Re: Bowles' flat racing bets Not much in the way of turf action today, but looking at the 3.00 race at Southwell interests me. This is an Amateurs claiming race in which COURT OF APPEAL runs off a mark of 90 & would have to carry far more weight if this was a proper handicap. It's nearest challenger is BARKING MAD off 82. My worry is the jockey that Ellison has put up - C LIdster (only 2 rides in public to date). Barking Mad is ridden by Nina Carberry so we know she can ride a race. The other interest is BOLLIN THOMAS whom races off 76 & to be fair is a better dual purpose horse than all of these. Has a rating of above 100 over hurdles but last flat win came 2 yrs ago off rating of 75. Sally Brotherton rides & again she is far more accomplished than Mr Lidster. The forecast prices are 5/2 Barking Mad, 11/4 Court Of Appeal, 12/1 Bollin Thomas. I'll be having : 10pts win on Court of Appeal (despite the jockey booking but Ellison's horses are in great form). 5pts ew on Bollin Thomas @ 12/1 Sporting odds 20pts staked

Re: Bowles' flat racing bets need to get this back on track, too many losers recently: Newmarket today does not have the quality the other days will have & therefore there may be a few good uns to be had against weaker opposition. 1.45 Newm Signatory 10pts win @ 7/2 Sp odds Gosdens record to date this year is 37.5% with 6 winners from 16 horses. This horse has the relevant entries & owner paid a fortune for it, therefore I would expect it to be on the ball today. Not sure how the odds will go, but only Sp odds price it up at the moment & i think thats a fair price. 2.55 Newm Museeb 10pts win @ 6/4 Sp odds won easily at Doncaster & has a 2000 guines entry. Not much to beat & the racecourse experience would have helped. I liked the way it quickened up last time on dead ground at Donny & today's faster ground will help. 3.25 Newm Uhoomagoo 5pts ew @ 10/1 Bet365 pulled out of the lincoln, i assume due to the softer ground, will have the fast ground it desires today. Won easily on the AW in March & I would expect a good showing today over 7f. 4.00 Newm Cashier 10pts win @ SP looking for a gosden/dettori double with this one today. Again, not much to beat but not much form to go on. Hopefully,the horse is fit & raring to go. Hoping that if Signatory wins the first, this should be good enough. 5.10 Ingleton 5pts ew @ 13/2 Sp odds Has C/D form from last year, seemed to act on any ground & is 5lbs lower than winning nursery handicap here last october. formerly with Brian McMahon, now with Gary Moore. I have Cape Columbine to watch in the Neil Gwyn as i have an ante post tip on that one already posted. Big Bad Bob will need to run it's race & can lead from the front in this, likes to have the race ran his way, & Norse Dancer has to come off the pace, if BBB can get far enough in front, he will be holding off all challengers. Dune Melody, The Lord & Fonthill Road are all selected due to the draw bias at Beverely over 5f. You have to be drawn high unless the ground is heavy, with good ground today, these are well drawn & the price on fonthill road was attractive. Melvino & Sweet Potato represent Barron's stable who has a good record here. The trainer has has only 1 win from 13 turf starts this season but 7 places, therefore i feel his horses are thereabouts & due to come good. His record at Bev is 13 wins from 81 starts over his career & 3 from 14 last season (6 places). Good luck:ok

The layers have not really priced up to this effect, & I am hopeful that I have nicked some nice prices on the horses selected above.

