The Champions League gets underway in less than a week's time. No English sides in it this year but some decent sides have made it. It is all live on Eurosport and should be a good 3 weeks of T20 cricket. Schedule: [TABLE=width: 630]

Re: Champions League T20 2013 Such a shame no English sides this year. Northamptonshire could have done some carefree, belligerent damage I reckon ! After some debate I did 3/10 on chennai at 3/1 with skybet. I think they have them 11/4 now. It is a small price but I can't help but think they are the best side in it, with a point to prove after they lost to Mumbai in the ipl final. Indian teams have a good record in this comp when it has been held there. Mumbai a man short with malinga off on compassionate leave. I think csk have the skills and motivation. Also 1/10 e/w on the Highveld Lions at 14/1, stan James. They are admittedly off-patch but I think this is a fair price on last year's runners up. Reckon some hard cricket is played in the Ram Slam, they strike me as a group of tough nuts and I think / hope they have a decent chance of getting out of their group. A few buttone e/w also on kandurata maroons at 33/1, sportingbet. Think you can get 25/1 still with coral. Don't think a team from outside of India/SA/Aus has ever won this, they have to get through the qualifiers, and they are a makeshift outfit cobbled together after the SLPL fell through this year. Ie they have no chance on paper. But I do feel they have some good cricketers amongst their ranks - Sanga must have chosen them for a reason - and perhaps they can spring a surprise in sub-continent conditions. Or maybe not ! Should be a good comp, and best of luck to all.

Re: Champions League T20 2013 Without meaning to monopolise the thread, one more I liked: Top Faisalabad Wolves team runscorer: Misbah ul Haq, 3/1 bet365. 1.5/10. The favourite in this market, and therefore not a very imaginative choice. But am hoping the cream will rise over the course of three games ( maybe more if they qualify for the competition proper ). Was top overall runscorer in the Pakistan domestic 'Super 8' comp, and has been in great nick in white ball cricket for Pakistan in recent times ( 2nd most runs in the ODI series vs Zimbabwe, and top vs Windies in the ODI series prior to that for example ). In the interests of balance, he did seem to bat 4 or 5 in the Super 8 comp, and someone higher up the order might be preferred in theory. He is on a good trot though, and has a lot more experience of playing abroad than most of the other batsmen in the team meaning he can hopefully perform without needing much time for adjustment. I think the price about him is fair here and I will give him a go. Good luck guys.

Re: Champions League T20 2013 Good luck Marshy. We think alike with one :ok. Tournament preview: 1pt ew Trinidad & Tobago to win Champions League T20 20/1 Skybet (1/3 1-2) The Caribbean boys will be looking to replicate their run to the final of this tournament in the first year it was played and maybe even go one better and I think their chances of that are quite good. You always have to take a chance that any Caribbean side’s batting will hold up but if it does, and with the likes of Adrian Barath, Darren Bravo, Lendl Simmons and Denesh Ramdin in it there’s no reason why it shouldn’t, then they have the bowling firepower to go very well. Sunil Narine has tormented the world’s best in the last couple of IPL’s while Samuel Badree is hard to get away. Ravi Rampaul and Shannon Gabriel are good seamers too. Although T&T are without Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo in this tournament they still have enough to be major players. 1pt ew Kandurata Maroons to win Champions League T20 25/1 Coral (1/2 1-2) I think Kandurata Maroons have a good chance in this tournament. Not only do I think they’ll qualify but they’ll rustle a few feathers when they do too. Crucially the pressure of the Sri Lankan board for Kumar Sangakkara to be loyal has paid off as he lines up for the Maroons and does so alongside a talented squad which includes the likes of Upul Tharanga, Lahiru Thirimanne, Nuwan Kulasekera and Ajantha Mendis among others. In fact bar one or two it is close enough to the Sri Lanka national side. They should love Indian conditions and with plenty of batting and spin for fun don’t be surprised if the little known Maroons do some real damage. Along with Trinidad & Tobago they look the best value in this tournament. Re: Champions League T20 2013 Top Faisalabad Tournament Batsman preview: 3pts M.Ul-Haq Top Faisalabad Tournament Batsman 3/1 Stan James Misbah Ul Haq is clearly the standout player in this side and I think at 3/1 he is a more than worthy favourite to lead this young batting line up with runs. Misbah comes in here warm after just finishing a tour of Zimbabwe with Pakistan, a tour where once again he scored good runs. He has scored runs for fun all year for Pakistan whether it be in England, West Indies or Zimbabwe and he seems to be getting better. He is a master of pacing innings to perfection and is underrated as a big hitter. Whether the Wolves have three games or more I’d be surprised if Misbah isn’t their top tournament runscorer. Re: Champions League T20 2013 Game one preview: 3pts Faisalabad Wolves to beat Otago Volts 6/5 Coral Conditions are unlikely to suit the New Zealanders in this match, certainly with the ball and I’m quite surprised they are the favourites for this match. They went well in a warm up match but this is completely different. You have to go a long way in any form of the game and any tournament to find a weak Pakistan bowling attack, they just rarely exist so if the likes of Misbah and Asif Ali can put some runs up I would expect the Wolves to win this. Re: Champions League T20 2013 Game two preview: 4pts Sunrisers Hyderabad Most 6s vs Kandurata 10/11 BetVictor I think this match will be a lot closer than people think but one area of the game I’m not sure will be so close is the sixes match. I expect that to be won by the Sunrisers. They have some fearsome hitters of a cricket ball in the form of Cameron White, Thissara Perera and Darren Sammy while with Dale Steyn around their attack looks fine too. Sri Lankan’s aren’t known for big hitting so expect the Sunrisers to hit the most sixes here. Re: Champions League T20 2013 Cheers Kev, and the same to you. Thought your points about csk and lions in your write up were fair. Think I got a bit carried away really. Shame about Maroons today. Thought they'd scored enough but it must be a decent pitch to be chasing on judging by both results. Not dead yet but need to win last two now with an eye on nrr. I doubled up on them this morning as well after I saw that four of the squad played in the World T20 final last year. At least Misbah got a decent start :)

