Re: Ligue 1 Orange > October 18th - 20th Nice – Marseille Nice don’t have any new injury or suspension concerns here. Their most important absentee remains left winger Eric Bautheac who’lll be out of action for at least a couple more weeks. Marseille have Dimitri Payet suspended, but have no other problems. Left back Jeremy Morel returns from injury, although this might not actually be a good thing because he’s been in terrible form this season. They key factor to consider here is how the international break will affect both teams. A lot of OM players travelled with various different national teams, and in some cases like those who went to Africa, recovery could be difficult. It pains me to say it, but I think OM will struggle tonight. This just isn’t a good spot for them. Their last match was a very emotional loss against bitter rivals PSG and everyone would’ve been pretty depressed during the last 2 weeks. Add in the fact that the international break wouldn’t have done them many favours, plus they have to play on Friday night which gives their players less time to recover. Maybe OM might also be looking ahead to their make or break CL game against Napoli next week. But most important of all, OM just haven’t impressed that much this season, especially away from home where they’ve only managed to beat Guingamp, Valenciennes, in addition to securing a very fortunate win at Lorient. Nice have won both matches so far at the Allianz Riviera and they’ll be strongly fired up for this encounter. I think there’s a good chance of a home win and at the very least Nice are capable of a draw. Prediction: Nice 1-0 Marseille Recommended bet: Nice 0AH @ 2.06 4/10 Reims – Toulouse Both teams are in pretty good condition ahead of the game. The defensive duo of Conte and Glombard are both injured for Reims and of course playmaker Diego is out long term. But apart form right winger Odair Fortes who is still suspended, their squad has few absences. Toulouse are in an even better state and have no worries at all, except for the long term Mihai Roman who has yet to play a game for them since his summer move. Both teams have been in good form recently and Reims haven’t lost since the opening day of the season. Toulouse have only suffered 1 loss since the end of August, which was at PSG so hardly a disgrace. Once again though it seems like everyone is underestimating Reims. Is everyone forgetting that this is one of the biggest fortress stadiums in the whole of France? They outplayed Monaco here before the international break and were unlucky not to beat them, eventually having to settle for a 1-1 draw. Reims have actually drawn their last 6 games so an all square outcome can’t be dismissed, but I definitely give them the edge here. Toulouse won’t be an easy nut to crack but this just isn’t an easy place for any side to come and visit. I like backing Reims on a 0H line because it gives some draw security cover, but I think they have a good chance of winning. Prediction: Reims 1-0 Toulouse Recommended bet: Reims 0AH @ 1.85 5/10

Marseille certainly have the edge head to head at Nice's ground - 3 wins and a draw in the last 5 games there. They're the bigger club aren't they? Maybe this gives them some psychological advantage historically?

Result: Nice 1 Marseille 0 Meatman can eat steak tonight :clap I saw some of the second half, and it was one-way traffic towards the Nice goal. I think Marseille hit the woodwork a few times, and they had far more shots and corners, but somehow you felt they lacked a bit of belief at the same time - they looked as though they were hoping they would score rather than really believing they would.

Re: Ligue 1 Orange > October 18th - 20th PSG – Bastia Les Parisians still have Javier Pastore still injured, which might not be a bad thing in all fairness. They still miss shutdown CB Thiago Silva which is of course a blow. Motta and Verratti are both suspended which weakens their midfield, but PSG are a side who have loads of strength in depth and shouldn’t be affected too much in a match like this. Bastia don’t have too many issues here although they do have a couple of defensive absences. Right back Diakite is still suspended, whilst CB Squillaci is injured. Nobody else is ruled out though and coach Frederic Hantz has a full compliment of midfielders and attackers to choose from. Bastia have impressed me at times this season but only at home. They haven’t been so good on their travels and currently have an away record of 0-2-3. Both of their draws have been really fortunate as well, one of which included a ridiculous late fightback against St Etienne. But realistically they should’ve gotten thrashed in that match instead of obtaining a lucky 2-2 result. Monaco dominated them 3-0 a few weeks ago and I fear for them here as well. I just don’t think they are type of team who will cause PSG problems. Bastia like to attack which is a recipe for disaster for any side coming to Le Parc de Princes. PSG have too many big offensive weapons who can capitalise on any teams who come here playing more open. On the positive side for Bastia, they might be playing against the champions at a reasonably good time. PSG have known to be sluggish after international breaks and there’s a chance they might not be properly focused for this encounter. Normally I’d also say that they could have a potential eye on the Champions League midweek too, but they are only away at Anderlecht who are so poor that Laurent Blanc could probably field a reserve team and still beat the Belgians. PSG have yet to win a game by more than a 2 goal margin this season (in Ligue 1). I think they are ‘due’ to hammer someone and this could be the match. Bastia do have offensive talent and might get on the scoresheet but if they operate too open then it could get ugly. I’m going to back PSG -1.75. They were the exact same handicap against Toulouse a couple of weeks ago so and Bastia aren’t as good as them so in my eyes this is too generous. Prediction: PSG 4-1 Bastia Recommended bet: PSG -1.75 @ 2.02 4/10

