 Double, @1.79, bet365, 6/10 Sloane did not finish her capmpaign last year very well, but usually she is doing OK in australia or before the AUSOPEN. SHe appeared yesterday in top form, hitting through her shots, resulted in many winners against Solar-Espinoza, who had abs no chance. Davis had a very tough first round nearly exiting but made a tremendous comeback agasint Rogers. I think Sloane will take this in 2 sets, despite their 2 3 set long h2h record. Zvonareva making her comeback and playing a so-so Buyukakcay. I had the opportunity to watch Buyukakcay in Ankara 2 weeks ago and she was very flat, no fire and really nothing special in her game. She might be moire up for this challenge, playing Zvonareva , ex #2. but I think Vera proved to be on a good way for anice comback after beating Shuai Peng last round. She might not win this tournament, but she will beat Buyukakcay here imho. GL

Re: Pre-Season - January 11 5pts (Under 19.5 games) A.Ivanovic Vs Gajdosova 4/5 PaddyPower I just did a write-up of this and wasn't logged in, so I lost it. Basically Ana will want some good Aussie practice here and should win 2-0 without too much hassle. The worst I see this being is 6-4 6-3 to Ana.

Re: Pre-Season - January 11 2pts G.Muller to beat E.Ymer 2-1 2/1 Bet365 Ymer done very well before and I see him causing Muller a few problems and possibly snatching the first set here but I see Muller coming through with his bigger serve and so I'll take a little punt on the 2-1 scoreline.

Re: Pre-Season - January 11 3pts J.Vesely to beat H-Maurer 2-0 6/5 PaddyPower Going for another 2-0 win for Vesely. He beat Maurer 2-0 just last year on this surface. He is the better player on the hard courts and played well against the qualifier in the previous round.

Re: Pre-Season - January 11 3pts S.Wawrinka to beat Coric 2-0 11/10 PaddyPower There was big value on Coric to win this on opening at 3/1 but now he is a skinny 2/1 to beat someone as good as Wawrinka I'll go the other way and take the >evens on him winning it 2-0. No doubt the first set will be a close one but I think he can see it through. Coric is definitely one to look out for though.

Re: Pre-Season - January 11 An up and down day really so far. Last bet on the tennis for today is another punt really. Simone Bolelli is on his favourite surface for the match against Gasquet. They have played four times and Gasquet has won them all but the last couple Bolelli has won a set. Gasquet beat Andujar in straight sets but Andujar is more of a clay courter. Bolelli beat Becker in straight sets who is a big serving hard court specialist so I think Bolelli certainly has it in him to grab a set here. I'll play it safe and go for 2pts R.Gasquet to beat S.Bolelli 2-1 10/3 Ladbrokes

Re: Pre-Season - January 11 I am really not a tennis guy,but i watch Grigor Dimitrov from time to time and i have some impressions of him.He won 2:1 today but was far from impressive. He needed 3 sets to beat Chardy in a game he could have easily lost.He is a slow starter and today he showed that.I heard an interview where he said that this time he really wants to win in Brisbane where he played his 1st final 2 years ago.Klizan beat consecutively Meizer and after that Dolgopolov in a game where i think nobody has expected him to,so he should be really up for tomorrow. He has nothing to lose against the World Number 11th so i think he could give it a go.Grigor showed some confidence today and i think he won't make a mistake even though this game might not be a walk in the park for him.Grigor to win 2-1 @ 3.75 with bet365. 6:3 , 6:4

