The penultimate PDC event of the year takes place this weekend with the Players Championship finals from Minehead. Unlike usual events the seedings for this is done on the Players Championship Order of Merit so we've got some interesting first round matches and potential second round matches. Re: Players Championship Finals - 29 Nov - 1 Dec Tournament preview: 1pt ew J.Wade to win Players Championship Finals 20/1 William Hill (1/2 1-2) The top half of the draw is dominated by Michael van Gerwen and Adrian Lewis and they are scheduled to meet in a potential second round cracker but one man who could well go under the radar in that section of the draw is James Wade. You can look at Wade’s results this year and think he has underachieved but he’s been very consistent even though he hasn’t always been at 100%. He has played in 25 tournaments this year and made the quarter final or better in 11 of them. If you was being harsh you could argue he hasn’t made a final but in each of the last four televised tournaments he has lost in either the semi finals or in the case of the Grand Slam the quarter finals, each time to Phil Taylor so he hasn’t done a lot wrong. He won’t meet Taylor until the final this weekend and given that he seemed in such a good place and a good weekend might mean more to him going forward than some others I think Wade is well worth taking at 20/1. Re: Players Championship Finals - 29 Nov - 1 Dec 2nd quarter preview: 1pt T.Jenkins to win 2nd Quarter 9/1 Betfred The other half of the quarter sees Huybrechts taking on Terry Jenkins and John Part facing Ian White. From there I would expect the winner of the Huybrechts vs Jenkins match to make at least the quarter final so I must admit I like the 9/1 on Jenkins to win the quarter. He made the semi final of the final Players Championship event last weekend so he’s in good touch and he has a 6-1 H2H record against Huybrechts so if he comes through that the 9/1 on him winning two more matches would look very nice indeed. I think the fact he only lives down the road will sit well with him and it can be no surprise that he made the semi final here last year with that in mind. Simon Whitlock is developing a habit of missing some crucial doubles not to mention his failure to hold onto leads. Neither is a good thing over a short distance so I’m with Pipe here. King is like a dog with a bone in these lesser events, he’s been a runner up in it before and can make the second round here. He has looked a bit jaded for the last couple of TV tournaments and hasn’t been scoring as heavily as we expect him to. He’ll need to here though because Dolan’s in superb form and at 13/8 the Irishman is well worth taking in this one given the form he’s in and the confidence he should have. Ian White doesn’t give off the impression that he’ll wilt anytime soon while Andy Hamilton is slowly improving as the tournament goes on so I would be very surprised if we don’t see at least 15 legs here and it is unlikely either will win a match of this magnitude by more than one break of throw.
