US Masters > April 10th - 13th

I said I would have an early antepost bet on the Masters after getting a few quid back today.. A player that is on the top of his game of late and is going to win more tournaments in 2014 is Adam Scott who from tee to green is probably the best player around at the moment. His iron play is unbelievable, he is very solid off the tee, has a very good short game and is a master putter. All of these things means he will win more majors for me. He won the US Masters 2013 and always seems to play well here with his form from the last 3 years being 1st-8th-2nd. He has a brilliant caddy with him, one of the best and most experienced in the business and after helping Tiger Woods for so long he knows how to keep a player cool to win a major. Happy to take the 16/1 about Scott at the moment. Adam Scott - 5 Points each-way @ 16/1 Bet365

Re: US Masters > April 10th - 13th I fancy Jordan Spieth to play well yet again this week in Hawaii so I have placed an each-way bet on him for the US Masters also. He is a young blossoming highly talented player that knows how to shoot a low score. He is very mature for his age and I think he has more than enough ability to figure in a major in 2014. At 50/1 he is worth an each-way bet for me. Jordan Spieth - 5 Points each-way @ 50/1 Stan James

Re: US Masters > April 10th - 13th Not long now till the first big one real shame Tiger won't be there. Have just taken a little bit e/w 1-5 100/1 on RICKIE FOWLER Corals ~I keep backing him in majors he has the talent and is capable of winning one imo just needs to turn up on all four days and keep it together thats the hard bit you never know with one minute a world beat next minute ugly to watch but worth a few coffers e/w @100'1.

Re: US Masters > April 10th - 13th I agree Ted, Rickie is a big price at 100/1. Seems to be getting his game back together and played really well in the Matchplay. One thing he won't do is give up, he will plug away. Good luck.

Re: US Masters > April 10th - 13th Does anyone feek that Kuchar will finally win a Masters. He seems to have the DNA Profile of a Major Winner. Have backed him last 2 years in every major and he usually has one poor round at the wrong time every time and therefore damages his chances. At around 25/1 is he value ? Thoughs Please ?

He is a Top 10 machine Ricay so he certainly has to have a chance, couldn't put you off him. Very accurate off the tee and a good iron player, he doesn't make too many mistakes. Solid e/w bet in my opinion.

Re: US Masters > April 10th - 13th Aidy - thanks for your feedback as it confirms my thoughts and you are correct he is a money making machine. I have taken the 25's. Dustin Johnson is also catching my eye as his form this year is strong. I also remember he has been is very strong winning positions before in majors with a 4/5 shot lead at least twice ? My other two possibles Snedeeker 33's and Cabrera 66's. Masters is my fav golf comp by far and course form is vital. PS - apologies for accidently double posting before as my 'fat fingers' were out of control :)