Re: Ligue 1 Orange > October 18th - 20th Ajaccio – Nantes The hosts still have a trio of injured attackers. Eduardo, Oliech and Diarra remain on the sidelines, along with DMID Ricardo Faty who has yet to play a single game yet this season. In addition, utility midfielder Paul Lasne is suspended which won’t please coach Fabrizio Ravanelli because he’s used him quite a lot this season. Nantes are in good condition and only have one injury – to striker Johan Audel who hasn’t featured much this season anyway. Defender, Gabriel Cichero isn’t included in the squad for personal reasons but he probably wouldn’t have started anyway. If you’d said to me that promoted Nantes would be an away favourite in just their 10th match of the season, I’d have been shocked. This just shows how well they’ve done though and coach Michel De Zakarian deserves a lot of credit for the job he’s done here. Of course, these odds also reflect how poor Ajaccio have been this season under Ravanelli. The Italian just looks like a pure wildcard to me and doesn’t suit them very much. I’d be very surprised if he lasts the whole season at the club, and if he is still here in May then he’ll probably have relegated them. Tactically, I just don’t think he’s got much of a clue and is insistent on playing guys out of their natural positions. Somehow or other, they’ve not lost at home since the opening day of the season, thanks mostly to their excellent GK Memo Ochoa. I think Nantes will win but I’m not going to back them at this short price. I’ll stay away here because Ajaccio games at home haven’t been too kind to me this season. If Nantes turn up focused though I could definitely see them getting the 3 points. Prediction: Ajaccio 1-2 Nantes Recommended bet: None Evian – Guingamp Evian have some big squad problems here. Starting at the back no1 keeper Bertrand Laquait is injured along with a trio of defenders. Key right back Brice Dja Djedje is still out along with CB Mensah and fullback Fabrice Ehret. In midfield, the old dinosaur Cedric Barbosa is suspended and Evian will miss him because he’s still a key part of the team. To make matters worse, Djakaridja Kone is also banned so Evian will be pretty light in the middle of the park. They even have absences upfront with Reuben still injured and Bertoglio suspended. Guingamp aren’t without problems here either though. Right back Martins Pereira is still injured and the visitors have midfield suspension issues themselves. Both Mathis and Sankhare are banned and will be sorely missed, they are key men in the middle for Guingamp and they have poor squad depth in this area of the pitch. I think Evian are underestimated here. They aren’t that bad a side really and despite their absences I think they could win today. Guingamp have been surprisingly good so far this season but most of their good results have been at home. Its worth nothing that they’ve lost 3 out of 4 away matches so have yet to find their feet whilst travelling. Both teams will be playing without their usual central midfielders here so its a question of who adapts best. Evian are at home so it’ll probably be easier for them. I think this’ll be a really open game of football and it could contain a few goals in it. Both sides like to attack and their main strengths are going forward, not defending. So I’ll have a small nibble on the overs and also back Evian on this -0.25 line where I think they are overpriced. Prediction: Evian 2-1 Guingamp Recommended bets: Evian -0.25 @ 2.20 4/10 & Over 2.5 goals @ 2.06 3/10 Montpellier – Lille MHSC have 3 suspensions here. Left back Siaka Tiene is banned for the 3rd straight game whilst attackers Sanson and Montano are also ruled out. Montpellier should be able to cope pretty well without the latter two players and they’ve been used to Tiene being out so that shouldn’t be too much of an issue either. Gary Bocaly is still injured but midfield lynchpin Jamel Saihi is included in the squad for the first time this season. Whether or not he’ll be fit enough to start remains to be seen, but its a real boost that they have him back for the first time in ages. Lille have been able to keep a very settled squad this season but key defender Marko Basa is still injured and now creative midfielder Marvin Martin has joined him on the sidelines following knee surgery which will likely keep him out for 6 weeks. Striker Ryan Mendes is injured too, but he;s not really that important and hasn’t played since early September anyway. Of course, the big story here is the return of Rene Girard who coached Montpellier brilliantly during his spell here. Girard will always be highly respected by MHSC fans, but he’ll be desperate to get one over his old club. Montpellier will really want to beat him too though so I think we’ll see a very committed match where both teams go at it hard. Montpellier have only lost 1 match this season and that was away at Monaco. Prior to the international break they thrashed Lyon 5-1 so should be fresh full of confidence. This is one of my favourite plays of the week and I think that Montpellier are grossly underrated by the bookies. How on earth are Lille favourites here seriously? They have been one of the better sides in Ligue 1 recently but victories against Ajaccio, Sochaux and Evian are hardly anything to write home about! Lille are not suddenly back as a major power in this ligue but everyone seems to think they are following these recent results. They are a good side, don’t get me wrong, and probably slightly better than Montpellier. But there’s no way in a million years they deserve favoritism at Le Stade Mosson tonight. Jean Fernandez’s hosts are a solid side and will be difficult to beat in this fixture. I’m loving this DNB handicap @odds against on Montpellier and they seem like a very solid bet to me. This is not quite the same situation as the Lyon match prior to the international break, because Lille are in better shape, but I give MHSC a decent chance of winning. Prediction: Montpellier 2-0 Lille Recommended bet: Montpellier 0AH @ 2.15 6/10 Rennes – Valenciennes Rennes just have a couple of new problems here. Midfielder Jean Makoun is rested out and not included in the squad, whilst striker Nelson Oliveira is suspended. Both will be missed and have been in fairly good form this season. Valenciennes have a few absentees too. Backup keeper Magno Novaes is out along with RB Kenny Lala. In midfield, the duo of Ducourtioux and Enza Yamissi are both suspended which is blow, whilst in attack Gregory Pujol is ruled out yet again (surprise surprise). Here is another match where a manager goes up against his former club. Philippe Montanier had some success at Valenciennes and now he’s up against Ariel Jacobs who makes his debut on the VA bench. Daniel Sanchez was sacked by the president following their poor start to the season. I’d like to put on record how how much of a poor decision I think this actually is. VA had a very tough set of fixtures and played their heart out for him just before the international break. They somehow didn’t beat Reims despite absolutely battering them, but at least ended their losing run. Will new manager syndrome take effect? Well maybe, but I don’t think it’ll happen in this fixture. VA have always been a terrible away side and the odds are too generous on Rennes for me to refuse. They are the better team and I’ll back them to spoil Jacobs’ coaching debut for the visitors. Prediction: Rennes 1-0 Valenciennes Recommended bet: Rennes -0.5 @ 1.92 4/10

