The Australian domestic T20 tournament kicks off on Friday morning UK time with the whole event live on Sky in the UK and Channel Ten I believe down under. One of the best of the T20 competitions is this one and there's plenty of English players involved in it too to give us a bit more of a feel for the event. Schedule: [TABLE=width: 630]

Re: Big Bash League 2013/14 Tournament preview: 1pt ew Sydney Thunder to win Big Bash League 8/1 Bet365 (1/2 1-2) The Thunder were awful last season but it is hard not to be impressed with their signings and they have to go better this season. This competition has the potential to crash at the hands of Ajantha Mendis and if Dirk Nannes can blow some top orders away too the Thunder may not need too many runs to win matches. With Michael Hussey on board and quality T20 performers in Dilshan, Morgan, Warner and Khawaja available at times I not only think the Thunder will be better this season but they are my idea of champions. Re: Big Bash League 2013/14 Excellent preview, Kev :ok I had a look at the squads last night and thought the Thunder were definitely the value as well, so that write-up reinforces my confidence. They'll likely not have their best XI out in any one game, but there's no way they should be the outsiders of the eight - definitely couldn't understand that. I reckon they should be 5/1 tops Also, if anybody is having an e/w bet you should definitely do it with Bet365 who are offering 1/2 the odds 1-2 whereas the other few bookies I looked for prices at were all going 1/3 the odds 1-2

Re: Big Bash League 2013/14 Cheers mate. Certainly a few sides worse off with international call ups than the Thunder. Can't understand their price at all. To finish bottom preview: 1pt Hobart Hurricanes to finish bottom 7/1 Paddy Power Another side who will be missing a key batsman for the majority of the tournament are the Hobart Hurricanes. They have added Shoaib Malik and Dimitri Mascarenhas to their side but they could really have done with another season of Ricky Ponting with George Bailey now a fixture for Australia in all three formats of the game. Xavier Doherty could well miss a chunk of the event too with Australia and with a squad which lacks a bit in genuine depth I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see the men from Tasmania finish last this season. Re: Big Bash League 2013/14 Top Tournament Batsman preview: 2pts A.Hales Top Tournament Batsman 16/1 Skybet (1/5 1-3) Alex Hales is the number one ranked T20 batsman in the world and that is with good reason as he is a fearless hitter who hits a clean ball and when he connects he hits it a long way. Apart from Adelaide not being one of the favourites for this tournament the Nottinghamshire man has plenty going for him in this tournament. We saw what he did to the Sydney Sixers last year and a few more innings like that will be perfect. He plays for Adelaide so four of his matches are going to be on those tiny square boundaries at the Adelaide Oval and given that he’s only in England’s T20 squad he should play the entire group stage. At 16/1 he looks an excellent bet to top score in this tournament. 1pt ew U.Khawaja Top Tournament Batsman 28/1 Stan James (1/5 1-3) Not many batsmen go into this event in better form than Usman Khawaja. In the 50 over competition this season he has hit four 50s and a century in just six matches and only Dave Warner has scored more runs than him. Khawaja warmed up for this tournament by walloping 93 in a warm up match and playing at ANZ Stadium for his home games he is on a small ground where runs should be scored. I’ve already said I think the Thunder will go well this season and Khawaja’s runs can be a big feature of their run this season. Re: Big Bash League 2013/14 Game one preview: 3pts Melbourne Renegades to beat Melbourne Stars 13/10 Bet365 The absence of Faulkner and Malinga could well play into the hands of the Renegades here and I think they are good value to win this match. The Renegades can fight fire with fire with the Stars with the bat and their plethora of spinners could just put the squeeze on enough to get the job done here. The Stars rarely look the same side without Malinga so I’ll take a chance they struggle without him again. Re: Big Bash League 2013/14 One other outright before we get going. Will look at other team markets in the days to come. 2pts C.White Top Melbourne Stars Tournament Batsman 4/1 Bet365 Cameron White has been in excellent form in the Ryobi Cup this season and we saw him go very well in Northamptonshire's winning T20 effort over here in the summer so he is clearly in good touch at the minute and with one or two of his teammates in line for an Australian call up and another couple a bit hit and miss I think the former Australia captain looks a good price here. White will bat fairly high up the order which is always a good thing and he's capable of tonking both seam and spin, as we saw in that T20 final at Edgbaston. White has five half centuries in six matches in the Ryobi Cup so the cricket ball must feel the size of a beach ball to him. He captains the Stars so he'll want to lead by example and he can by being the Stars' top runscorer over the course of the tournament.