Re: Champions League T20 2013 Tbh mate until I really delved deep into it I was with the Lions myself. I was always swerving Chennai because they did me up in the IPL and I'm a once bitten twice shy kind of guy :lol. The good thing from a Kandurata point of view is they've got what I would consider the certain qualifiers out of the way. Will need to win their last two but no reason why that can't happen. And if anything coming second in this qualifying group might be the way to go. They'd go into the Chennai group which looks much easier than the other one.

Re: Champions League T20 2013 Crap first day. Day two previews: 5pts Otago Volts Most 6s vs Kandurata Maroons 5/6 William Hill It will be interesting to see how this one pans out but I think the best bet could well be Otago hitting the most sixes. Kandurata killed me with the sixes on Tuesday but they only hit three against the Sunrisers but that was enough. You’d think they would need more in this match because New Zealand batsmen swing from the hip in this format with these boundaries being way too small for the likes of Hamish Rutherford and Brendon McCullum and we never even saw Jimmy Neesham. There’s enough here to suggest Otago to hit the most sixes is a good thing. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/kandurata-maroons-vs-otago-volts-betting-otago-can-bash-the-most-sixes-in-wednesday-s-opener 4pts Faisalabad vs Hyderabad - Over 35.5 boundaries 5/6 William Hill There isn’t a lot which catches my eye in this match but I do like the look of there being over 35.5 boundaries here. Although Faisalabad stunk the place out with the bat on Tuesday they did at least smack 20 boundaries and on this ground once you’ve beaten the infield it is four. Sunrisers hit boundaries for fun. Both matches on Tuesday saw this line covered and this is another match where it can be covered on a ground renowned for good batting decks. Got to love it when you place the wrong bet, but win. Did this bet with Bet365 but didn't check properly and placed it on the match instead:D Thanks!

Re: Champions League T20 2013 Haven't won a single bet in this comp yet. Though Maroons will bounce back today, but their poor bowling went on... so they deserve to stay out. I give no chance to Wolves, but they will bat first. I wish they could get a nice total and bet on decent odds in the Indian side.