They meet today & i just give the value bet to Zero at the price in front of New seeker. Zero has a better draw in the high numbers & favours the ground conditions. i dont think New seeker will be too far away with also El Coto in the placings. 5pts ew 4.20 Newb ALMIZAN @ 18/1 Hills. I saw this run at Donny 2 weeks ago over a longer trip 21/4m, that day it was up with the pace throughout & faded in the last 2 furlongs. 9th place didnt really matter as the jockey just gave the horse an easy finish. Now i see Channon has moved the horse back to 1m 5f, i am certain he is convinced that the horse will love the shorter trip. He is well weighted in this company & the price is very attractive. 5pts ew 4.50 Newb MOHAWK STAR @ 14/1 Hills. Today, will be looking at windsor tonight to find a couple hopefully, but the 3.10 at Pont is an interesting race. From what i can gather on the draw, it favours high numbers on Good or better ground, however when it comes up soft, the low numbers get into the race. i'll take an ew bet on this one out of stall one. Re: Bowles' flat racing bets one tonight: 6.20 Windsor BANKNOTE 5pts ew @ 16/1 Tote Andrew balding had a winner at Thirsk on Saturday with pentecost, I do like to follow Dwyer's mounts for Balding as he is now such a good jockey. this horse by Zafonic should appreciate the cut in the ground. Ran 4 times as a 2yo winning a maiden over 7f. Stepped up to a mile on last start off 79 in its first handicap finished down the field. 1st time out today in an open race, should be able to give a good account off a rating of 61. of the other Jazrawy would be interesting but you need to wait until Cumani hits form.

Today, trying to weed out the very poor racing on show: In the 4.30 at Southwell (on turf) POLAR MAGIC stands out for me. Trained by James fanshawe who has a great record at the track with nearly 30% of winners from rides. The horse was only raced 3 times at 2 & won 2 of those finishing 2nd in another. Lots of question marks over the others including Digital who does not seem to find anything off this mark & may need to come down a few more pounds. Unfortunately, the price on the selection is not ideal being around 7/4 mark. I'll leave it at SP & have 10pts win. Others today are: 2.00 Southw Whitethorne 5pts ew @ SP (trained by Fahey & his only raider here today, in form trainer to follow). 5.15 Folks Amnesty 10pts win @ SP. (to deny Duelling banjo's the hat trick of wins, 6lb better off for 3l defeat over C/D last time out). 30pts staked

Winner came from stall 1. Amnesty limped into 4th. Again, i was blinded by the fact that the favourite was drifting this morning & Amnesty was punted on to overturn the previous outing on 6lb better terms. However Duelling Banjo's obviously loves it round Folkstone & won easily @ 9/4. 25pts returned

Re: Bowles' flat racing bets Wednesdays selections are: Epsom 1.50 these sprint handicaps normally are affected by the draw & high numbers should figure here with the rail being the best position on the track. If the pace is on the outside, this may play into the hands of Fast heart who drawn in 12 of 12, can come from off the pace down the rail if the gaps appear which on this undulating track, they sometimes do. At 14/1 with ladbrokes, it represents good ew bet. 5pts ew @ 14/1 Epsom 3.05 i may be missing something here but 20/1 about Tender Falcon is just too big to ignore. Epsom 3.05 i may be missing something here but 20/1 about Tender Falcon is just too big to ignore. Won the Amateur derby last year over C/D, has Sam Hitchcott up today & has good form on undulating tracks. Can be ridden up with the pace & has the finishing kick to get ahead of these rivals. Needs Good ground so hopefully the drying conditions will remain all day today. 5pts ew @ 20/1 Sp odds

Re: Bowles' flat racing bets Thursday's selections (no 20/1 winners today though!) Bev 2.50 Elidore has attracted my interest here. Raced in Group 3 & listed company as 2yo without setting the world alight. Was given a rating of 96 for its last run as a 2yo. Its 3yo career consisted only of 4 runs in handicaps off 95, 92, 90 & 84 with best effort being 3rd in a conditions race. Last season it had 11 runs, the best of which when finishing 2nd to Compton Drake (btn nk) off 64. it has the benefit of a recent run 5th behind Duelling Banjos 3 weeks ago. Today it runs off career lowest mark of 60. The main worry i have is the trip which is just short of 1m 2f, the horse has only won over 6/7f & seems to lead but then weaken. I can only imagine as there is money for the horse today that a new tactic may be used & Seb Sanders has been booked to ride the horse for the 1st time. I'll take a chance at 14/1 with UK betting (as low as 10's elsewhere) 5pts ew Just looking at the evening racing so may add one or 2 during the day.