Re: Big Bash League 2013/14 Game 2 preview: 4pts Over 32.5 boundaries 5/6 William Hill I think we’ll see a high scoring game here. The SCG has undergone some renovation work and with that the boundaries aren’t as big as they’ve always been. Neither side rely on a barrage of spinners to slow the pace down in the middle overs so there should be plenty of boundaries throughout the match whether they are sixes or fours. Both sides have plenty of batting depth and plenty of big hitters so I expect to see at least 33 boundaries in this one. Re: Big Bash League 2013/14 Sunday previews: 4pts Hobart Hurricanes vs Adelaide Strikers - Over 10.5 sixes 5/6 Paddy Power This should be a really good game on what is usually a good wicket at Hobart. I expect the big hits to keep on coming here because both sides have some huge hitters of a cricket ball. Alex Hales clears most boundaries in this format of the game but the likes of Bailey, Birt, Shah, Reardon, Klinger and Paine can all smoke a long ball too. We’ve seen the boundaries in during this tournament so far so expect to see at least 11 sixes here. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/hobart-hurricanes-vs-adelaide-strikers-betting-expect-to-see-the-big-shots-flow-at-blundstone 4pts Brisbane Heat to beat Perth Scorchers 10/11 Skybet We saw in the Champions League that the Scorchers bowling attack can get clattered and the Heat have the sort of batting line up that can do the clattering. Perth looked a batsman light in the competition to me last year and that’s certainly the case in this match so I believe the Heat are good things here and should be good deal shorter than the 10/11 they are at the minute. Heat for me. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/brisbane-heat-vs-perth-scorchers-betting-brisbane-can-win-the-repeat-of-last-year-s-final

Re: Big Bash League 2013/14 Boxing Day preview: 4pts Melbourne Renegades to beat Perth Scorchers 11/10 Ladbrokes This is one of those age old T20 battles between a strong batting line up and a fairly strong bowling attack. The Renegades have a long batting line up with the likes of Finch, Rohrer, Cooper and Buttler in it while the Scorchers edge the bowling ranks with Arafat, Thomas, Beer and Hogg at their disposal. With Voges out, if Shaun Marsh doesn’t fire the Scorchers could be shot out cheaply so I like the Renegades here. They have enough in their attack to restrict Perth and better them with the bat. Re: Big Bash League 2013/14 Friday preview: 5pts Adelaide Most 6s vs Sydney Thunder 10/11 Paddy Power The Thunder are on a ridiculous 14 loss run but that will end soon. I’m not one for backing the result at ANZ because the boundaries are ridiculously short straight and the ground is often hard to defend in the second innings. One bet I do like is for the Strikers to hit the most sixes. We saw how the Thunder bowlers can go in the game at the SCG and there’s no Warner to hit sixes for them here. Richardson and Tait should bowl eight near banker overs where sixes won’t be hit so expect this big hitting Strikers side hit the most sixes here. Are they having a laugh? Failing to chase down 117? You've got to be kidding me. I hate seeing good bets lose to nonsense like that. Completely unprofessional display.

