Stratford 16.35 The opener at Stratford on Tuesday can go the way of the Philip Hobbs trained 8-year-old Patesse. After being heavily tried over hurdles, including winning a Class 2 Handicap Hurdle at Cheltenham last year, he's reverted to the larger fences and although not shown the same sort of form as he did over hurldes just yet he ran well on the same mark at Newton Abbot last time out over 2m 5 ½ furlongs in a Class 3 contest. Beaten a head by the winner Dineur, the horse came with every chance in the back straight but didn't jump as fluently as Dineur and was caught as they approached the line. He drops back into Class 4 company and should find the task at hand slightly easier here. Patesse won a Class 4 Chase over 3m at Ffos Las back in April on Good to Soft ground so the horse should appreciate the extra 1 ½ furlongs in trip and conditions look suitable. The only slight concern would be the horses jumping but with the capable Richard Johnson on board he should take all the beating. Sail And Return is another who could go well under Sam Twiston-Davies, but again his jumping over the larger obstacles hasn’t been great and he will need to improve to get involved at the business end of the race. 17.05 At a current best price of 2/5 you could argue that Killyglass is too short at the top of the market for his debut over hurdles, but he has been impressive enough on his three starts in National Hunt flat races to suggest there is a successful career ahead of him over timber. After winning by 4 ¼ lengths on debut over 2 miles at Wexford he made the switch to Emma Lavelle’s stable and finished 5^th in Listed company over the same trip at Newbury next time out on soft ground. On his latest start, Killyglass was stepped up in grade and trip when entered for the Grade 2 John Smith’s Champion Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race over 2m 1f on Aintree’s Grand National Card. Despite being sent off at 20/1 the horse travelled well towards the rear of the field and made steady headway around the outside, when asked to quicken by Noel Fehily on board he swept past the field and looked like going clear of the remainder, inside the final furlong he was slowly getting pegged back by the 2^nd placed Vago Collonges but he battled games to score by ½ a length. Emma Lavelle could have an exciting novice hurdler on her hands in Killyglass and today looks like an ideal opportunity for him to get off the mark at the first time of asking over hurdles. Kettlewell beat an odds-on favourite last time out when beating the 2012 Weatherby’s Champion Bumper runner up New Years Eve over course and distance last month and could be the one for punters looking for a bit more value in a forecast. 17.35 Seven runners are set to go to post for the 3^rd race on the card and you could make a case for most, but it could pay to take a chance on Rime Avec Gentil who has done the majority of his racing over hurdles, winning twice over 2m 1f and once over the 2m trip. He returns to chasing here having only one race over the larger jumps to date and that came back in May 2011 at Tipperary over 2m 7f when he was pulled up. The ground was likely too quick for him that day and the distance stretched him. Since that effort he’s dropped back in trip for all his races bar one at Naas and the selection has looked more comfortable around the 2m – 2m 1f distance. Paul Moloney is an eye catching jockey booking, riding the horse for the first time. With ticks in most boxes, if he adapts to chasing he could go well at a nice price. Julie Prince is a worthy favourite after winning at Huntingdon last time out, but this looks like a tougher race and he may find life tougher, especially with an 8lb rise in the weights to contend with. 18.05 The fourth race on the card is a competitive Class 3 Handicap Hurdle which can go to Vinnie My Boy who is returning to his optimum trip and can make amends for a couple of below-par efforts recently as long as the rain stays away from Stratford. Trainer Peter Bowen has previously said that the horse is better on fast ground and if the going stays Good it should suit. With 14 runs to his name, the 5-year-old has been consistent, winning three of his races and finishing 2^nd and 3^rd twice each. His strike rate has dropped slightly after his two most recent efforts over 3 miles. On both occasions he weakened in the later stages of the race, suggesting that the drop back in trip was just around the corner. Prior to those efforts he won over course and distance by 20 lengths in a Class 5 Handicap Hurdle, the runner up Dreamsoftheatre has gone on to complete a hat trick of wins including a Class 4 race, the 4^th placed Moorlands Jack has also gone on to win in better company when winning by 4 ½ lengths in a Handicap Chase at Worcester last week. Although this is likely to be Vinnie My Boy’s toughest race to date and he needs to bounce back from his recent efforts, his win here in July puts him in with every chance and he should be there or thereabouts at the finish. 18.35 Al Alfa has looked like he has plenty of potential chasing following his first two efforts, winning first time round at Warwick over 3m ½f and he then followed that up finishing runner up to Whispering Jack at Kempton over a slightly shorter distance. Both those runs were on Soft ground in Class 4 company and although it’s been 185 days since his last race he keeps the same mark of 112 as the race at Kempton and with a furlong less to contend with, Al Alfa looks the one to beat for the Philip Hobbs and Richard Johnson partnership. 19.05 AP McCoy can send punters home happy in the ‘lucky last’ when he takes the ride on Chalk It Down in the Class 6 Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race over 2 miles. There isn’t a massive amount of form for the majority of these, with five horses making their debut and a further five only having their second race. Chalk It Down is the only previous winner in the field after he won on his debut at Newton Abbot last month over 2m 1f in a Class 5 contest. Sent off the 8/11 favourite, he tracked the leader What A Joke for the majority of the race before cruising to the front in the home straight. Jockey Noel Fehily gave him a slight push inside the final furlong to send him clear and he beat What A Joke by 2 ¾ lengths. The form of that race has been strengthened since with the 3^rd placed Hazel Brook winning next time out after the first past the post was disqualified. Following the race, the selection was purchased by leading National Hunt owner J P McManus. Of the remainder, In A Heartbeat was placed over course and distance on her debut 10 days ago and although stepping up in class, she could improve now she has racecourse experience.

Re: Jump Racing - Tuesday 17th September 6.15 Listowel Jansboy 20/1 Ladbrokes BOG Jansboy has his first run over hurdles today after 7 runs in bumpers. Although 6 of those were bad runs he hinted at ability when 2nd at Killarney on soft ground which means he will go on the ground today. The stable could not be in better form and had an impressive winner here on Sunday. It's probably a case of now or never for him. The opposition is moderate but you can make a case for 6 others many of whom have form on fast ground only. Of those Fire Belt looks to have the most scope, although Park Ranger who is a course winner is also respected. 5 Points e/w Jansboy 20/1 Ladbrokes BOG
