Two days after the excellent Champion of Champions has finished the second biggest tournament of the year gets underway when the UK Championship begins in York on Tuesday. The tournament is live in full on the BBC from Saturday but the first round is streamed in the usual places before then and there are some decent matches. All matches are best of 11 or longer so this should be another good tournament. Draw, schedule and format here: http://www.snooker.org/res/index.asp?event=281

Re: UK Championship - 26 Nov - 8 Dec Tournament preview: 1pt ew S.Bingham to win UK Championship 33/1 Betfred (1/2 1-2) One man who thrived in those surroundings was Stuart Bingham and there’s no reason why he shouldn’t go well this week too. Bingham hasn’t got the worst draw although he is in the same quarter as Ronnie O’Sullivan but he has pushed him hard in their last two meetings so he clearly doesn’t fear him. Bingham is a big time player now who is due for a really big run in one of these big major ranking events and with the confidence of last week behind him that could well be here. 1pt ew B.Hawkins to win UK Championship 40/1 Ladbrokes (1/2 1-2) Barry Hawkins has found himself in a lovely part of the draw and the world finalist should go well here. He showed in Sheffield that he gets on well with the longer matches and with Shaun Murphy the only top 16 player he will face prior to the quarter final I would expect Hawkins to go strongly in this event. Even Mark Selby isn’t unbeatable should the seedings work out and they meet in the quarter final so Hawkins is my pick to come through a more open looking top half. Re: UK Championship - 26 Nov - 8 Dec my bet is going to winner from England for 1,75 @ boylesports Trump, Selby and O´Sullivan are in great form and first two won UK in last years. Selby is in very weak quarter when he face strong name just at the quarterfinal, Judd Trump biggest test will be Ding Junhui in QF too and O´Sullivan can destroy any player of tournament tree if he want. Robertson has awful draw with Mehta, Perry, Gilbert and Mark Davis in his selection so he is probably off from chances and scots Higgins and Maguire will met each other and they are in O´Sullivan half. So I see nice value on this bet, where named players has good draw and in addition Bingham, Hawkins or Carter arent without chances too.

Re: UK Championship - 26 Nov - 8 Dec Highest break preview: 1pt ew N.Robertson to make highest break 14/1 Bet365 (1/4 1-4) Nobody has hit more centuries this season than Neil Robertson and at 14/1 he has to have every chance this week. Robertson should go deep this week as he has done in most tournaments this season and we know he’s in good scoring form as he made six centuries in the 15 frames he won in the Champion of Champions last week. He seems to enjoy the longer matches and given he played last week rustiness won’t be an issue. At 14/1 it is worth paying to see how high Robertson can score. Re: UK Championship - 26 Nov - 8 Dec Tuesday afternoon previews: 3pts V.Calabrese to beat D.Dale 15/8 Boylesports Dale is in no form whatsoever at the minute and while his opponent hasn’t won a lot of games this season he does at least hold a win over Mark Selby on his record so he must be able to play a bit. Being where Calabrese is in the rankings he is going to be facing top players in the first round of most events but that isn’t the case here and given the slump the Welshman is in it could be worth siding with the Australian to pull off a surprise here. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/dale-vs-calabrese-betting-dominic-dale-looks-ripe-for-an-upset-in-uk-opener 4pts T.Ford (-2.5 frames) to beat N.Saengkham 11/10 Bet365 Although he hasn’t set the world alight this season I expect Tom Ford to be too strong for his Thai opponent in this match. He scores so heavily but he has improved his safety game enough that he should dominate an out of form opponent who has only won eight frames in his last five matches – all of which he’s lost. Ford’s better than that and he can come through here with plenty in hand. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/ford-vs-saengkham-betting-ford-can-cruise-into-the-second-round-of-the-uk

Re: UK Championship - 26 Nov - 8 Dec First Round. Jack Lisowski @ 1/3 bet365 (to beat Michael Leslie) Only one previous meeting and Lisowski won it 4-2. Jack is a very talented player, and has been getting into the last 32/16 of the last few events. So he knows how to get through these early rounds. Ben Woolaston @ 2/5 bet365 (to beat Stuart Carrington) Woolaston won their only meeting 4-1, and in the Wuxi a few months back he got to the Last 16 after 3 wins and performing relatively well. This year he's had some good results, beat White, Yupeng, and the main man O'Sullivan. Ali Carter -3.5 Frames @ 6/5 bet365 (to beat Ratchayothin Yotharuck) Ali Carter is a great player, and was a semi-finalist here last year and would love to go one better and make the Final. Looking through his opponents results (never heard of him) he has been beaten by the likes of Mike Dunn, Mitchell Travis, Micheal Wasley, Anthony Hamilton, Sam Baird, Joe Swail and more. So Ali Carter should have far too much for him here.