Re: Big Bash League 2013/14 Saturday preview: 4pts C.Kieswetter's Performance Pts - 35&Over 5/6 Bet365 Craig Kieswetter didn’t impress with the bat in the first match for the Heat but he’s a lot better than that and having settled into life in Australia I think we’ll see better from him here. He has a performance target of 35pts which is well within his reach because this is a ground where keepers could get catches in this format of the game and he has two decent spinners to keep to. He also has every chance with the bat alone so I like the overs here. Re: Big Bash League 2013/14 Sunday preview: 4pts Over 34.5 boundaries 5/6 William Hill The Stars look good things in this match but it is never wise to take short prices in this format of the game, particularly against a side with the potential to be dangerous like the Sixers. One thing we should be guaranteed here are plenty of runs and with that should come a lot of boundaries. Both sides have some real big hitters in their ranks and with a test match in Sydney in less than a week’s time I doubt this wicket will be in the middle of the square so there should be a short boundary which can be peppered nicely in this one. Re: Big Bash League 2013/14 Monday preview: 4pts Brisbane Heat to beat Melbourne Renegades 8/11 Betfred I like Brisbane here. I think they have an excellent batting line up and it is hard to see their bowlers getting flogged again in this match given that the Renegades are having all sorts of problems with the bat at the minute. Admittedly the Renegades should go better in their own stadium but they need a major improvement on what we’ve seen so far. I can’t see it so I’ll take the Heat in this one. Re: Big Bash League 2013/14 Tuesday preview: 4pts Adelaide Strikers vs Perth Scorchers - Over 9.5 6s 5/6 William Hill We saw in the recent Test match at the Adelaide Oval that the square boundaries are incredibly short. There were 21 6s in that Test match in total which only goes to emphasise both how short the boundaries are here and how accessible they are too. These two sides have enough firepower to clear these ropes. They both have a share of left and right handers so the square boundaries will always been available so I believe we’ll see plenty more than 9.5 sixes here. Re: Big Bash League 2013/14 New Year's Day previews: 4pts Hobart Hurricanes vs Melbourne Renegades - Over 8.5 sixes 5/6 William Hill This is a day game so conditions aren’t likely to change over the course of the 40 overs so with that in mind I like the idea of seeing a few sixes in this match. Both sides have batsmen who can clear the ropes at will as we’ve seen in their last match while both sides also have bowlers who can be clobbered as we’ve also seen. The only previous match here had a short boundary and with ODIs coming up this one could too so I think the sixes line will be covered in this one. I’m no fan of taking short prices in this format least of all against a side which contains Dilshan, Hussey and Morgan. One bet I do like is for there to be more than 9.5 sixes. This Stars line up has so far hit 14 sixes and six sixes in their two matches on much bigger grounds than this one. The Thunder hit the likes of Tait and Richardson for five in their last match so this looks a perfectly achievable total on such a small ground. Big Bash Match odds and betting Sydney Sixers vs Brisbane Heats The Brisbane heats are 1.66 favorite prematch (You get 66 cents for a one dollar bet ).Their batting seems really solid , Kieswetter, Burns, Christian, Cutting and Lynn have all shown explosive form in the past couple of games. However Pomersbach needs to go down the order. Its just criminal if your opener is scoring 21 of 30, with the likes of Cutting yet to come. The match is at Brisbane,a ground which has seen a 400 plus match with Brisbane being at the losing end. They will definitely be looking to change that. I expect Brisbane to post a total of at least 185, it wont surprise me if they cross the 200 mark too if batting first. And if they are chasing, a 200 plus chase is on too. In any case I don't see the Sixers breaking the 200 barrier. They just haven't looked like a unit capable of achieving that. If the Heats bat first,it would be best to place your bets on them right then itself because they will probably be 1.40 favorite (40 cents for one dollar) by the end of their innings. However if the Sixers bat first one could wait and hope they can post a decent total in the range of 165 to 180. That would give a rate of 1.80-1.90 on Heats (80-90 cents for one dollar) . And then you could place your bets on them. The match is in 13 hours.