Re: Pre-Season - January 11 Back Elina Svitolina to beat Angelique Kerber for a 6/10 stake at 3.00 with Bet365 Svitolina beat Kerber last time out and she's started the new season with two very comfortable victories, so I'm happy to back her tomorrow at this price. There really doesn't seem to be a massive gap between the two quality-wise. Re: Pre-Season - January 11 Back Urszula Radwanska to beat Lauren Davis for a 7/10 stake at 1.94 with Pinnacle Radwanska is the in-form player in Auckland and I'd actually have her as the favorite against Davis, who was quite lucky to get those two comebacks in a row in my opinion. Re: Pre-Season - January 11 Back Coco Vandeweghe to beat Barbora Zahlavova-Strycova for a 7/10 stake at 2.21 with Pinnacle This one is more about feeling than anything, but I think that Vandeweghe will be a fairly problematic match-up for Zahlavova-Strycova with her big serve and uncompromising hitting. Re: Pre-Season - January 11 Alright I'll help you guys with the winners. :ok Lauren Davis to beat U, Radwanska @2.00 with 5Dimes - 5pts Tennis is about match-ups. That's all. Radwanska is being severely over-rated here and the reason is is because she just beat a relatively high calibre and well established player in Daniela Hanuchova. However the reason she beat her, was not because she (Radwanska) is anything special, but because her style proves an annoyance for a player with the style of Daniela's. You see Daniela is a ball-striker and she doesn't have the ability to move or do much of anything else. Radwanska being a ball-absorbing counter-puncher (Like her older sister, who is better it) USES the power her opponent gives to her to produce her shots. :) So the aggressive ball-striking of Daniela's was something U, Rad was enjoying and Daniela in the end couldn't find enough on the day to hit through her. Radwanska was slicing and dicing, playing cat and crafty mouse, causing the langly, rather immobile Daniela to be placed in awkward positions, struggling to get down to low balls and all different changes of pace. Now Radwanska meets a player in Lauren Davis who is much likened to herself in a way, she is a ball absorbing counter-puncher. The only major difference between herself and Lauren Davis is Davis packs a good punch with her backhand off the ground and takes the initiative in/on attack when she can. Davis has a really good low center of gravity which she uses to her advantage. She is small and has compact groundies, being small and having compact groundies means she can deal with all the junk Radwanska will throw at her. All the low balls and changes of pace. Lauren Davis won't be giving Radwanska the pace she depends on. The only area of the match-up which Radwanska wins is the serve and return of serve match-up. This is because Lauren Davis has a largely pathetic toddler's serve. Lastly Lauren Davis is incredibly tough mentally. I understand Czech_Punter, you are frustrated at Daniela losing to her, but you need to not allow it to blinker you. For the large part Daniela flattered her. Daniela has virtually non-existent in defence, she can't defend, pretty much period. So when U, Rad absorbed her power and countered her shots, she (Daniela) was left struggling and thrown immediately onto the backfoot. Davis won't face the same problem. Daniela is a largely one dimensional player, if she's not hot enough in attack, then any counter-punching hack like Radwanska can pick her off quite effortlessly. I feel you aren't looking at this one with a balanced view. I wish you all the best with the bet though

Re: Pre-Season - January 11 Garcia Lopez to beat Tatsumi Ito (-2.5 games handicap) @1.82 with Pinnacle - 5 pts Ito is an aggressive and occasionally counter-punching baseliner and just like most oriental players on the tour is VERY technically proficient. However that is where it ends. His weapon is his forehand and it's not a big enough forehand to really hurt Garcia Lopez in any way at all. Garcia Lopez is a very well rounded balanced player, that has potent weapons off BOTH the wings of his forehand and backhand, but can also neutralise attack thrown at him from the back of the court. He has faster racquet-head-speed than Ito and will find it fairly to absorb most of what Ito throws at him with his serve and forehand. He will open up the angles of the court, usually as most Spaniards do and drag Ito out of position, leaving him with easy open space to hit into. He's a top 30 player IMO GGL and a fabulous point constructor. He finished the season off in high fine fashion and still has some of that swing off momentum coming into this one. I really cannot see any other winner. This should be quite comprehensive. Donskoy had the serve and forehand to push GGL, Ito doesn't and he won't be out-witting and out-moving him from the back of the court. Comprehensive and the handicap should clear in clean fashion.

Re: Pre-Season - January 11 2.5pts Hsun-Lu to beat Carreno-Busta 2-0 6/5 Skybet Similarly ranked players yet one is a clay courter and one is a hard courter. I like the way Lu plays and despite Busta recently beating Lopez on the hard court I think that may of been just a mare of a performance from Lopez. Lu to win in straight sets for me.

Re: Pre-Season - January 11 Ivan Dodig to beat Andreas Seppi @2.08 with Pinnacle - 5pts Ivan is a player that is not be messed with when he is on song and focused. The court's in Doha suit him as they are gritty and will take to his kick serves nicely, he'll be able to use his kick to drag Andreas out of the court and leave the open space for a simple volley winner. His serve and volley tennis works beautifully on this type of court IMO. Seppi has the game to counter-punch this Dodig style, but not with regularity over the duration of a match IMO. Matchup wise, I'm favouring Ivan. He has the better decision making under pressure, on the big points in the big moments and is composed at the net. He will smother Andreas. Andreas will need to keep his first serve percentage at a high. Should be a tight tussle, but in the Ivan to eventually make it through for me.