Re: UK Championship - 26 Nov - 8 Dec Thursday previews: 4pts D.Morris to beat J.Cope 10/11 Betfred Initially I wondered if Morris was cut out to be the favourite in this match but his results this season suggest that he is. To beat Trump, Bingham and Walden even in PTC events takes some doing and you have to have a good all round game to beat one of the three let alone all three. Cope has never had a good all round game and given that his form is non existent and has been for a while I’ll take him on with Morris here. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/cope-vs-morris-betting-david-morris-can-keep-the-misery-piled-up-on-jamie-cope 4pts D.Harold (-1.5 frames) to beat C.Zhe 10/11 Bet365 Dave Harold is never an easy player to play because he isn’t someone who’ll take liberties. He takes what is there and then ties his opponent up when he falls down. That means you have to get in from distance against him and score heavily and Zhe hasn’t been doing that this season. He’s only made one century all season which isn’t the sign of someone going well. Harold should have too much for him here. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/harold-vs-zhe-betting-dave-harold-can-prove-too-strong-for-his-chinese-opponent 4pts T.Un-Nooh to beat D.Poomjaeng 10/11 William Hill When these two play their best snooker I think Un-Nooh is the better player and that’s encouraging as I don’t believe Poomjaeng is playing anywhere near his best this season. If this match was in the main arena then maybe the crowd and bright lights would inspire him like they did at the Crucible last season but it isn’t so with that in mind I’m happy to side with the more in form Un-Nooh. Re: UK Championship - 26 Nov - 8 Dec Friday previews: 4pts S.Donaldson to beat M.Selt 10/11 William Hill I always want winning momentum in the early stages of these events and that is with Donaldson in this match. Selt is having a wretched season and while he can play the game his confidence must be low and so if he goes behind in this game you wonder how he’ll recover. Donaldson has played well all season and just because the format has extended there’s nothing to suggest he won’t play well and win here. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/selt-vs-donaldson-betting-scott-donaldson-can-get-the-better-of-selt-once-again 4pts A.Mehta vs R.Williams - Over 9.5 frames 11/10 Paddy Power I think we’ll see a close match between these two. Both are in good nick and as their ranking would suggest both are pretty evenly matched. Both men have had deep runs in major tournaments in recent times so both will know what it takes to come through this first round encounter and whoever wins it I fully expect them to have played at least 10 frames before they win. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/mehta-vs-williams-betting-two-form-horses-can-play-a-tight-first-round-game-in-york 4pts M.Dunn to beat L.Brecel 11/10 Ladbrokes I like Mike Dunn here at odds against. Brecel is a talented kid, there’s no doubt that, but he isn’t the finished article yet and so Dunn has the tools to get at him. He’s old school in that he doesn’t push the boat out but put him among the balls and he can put big breaks together. Dunn just looks overpriced to me in this one. Re: UK Championship - 26 Nov - 8 Dec Saturday previews: 4pts R.O'Sullivan (-4.5 frames) to beat R.Clark 6/5 Ladbrokes It is good to see new faces on TV but it will be the old face which wins this match. The question is how many will it be by and I think the answer to that will be by more than 4.5 frames. O’Sullivan was scoring well in Coventry last week and is used to the fast conditions. Clark has to get used to all the sideshows like cameras, lights, big crowds etc and that is hard enough without playing O’Sullivan. It’ll be a good experience for him but I don’t see him winning more than a frame here. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/o-sullivan-vs-clark-betting-ronnie-o-sullivan-can-cruise-past-the-amateur-in-uk-opener 4pts N.Robertson to beat D.Mitchell 6/5 Ladbrokes Just like the O’Sullivan game earlier in the day this should be a case of how easily Robertson wins this match. He has developed a ruthless streak this season and that comes from scoring heavily, so heavily that his opponent – no matter who they are, get few chances to impact on the match. I expect no different here so I’m happy to take the odds against on Robertson winning without conceding more than a frame. Re: UK Championship - 26 Nov - 8 Dec Sunday previews: 3pts M.Allen (-2.5 frames) to beat D.Harold 5/6 Coral Dave Harold isn’t easy to beat but he is susceptible to heavy scorers and Mark Allen is one of those. Allen has the safety game to get chances and when he gets them he is more than good enough to take advantage and win the frames in one go. Harold will feed on any scraps that are going but I don’t think he’ll see enough scraps to win more than three frames in this one. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/allen-vs-harold-betting-mark-allen-can-have-too-much-for-dave-harold-in-york 4pts J.Trump vs D.Poomjaeng - Over 8.5 frames 8/11 Paddy Power Clearly it would be a massive surprise if Judd Trump doesn’t win this match but I don’t think he’ll win it too easily. He dropped two frames to the amateur Gareth Green in the first round and we know Poomjaeng can score well enough to take any chances he is given in this match. He can frustrate opponents too so although I expect Trump to come through we may need to see at least nine frames, if not more, before he does. Re: UK Championship - 26 Nov - 8 Dec Monday afternoon previews: 3pts N.Robertson (-3.5 frames) to beat R.Williams 6/5 Paddy Power Robbie Williams is an improving player capable of beating most in or around his ranking but when he goes up against the elite he seems to be found wanting a little bit and that says to me this should be another big win for Neil Robertson. Robertson is in great form at the minute and he is giving little away to his opponent. Williams might get the odd crumb to feed on here but not much more. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/robertson-vs-r-williams-betting-neil-robertson-can-enjoy-another-comfortable-win-in-york 3pts T.Pengfei (+2.5 frames) to beat M.Selby 5/4 Coral Selby is starting to play better but these longer games don’t always suit him because he is so defensive. I think he’ll win this match but I wouldn’t be surprised if he is taken deep again and long term in this tournament that isn’t going to help him. Pengfei put some nice breaks together in the first round and if he does that here he has the talent to net four frames if not six. Re: UK Championship - 26 Nov - 8 Dec Monday evening previews: 6pts R.O'Sullivan (-3.5 frames) to beat A.Duffy 8/11 Coral Initially I was going to be happy to take O’Sullivan on a 4.5 frame handicap which is what I expected the line to be but then I saw Coral have gone 8/11 on him -3.5 and that’s a much better equation for me. O’Sullivan is scoring well enough to mop up the chances he’s given while there will be frames he gets in early and gives Duffy no chance. I’d be very surprised if Duffy takes three frames here. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/duffy-vs-o-sullivan-betting-ronnie-can-cruise-into-the-last-32-with-plenty-in-hand 4pts X.Guodong (+2.5 frames) to beat J.Trump Evs Stan James Two of the best young breakbuilders in the game go at it here and I think Guodong has every chance of an upset. He is in good touch and fears nobody and has actually won his last two meetings against Trump. Trump has mentioned how he’s going to go on the attack a bit more and if he does that here and he doesn’t get what he goes for he could leave himself open to a long night. Re: UK Championship - 26 Nov - 8 Dec Tuesday afternoon previews: 4pts R.O'Sullivan (-3.5 frames) to beat M.Campbell 4/5 Coral Marcus Campbell hasn’t scored well all tournament and while he’s grinded his way into the third round he isn’t guaranteed to win the scrappy frames against O’Sullivan so barring a sudden spurt in his scoring power it is hard to see Campbell challenging Ronnie in this match. Ronnie’s all round game looks far too good to me and he should come through with plenty in hand in this one. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/campbell-vs-o-sullivan-betting-ronnie-should-be-too-good-in-all-departments-for-campbell 3pts N.Robertson vs L.Hang - Over 8.5 frames 10/11 Paddy Power This is likely to be Neil Robertson’s toughest test so far in the tournament and I’ve a hunch that Hang could win some frames here. I don’t think he’ll win the match but there’s no reason why he can’t take at least three frames because unlike the two opponents the Australian has had so far, Hang can score and take the chances he is given. That could see us go over 8.5 frames here. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/robertson-vs-hang-betting-neil-robertson-could-be-made-to-work-against-the-chinese-youngster

Re: UK Championship - 26 Nov - 8 Dec Tuesday evening previews: 4pts S.Murphy vs B.Hawkins - Over 9.5 frames 11/10 Paddy Power Both these guys are pretty evenly matched and they’ve both played some solid snooker this week so I find it hard to believe either will run away with this game. Both men have good all round games. They take their chances when they come along but they can mix it in the safety department too so I expect to see at least 10 frames in this one if not the full 11. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/hawkins-vs-murphy-betting-two-evenly-matched-players-can-play-out-a-tight-tussle 4pts S.Maguire to beat J.Higgins 13/10 Boylesports Stephen Maguire beat Higgins in Coventry a couple of weeks ago. That was his fourth win on the trot over Higgins and I’ve seen nothing from Higgins to suggest he is going to end that run here. Maguire has had to come through a couple of deciding frames this week but part of that was his opponents playing well. Higgins isn’t playing well even by his own admission so Maguire can be the man in the quarter finals from this one. Re: UK Championship - 26 Nov - 8 Dec Wednesday afternoon previews: 4pts J.Trump vs M.Allen - Over 9.5 frames 11/10 Paddy Power If this is as good as their final here two years ago then this will be some match to watch. I think it will be really close as both are excellent players and both know how to fight when their back is against the wall. Hopefully we see all 11 frames here but with high breaks sure to be on the menu I think we’ll see at least 10 as I don’t see this finishing any easier than 6-4 either way. We know he’s a terrier who will scrap throughout and you get the feeling he’s just on the verge of a real big win, which could easily be this week. Mark Selby hasn’t played his very best snooker for a while now and if he doesn’t find it here he could well be sent packing. Re: UK Championship - 26 Nov - 8 Dec Wednesday evening previews: 4pts N.Robertson vs J.Perry - Over 9.5 frames 6/4 Paddy Power Robertson has a good record against Perry but I don’t recall too many of their meetings being when both have been in good form so this could well be a bit tighter than their meetings of past. Both men are scoring well so when they get a chance they’ll take it so there is every chance we’ll see at least 10 frames in this match. He secured his place in the Masters with his win over Stevens on Tuesday and with that pressure off his back we should see the best of him here. O’Sullivan is a quality player but he’s got progressively worse over the three matches he has played and if Milkins gets the chances Campbell got against O’Sullivan then the Rocket could be making a swift exit. Whether that happens I’m not sure but I expect Milkins to get at least three frames here. Re: UK Championship - 26 Nov - 8 Dec UK Snooker Championship - Neil Robertson to beat Stephen Maguire @ 1.47 Betfair Robertson has reached the last eight of this tournament for the loss of just five frames, and beat an in-form Perry in his last match. He looks in top form at the moment, and I think he will have the beating of Maguire here. So far in York the Scot has come from behind and won deciding frames against both Brecel and Liang Wenbo, and although Maguire beat Higgins in his last match he was fortunate in some ways that his opponent wasn't at his best. Robertson has tended to go well at this tournament in the past, and even though the same can be said for Maguire, I think Robertson is playing the better snooker and will find a way to progress to the last four.