Re: Ligue 1 Orange > October 18th - 20th Fuck me, terrible evening session with Rennes blowing a 2-0 lead and Montpellier somehow losing. I have no idea how Montpellier lost that game, they had so many chances including a missed penalty. I have not been so pissed off about losing a bet for quite some time like that

Re: Ligue 1 Orange > October 18th - 20th Sochaux – Monaco Sochaux have 3 key suspensions here, two of which are at the back. Their best player Sebastien Corchia (RB) is banned along with Cedric Kante (CB). Right winger Roy Contout is the other casualty. With LB Jerome Roussillon injured again, their backline is going to be very patchwork and downgraded. It’ll probably contain Faussurier – Carlao – Zouma and somebody else, maybe Mathieu Peybernes who is absolutely awful. Monaco meanwhile, have relatively few squad issues. Left back Kurzawa is injured whilst striker Emmanuel Riviere is still out too. They do welcome back midfield lynchpin Jeremy Toulalan though, which is a boost. In theory, Monaco should win this match easily. The Sochaux defence (which was poor anyway) is so banged up that it’d be a minor miracle if they kept a clean sheet. In fact, it’d be a miracle if they can restrict Monaco to scoring any less than 3 goals, thats how bad it looks on paper. The visitors are obviously a quality team and have some world class players in their ranks. Honestly, they should be too good for Sochaux here but there are some factors which go against Monaco here. First, Sochaux have a new coach Herve Renard. For those of you who might be familiar with the name, he’s the ex Zambia boss who led them to African Nations glory just a couple of years ago. Sochaux have appointed a very good coach IMO and I’m sure everyone will be highly motivated to perform for him today, maybe inducing ‘new manager syndrome’ This will be Renard’s first match in charge and there should be a decent crowd inside the stadium which will create a good atmosphere for once. Sochaux had a reputation last season of upsetting ‘big teams’ and they usually like this role as an underdog. Another factor in their favour is that away teams usually perform badly in 2pm (local) kick off time’s in France. For some reason, maybe circadian rhythm related, they struggle badly in these contests and few have managed to win this season. Monaco have also had a bunch of international players travel a long way in this past week or so which might have a negative effect on performance. This is a potential banana skin fixture for Claudio Ranieri’s men, and rain is forecast for the match which might upset them too. I still think Monaco will win but there are enough potential doubts here which put me off backing them. A gut feeling tells me Sochaux could somehow spring a shock, even though it goes against all logic. I will however back over 2.5 goals. Sochaux can’t defend, but they can attack, and this should be an open contest. Prediction: Sochaux 2-3 Monaco Recommended bet: Over 2.5 goals @ 2.08 4/10 St Etienne – Lorient Sainte have had injury problems this season but their situation is slightly improved for this match. Firstly, they welcome back key CB Loic Perrin, and secondly hitman Brandao is back for them upfront. LB Brison is still out and so is striker Mevlut Erding but they are in better condition than they were before the international break. Sainte’s only other worry is the suspension of attacker Romain Hamouma. As ever, Lorient have plenty of injury problems. Defensively, things aren’t too bad at least and their only absentee is RB Gassama. However, they are massively depleted in midfield. I won’t give a full list here but they miss about half a dozen players for various reasons, leaving them with a likely central