Qualifying Betting for pole position gets more and more predictable and this week Vettel is just ahead of Hamilton at the head of the market. Funny things can happen in qualifying but you can’t complain about the consistency of Mercedes and Hamilton in particular who has grabbed the last three pole positions after sluggish practice sessions. I think Vettel will confirm his pace on Saturday this time and take the number one slot on the grid and although he’s not a great price it does look a two car race really so 6/4 is not that terrible if you think about it. I usually like to put a more speculative bet up for each way backers and this week it has to be Alonso in his Ferrari, he was very quick this morning and while he’s not got a great record in qualifying he knows he must get close to the front of the grid this week at the teams home GP and hopefully he can make the second row at least. Italian GP I think Vettel will be very difficult to beat to be honest but 4/7 is not my kind of price, he should be protected by team mate Webber and can only see Alonso as a danger and that’s if he can get a decent start, which is he has done on many occasions. Most bookies are only betting on the first two for each way purposes, as they often do when we have a long odds on favourite. Skybet are going 1,2,3 but the prices will reflect that and I think its worth backing Alonso at the bigger odds each way. No value in the points market this week due to some top drivers starting outside the top ten, Vergne is the first driver at odds against and he’s the 13^th in the list so it may pay to back Jensen Button to finish in the top six at a more realistic price. He is very steady these days and is good with his strategy and could come through late on. Selections: 2pts EW F.Alonso 6/1
