Qualifying Both practice session went to the Mercedes driver Hamilton with his team mate Rosberg not far behind along with both Red Bulls and it will need a miracle for anyone outside this top four to go quicker in Saturdays qualifying and the betting for pole position reflects that. Vettel is a shade of odds on with Hamilton at around 7/4 second best. Once again Webber is over priced at a double figure price and he has to be the value bet in the each way market. As for pole itself I reckon Hamilton has shown he’s happy with is car at the moment and often does better in qualifying than he does in practice so Vettel will have to find some improvement from somewhere to stop the British driver coming out on top tomorrow. Lets hope the Mercedes can ruffle a few Red Bull feathers so we can have an exciting Grand Prix on Sunday and if Alonso can qualify on the third row we should be in for a treat on a circuit that overtaking is not as difficult as in recent weeks. With Vettel too short to back we have to look for some value further down the grid and Fernando Alonso is tempting at 11/1 with those bookies only going two places for each way backers. You can have 8/1 if you want the insurance of a third place and that looks like a bet to nothing to me. Alternatively you can back Alonso at 3/1 without Vettel, Hamilton leads that market at 13/8, which will appeal to some. In the points market we have a dozen drivers trading at odds on and the best value amongst those has to be Sergio Perez, he finished in front of his team mate Jensen Button and has been pretty steady of late in a car that isn’t helping him much. I think in the race he could get in front of the Sauber’s and starts in the points anyway thanks to Webber’s demotion. Selections: 1pt EW Alonso 8/1