midfield pairing of Mathieu Coutadeur and Cheikh Doukoure, which is hardly very imposing. At least key striker Jeremie Aliadiere should be fully fit again and he’ll link up with Vincent Aboubakar upfront. Lorient are actually in the relegation zone having lost 4 of their last 5 games and it hasn’t been a very good start to the season for them. Their main problem has been away form, where they’ve lost all 5 fixtures, scoring just 1 goal in the process. Lorient have only actually had 4 home games all season, and amazingly they have to play on the road again today. They don’t enjoy being away from their own artificial pitch and it looks like it could be another struggling afternoon. Prior to the start of this round of fixtures, only Evian and Sochaux had conceded more goals than Les Merlus, so its obvious thats where a major part of their problems lies, although scoring goals on the road is a massive concern too. One glimmer of hope for Lorient is that their opponents today also struggled before the international break. After a blistering start to the season, St Etienne have now lost 3 of their last 4 games and erased all of their early momentum. But I think they are a better team that their record suggests. Lets look back at those 4 games and see what went wrong. They were dominating Toulouse and leading 1-0 before surrendering 2 goals in the 2nd half, somehow losing eventually. A defeat to Marseille followed which is no disgrace, and they kept things close away against a good team. The big letdown was against Bastia when they blew a 2-0 lead with just 4 mins left, only to draw 2-2. Truth be told they should’ve won that game 4 or 5 nil! They probably could’ve beaten Monaco away too but fell to a late goal and lost 1-2. What’s happened is that a collection of events have cost them and they’ve continually been shooting themselves in the foot. Realistically, they are easily a better team than Lorient and should be able to bounce back to winning ways here as long as they don’t keep doing stupid things. I think they’ll be in for a comfortable afternoon, Lorient don’t have a fit enough squad to compete properly right now. Prediction: St Etienne 3-1 Lorient Recommended bet: St Etienne -0.75 @ 1.88 5/10

Re: Ligue 1 Orange > October 18th - 20th Bet on Monaco seems like easy money, of course there is nothing sure in football betting, but I don't think Sochaux can stop Monaco's firepower. The hosts got long list of missing players and a fresh new coach, who IMO will have to wait for his first points in Ligue 1. So, the question here is 'how many the guest are going to score today'. My bet - Monaco -1AH @1.80 at Bet365

Re: Ligue 1 Orange > October 18th - 20th

Sochaux – Monaco Sochaux have 3 key suspensions here, two of which are at the back.
Great call again for over 2,5 goals which came in just after one hour of play (Monaco going 2-0 up in the first 10 mins). Well done, meatman !!!

Re: Ligue 1 Orange > October 18th - 20th No bet for me tonight. I mean, in theory it should actually end over 2.5 really. Lyon have loads of absences in defence which Bordeaux could capitalise on. But like you say, this fixture has a history of being very tight and Lyon may well focus on defence. Bordeaux aren't nicknamed 'Bordo' for nothing either and have a tendency to play negatively away. My predicted scoreline is 1-1. Good luck to anyone whatever they take!

Re: Ligue 1 Orange > October 18th - 20th I officially hate French league. can nobody defend anymore or show any consistency. what the hell happened to Montpelier after last they trashed their opponent and Monaco, Rennes and evian letting leads slips to actually lose in the end is pathetic. I am staying away from French league in the future.
