Re: MLB Outright Betting 2015 Season 3 pts E/W Boston Red Sox to win World Series 34.00 William Hill It is quite clear that last year didnt go to plan for the defending champs, but one thing they have managed to do in the past is take advantage of a down year and retool, which they certainly did with some of their business at the trade deadline. The team desperately needs a front line pitcher (or two) but has both the money to obtain one in free agency, bringing Jon Lester back would be ideal, they also have an abundance of outfielders that could be used to trade for the right pitcher. There are plenty of rumours linking them to a blockbuster deal for Giancarlo Stanton, which while is unlikely this price will collapse if they add a player of that calibre to the lineup. This team won it all two seasons ago, and in a division where the Rays look due for a down period, as do the Yankees, in my mind the window has slammed shut in Toronto as well, they only need pass the Orioles to make October, and there are some performances for the Orioles that are't neccesarily all that repeatable so it is reasonable to suggest the Red Sox can make it to October with the right acquisitions when free agency opens and I wanted to jump on early.

Re: MLB Outright Betting 2015 Season The other one I want to get on before the main free agents sign is 2 pts E/W Chicago Cubs to win World Series 34.00 Coral The Cubs have been in a rebuild for a while now and look close to me. They have hired Joe Maddon after he left the Rays, he has previously been the managerial architect of a worst to first move when the Rays won the American League pennant having been in last place before falling short to the Phillies in the Fall Classic. The Cubs not only have an awful lot of positional talent that has just broken through into the majors with the likes of Soler and Baez, but they have a young roster with plenty more talent on the way just below the Major League level. The front office is rooted in Boston where they had a big part in ending the "other" curse and it could well be Chicagos time, they have the option to build via trade as they have too many layers, particularly in the infield, than they have available roster spots, and they also have the budget of a club in a large market that Chicago is. They need to add at least one, ideally two pitchers to go with their young ace Jake Arrieta and the impressive Kyle Hendricks, if the rumours of a trade with the Phillies for Cole Hamels come to fruition and they manage to successfully negotiate with a Jon Lester or a James Shields from the open market, then they will be one power bat in their lineup to protect the likes of 1B Anthony Rizzo and a decent offensive Catcher away from making the price look very silly. I certainly anticipate that the Cubs will start the season shorter than this price and am already annoyed I missed 40/1. If anyone needs any further convincing, well, we all remember what happened when Marty McFly went to 2015 right?.......... http://youtu.be/ADXs2C4Vmho

Re: MLB Outright Betting 2015 Season 3 pts e/w Seattle Mariners to win World Series 26.00 Stan James Seattle were quite close last year to breaking into the playoffs falling short over the final weekend. Felix Hernandez is a pitcher worthy of leading any staff rotation and needs to be seen in the playoff arena. Behind him is a wealth of talented pitchers with Hisashi Iwakuma, and the young starters Paxton and Walker. The problem for this team is offense, they struggle to score runs consistently and while the addition of Robinson Cano last season and the locking up of Kyle Seager are a good start, one power hitter would put this team in the conversation and two would make them a real contender, I anticipate they will trade some of their wealth of pitching either to Boston for Cespedes or maybe Atlanta for Upton, and they could yet pick up a useful bat in free agency. This team is close enough that really that shoukd be sufficient to get them at least into wildcard consideration behind their pitching and should they make the additions 25/1 seems a bit too big

Re: MLB Outright Betting 2015 Season I dont have time to do the write ups for these two picks until Saturday but want to post them now 1.5 pts e/w Chicago White Sox to win World Series 51.00 William Hill Ok. Chicago look to have upgraded in many of their areas of weakness. Adam Laroche comes in to play 1st, and is a great fit for the ball park. Jeff Samardzija has been added to a rotation that already features Chris Sale and Jose Quintana to round out an excellent top three. The pen was a massive problem last season and they have paid more cash than I would have preferred for relief pitching in David Robertsons contract, but he was consensus best reliever available and he and the underrated Zach Duke can only help the Sox turn leads into actual wins. Throw in the addition of Melky Cabrera to play some outfield, anticipated progression from rookie of the year Jose Abreu and hopefully healthy seasons from Avisail Garcia and Adam Eaton and these Sox look to have a decent mix of pitching, offense, athleticism and power and could well make some noise at the back end of the season...........at last!!!! 1.5 pts e/w Miami Marlins to win World Series 51.00 Skybet You get the idea that Miami sense a window of opportunity in the East with Atlanta and Philly retooling, the Mets kind of in no mans land, if they add required pieces and Washington dont work (as happened to them two years ago when they were obvious NL favourites coming off 100 wins and flamed out) then who knows. they have decent pitching and add a top level starter when Fernandez returns midway through the season. As long as Stanton doesnt carry too many mental scars from the ball to the face he took last season, they have THE elite power hitter in all of baseball. Miami are adding low risk contracts that wont cost them much if they decide they want to back out in usual Marlins fashion. but there is plenty of existing young talent, and high upside free agents if they work out can take this team up to a highly competitive level and the likes of Matt Latos, Dee Gordon, Michael Morse and Martin Prado can achieve their goals this year

