The T20 World Cup isn't far away now and with warm up series going on all over the place and teams starting to assemble now is a good time to start the thread. Much more elongated tournament this one with the minnows in it but I like the fact they have to qualify for the main draw. 35 games in total before we find out who the best T20 side in the world are. The whole event, minnows bit and everything is live on Sky in the UK and its at fairly watchable times even though it is in Bangladesh so here's hoping for a top tournament :ok. Re: ICC World T20 2014 Given that we can get outright odds of 4/1 or better on all the teams, that means there is good money to be made if we can make some headway in figuring out who will win this T20 World Cup. I think we can rule out England and South Africa and probably the West Indies too, at the odds offered New Zealand and Bangladesh look like decent bets. What do other people think? Difficult to choose between India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Australia.

Re: ICC World T20 2014 I think this is a hard one to figure out - many imponderables. I took a price of 16/1 on New Zealand before their ODI series with India. Even at that point they seemed like a cricketing nation on the up, recalling Otago's run in the Champions League last year for example. I like their batting order (although Jesse Ryder has ruled himself out now, silly boy), decent all-rounders like Neesham and Anderson and a high-quality seam attack who work well together. I think Mitchell McClenaghan could do good things in this comp for NZ, he is an imposing chap and his recent ODI stats are impressive. In the interests of balance, without Dan Vettori they lack a real top drawer spinner, which will hamper them in BD. McNathan is 'decent', and Kane Williamson can bowl tidy offspin, but these are not Ajmal or Narine, with respect. The Kiwis also have an abject recent white ball record in BD, against BD, and i guess you have to be prepared to look past that to consider them a good bet. They do have most of their team in good nick at the moment though, they are confident and have a captain i really like in BBMac. I think it is an interesting debate to have about whether they are a good bet at 10/1 now. I still fancy them to do something. West Indies also look like they are finding form at the right time. Think they had lost five or six t20s in a row including that defeat to Ireland, but have strung together a sequence now. Their batting depth and power is terrifying, genuine hitters all the way down to 8 against England yesterday. Plenty of bowling options as well, especially if Narine's knee is ok. Pollard a miss mind you. Aussies look a solid proposition, but at 4/1 you might argue they are a bit short on subcontinental soil. As you say, you can make a case for a number of teams - hard one to call. Whoever you pick, best of luck :) I have had an e/w nibble on Marlon Samuels top tournament runscorer at 50/1 ( paddy, 1/4 odds 1-4 ). His touch looks good enough given he's still coming back from injury, first drop in a team that could go deep so he has a chance of some decent crease time. He was 3rd on the runs chart in the 2012 world t20 and, whilst you could make a case for 20 or more guys, i think this looks a nice price for a player of his quality. Ireland to win their qualifying pool is another one I've taken, 2/1 on bet365 (think they might have shortened slightly in the last couple of days). Their commitment levels and motivation can never be doubted in these ICC comps, they have a point to prove. They walked the qualifying tournament in November and have that win against the Windies to give them a boost at the right time (that was a slightly understrength and rusty WI side though, to be fair, but they are still entitled to take encouragement from the result). Trent Johnson will be missed but they do still have some genuine quality, and guys like Stirling and K O'Brien have experience of playing in BD from last year's BPL. Zimbabwe are the threat in that pool, but I'm sure others will have read about the terrible state of cricket in that country. The players were on strike for some time, and while things have started to improve recently, you have to wonder what sort of state of mind these guys will be in. Not to mention the lack of competitive match practice in this format. I may be calling this all wrong but my instincts tell me this is quite a decent bet. Ireland have almost twice as many ICC T20 rating points as Zimbabwe ( 91 vs 46 - http://www.espncricinfo.com/rankings/content/page/211271.html ). Anyway, best of luck to everyone and hopefully it will be a good and exciting comp. :ok

Re: ICC World T20 2014 Sunday previews: 4pts S.Al-Hasan's Performance Pts - 46&Over 4/5 Bet365 Bangladesh are bound to be a nervous side going into this match and so they will need their big players to perform if they are to come out of the game with the win. There is no bigger player for them than Shakib-al-Hasan and with him batting at three in the T20 sphere I expect him to go well. His performance line looks a touch on the low side even at 46 because he can cover that number with both bat and ball or a combination of the two. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/bangladesh-vs-afghanistan-betting-shakib-can-go-well-in-the-tournament-opener 4pts I.Ahmed's Performance Pts - 27&Over 5/6 Bet365 Irfan Ahmed opens the batting for Hong Kong and more often than not he bowls a tidy four overs as well. In the warm up match he played against Zimbabwe ahead of this tournament he took 3 wickets and scored eight runs and in his last four T20 matches he has got 9 wickets so he is a threat with the ball and dangerous with the bat and that should see him past a performance target of 27pts. Re: ICC World T20 2014 Agreed on the Marlon Samuels bet, 50/1 is a fantastic price for someone that carries a lot of the Windies scoring responsibility after the explosives of Gayle. Finished 3rd top run scorer in last T20 WC in Sri Lanka, so the big occasions clearly don't rattle him. Great value. I also like Brendon McCullum at 33/1 (PP - EW 1-4 1/4). He got 221 runs in just 5 matches in the last T20 WC in Sri Lanka, which is similar-ish conditions, so no problem there. He finished 5th then, and the guys above him played 2 extra games (apart from one who played just one extra). So if NZ can go deep, as they have a half decent chance (as argued earlier on), then 33s on their main man at the top represents great value. Also like the fact there is always a chance of McCullum posting a monster score - one of Zimbabwe, Ireland, Netherlands or UAE will qualify for NZ's group, and he also has a chance to get his teeth stuck into a lackluster England again, so chances for a big score from McCullum aren't out of the question.