Re: US Masters > April 10th - 13th Dustin Johnson 25-1 e/w Ladbrokes This is the last 7 years top 10 positions. Some trends No debutant has won round Augusta's beautifully prepared fairways and greens since Fuzzy Zoeller defeated Ed Sneed and Tom Watson in a play-off almost 35 years ago. And perhaps also very significant, of the 14 champions since the year 2000, 11 of them had recorded a top-30 finish in the year before their success. I like Dustin Johnson I know he might have seven top 10’s in Majors since 2009 but he has never managed one in four attempts at Augusta. Last year however was his best effort with a T13. I firmly believe though that this season Dustin Johnson has changed. Dustin in 2014 has been a revelation with the putter. One glance at his stats proves it; he’s gone from 117th in Strokes gained putting to 10th. He’s up 128 places to second in three putt avoidance with only five in 360 holes played this season. If you’re still not satisfied I’ll throw in second in driving distance AND greens in regulation for good measure. Johnson also never brought a form-line like this into Augusta with seconds at Pebble Beach and Riviera and a fourth at Doral. 2013 1 x-Adam Scott 69 72 69 69 7 -3 -9 279 $1,440,000 2 Angel Cabrera 71 69 69 70 8 -2 -9 279 $864,000 3 Jason Day 70 68 73 70 - -2 -7 281 $544,000 T4 Marc Leishman 66 73 72 72 - E -5 283 $352,000 T4 Tiger Woods 70 73 70 70 - -2 -5 283 $352,000 T6 Thorbjorn Olesen 78 70 68 68 - -4 -4 284 $278,000 T6 Brandt Snedeker 70 70 69 75 - +3 -4 284 $278,000 T8 Sergio Garcia 66 76 73 70 - -2 -3 285 $232,000 T8 Matt Kuchar 68 75 69 73 - +1 -3 285 $232,000 T8 Lee Westwood 70 71 73 71 - -1 -3 285 $232,000 2012 1 x-Bubba Watson 69 71 70 68 8 -4 -10 278 $1,440,000 2 Louis Oosthuizen 68 72 69 69 9 -3 -10 278 $864,000 T3 Peter Hanson 68 74 65 73 - +1 -8 280 $384,000 T3 Matt Kuchar 71 70 70 69 - -3 -8 280 $384,000 T3 Phil Mickelson 74 68 66 72 - E -8 280 $384,000 T3 Lee Westwood 67 73 72 68 - -4 -8 280 $384,000 7 Ian Poulter 72 72 70 69 - -3 -5 283 $268,000 T8 Padraig Harrington 71 73 68 72 - E -4 284 $232,000 T8 Justin Rose 72 72 72 68 - -4 -4 284 $232,000 T8 Adam Scott 75 70 73 66 - -6 -4 284 $232,000 2011 1 Charl Schwartzel 69 71 68 66 -6 -14 274 $1,440,000 T2 Jason Day 72 64 72 68 -4 -12 276 $704,000 T2 Adam Scott 72 70 67 67 -5 -12 276 $704,000 T4 Tiger Woods 71 66 74 67 -5 -10 278 $330,667 T4 Geoff Ogilvy 69 69 73 67 -5 -10 278 $330,667 T4 Luke Donald 72 68 69 69 -3 -10 278 $330,667 7 Angel Cabrera 71 70 67 71 -1 -9 279 $268,000 T8 Bo Van Pelt 73 69 68 70 -2 -8 280 $240,000 T8 K.J. Re: US Masters > April 10th - 13th Not at all worried about DJ's back. He shot an 80 the week before the Masters and pulled out citing stiffness. If that 80 were a 70 I don't think it'd have even come into consideration. Regardless, I'm more than happy to be backing him. I'm well aware of Jason Day, but for mine DJ is the maiden who I feel is most ready to step up as a major winner. Has come quite close a number of times before and he cited this course as one that suits his eye (comments made about the WGC win). I feel that the Northern Trust Open is a fantastic indicator for The Master (Green Jacket winners Bubba Watson, Phil Mickelson, Adam Scott and Mike Weir have all won Northern Trust whilst Northern Trust winners Len Mattiace and Rory Sabbatini both went on to finish 2nd in the masters the year or year after their Northern Trust triumphs). Whilst he hasn't won that event, DJ has 3x Top 4 finishes there including solo 2nd this year. Additionally, as Andy pointed out his putting has improved out of sight and he's hitting plenty of greens. In terms of scoring Augusta is typically a lot easier than the Open tracks and I think that's another thing in DJ's favour, compared to say a US Open. For the reasons I pointed out with Northern Trust, I'm also backing Bill Haas this week. Dustin Johnson @ 29 Betfair Bill Haas @ 81 Laddies GL all

Re: US Masters > April 10th - 13th

Rory Mcilroy to be first round leader 14/1 paddy power well he has a great chance this week and without tiger and mickelson struggling he can get off to great start i think he was first round leader before so he knows his way round this place
I agree with that just took 16/1 e/w 1-5 with Betfair SB also took Rickie Fowler to be first round leader 66/1 e/w 1-5 with Corals if he gets on a birdie trail he is more than capable of a really low score. Also had a small e/w to win outright on Graeme McDowell 66/1 e/w 1-6 with SJ no back number in these big tournaments gets his game face on and if he is on the premisses going into the last round he is a real threat to all. Right that's me done roll on Thursday.