Re: UK Championship - 26 Nov - 8 Dec The quarter finals look to be a good chance to back the underdogs at odds-against, with the exception of the Robertson match, as Torque has mentioned above. Walden and Hawkins are perhaps slightly too long odds against Allen and Selby respectively and Bingham looks far too long against O'Sullivan. Strange how all four matches to an extent feature underdogs playing against a slightly better version (or much better version in one case) of themselves. All are contests between players of similar styles if that makes sense.

Re: UK Championship - 26 Nov - 8 Dec Thursday afternoon previews: 4pts N.Robertson vs S.Maguire - Over 9.5 frames 6/5 Paddy Power I think we’ll see a close match here. Both men look to be scoring well and both can get in from distance so it is hard to see either running away with this match. Robertson looks in fantastic form but Maguire showed all his capabilities in beating Higgins on Tuesday night so this is all set up for a thrilling, high quality quarter final and one which contains at least ten frames if not all 11. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/robertson-vs-maguire-betting-two-top-players-can-play-out-another-tight-match-in-york 4pts R.O'Sullivan vs S.Bingham - High break Over 112.5 8/11 Boylesports I expect to see a pretty open match here. Both men like to get in the balls and get them open and score heavily so I think we’ll see some high breaks in this match. The highest break line has been set at 112.5 which looks a little on the low side. These two men both know how to clear the table so it is worth taking the over on that line. Re: UK Championship - 26 Nov - 8 Dec Thursday evening previews: 3pts B.Hawkins to beat M.Selby 13/8 Ladbrokes I think Barry Hawkins has an excellent chance in this match. He has won the last two meetings between the two including over a long distance at the World Championship so he knows how to beat Selby and I think he can do so again. Selby hasn’t really convinced me that his top game has come to York with him and if it doesn’t show itself here then his title defence could be over. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/selby-vs-hawkins-betting-barry-hawkins-can-end-the-title-reign-of-selby-in-york 4pts R.Walden to beat M.Allen 6/4 Stan James Mark Allen was woeful in his win over Judd Trump and you get the feeling from his interview that there is something not quite right in his game and he isn’t at ease. Ricky Walden is at ease though. He is playing well and has a bit of confidence about him and if he can get ahead early in this match we might just see him power into another major semi final. Re: UK Championship - 26 Nov - 8 Dec Semi final 1 preview: 5pts S.Bingham (+2.5 frames) to beat N.Robertson Evs Boylesports Stuart Bingham has an exceptionally good record over Neil Robertson in tournament play. If we take out the Championship League and the six red tournament Bingham has won the last five meetings and Robertson didn’t win a single frame in three of those matches. I think Bingham is playing as well this week as he has ever done whereas Robertson’s form has just gone off a little bit. The Englishman looks to have a fantastic chance in this match but the very least I expect from him is to stay within two frames. Re: UK Championship - 26 Nov - 8 Dec Long time lurker about time I made a few contributions. Agree with most things you say Kev but going to go against what you say here (not such a good idea for a first post). N.Robertson vs S.Bingham - Under 14.5 Bet365 Stuart has played well in this tournament so far and his only hard opponent was Ronnie who has played poor all tournament but I expect Neil to come out strong like he's been doing so far and get the first few frames and power on from there therefore, I don't expect Stuart to win more than 5 frames.

Re: UK Championship - 26 Nov - 8 Dec and I am on century breaks over 1,5 for nice value 1,66 @ bet365. robertson making new record in this season, with his 55 breaks is only 6 behind trumps record. bingham yesterday made nice 132 break and before this made another 6 centuries. i expect in minimum one century from great Neil Robertson and Stuard can do it too. I like Neil here but odds are low and under is risky, because Bingham can play againt favorites like yesterday with Ronnie.