Re: Big Bash League 2013/14 Thursday preview: 4pts Sydney Sixers to beat Brisbane Heat 5/4 William Hill I think the Sixers are worth a poke in this match. They have an attack which can keep the Heat batsmen honest and they have some of the best batsmen in the competition to go hard at this struggling Heat bowling attack. I think it will be a high scoring match but the Sixers attack looks slightly better in the potential of saving runs so at 5/4 I’ll take the former champions to beat the current ones. Re: Big Bash Match odds and betting Brisbane vs Sydney Analysis Well that definitely didn't go according to plan. I still feel it was the Heats game to win all along. They just threw it away. To restrict the Sixers to 140 was an additional bonus and it should have been a cakewalk from there. 7 per over in 20 20 is pretty easy. Reckless batting from the top order , new addition of Jk lalor and yet again holding Cutting back till the last over. Why on earth would you send Sabburg before cutting is beyond me. He has shown what he is capable of ( 40 of 19 against the renegades ). Its impossible to make an impact if you are given just six balls. But he still almost got them home. Very disappointing show from the Heats. I was considering betting on them to get to the finals, but that seems highly unlikely now. Perth vs Thunders tomorrow.

Re: Big Bash League 2013/14 Perth vs Thunders I think this one is going be pretty tight. The match is at Perth. The only other match played at this venue saw Perth stumble to a meagerly 117 and then restrict the Renegades to 111. I think we are looking at a low scoring game. The scorchers have a really good bowling attack and in their own backyard they have looked solid. It will all come down once again to Hussey and Morgan. If the scorchers can get their scalps cheaply it could be curtains for the Thunders. However a score of even 135 to 150 can be defended by the thunders. They have a decent bowling line up in Dirk, Coyte and Sandhu . Thunders have shown lot of potential but they are just not being able to get past the finish line. Call it fate( Zing bails incident) or bad decisions (Dilshan over). I still feel then can make an impact on the tournament. Especially if Khwaja or Warner are available for the latter matches. They just need a little rub of the green. The scorchers are 1.70 favorite. I will wait for the first ten overs to be bowled either ways before placing my bets. This match could see a lot of drastic swings. Best case scenario would be scorchers batting first and posting around 150. You would get really good odds on the Thunders then. I think after the unlucky 13 , this could be their game. I really hope it is, heartbreaking to see Mr Cricket play some many great knocks in vain.

Re: Big Bash League 2013/14 Friday preview: 4pts Sydney Thunder to beat Perth Scorchers 6/4 Betfred The Scorchers haven’t really convinced me all competition whereas while they haven’t got over the line yet the Thunder have played well in all their matches but have just been on the wrong side of the big moments. They suffered some cruel luck in their last match against the Stars and 9 times out of 10 they’d have beaten the Strikers so a win isn’t far away for Hussey’s men. With Dilshan now in place and Morgan wanting to go out with a bang I’ll take the visitors at 6/4 here. Re: Big Bash League 2013/14 Saturday preview: 4pts A.Finch's Performance Pts - 30&Over 5/6 Bet365 Aaron Finch seems to revel in the Melbourne derbies and I see no reason why he won’t go well again in this match. Last season Finch scored 111 and 67 against the Stars and he began this season with 32. His last two matches have seen him score 81 and 50 and with him likely to bowl a couple of overs on this wicket too I think a performance line of 30 is well within reach for the Renegades captain. Re: Big Bash League 2013/14 Sunday preview: 4pts Adelaide vs Sydney Sixers - Over 32.5 boundaries 5/6 William Hill Both these sides have good batting line ups and both have a couple of bowlers who can be attacked and on these short boundaries I think the ropes can be peppered in this match. The square boundaries here are very short and that should play nicely into the hands of the likes of Nic Maddinson and Michael Lumb not to mention the Strikers batting line up, a line up which is stronger with Shakib in it so I like over 32.5 boundaries here. Re: Big Bash League 2013/14 Tuesday preview: 4pts Perth Scorchers to beat Hobart Hurricanes Evs Bet365 I like the Scorchers here and I’m surprised they are not favourites. The problem they’ve had in the recent Champions League and the early stages of this tournament was absent batsmen but with Voges now back fit and with Coulter-Nile there to come in and elevate a total at the death their batting line up suddenly looks a lot longer and stronger. The Scorchers bowling has always been good and with their WACA record as it is this season I think the Orange nation can win this one.