Re: ICC World T20 2014 Tournament preview: 3pts ew Sri Lanka to win World T20 6/1 Bet365 (1/2 1-2) For me Sri Lanka look the pick of the outright market at 6/1. They have excellent players with spin in their line up and they have players who can win games in an instant with the bat. Their wide range of spinners should help them in the tournament and then with the dynamite Lasith Malinga in their ranks too they have the gun man of the tournament. Sri Lanka were runners up last time out in this tournament and with the group they have been given they look excellent value at 6/1. Re: ICC World T20 2014 Monday previews: 4pts P.Stirling's Performance Pts - 35&Over 5/6 Bet365 Paul Stirling will be an important player for Ireland in this tournament. He opens the batting for the boys in green and he will bowl four overs of off spin which should be critical on these wickets. The Middlesex opener has a performance target of 35pts in this match and that isn’t beyond him. He is capable of covering that with the bat and the ball so I like the overs there. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/ireland-vs-zimbabwe-betting-paul-stirling-can-impress-on-st-patrick-s-day 4pts UAE to beat Netherlands 6/5 Ladbrokes The Netherlands look priced up on past glories to me here. The days where Ryan ten Doeschate come in and splatter bowling attacks around the park are long gone and they have struggled with the bat ever since he stopped playing. The UAE are an improving force at this level and with their spin options and experience on these sort of wickets they look a good thing to me in this one. Re: ICC World T20 2014 UAE - 2.05 Betway (medium stake) I have to agree with Kev here. Netherlands are in minor disarray, with poor form and controversy surrounding Cooper's late inclusion. UAE have won this fixture both times previously and their spinners will fare well on this slow-ish pitch. Only drawback is that it's a small ground and if Netherlands bat first and a couple of the Dutch get going they could post a good score. but I think the UAE spinners will win the day.

Re: ICC World T20 2014 Catches win matches :sad. Tuesday previews: 3pts I.Ahmed's Performance Pts - 30&Over 5/6 Bet365 I took Irfan Ahmed’s performance in the first game and he didn’t really deliver although he bowled quite well without too much luck and I think he is worth sticking with here. He will bowl a tidy four overs against a batting line up who take risks and get after the bowling and then he’ll open the batting against a quicker new ball pairing which should come on to his bat better. Once again 30pts doesn’t look a big total and I’ll take him to put in a better showing and cover that. One man I’m always happy to bet on is Shakib-al-Hasan. He’s a class act whichever format of the game he is playing and whoever he’s playing against. He has a performance line of 50 in this match and given that he covered that with the ball in the last game and is more than capable of covering it with the bat too I’ll stay on Shakib’s side here. Re: ICC World T20 2014 Wednesday previews: 3pts Netherlands to beat Zimbabwe 2/1 Coral I think the Dutch are a bit of value here. There is no pressure on them and all the pressure on Zimbabwe because if the African side lose here their race is run when they were expected to qualify for the Super 10s. The Dutch looked very good with the bat in their first match which was their Achilles heel in recent times and if they go well with the bat here this one is very much winnable. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/netherlands-vs-zimbabwe-betting-men-in-orange-can-make-it-two-from-two 4pts Ireland vs UAE - Over 7.5 sixes Evs Stan James UAE didn’t do a huge amount right against the Dutch on Monday but one thing I did like was their attacking intent with the bat even though they were two down early doors. They were hitting big which isn’t a bad move on a small ground. Ireland will also hit big in this match with the likes of Stirling, O’Brien and Poynter capable of clearing any rope so over 7.5 sixes looks perfectly in range to me here. Catches win matches :sad. Very unlucky today mate, at least one awful drop off Irfan that i saw and then 3 short for Shakib despite a classic knock. Hope for better luck tomorrow :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Re: ICC World T20 2014 Fortunate that the rain came down there for you mate. Just had a massive go at William Hill myself. I had the 'Under's on boundaries and sixes which were nailed on winners until the skies opened and floodlights failed. The boundaries could not have lost even if Ireland hit 4 sixes at the end yet my bets were still voided because more than 3 overs were lost. Just said to them that it is completely laughable that if a team scored 10 runs in an innings, and someone had a bet of 'Under 35.5 Boundaries' and then it poured down during the interval that under their rules, the bets would still be voided. Basically said they should sack whoever came up with that rule :lol. Feel a bit sorry for the customer service guy actually considering he was pretty helpful, but needed to take out some frustration. GL for the rest of the tournament though bud. :ok