Re: Champions League T20 2013 Friday previews: 4pts Kandurata vs Faisalabad - Under 35.5 boundaries 5/6 William Hill Faisalabad’s batting issues don’t look like they are going to be sorted overnight and so I expect this to be a lower scoring game. Both sides have plenty of spin options to slow down the scoring and keep the boundary count low and unless Faisalabad improve dramatically to me then at least one half of the match will be low scoring. That can keep the boundary count down below 35.5. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/faisalabad-wolves-vs-kandurata-maroons-betting-boundaries-will-be-few-and-far-between-in-friday-s-opener 3pts Otago to beat Sunrisers Hyderabad 6/4 Ladbrokes Otago go into this match on an unbeaten run of 14 matches which is pretty impressive in this format. This will be the hardest game they have had in that run but there’s nothing I’ve seen to suggest they should be as big as 6/4 here. They look a solid unit who all know their roles and at 6/4 they’re a decent price to see off the impressive looking Sunrisers. Re: Champions League T20 2013 Saturday preview: 4pts Rajasthan Royals to beat Mumbai Indians 6/5 BetVictor Given their exceptional record on this ground I have to go with the Rajasthan Royals in this match. It wasn’t just last season they played well here, they have done ever since the IPL was played here. With the likes of Watson, Hodge, Faulkner and Tait in their side the Royals have plenty of firepower to get the job done here and with Mumbai missing Malinga they just look more vulnerable to me. Re: Champions League T20 2013 Couple of top tournament batsmen bets for me. 1pt ew B.McCullum Top Tournament Batsman 22/1 Paddy Power (1/4 1-4) Brendon McCullum has already scored 158 runs in this tournament and although they don't count for this market they do show us that the New Zealander is in fantastic form right now. We've seen McCullum bash the world's best bowlers all around India in the Indian Premier League in the past and he's already started doing it in this tournament. Otago play three of their group matches in Jaipur which should be to Bmac's liking because the pace and bounce in that wicket will allow him to play his shots. Otago look a decent side who can qualify for the semi finals at least in my eyes and if they are to do that we can expect their captain to continue filling his boots over the next couple of weeks. 1pt ew N.McKenzie Top Tournament Batsman 50/1 Paddy Power (1/4 1-4) Bit of a nostalgic punt this one for me but at the price it is one I'm more than happy to place. We've seen in the Friends Life t20 how McKenzie handles slower and lower conditions and we've also seen how he scores an amazing amount of runs with little risk which is almost against the grain in this format. McKenzie will have played in and handled Indian conditions in the past so there's no reason why he can't go well this year and if last year's runners up are to get anywhere near repeating that then their experienced top order batsman will need to score a few runs. McKenzie can show his class on the world stage at a big price here.

Re: Champions League T20 2013 Sunday previews: 4pts T&T to beat Brisbane Heat 11/10 Ladbrokes As long as the Trinidad batsmen score runs here, which I think they will, I expect Trinidad to win this match. Brisbane are missing a lot of players from their Big Bash League winning side with Luke Pomersbach a huge miss at the top of the order. I thought their batting looked a bit weak in that tournament, it certainly does without him so I’ll take the Caribbean champions to open their campaign with a win here. I don’t think he’ll disappoint them either. Dhoni has a performance line set at 39pts which I think he’ll cover. This wicket will turn, more so as it is the second match of the day, while he is as good a limited overs batsman as you’ll find. A stumping reduces this target dramatically but he can still cover it with the bat. Re: Champions League T20 2013 Another outright too. 2pts D.Christian Top Brisbane Heat Tournament Batsman 7/1 Stan James As most people will know I'm not a huge Dan Christian fan but the one thing he has over a lot of his teammates in this tournament is history of playing in America. He's a slightly more rounded batsman now in that he at least gets himself in before he plays the big shots and I think that's all you can ask for from an all rounder known more for big hitting than anything else. This Heat side are going to really miss Shane Watson and Luke Pomersbach in this tournament and that leaves the door open for someone lower down the order to do the business. Joe Burns is the favourite in this market but he left Leicestershire's shambles of a season with an injury so we take his word for it that he is fit again. Chris Lynn would rate as the danger but given that Christian has plenty of IPL experience I'll take him at a big price here.