Re: US Masters > April 10th - 13th One of the best weeks of the sporting calender year is upon us as the famous Green Jacket is to be given out yet again this Sunday at Augusta. Here is my shortlist of the players that can figure this week along with a few other interesting bets: 1) Adam Scott each-way @ 12/1 Betfred - Also Get a £25 Free Bet when you Register! The Australian has been the model of consistency over the past couple of years and he is the current holder of the Green Jacket so he is entitled to a lot of respect yet again this year. He is yet to win in 2014 and he let a big lead slip in the Arnold Palmer in March but this is the one he has been warming up for. He has finished no worse than 25th in his five PGA Tour events this year thus far (3 Top 10's) and when he is on song he looks unbeatable. He is brilliant off the tee, a superb iron player and using the belly putter he is a sublime putter too. He can also win a battle as he proved last year when beating Angel Cabrera in a play-off but he also finished 2nd in this event the year before that. He has a brilliant caddy by his side in Steve Williams and I see no reason why he won't be up there again come Sunday. 2) Jordan Spieth each-way @ 50/1 Sky Bet - Also Get a £30 Free Bet when you Register! This 20 year old is already ranked 13th in the world and has fast come along as one of the most talented young players we have seen since Rory McIlroy, if not the most talented. He is not the most consistent of players but he still has time on his side and sometimes he lets his emotions get the better of him if he plays a bad shot. He will learn over time how to brush himself off and get on with it but if he plays as good as he can this week he certainly has to enter the equation. He has had three Top 5 finishes this season which included a 2nd place finish in the Hyundai Tournament of Champions and although he has never played in the Masters, I think he will take to it like a duck to water. He won the John Deere Classic last season so he knows how to get over that winning line and great things lie ahead for this young man. 3) Ryan Moore each-way @ 110/1 Boylesports - Also Get a £50 Free Bet when you Register! This man looks like the forgotten golfer according to the bookmakers but I personally would have made him much shorter than 110/1, it is bordering on an insult if you ask me. Ranked 33rd in the World and in 10th position in the Fedex Cup, Ryan has won three PGA Tour events already which included winning the CIMB Classic in a play-off earlier on this season. He could only manage a T38 finish in the Masters last year but one really bad round of 81 cost him dear. That was on the 3rd day, he just had a stinker, but he had a brilliant 68 on the final day which shows his resolve and only for that third day he would have gone pretty close. He finished T14 here in 2010 and he smacks of value in my opinion. 4) KJ Choi - Top Asian Player @ 11/4 Sky Bet - Also Get £30 Free Bet when you Register! KJ should be able to put his experience around this course to good use and he looks like good value to land the Top Asian golfer. He only has Matsuyama, Jaidee, Bae, Yang and Lee to beat and really the only danger should be Matsuyama. The young star Matsuyama is a sublime up and coming talent but he might just lack that bit of experience around the course. KJ went off the boil for a couple of years but there are signs that he has been coming back to life of late when he finished 2nd in the Farmers Insurance Open and T12 in the Northern Trust. He was T46 in the Masters last year and there is a chance that a repeat could well be enough to win this bet. He also finished T8 here in 2011 and T4 in 2010, he certainly knows his way around here. 5) Lee Westwood - Top English Player @ 10/3 Bet Victor - Also Get a £100 Free Bet when you Register! Justin Rose is currently the 2/1 favourite in this market and I think he is the false favourite in my opinion, Westwood should be there. Lee has played some of the best golf of his entire career here at Augusta and his results prove that. His results in the Masters for his entire career is as follows: 24th, 44th, 6th, CUT, 44, CUT, CUT, 30th, 11th, 43rd, 2nd, 11th, 3rd, 8th. As you can see since he has grown and aged as a player the results have got so much better for him at Augusta. The last four years in a row he has played exceptionally well here and he can put that experience to good use this week. He also has acquired a new coach recently and I am sure we will be seeing some big performances from Lee in the coming months. 6) Charl Schwartzel - Top South African Player @ 11/8 Sky Bet - Also Get Free £30 Bet when you Register! Charl is a very quirky but very talented golfer that has worn the Green Jacket before so he needs no introduction to the US Masters. He has been very hit or miss this season, especially off the tee, the driver has let him down this season but when he is on song he is devastating to watch. He won here in 2011 and looking at his opposition for this bet, there are two possible challengers in my opinion in Ernie Els and Louis Oosthuizen. Louis has not been himself on the PGA Tour this season (even though he won on the European Tour) but he finished 2nd in a play-off in the Masters two years ago and has to be Charl's biggest rival. That was the only time he played well here though, he normally misses the cut so I think Charl is a nice bet here. I have also backed the treble for those bets which is around 27/1 with Bet365 and when you sign up you get a £200 Free Bet! Enjoy the week folks, should be a brilliant spectacle.