Re: MLB Outright Betting 2015 Season Only couple of weeks to go now and I really like the look of the red sox this year. although they have yet to add an ace pitcher to the staff they have 5 very capable experienced starters. It is the batting line up that looks immense for Boston with a good mixture of power youth and experience. If pedroia can get back to his best a line up consisting of him napoli ortiz sandoval bogarts ramirez looks like it should consistentlying score enough runs to make up for the lack of an ace pitcher. I think the 2/1 for Boston to win the al east is a must

Re: MLB Outright Betting 2015 Season ok, as the season is a matter of days away it is time to return to this thread and round out the portfolio I will not be putting any more outrights up for the forseeable, though I was tempted with the Dodgers, who I believe are the best all round team in MLB and the Pirates, but I just cant bring myself to invest in that rotation (The Vance Worley hate coming out again) and to be honest anyone who followed with the early ones is in a reasonably strong position as both the Red Sox and Cubs have halved in price before a pitch has been hurled. To hit the most Home Runs this season Now, backing Giancarlo Stanton is a lot of fun in this market as he hits a lot of long balls and he hits them a long long way. At 6/1 there is little to no value at all, I have backed him every season he has been in the big leagues to hit the most long balls and have yet to pick up a penny (Though I am convinced he overhauls Nelson Cruz last year if he doesnt take that pitch to the face) and it remains to be seen how well he is psychologically after taking a pitch that literally smashed his face. Now. I am gutted that nobody bets on rookie of the year, I mentioned to Samba Sampa in early November that I wanted to back Kris Bryant of the Chicago Cubs for NL rookie of the year, nobody puts the market up, that said, I am going to play him in this market as he has incredible power as has been on show in Spring Training. Now before anyone jumps on here to tell me he has been sent to the minor leagues, I am aware of this fact and also aware that he gains an extra year of club control after 9 games of the season at which point I am certain he will join the big league club. betting a rookie is always a risk in this market (Giancarlo finished 5th his rookie year at 50/1 for example back when he was Mike) but I m willing to take a punt on Bryant at 33/1 over 153 games of a season. Mark Trumbo will strike out or hit it out in the main, he is an injury risk having missed most of last season after joining the Diamondbacks, he has a hell of a lot of power and is a great fit for the stadium in Arizona - the main risks with this selection are injury and the possibility of a trade at some point down the line as the Diamondbacks seem to have a surplus of corner infielders and Trumbo is a definite trade candidate which would potentially throw a spanner in the works dependent on where he was traded to of course. Bryce Harper and his power have been no secret since he was hitting 500 ft home runs as a 14 year old and gracing the front cover of major sport publications. If he stays healthy and reemerges from something of a slump last season then he has to be considered value at the price available. Jose Bautista has led the majors in home runs twice in recent seasons and has plenty of protection in the lineup around him in Edwin Encarnacion and the newly acquired Josh Donaldson and again wit the caveat of health could be a major player at a decent price in this market as he has missed time in the last couple of years. George Springer played 78 times in his rookie season for the Houston Astros last season........he hit 20 home runs in less than half a season - Nelson Cruz ed MLB last year with 40 home runs - do the math, it is perfectly reasonable to expect improvement from Springer as well, I think he is a knocking bet and the best value out there for an improving team that has enough lineup protection and enough upside that we could cash nicely here with him as a main selection and the other 4 as backup in what is in effect a novelty market 1 pt Jose Bautista to lead MLB in Home Runs 22/1 Paddy Power 1 pts Bryce Harper to lead MLB in Home Runs 40/1 BetVictor 1 pts Kris Bryant to lead MLB in Home Runs 40/1 William Hill 1 pts Mark Trumbo to lead MLB in Home Runs 33/1 Coral 2 pts George Springer to lead MLB in Home Runs 40/1 William Hill