Re: ICC World T20 2014 I've had so many of them go against me so I'll take it when they come my way ;). Thursday previews: 4pts M.Shahzad Over 22.5 runs 5/6 Ladbrokes Mohammed Shahzad batted with good responsibility in the last match. He spoke of how he was given instructions to give himself a few balls to get himself in before being destructive against Hong Kong and that worked. With the same instructions here I would expect him to go well again and I don't think 23 runs are beyond Afghanistan's keeper here. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/afghanistan-vs-nepal-betting-mohammad-shahzad-can-impress-once-again 4pts A.Haque Over 21.5 runs 4/5 Paddy Power Anamul Haque has made excellent forties in the first two matches of the tournament and he is clearly in great form. He performed well in the Asia Cup and looks a class above the associate sides in the tournament so far so I expect him to go well again in this match. His runs line is set at 21.5 which looks a bit too low on what we’ve seen so far so I’ll take the overs here. Re: ICC World T20 2014 Friday previews: 4pts H.Masakadza's Performance Pts - 32&Over 5/6 Bet365 Hamilton Masakadza is one of Zimbabwe’s better players. He’s a very good batsman in his own right but he bowls a bit of seam up and can field well too so he’ll always be in this game and his performance target of 32 looks well within range. He covered it with the bat alone against the Netherlands and with this UAE attack very wayward early on you would think the Zimbabwe opener will tuck right in here so I like the overs here too with bowling and fielding to fall back on should he not make 32 with the bat. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/zimbabwe-vs-uae-betting-hamilton-masadakza-can-tee-off-in-sylhet 4pts Netherlands Most 6s vs Ireland 5/4 Coral I think this will be a really good game. In truth I can’t pick a winner although Ireland are probably right to be favourites but given they need a big win I do think there is plenty of value in the Netherlands hitting the most sixes. The whole of their top order can hit a big ball whereas with Ed Joyce at three Ireland’s main hitters – Stirling aside, are down the order. This Dutch bowling attack isn’t easy to get hold of so the 5/4 on the men in Orange hitting the most sixes appeals here. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/ireland-vs-netherlands-betting-men-in-orange-can-hit-the-most-sixes-in-sylhet 4pts Pakistan to beat India 6/5 William Hill This is an intriguing opener to the Super 10s. India’s powerful batting but weak bowling against Pakistan’s stuttering batting and sensational bowling attack. Usually in T20 matches I’m on the side with the bowlers and I’m going to go in that direction here too. India’s awful death bowling should in theory ease the pressure on Pakistan if they are chasing a score and they have enough in their batting line up to set something up for their bowlers so I’ll take them here. Re: ICC World T20 2014 Saturday early game preview: 4pts Sri Lanka to beat South Africa 4/5 Ladbrokes If this match was outside of Asia even though they are in transition you could make a case for South Africa but it is hard to do that in Asia because they lack a top class spinner and they don’t have a settled batting line up. Sri Lanka look the real deal to me and have a good record in this tournament so I like them to open their tournament with a win. Re: ICC World T20 2014 Saturday later game preview: 5pts New Zealand to beat England 8/11 Skybet New Zealand go into this competition with a lot more momentum and a much more settled unit than England and I think that will show in this match. While New Zealand lack a quality spinner they do at least have seamers who take wickets and they have a very powerful batting line up. England’s batting line up is anything but settled and their bowlers regularly get tonked so this should be a New Zealand win. Re: ICC World T20 2014 Sunday previews: 4pts Australia vs Pakistan - Over 10.5 sixes 5/6 Stan James Australia don’t have a great record against Pakistan in this format of the game but they’ve not played for nearly two years so it will be interesting to see if anything has changed. Even so given their record they look plenty short enough at 8/15. Something else which looks short is the sixes line. It should be a good wicket in this first game with it needing to last all day so I expect a bit of pace for the batsmen to use. Both sides can clear the ropes at will so I like over 10.5 sixes here. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/australia-vs-pakistan-betting-powerful-batting-line-ups-can-hit-a-few-sixes 4pts West Indies to beat India 6/5 Bet365 I think the West Indies are decent value here as they can win games with the bat and the ball unlike India who are only ever going to win matches with the bat with this bowling line up. If Gayle gets going the 6/5 on the Windies will look big very quickly but there’s enough backing him up to make the price look good value so I’ll take the champions to open their defence with a win. Re: ICC World T20 2014 Monday previews: 4pts Q.de Kock Over 18.5 runs 5/6 Ladbrokes This should be a good match between a couple of big hitting sides. It is South Africa’s bowling against New Zealand’s power batting and something will have to give. One man who can give it some tap for South Africa is Quinton de Kock. He is in good form at the minute which makes me believe his runs line is a little low at 18.5. He has covered that in eight of his last nine T20 internationals and given that he is looking more and more at home at this level with each game I think he’ll cover this. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/new-zealand-vs-south-africa-betting-quinton-de-kock-can-get-sa-off-to-a-solid-start 4pts L.Malinga's Performance Pts - 40&Over 5/6 Bet365 Lasith Malinga only took one wicket against the South Africans in Sri Lanka’s first match but nearly all the of the South African batsmen will have faced Malinga before and that won’t be the case with the Netherlands. Malinga took four in the warm up game with India before this tournament so we know he is in wicket taking mood and I’d expect him to bag at least a couple here which would be enough to cover a 40pt performance target. Re: ICC World T20 2014 Tuesday preview: 5pts Over 9.5 sixes 5/6 Stan James West Indies’ batsmen were pegged down by the mystery spin against India but Bangladesh don’t really have any of that so I expect to see a much more explosive batting display from the champions here. Bangladesh are likely to tee off with the bat too. That seems to be their way in this format of the game and with Tamim, Rahim, Shakib and Mahmudullah all capable of hitting a long ball there’s enough in this home line up to suggest they can add a fair number to the six hitting which should see the 9.5 line covered. Re: ICC World T20 2014 Thursday previews: 4pts JP Duminy's Performance Pts - 35&Over 5/6 Bet365 JP Duminy scored 150 in an ODI against the Dutch in the past and given that he goes into this match in excellent form I think he is worth taking to cover a performance total of 35pts. Duminy’s innings against New Zealand was pure class and there’s nothing to suggest he can’t cover this with the bat but given the conditions he is likely to bowl some overs and he’ll field in the key areas too so this total looks well within reach. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/south-africa-vs-netherlands-betting-jp-duminy-can-go-well-against-the-dutch 4pts Sri Lanka Highest 1st 6 overs 8/11 Betfred Storms are predicted in the area during the later evening on Thursday so rather than take Sri Lanka to win the match where Duckworth/Lewis could have a major say in the game it might be better to take them to win the first six overs. England’s attack can all go around the park in the powerplay while Sri Lanka’s openers need no invitation to tee off. England’s openers like to be positive too but with Malinga to deal with that won’t be easy so I expect Sri Lanka to lead after both powerplays have been done. Re: ICC World T20 2014 Friday previews: 4pts West Indies to beat Australia 8/5 Boylesports The defending champions look a big price to me here. Australia struggled against the spin when the going got tough against Pakistan and they’ll face another trial by two very competent spinners in this match too so they will need to improve drastically with the bat. They need to improve with the ball too. Their attack isn’t suited to Asian conditions and the Windies have a batting line up waiting to take them to the cleaners. Something has to give here and I sense it could be the Australian bowlers rather than the West Indian ones. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/australia-vs-west-indies-betting-west-indies-look-good-value-to-take-care-of-australia 4pts A.Haque to beat T.Iqbal 5/6 Bet365 Anamul Haque has beaten Tamim Iqbal in each of Bangladesh’s four matches in this tournament and so it is a surprise that he is 5/6 to beat him again here. Haque made a solid 77 opening the batting against this same Indian attack in the Asia Cup recently so we know he can deal with this attack and given that Tamim can be a little reckless I’ll take the lesser experienced one of the opening pair here. Re: ICC World T20 2014 Saturday previews: 3pts Netherlands Highest 1st 6 overs 2/1 Bet365 Although the Netherlands have been beaten in both their matches they were much more competitive against South Africa and they should be competitive here too. I don’t think they’ll win but they look overpriced to lead after six overs. Martin Guptill looks horribly out of nick at the minute and Kane Williamson can take a while to get going whereas the Dutch mix their bowlers well at the start and then with the bat they go all guns blazing in the first six overs. While it would be a shock if the Dutch win the match it won’t be quite such a shock should they lead through six overs. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/netherlands-vs-new-zealand-betting-netherlands-can-attack-the-kiwis-early-on 4pts England to beat South Africa 5/4 Ladbrokes England were written off going into this tournament but with their batting line up going ok despite not fully firing there is reason to be optimistic for them from here. South Africa’s batting hasn’t convinced and Steyn and Tahiir apart their bowling looks very sketchy. England’s bowling doesn’t look much better so the chances are this will be a high scoring match but that might just suit England with their batting. Re: ICC World T20 2014 The gods got their own back there :sad. Sunday previews: 4pts A.Haque Over 13.5 runs 8/11 Paddy Power Anamul Haque has been in good form for Bangladesh for a while and he has spoken about needing to be more responsible in his innings and go on and make big scores. One big score he did make recently was against Pakistan when he made a ton against them in the Asia Cup. That showed he can deal with this bowling attack and on what has been an excellent wicket in Dhaka I see no reason why he can’t make 14 runs here. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/bangladesh-vs-pakistan-betting-anamul-haque-can-get-bangladesh-off-to-solid-start 4pts India to beat Australia Evs Betfred Having seen the way Australia have played spin in this tournament so far I am amazed that India are as big as even money in this match. The only concern for India in this match is complacency but there is probably a big advantage winning this group and playing South Africa in the semi final so I don’t expect Dhoni’s men to ease up here. With all the stuff going on back home with the IPL controversy here is a chance for India to get the country going again and I don’t see them making any mistake. Re: ICC World T20 2014 Monday previews: 5pts England vs Netherlands - Over 35.5 boundaries 5/6 William Hill 2009 will mentioned a lot during this game I’m sure but I think England are batting too well for a repeat of that to happen. Both batting line ups are going pretty well so I expect this to be a high scoring game especially with England’s massive issues with the ball. You can get after the Dutch attack although it will need respecting but most of the English players will have played against it in county cricket so I would be surprised if this isn’t high scoring. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/england-vs-netherlands-betting-boundaries-can-be-peppered-in-chittagong 4pts New Zealand Most 6s 11/10 Bet365 There will be plenty of nerves around this match and with the unpredictability of conditions with the dew likely to play a heavy part I’m not going to bet on the match outcome. One bet I do like though is for New Zealand to hit the most sixes. They have crackerjack power right down their batting line up whereas there is more finesse in the Sri Lankans. England showed this Sri Lanka attack can go the distance and I fancy it’ll go the distance more often than New Zealand’s here. Re: ICC World T20 2014 Cheers mate. Tuesday previews: 3pts Bangladesh to beat Australia 4/1 Betfred This looks like Australia’s best chance of a win in this tournament but when you look at how they have played spin so far in this tournament you couldn’t call them bankers by any stretch of the imagination. Bangladesh are sure to provide Australia with another trial by spin in this match and if they don’t cope better with it they are in trouble. Bangladesh will need to bat better but if they do then given what we’ve seen of Australia so far in this tournament the Tigers may just end this tournament in a positive mood. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/bangladesh-vs-australia-betting-bangladesh-can-end-campaign-with-shock-win 4pts Pakistan to beat West Indies 10/11 Betfred This should be a classic match added by the fact it is a knockout match. For me the game boils down to the battle between the West Indies batsmen and the Pakistan spinners. Admittedly Pakistan will still need to score runs but I suspect the West Indies may struggle, especially if they are batting first and it may be that Pakistan are chasing a low total like India were against the West Indies. With that in mind I’m with Pakistan here. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/pakistan-vs-west-indies-betting-pakistan-can-put-the-defending-champions-out

Re: ICC World T20 2014 SF1 preview: 3pts R.Herath Over 1.5 wickets 6/4 Ladbrokes This should be a great semi final. We’ve got the flair of the West Indies against the class and cultural approach of the Sri Lankans. I expect the bowlers to be on top in these conditions and I don’t anticipate a high scoring game with the wicket turning. One man who should enjoy conditions is Rangana Herath. He took five wickets for three runs against New Zealand and bagged a couple of wickets in a warm up match against the West Indies and with the wicket in Dhaka turning more than in Chittagong, Herath should be dangerous here.
