Champion of Champions 19-24 Nov

The inaugural Champion of Champions event begins on Tuesday with 16 players made up of tournament winners and high rankings heading to Coventry for the tournament which in effect replaces the Premier League. Slightly weird set up with the 16 men being drawn into four groups with each group having one day where there are semi finals and a final with the winner of each group final going through to the overall semi finals at the weekend. ITV4 has all the action this week. Draw, schedule and format here: http://www.snooker.org/res/index.asp?event=280

Re: Champion of Champions 19-24 Nov Tournament preview: 2pts ew M.Selby to win Champion of Champions 9/1 Bet365 (1/2 1-2) Mark Selby had been going through a bit of a quiet spell over the last month or two but he bounced back to form in style in Antwerp at the weekend and he looks to have a good chance in this tournament. We know he can beat the very best just by looking at his record in The Masters and if he can get through the first round into the longer matches he is going to take some stopping. O’Sullivan, Ding and Robertson are all in the other half of the draw so the 9/1 about Selby makes plenty of appeal this week. Re: Champion of Champions 19-24 Nov Tuesday previews: 4pts M.Selby (-1.5 frames) to beat S.Murphy 6/5 Coral If both of these were at their best then this could be a very close match but the long and short of it is Murphy isn’t playing all that well at the minute so I think we have to believe that Mark Selby is a good thing here and given the way he disposed of the likes of Ding at the weekend I think he could well come through this with a bit to spare as well. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/selby-vs-murphy-betting-mark-selby-can-continue-his-good-form-from-the-weekend 4pts S.Maguire to beat J.Higgins 5/4 Stan James Maguire has won the last three meetings between these two players and I think he’s a good price to win another one here too. It took a while for Maguire to break his duck against Higgins, a player I’m sure he looked up to as a youngster, but once he did he went on to dominate their recent meetings. He goes into this tournament in much better form and with his game in much better shape of the two so odds against looks nice to me. Re: Champion of Champions 19-24 Nov Wednesday previews: 3pts J.Trump (-1.5 frames) to beat M.Fu 5/4 Coral Judd Trump has a good record over Marco Fu in their past meetings and given that the one table format and the size of the tournament should inspire him I think he is a good bet here. Fu is enjoying a great season but his record against the very top players isn’t perhaps what it could be. Judd showed at the weekend that he has found his scoring boots again and he can prevail with a bit to spare. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/trump-vs-fu-betting-judd-trump-can-show-his-class-in-coventry-opener 4pts S.Bingham to beat R.Walden 4/5 Paddy Power Stuart Bingham is something who I think will go well this week and as such I expect him to come through this match relatively unscathed. For me Walden prefers the longer matches or at least most of his better results come in the longer formats and he can be one who is a little rusty early on in a tournament. With Bingham’s one table pedigree in recent times and his excellent showing against O’Sullivan at the weekend where he was so unlucky to lose I favour him here. Re: Champion of Champions 19-24 Nov Thursday previews: 3pts N.Robertson vs M.Gould - Under 5.5 frames 11/10 Coral If we ignore the Championship League which I never think Robertson really cares about these two have met four times since Gould burst onto the scene at the World Championship back in 2010 and the three matches which Robertson has won have been quite easy and I think this could be too. Robertson’s World Championship win over Gould came from miles back and it is like that has stayed in Gould’s head since whenever they’ve met. A few of these first round matches have been disappointing and one sided and this could well be another. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/robertson-vs-gould-betting-robertson-could-turn-this-into-another-one-sided-first-round-contest 4pts M.Allen (-1.5 frames) to beat A.Carter Evs Paddy Power I like Mark Allen. I’m a big fan of his and I think he has a little too much for Ali Carter. Allen probably doesn’t get the credit he deserves because he hasn’t yet gone deep in a UK major but he has a chance this week to make a name for himself. Ali Carter is game and gutsy but I feel he could just come up a little short in this group semi final. Re: Champion of Champions 19-24 Nov Friday previews: 4pts D.Junhui (-1.5 frames) to beat B.Hawkins 5/6 Bet365 Hawkins arrives here in pretty poor nick but that can go one of two ways. He could be inspired by the one table format again or his game could be slightly off and he’ll be exposed in the quicker conditions. I think it will be the latter but part of that is because even if he plays well Ding is playing so well he can still win. With Hawkins not quite at the top of his game I’ll take Ding to win with a bit in hand. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/ding-vs-hawkins-betting-ding-can-continue-his-good-form-in-coventry-opener 4pts R.O'Sullivan vs M.Davis - Over 5.5 frames 8/11 Paddy Power I think this will be a closer match than the odds suggest. O’Sullivan is clearly the one to beat but he hasn’t shown his very best form in recent times. He was pushed in a couple of matches in Antwerp last weekend and Mark Davis has the scoring power to mop up any chances he is given in this match so I think we’ll see at least six frames if not all seven. Re: Champion of Champions 19-24 Nov SF1 preview: 4pts M.Selby vs S.Bingham - Over 9.5 frames 6/5 Paddy Power These two have met eight times since 2011 and surprisingly six of those matches have gone to a deciding frame. I say surprisingly because that was around the time Selby was dominating this game and Bingham was just finding his best snooker so it is clear that the styles of these two gel and they bring out the best of each other. Both have played well this week so with that record in mind as well I like over 9.5 frames here. Re: Champion of Champions 19-24 Nov SF2 preview: 4pts R.O'Sullivan vs N.Robertson - Over 1.5 centuries Evs Bet365 I’m really looking forward to this semi final. The two best players in the world go at it here and it could be one of the great matches. Both men look in excellent form and I don’t expect to see a lot of safety in this one. We’re going to see the balls open and plenty of high breaks rattled in, so much so that I’d be surprised if we don’t see at least a couple of century breaks. Re: Champion of Champions 19-24 Nov Final preview: 4pts R.O'Sullivan (-3.5 frames) to beat S.Bingham 8/11 Coral Bingham has done well to get this far but he faces a real test here. O’Sullivan’s frame on frame consistency and pressure makes him so hard to beat over this distance and beyond as we’ve seen in the World Championship in recent years. Bingham is a great player but I’m not convinced he has the tactical game to stick with O’Sullivan over this distance so if he doesn’t score fantastically this will be a comfortable win for the world champion.