Re: US Masters > April 10th - 13th Top European Rory McIlroy is actually one of the favourites to win the tournament so many of his followers will think the 100/30 being offered by Coral in this shortened field will be decent value. He certainly has the game being a Major winner before although his record here at Augusta is not so great. In his 5 attempts his best finish has been 15th and failed to make the cut in 2010. Next best is Sergio Garcia from Spain, he has come close to winning a Major many times but hasn’t been able to get over the line so maybe this market is where to back the Spaniard. He’s played every year since 1999 and has three top ten finishes and last year was 8th. He’s playing well going into the Masters and knows his way around Augusta. Justin Rose has a good record and has never missed the cut in eight attempts, he has been in the top 25 in six of those tournaments and that’s a terrific form guide for this type of betting. Henrik Stenson came right back to his best form in 2013 and ended up winning the Fed-Ex Cup. He was 18th here last year and overall has not performed to his best on this course. He’s a risky proposition at the moment and hasn’t found his form thus far in 2014. Luke Donald has been going through a lean time and has seen his world-ranking drop to 27th over the last 12 months. He does play Augusta well though so a return to form wouldn’t be out of the question; he was third in 2005 and 4th in 2011 but interestingly they were the only years he shot under-par in nine tries. Lee Westwood is another Brit gone off the boil lately and you really need to bring you’re A-game here to have a chance. He’s 14/1 with Stan James, which tells you all you need to know, as this popular player was the favourite in this market last year. His last four Masters read 8th,3rd,11th and 2nd so ought be much shorter than his odds at present. Graeme McDowell has a fair record in Major events but not the Masters. His best finish was 12th in 2012 and has missed the cut four times in six years. Ian Poulter also missed the cut last year but that was his only blip on an otherwise excellent set of form figures here since 2004. He has had two top tens and three other top 30 finishes. The young kid on the block is Victor Dubuisson, he makes his Masters debut this year after a terrific start to 2014 and seems to have the confidence for the big occasion. He’s 28/1 with Paddy Power to lead the Europeans home and I’ve seen worse bets. Selection: Top European: Justin Rose 2pts EW 8/1 Ladbrokes

Certainly tend to agree with Aidy on this one. That hackers round at Huston is seriously off putting. Maybe he had Georgia on his mind and it may be a bit of a smokescreen. He is a risky proposition after last weeks show in Texas.