Re: Pre-Season - January 11 Risky that one fader, I give the probability of Carreno taking a set 50/50 there so the odds would be about right. Whilst you're right and that Carreno is currently limited to claycourts he is working to improve and make a somewhat transition. Got to remember, Lu is a counter-puncher, technically sound and mops up short balls nice and well. He's a point constructor and moves players around in order to open up space. I agree he should get the better of Carreno Busta, but he (Lu) does tend to have his dips in matches. Ontop of this we've got to remember the serve and return of serve match-up is marginally in favour of Carreno, as he has the better second serve. Lu's second serve is very attackable and it will allow Busta the opportunity to gain a 'front-foot' edge in the point. I agree Lu will win, but in straight sets? Really a coin flip that in my view. Busta is incredibly tough, mentally. I wouldn't categorise him as being completely limited to claycourts. He has a big first serve and a big forehand. He beat Andreas Beck at the US Open, we've got to remember.

Re: Pre-Season - January 11 3pts T.Berdych to beat R.Gasquet 2-0 11/10 Betway Berdych beat Gasquet only last year in straight sets and I was impressed with how easily Berdych disposed of Istomin and then Kavcic who I thought may of gave some resistance atleast. Gasquet struggled in the second set Vs a player in Andujar who is much more of a clay courter.

Re: Pre-Season - January 11 A lot of claycourters can play on hardcourt. Robredo, Andujar, Ramos, Cuevas, Bolleli etc... the transition from claycourt to hardcourt isn't as hard as you may think. It's just that these guys take advantage of the clay field, as their games lend itself mostly to the mud. To mix it with the best on hardcourt you need heavier weapons, or a counter-punching style of game. I wouldn't be too quick to label and dismiss them. Gasquet played sublime against Bolelli and his backhand was in working order. He's been working with Sebastian Greojen on maintaining his court position up on the baseline, so he doesn't become too passive. He also has the minerals to neutralise the Berdych serve and overall firepower. I wouldn't be quick to suggest it's going to be easy. Gasquet loves playing in Doha, great record here and brings a feel good factor to his tennis. The people here are in love with his single handed backhand and give him huge support. Berdych's game is unappealing, mechanical and robotic, he doesn't appeal to them. This is like a home tournament for Rishard.

Re: Pre-Season - January 11 Novak Djokovic vs Ivo Karlovic Under 21.5 games @1.88 with 5Dimes 3pts Who's the best return of server in the history of tennis? Novak Djokovic. Simple. The gymnast is what his nickname is, can he neutralise the Karlovic serve? Possibly. He struggles historically with the Isner serve, but the fact is Isner doesn't dash the net the way Ivo does. Ivo's second serve is also neither anywhere near as good as Isner's. Not in height trajectory or kick. His second serve has angle, but not enough kick to throw Djokovic onto the backfoot and into an unmanageable position. I see Novak picking Ivo off on his second serve as Ivo is dashing into the net. Passing him, jamming him. It really should be easy pickings. I can't see Ivo getting to one tiebreak, let alone two, but if worst comes to worst there'll be one and then hopefully Novak will be starting out serving in the second. Djokovic's ability to attack the serve when on the backfoot is like none-other and I can't see Ivo surviving for 6 service games per set.

Re: Pre-Season - January 11 3pts K.Nishikori to beat B.Tomic 2-0 Evens BetWin I think Kei has a good shot at this tournament and he should beat Tomic here without dropping a set. I can only find one head-2-head but that was on the grass in which Nish won. He will want to get in good prep for his Australian bid and I haven't been too impressed with Tomic who although won his two matches in straight sets, struggled to win them with half of the sets being tie-breakers against not so tough opponents. Nish in two for me.

What do you think about Dimitrov and Raonic?
If you looked back on my threads over the years, I ALWAYS lay Raonic however when it comes to the hard courts I leave him be because judging on his previous match where he smashed in like 17 aces, he looks well up for it. I think he will win his match in straight sets. I think if we was not in Australia then he would be even more of a favourite. I was actually looking at Klizan but this game is also a non bet for me because Dimitrov I think will win it. It could be anything score wise depending on which Dimitrov turns up but there is just no value in this game for me. Klizan is a good player but again, a clay courter for me and I think he may struggle with the returns. So in summary, no bet :)

Ty, I'll try : Raonic, Dimitrov, Wozniacki, Nishi 2-0, Hingis/Lisicki and Halep. Too dangerous?
