Honestly, after what I've seen 2 weeks ago and even if considering the humiliation that happened to Sporting with an unexpected 0-3 loss in Guimarães last sunday, I can safely affirm that Sporting is a much better team that Schalke, that currently are undergoing a transition phase with new coach Di Matteo, and still look a bit on shambles. Di Matteo should give them defensive strength on the long-term though, but for now, they still don't look good enough. Moreover, they have a lot of important absences, including talisman Draxler, central defender Joel Matip, and attackers Jefferson Farfan and Sidney Sam. Other doubtful players are Howedes and Kevin Prince Boateng. Sporting has the whole team available except Mauricio, central defender that is an usual starter, but a bad one at that. Although, Sarr is even worse than him. Sporting defensive line has been compromising too much lately, left and right-backs are not at their best and Rui Patricio looks a bit out of form. Only Paulo Oliveira has been playing well in defence. However, Sporting midfield and attack are very good, are playing really well in 90% of the matches and I expect them to play really well today once again. Nani, Carrillo and Slimani are big firepower, and a midfield with William, Adrien and João Mário could easily dominate Schalke 04 if well organized. In summary: leaky defenses, great attacking power and high-pressure match. Even though Sporting has the advantage and the Sporting + Over 2.5 (3 on Unibet) or Sporting + BTTS (4.2 on BWin) could be considered, I do feel their defensive line could put them at stake if players are unfocused and Rui Patricio (goalkeeper) is on a bad day. Therefore, I avoid to look in 1X2 opportunities and get in the goals market. Over 3.5 looks tasty at 3.10, and I would price it 2.75. EDIT: Also going for Nani TSA @ 6.00. That is massively bad priced!! Should be 4.5

Taking into consideration all the aspects you explained and the fact Schalke04 far from Veltins Arena has been defeated 4/5 + weak defensive line Sporting + big fire power of attacking line Sporting by my point of view looks a good choice the 1X+GG. Honestly I dont think germans can win this game tonite.

Sadly,i can't share your optimism about goals here-maybe if Sporting score 3,ok sure but i just can't trust Schalke at this point.I watched them against Augsburg on Friday and i was far from impressed.Their attack wasn't what i expected to be and now with all these missing players i surely ain't count on them to score here.You know Sporting better than i do but they should have a really bad defence if you expect them to concede,especially more than one.It's true that Schalke scored 4 in Germany but that was when they were on form and with squad fully fit.I had only 1 bet for today and it is the Draw between Bilbao and Porto but i decided to put a small punt on here too.Sporting-Schalke 2:0 Correct Score @ 10 with bet365 because i don't expect a replay from the game two weeks ago.

I agree, I just don't think backing a Di Matteo side to be involved in a high scoring game is the best option IMO.

I know Sporting and Schalke well enough (especially Sporting as I am a Sporting fan) and I know the chances of a high-scoring goal are higher than low-scoring. But just as both of you say, I also think that this one could be a low-scoring affair, but never without Sporting and Schalke conceding. I actually feel that BTTS is a very safe bet tonight considering both have awful defenses, but I can't rate anything that above evens as value. And Even a Di Matteo side can't be so good defensively with 3 weeks of work and a lot of absences in the back.

Re: Sporting CP v FC Schalke 04 > Wednesday November 5th For me there's no relationship between the first game and this one cause i believe situation's changed. schalke lost a very important player, draxler last weekend. this will blow out the attack system which is also able to be seen vs augsburg. schalke has 2 3 shots in the game and find the goal by an individual performance of Uchida from right back. Schalke mostly trying to defence their back line and try strange counter attacks with wrong players cause right now Obasi is probably the only guy who can make impact to the game. Höger, Neustädter are playing defensively while Meyer doesnt look like promising as last year, Choupo-Moting i believe still cant fit to the team. If we talk about Huntelaar, yeah he's probably one of the most dominant forward player right now in Bundesliga but dont assume that he makes this by trying too many shots. In fact huntelaar statistically is on of the top 5 forward player now with trying few shots and score. For tonight's game however, there's one guy that can change the game and he's Boateng. Sources say that he's a game time decision. He has or indirectly involve in some trash talks with Di Matteo and if he plays, probably he will want to put some effect to the game and also probably first time after Keller, he will play at attacking midfield or false 9 which is his original position. To add this Schalke summary of my own, i'd like to add information about defence. I believe Schalke has a very strong defence line and under Di Matteo now they finally show their teeth. This is also by the reason of players like Kirchoff and Höger. Games under di matteo also showed that team start to train more defence. 1 goal conceded at Leverkusen away, 0 goal this week against Augsburg is good performance. Plus Fahrmann is one of the hot prospect goalkeeper in German football. I dont know much about sporting side so maybe one can tell information about them but to sum up, for me bet will be decided when we hear the first 11's. if boateng will be there, i expect a close schalke win again.

Schalke won 1-0 and I'm not sure whether they deserved it or not. They certainly seemed to play like a Latin side in that game, relying on their strong defence to close the game and not pushing many men forwards in attack. They were effective in defence, and their goalkeeper was excellent. Does Di Matteo prefer a defensive style? I think they will find it a bit harder tonight against Sporting. Will Schalke aim for a draw or perhaps a narrow win like 1-0? Certainly Sporting tend to be strong at home, and they really need to win tonight. I was thinking over 2.5 goals was good value at around 1.85, but seeing how defensive Schalke are, I'm not sure. I could imagine a defensive game which opens up near the end if Sporting aren't winning.
