Gydnia Open (ET8)

Recommended Posts

The last of the European PTCs takes place in Poland this weekend with the scramble for places in the grand final up for grabs as well as the bunfight to secure tour cards at the end of the year. For some this is one of the biggest events in a while. The good thing is it is on Eurosport all weekend which should make for a few betting opportunities. Draw, format and schedule all here: http://www.snooker.org/res/index.asp?event=282

Re: Gydnia Open (ET8) Tournament preview: 1pt ew R.Walden to win Gdynia Open 33/1 Boylesports (1/4 1-4) Three quarters of this draw looks quite tough but there is one wide open section of the draw and that is the third quarter. Ricky Walden is the main seed in it and the only other top 16 regular is Marco Fu who has been in no form whatsoever in the last couple of months or so. Dangerous players like Luca Brecel and Michael White are in this section but really and truly if Walden has anything about him, which he does, then he should be looking at making at least the semi final this weekend. At 33/1 with bookies paying four places he looks a good bet to me. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/gydnia-open-betting-ricky-walden-can-land-a-first-title-of-2014-in-poland

Re: Gydnia Open (ET8) Friday previews: 4pts J.Astley to beat F.Patrick 5/6 Ladbrokes You have to say with Patrick having not won too many matches this season and Astley having already beaten him in one of these events the 5/6 on Astley looks a good thing here. He isn’t anything special himself but he’s been getting the odd result here and there and has established himself better than Patrick has. I always like winning momentum in these sprints and that is with Astley, as is my cash. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/astley-vs-patrick-betting-john-astley-can-condemn-patrick-to-another-defeat 4pts T.Pengfei to beat K.Wilson 5/6 Boylesports There’s no doubt about who has the momentum coming into this tournament and that is Tian Pengfei. He has been mixing in good company recently and more than holding his own too. Kyren Wilson’s season has just tailed off since the International Championship and he needs something to kick start it again. I’m not sure he’ll find it here though because Pengfei is scoring very well and should have too much for Wilson here. Re: Gydnia Open (ET8) Saturday previews: 4pts D.Dale to beat D.Poomjaeng 5/6 Ladbrokes Dominic Dale’s confidence should be sky high coming into this weekend and he’s a decent traveller so we shouldn’t have too much doubt that he’ll perform well. Poomjaeng hasn’t really performed well for a while and even his win over Carter in the German Masters was shrouded in controversy and even then Carter didn’t play very well. Dale has the incentive to set up a match with Mark Williams so he’ll give this everything and I expect him to win here. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/dale-vs-poomjaeng-betting-dominic-dale-can-build-on-recent-run-in-poland 3pts L.Wenbo to beat M.Williams 11/8 Stan James At strong odds against Liang Wenbo is decent value in this match. Williams retains all of his competence and is never beaten easily but he can be prone against attacking players because his own long game isn’t quite what it was so he can leave them with chances. Wenbo is a heavy scorer when he’s going well and at 11/8 he looks a decent bet in this first round match. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/m-williams-vs-wenbo-betting-liang-wenbo-can-pull-off-a-surprise-in-poland-opener 4pts G.Greene to beat A.Zhang 4/5 Winner Sports Gerard Greene beat Anda Zhang 5-0 in the qualifying for the World Open at the end of 2013 and while this may not be as emphatic as that I do still think he is worth backing again here. This match seems to be priced up on the relative form of last season whereas both are performing completely differently this season so with Greene back to the form we know he can produce I like him at 4/5 here. Re: Gydnia Open (ET8) Sunday preview: 4pts S.Maguire to beat J.Higgins 5/6 Paddy Power Stephen Maguire has won the last five meetings between these two and I see no reason why he can’t make it six in a row here. He is clearly playing good snooker and seems to be inspired when he plays Higgins, perhaps as it is someone he looks up to. Higgins did well to battle through the opening day but battle is the operative word. Maguire is making it look easy at the minute and can win this.