From the list above this would exclude; Louis Oosthuizen 71 Hideki Matsuyama 71 Webb Simpson 81 Nick Watney 101 No European has won the Masters since 1999. These are the Europeans from the list above. Again for trading possibalities Nick Watney 2 @ 140/1 Trevor Immelman 2 @ 220/1 Top 10 Hideki Matsuyama 5 @ 8 Peter Hanson 5 @ 13 This is going to be a tough call, a lot of the top 20 in the betting have a really good chance. My main bet is going to be Jason Dufner £10 @ 40/1 with Coral + free in play bet for £10 On top of the obvious that he's the most recent major champion, many signs point to Dufner being a strong pick at Augusta National this week. Checkpoint No. 1: coming in with good form. No champion since Nick Faldo in 1989 has entered the Masters without a top-20 on the PGA Tour that season already to his credit. None of our previous four Masters winners had missed a cut on the tour leading up to that season's first major. Dufner passes those with flying colors: four top-15 finishes in six 2014 tour starts with no missed cuts. Checkpoint No. 2: playing well at Doral. No pre-Masters tournament in recent years has been a better indicator of Augusta's leaderboard than Doral. Over the past 10 years, the Masters champion has played earlier in that season at Doral nine times. All nine of those winners made the cut at Doral, and four of them finished in the top 10. The past two Masters winners, Scott and Bubba Watson, finished T-3rd and second, respectively. Dufner passes again: a tie for ninth place at The Donald's new creation. Checkpoint No. 3: a clutch résumé. While it's true that Dufner is a combined 10-over on the weekend at Augusta in his career, recent trends point to that changing this week. Dufner has broken par in four of his past five final rounds in major championships. In the past three final rounds of majors last season, Dufner was a combined nine under par. And four times in Dufner's career, he's entered the final round of a major inside the top 10. He shot par or better all four times, posting a combined score of 4-under. No Tiger? No problem. Masters week is here. With the par 3 on Tomorrow I'll see who win's that before I make up my mind on a saver.

Re: US Masters > April 10th - 13th Top Scandinavian Player Interesting market with only five players from Scandinavia playing this week and Henrik Stenson is the 4/6 favourite with >Paddy Power. Stenson has a poor record at Augusta and no matter what you think of the other four players this must be a poor value bet. Peter Hanson is worth a look; he was third in the 2012 Masters and not badly placed after two rounds last year. A 76 in round 3 made life difficult and he ended up 50th. Thorbjorn Olesen made his debut last year and started off with a nervy 78, to his credit he fought back with rounds of 70,68,68 to finish 6th overall. Two top 5 finishes this year already in the bank and he could be the one at a decent price. The other two are Jonas Blixt who makes his first appearance and Tomas Bjorn who has yet to finish under par in ten attempts here at Augusta. Selection: 2pts Thorbjorn Olesen 13/2 Stan James Top South African Player Six South Africans start out on Thursday and we have four Major winners amongst them. The favourite is Charl Schwartzel at 11/8 with Skybet who won here in 2011. Eight rounds in the 70’s since then have not been as productive and better value may lay elsewhere. Schwartzel’s great mate Louis Oosthuizen has a terrible overall Masters record with four missed cuts in five years, he did finish second on the other occasion to be fair but consistency is not his strong point. The experienced Ernie Els has been round the block a few times and has only missed the cut four times in nineteen years and shot under par on ten different occasions. His recent form has been a bit iffy but last time in Houston he showed a bit more and could well go well here once again. Another former winner Trevor Immelman missed the cut last time out but did shoot a 69 in his first round. This season he has had a top ten and three top 25’s suggesting he’s in fair nick and his Masters record is pretty good with four top 20’s along with his win in 2008. Brenden Grace is out of form and Tim Clark has missed the cut here in three of his last four visits and again last week. Selection: 2pts Trevor Immelman 15/2 >Bet365

Re: US Masters > April 10th - 13th My longshot for the week is Scott Stallings @ 301 (Bet365). Can't really explain in a logical sense why, just have a feeling that if he plays well it is a course that will suit his strengths. Whenever he's on song Stallings has incredible stats for putting inside 10 feet. Obviously it's not too likely he shows up in red hot form, but IMO his red hot form is a lot better than the majority of the field.