Re: Champions League T20 2013 Monday previews: 4pts Highveld Lions to beat Perth Scorchers 4/5 Ladbrokes I’m not convinced by either of these sides in terms of their prospects for the tournament but someone’s got to win this match and by virtue of the fact they have the better bowling attack I will side with the Lions here. They have enough batsmen who can put up runs but as I’ve always said this format is all about the better bowling attack. That belongs to the South Africans and so will my cash. I really wasn’t impressed with the Mumbai Indians in the first match. I expect this to be something of a high scoring shootout but by virtue of that fact that all the pressure is on the Indian side in this match I think the Kiwis are worth a go at 6/4. They look to be playing with confidence and can pick up another win in this one. Re: Champions League T20 2013 Tuesday previews: 4pts Brisbane Heat to beat Titans 11/8 Coral Titans batted very well against Chennai but even allowing for the dew you’d have to be very concerned with how they bowled. They were atrocious. Even if they are better in that discipline here I think the Heat will prefer facing their bowling attack than the one they struggled against when they played T&T. They were undone with spin on that occasion having bowled very well but the Titans don’t have an out and out quality spinner so the pace on the ball could just be to the Heat’s liking here. My gut feeling is that Trinidad & Tobago are a shade big but I think the better bet is for there to be under 9.5 6s. Both sides have very good bowling attacks while Sunrisers only hit seven sixes in three matches on this ground in qualifying. I would suggest this is the best attack they’ve faced so far too. Trinidad lack a bit with the bat but make up for it with the ball so I don’t see 10 sixes coming in this one. Re: Champions League T20 2013 Two more for the early game. 4pts Brisbane vs Titans - Over 9.5 6s 10/11 Paddy Power We saw the Titans go six crazy on the Chennai Super Kings at the weekend and on this tiny Mohali ground they should be capable of doing the same here. Although de Villiers did most of the hitting against Chennai the Titans have other hitters in the form of Davids, Behardien, Wiese and van der Merwe. Brisbane's batsmen can hit a long ball as well so I think we'll see plenty of big hits on what looked a tiny ground throughout the qualifying section. 1pt F.Behardien Top Titans Batsman 7/1 Bet365 Farhaan Behardien batted at four in the first match for the Titans and I don't expect him to bat any lower here so 7/1 looks a big price, especially if someone like Roach or Cutting can sort out de Villiers early on. Even if they don't Behardien is a South African international who can score quickly which makes him look a big price for another reason. Although there's hitters all the way down this Titans line up their out and out batsmen pretty much run out after Behardien so if one or two above him fail against the explosive Heat opening bowlers then we should get a very good run for our money at a very attractive price.

Re: Champions League T20 2013 Two more for the second game today. 3pts Highest Individual score - Under 55 runs 11/4 Stan James Having watched half a dozen overs of the first match this doesn't look an easy wicket to score on so after there has been 40 overs on it I don't expect it to get any easier to score on. Both bowling attacks in this match are very good and apart from one or two exceptions the batting line ups could be better so I would expect this to be a low scoring game. Given that I think the price on nobody making 55 runs looks very much on the high side to me. 1pt D.Sammy Top Sunrisers Batsman 12/1 Stan James With this wicket likely to have a bit in it for the new ball and tricky to score on throughout the game it could just be that a Darren Sammy cameo of slogging is the right approach and comes off enough to land a top score punt at a decent price. He'll have faced everyone in this T&T attack on a number of occasions so he'll have that advantage over the rest of his teammates. Obviously the likes of Dhawan and Duminy would rate as major dangers but if Rampaul and co can do some damage at the top then the St Lucian could be the one to profit from it come the end.

Re: Champions League T20 2013 Wednesday previews: 4pts Otago to beat Perth 8/11 Betfred I like Otago in this match. I think they have the better bowling attack of the two and they have a batting line up that if any of their three aggressors come off for a few overs then they could be out of sight. Perth may well go well with the bat but their bowling attack and the make up of it looks unlikely to be suited by this wicket. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/perth-scorchers-vs-otago-volts-betting-otago-can-continue-their-momentum-in-jaipur 2pts S.Samson Top Rajasthan Royals Batsman 9/2 BetVictor It’s hard to go against the Royals on this ground and I’m not going to even though the Lions are a tempting price. Another tempting price is Sanju Samson to top score for the Indian side. Samson shot to prominence in the IPL and looked in excellent touch in the opening game. Rajasthan seem to like him coming in first drop so at 9/2 he looks a nice price to go well again. Have I been sold down the river with this information as well? Looks like it after the first 10 overs.

Re: Champions League T20 2013 I agreed with what Kev said to be honest,I had two parlays which both just needed under 8.5 6's in the 2nd game last night...It looked a safe bet considering the first match was so low scoring but at the halfway stage of the 2nd match with them needing 4 sixes I knew the bet was in the bin...

Re: Champions League T20 2013 Thursday preview: 5pts Chennai vs Hyderabad - Over 9.5 6s 8/11 Paddy Power Given the huge amounts of dew likely to be around in this match I can’t be betting on the match outcome before the toss because whoever wins it will chase and will have a significant advantage. The dew should mean a few pies get slung down though and that should in turn lead to plenty of sixes on a ground which isn’t terribly big. We saw 7 in the first game here on Sunday when 135 played 110 and 16 in the later game. Another 10 is very likely.