Re: MLB Outright Betting 2015 Season I will address all the other "novelty" markets in this post 2 pts Stephen Strasburg to record the most strikeouts in baseball this season 12.00 Paddy Power 3 pts Max Scherzer to record the most strikeouts in MLB this season 8.50 William Hill 1 pts David Price to record most strikeouts in MLB this season 15.00 Paddy Power Taking a pair of Nationals in this market. The Scherzer selection is simple, he was 3rd in K's last season and moves from the AL to the easier NL as he gets to face the pitcher each time through the lineup so really should increase his number from last season and is facing hitters who havent seen him as much as their AL counterparts. Strasburg is sick - he has an awesome curveball and his stuff is dirty, he is easily the best no.3 starter in MLB, he was also top 10 in strikeouts last year and will give us a run fr our cash. David Price was the leader in this market last year so make what you will of that price (no pun intended) so am going to put the Detroit Tiger in as a fallback option. American League Cy Young Award Winner 1 pts Chris Sale - 9.00 William Hill I am concerned with Felix Hernandez coming into this year and Chris Sale is a pitcher who is always in the Cy Young award conversation, an improved year from my White Sox could be enough for hi to take this award down as he registers decent numbers statistically across the board. I couldnt put anybody off David Price as an alternative and he has won it before, most of the pitchers I was looking at as value in this market have huge red flags on an injury front so am not going to get involved with the likes of Masahiro Tanaka or Drew Smylly. National League MVP 1 pts Kris Bryant 50/1 Paddy Power 1 pts Yasiel Puig 18/1 Paddy Power 2 pts Andrew McCutcheon 6/1 Paddy Power I am all in on Kris Bryant, cant really say any more, rookie of the year and MVP has been done so this wouldnt set a precedent and this kid is talented enough. Yasiel Puig is a live outsider as he can do things a lot of players cant and is a player who if he remains focussed could easily challenge for MVP honours on what is likely a hugely successful Dodgers team. Andrew McCutcheon is a great player defensively and offensively, if the Pirates are going to have a good season a lot of it will be to do with this guy and he will be in the conversation. Giancarlo is favourite for this market, I just have a niggling doubt about him this season so will take him on with these three. NL Cy Young 1 pts Doug Fister 40/1 various bookmakers This is an insulting price for the forgotten man of the Nationals five, there is no reason for him to be 4 times the price of his counterparts in the Nats rotation. Clay Kershaw is obviously the likeliest winner of this award and as I cant find a bookmaker quoting a price on Kyle Hendricks for the Cy Young award then I am happy to roll with Fister - I cannot find words to express how overpriced he is in this market

Re: MLB Outright Betting 2015 Season last one 2 pts Doug Fister - most pitcher wins 26.00 Coral This is probably the better bet compared with the above. Fister will be at the back end of the rotation as 4/5 starter after Scherzer, Strasburg and Zimmermann. On most teams he would be a no.2 pitcher at worst and will therefore oppose weaker pitching opponents. If the Nats are as good as their odds suggest they could be then this is a large price on a talented pitcher at the back end of a stacked rotation BRING ON THE SEASON good luck to all who play

Re: MLB Outright Betting 2015 Season Dan, many thanks for the write ups, cracking stuff. I really fancy Seattle to have a good season and have backed them to win the WS at 18/1 with Corals. How do you think Giancarlo will fare? I was listening to him last week on Baseball tonight and he was saying he can't wait for the season to get under way. Had a few bob on him at 8/1 at Hills for the most home runs also a few bob on Mike Trout 18/1 also at Hills. Good luck everyone having a bet on the Baseball this season.

Re: MLB Outright Betting 2015 Season This is the first season I havent bet on Giancarlo for most home runs. I really cant put anyone off I am sure he will hit the most at least once in his career but i have seen his price progressively shrink year on year and its shorter than I personally want to play. I think Seattle could well have a good year, so long as Felix continues at his level of play and doesnt do a Verlander (i have a few reasons to worry about that possibility) they should have just about enough offense and the pitching is good. Good luck with your bets!!

Well, i should wrap thus up for the season.

Nil return on the antepost book

Bryce Harper gave us a run in home runs ultimately falling 5 short

Scherzer finished 2nd in strikeouts behind clay kershaw

The mets swept the cubbies in the NLCS denying a return there

And chris sale fell apart down the stretch in late august and september when he was a legit cy young contender

Close but no cigar, i really hope to have more time to post next year as my personal circumstances change