Re: US Masters > April 10th - 13th Ricky Fowler 66-1 Ladbrokes (probably better elsewhere!) 2pts e/w I was watching "Live From Augusta "about 4 hours ago and they said that Ricky Fowler "blitzed" Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson in a competitive practice round today by recording 9 birdies and an eagle. This made me look up his profile. He has only played 3 ,masters 2011 T38 , 2012 T27, 2013 T38. He has 2 top 10 finishes in majors, and he just finished 6th in the Shell Houston Open (April 3rd - 6th), note that Mcllory was T7 in this event. Ladbrokes have him in a Match bet with only Luke Donald (last bet 12pm tomorrow) . Donald is 4/5 and Fowler is Evs. (5pts Fowler) (16-1 the tie) This is Donald's tweet during the Shell Huston Open (last week) mentioned above " Game has been a little loose the last couple of days. Greens are putting a lot slower than they look which makes reading them difficult." However he finished only 5 shots T24 behind Fowler. Donald's psyche doesn't seem to be very positive right now, and that has been an issue for him in majors over the course of his career. His last 3 years Master records is 2011 Missed Cut , 2012 T32 , 2013 T25

Re: US Masters > April 10th - 13th Patrick Reed 11-1 (top 5 finish Ladbrokes Exchange) 6-1 (top 10 finish Ladbrokes exchange) He's paired with World No. 9 Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth (No. 13) for Thursday & Friday. I think this will bring out the best in him. He's fiercely competitive. His win at WGC-Cadillac Championship 9th March 2014 meant Reed became only the fifth golfer to earn three PGA Tour wins before his 24th birthday since 1990. It’s on a course he’s somewhat familiar with — Reed played Augusta National Golf Club three times while at Augusta State. His latest quote: “I’ve dreamed of playing in the Masters my whole life,” Reed said. “To finally have it be a reality, I just have to stay level-headed and focus on playing golf, not so much where I’m at or what I’m doing. Just try to treat it as another event, even though everyone knows it’s not another event.”

Re: US Masters > April 10th - 13th I really fancy Harris English to take the top rookie/debutant position this year at 7/1 with Bet 365. English is a newbie to the Masters but he's got a big drive and he putts well, all absolutely vital around Augusta - particularly the big hit that he has. The golfer is currently ranked number one on the PGA Tour for greens hit in regulation with a massive 73.03%, so hopefully he won't be spending too much time off the fairways and even if he does, he has a great recover rate. With a birdie average ranking third in the PGA Tour right now and an all round PGA ranking of fourth in the tour, I expect him to do well in his debut at the Masters, and at 66/1 to win outright, he's worth a couple of quid for that column too! He came fourth in the FedEx tour, currently sits 36th in the world rankings, and got six top 10 finishes in the 13 events he's played in current season so far - winning one of them and making the cut in every single one.

Re: US Masters > April 10th - 13th Withso much content and coverage of the Masters, we all know what's absolutelyessential to win around Augustasince the course has been turned into a longer test. Big towering hittersthrive and course experience is 100% essential. As Henrik Stenson said in hisinterview yesterday - "you only learn from the mistakes you make, afterbeing told not to do them in the first place." So despite there being 24 debutantsthis week, many of them playing the best golf of their careers; and the factthat Day and Leishman both contended on debut - if you are looking for thewinner......I'd look elsewhere personally. Stats wise Sergio Garcia, Bubba Watson and Dustin Johnsonare the 3 players who should win this week. Whether they do or not is naturallythe big question and there are ????s against all 3. I've seen players win hererecently after MCs at Houston, but not many who win after WDs on their previous appearance. In the modern gamethat is likely to change as WDs become more prevalent; indeed I scored on TigerWoods a couple of years ago at Bay Hill after he WD at Doral. But I'm stayingclear of both (rightly or wrongly). Sergio is playing some of the best golf ofhis career right now. He seems in a positive place; there is no Tiger to damagehis mental state; he has ALL the right course form and will take solace fromAdam Scott 12 months ago. This for me is his best ever chance of winning aMajor. If we are looing at long shots I think that Ryan Moore,Jamie Donaldson and Russell Henley could go very well this week. Moore lovesclassical courses and putts serenely on bentgrass greens; Donaldson feels hebelongs in the elite category and his length allied to ball striking suitsAugusta to a tee; and local lad Russell Henley is Snedeker like with the putterand hit plenty of greens last week in Houston.........dangerous. For those looking for some smaller - lower risk returnsI'm amazed at the value in both Jim Furyk and Steve Stricker this week for Top20 finishes. If one of them comes in (highly likely), you double your stake.
