Re: 2013/14 Aviva Premiership London Irish Saracens London Irish are expected to struggle this year and lost a few handy players in the off-season in Joseph, Shingler and especially Corbisiero. Corbs' mentioned that he wanted to move to a club that matched his ambition, which doesn't say a lot for LI's aspirations. The Exiles home games were high scoring affairs and their home performance was average with 6 wins, a draw and 4 losses. The losses were to Gloucester, Exeter, Harlequins and Leicester by 9, 4, 3 and 22 respectively. Saracens were there or thereabouts as they have been for the last few years. It's the sign of a settled squad to have so few transfers in/out and the quality coming in is notable (Bosch, Johnston from Quins and the other Vunipola). I expect they'll go far in Europe and will be in with a shout for another title. Their away record last season was one of the best with 7 wins by an average of 8.6. Taking out the smashing of Bath by 22-0 that drops to 6.3. They lost this fixture last season by 29-16 in a shock win, but Saracens were missing some internationals to the 6N by then. I would have Saracens favourite for this game by 5 or so. They only beat -12 once away last season and LI only lost to it once at home. It's too much of a headstart on the opening day of the campaign and i'll gladly take it. London Irish +12 @ 1.91

Re: 2013/14 Aviva Premiership Saracens Leicester Saracens going really well in the league, look like the best bet for the title this season. Do think they’ve had it easy enough though: apart from impressive wins against Gloucester and Bath, they’ve not had the strongest of opposition and Toulouse turned them over in the Heineken Cup. Without Strettle tomorrow but Wyles & Goode return in a strong XV with a formidable bench. Leicester looked dodgy for a bit but showed their intent with two great wins vs Montpellier. 50% record away from home in the Aviva, haven’t lost by 14 in the league for a long time. Decent recent H2H vs Saracens, especially in London – last two meetings were a 9-9 draw and 19-20 to Leicester. Bit weakened by Flood’s injury and some rested players from the Euro round but plenty of muscle on the bench. Given Saracens form I was expected -9 or so but -14 against the champions is a bit much. I think it’s worth a punt. Leicester +14 @ 1.9

Re: 2013/14 Aviva Premiership Bath Saracens Bath are having a great season and are up to third now. Unbeaten at home they have a strong squad and are competing well in the Amlin & Anglo Welsh Cup. Saracens looking really good too. Won all but one game away in the Aviva and along with Northampton are the team to beat. Moved on from last season where they were defensively sound but didn’t score as much tries. Looking at the stats Saracens have beaten everyone away but Northampton, which is also the only other game the bookies’ had them as underdogs. They beat the handicap in 71% of those games and 66% overall, indicating that they’re performing well above expectations. Bath have an easier set of fixtures coming up than Saracens so this is the time to put in a performance establishing their credentials. Saracens done the double over them in the last three seasons. Despite Saracens quality, I am backing Bath to win here. A very settled squad with big ambitions, they are playing Saracens at the right time who are missing a few internationals. I expect it to be a low scoring match, but Bath have had strong 1st halves to their home games so provided they start well, they can narrow the gap to second. Bath win by 1-12 @ 2.5

Re: 2013/14 Aviva Premiership Bath Sale I haven’t tipped too many winners on this thread or in my own betting but I’m willing to stick my neck out on a close game Friday night. Bath won well against at London Irish last week who flattered to deceive. Seems they’re the real deal being well poised to make the playoffs and could go far in the Amlin too with a nice draw. Wouldn’t have thought the same of Sale at the start of the year but Diamond has done well in getting all the glitz away from the club and getting lads like Cipriani to get the finger out and perform. Little disruption to either teamsheet with one change apiece: the excellent Louw is hurt for Bath and Ostrikov swaps places with Mills on the bench for Sale. Do think we’re in for a good game tomorrow and Sale haven’t wilted away from home often this year, losing by 13+ against Quins & Saints, losing by 1-12 vs Saracens & Leicester and winning the other 4 games. Bath won all their home games bar the Saracens visit and with forecasted wet weather I don’t think it will be a rout. Bath covered a -7 in 3/8 at home and Sale covered +7 in 6/8 away. Sale +8.5 @ 1.91 Bet365

Re: 2013/14 Aviva Premiership I like an Exeter/Wasps doublé today, cant see Sale coping down in Sandy Park today, losing to Quins a real blow to them and expect Exeter to pile on some more misery, Exeter by 10 plus. Gloucs have had a traumatic 2 weeks and it will be a struggle for them again today to recover. Wasps know how to beat them, gave Leicester a fright last week despite resting players, Wasps to win with a bit in hand, match doublé and also hándicap dble

Re: 2013/14 Aviva Premiership Gloucester London Irish I think Gloucester are well overrated here. With everyone having had a week’s break there’s no reason to think there will be blowouts by teams who’ve had no precedent of doing so. Gloucester have beaten only 3/10 handicaps at home in the Aviva and haven’t been impressive with their much vaunted back division no great shakes when it comes to conceding tries. London Irish are an iffy team to be betting on with a lot of inconsistency on the road (beating Saracens away but losing by 13+ margins to Bath, Quins, Noton and Exeter). With no pressure on either side I think the Exiles will come out to play and with Gloucester not having beaten the 10.5 all season I think it’s worth a small play. London Irish +10.5 @ 1.90

Re: 2013/14 Aviva Premiership Sale Leicester That Sale have gone from being basement dwellers to potential playoff side in a year may seem amazing but maybe it was just they needed a year for Steve Diamond to establish how he wanted them to play (they finished 6th in 2011/12). Their defence has been excellent all season and Cip’s is on the back pages for the right reasons. Working with Steve Black has clearly had all the intended effects. Leicester are coming good at the right time with Williams keeping them safe in the knowledge Toby won’t be missed. Tuilagi, Parling and Tait coming back for the run in is a huge bonus and they could be a good shout for a late title challenge. Looking at the previous head to heads, Leicester have won the last 7 and do have the experience at the business end of the season Sale will be lacking now. Having said that I don’t think Sale will be blown out here with the performances they’ve been putting in. Do think there is value in them getting a losing bonus point out of this game minimum. Would have looked at the Leicester 1-12 but not happy with the odds available (best of 2.62). Sale +6.5 @ 1.90
