Caribbean Premier League 2013

The newest T20 league kicks off in the early hours of Wednesday morning. From Friday morning onwards the Caribbean Premier League will be live on the new BT Sport channels in the UK so this tournament has more coverage than the event it is replacing. Some big names are on show and the West Indians always play T20 the right way so it should be a good watch. Schedule: [TABLE=width: 630]

Re: Caribbean Premier League 2013 Tournament preview: 3pts Jamaica Tallawahs to win Caribbean Premier League 9/2 Paddy Power It is hard to ignore any T20 side with Chris Gayle in it but it isn’t just Gayle who make the Jamaica Tallawahs look attractive. They have a couple of good spin options and plenty of batting depth around Gayle not to mention quality seamers in the shape of Vernon Philander, Andre Russell and Ravi Rampaul. Jamaica are as well balanced as any side and at 9/2 they can land the inaugural title out in the Caribbean. Re: Caribbean Premier League 2013 Game one preview: 3pts St Lucia Zouks to beat Barbados Tridents Evs Ladbrokes Darren Sammy is a pretty good captain in this format of the game and the Zouks have plenty of experience in their side so I like the look of them here. Kieron Pollard didn’t look the best of captains when he played in the tri-series for the West Indies recently and I have one or two doubts about the strength of their batting. St Lucia look well balanced and at even money look a fair call here. Re: Caribbean Premier League 2013 Best of luck as always, mate. I also took Jamaica when the markets came up yesterday. Had been keeping an eye out for prices for a little while and was pleasantly surprised to see them at 9/2. Like you, I thought their squad list looked the most attractive when the auction was made in early June. ( albeit Rampaul is now apparently injured ). To an extent I think you have to leave aside the 'icon' players, as one man alone can't win a comp. What I liked about them is not only the 'pool a' and international 'pool b' players you mention, but also the domestic 'pool b' and 'pool c' lads. Having followed the domestic comp earlier in the year I recognised a few of those guys. Chadwick Walton was fifth on the runs list in that comp playing for the Combined Colleges, and then 5th again in the 4 day comp runs list. Nkrumah Bonner is a full international, as is Danza Hyatt. Not to suggest they are they only good local players in the comp but they will hopefully provide some depth. My main reservation with them is Gayle's captaincy, but he showed earlier in the year he can devastate the local bowlers even when on a bad trot at international level. And at least he is from the right Island ! Have also had a saver on Guyana, they do admittedly lack star names but I was thinking they could be this comp's Brisbane and make progress on the back of some unspectacular cricket. Their record in the previous incarnation was also pretty good although there is a limit to how much that counts for now. 6/1 on bet365. Agree T&T are worth opposing with so many of that winning team missing, and if nothing else for the 'Red Steel' name ( was that Zoolander ?! ). Anyway best of luck all, hopefully it will be a good tourney.

Re: Caribbean Premier League 2013 Agree with all of that mate. I focused on the main players but you're right I should have mentioned the Danza Hyatt's of this world. I think man for man Jamaica stand up to anyone albeit it is a blow that Rampaul is out injured. Good luck with Guyana. I've a sneaky feel that St Lucia could be dark horses but I'm sticking with my Jamaica fancy.

Re: Caribbean Premier League 2013 Game two preview: 3pts Guyana Amazon Warriors to beat Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel 13/10 Bet365 Guyana look a big price to me here. They have a very well balanced side which should go very well on their home patch. Trinidad have lost a lot of the power in their batting which was often what made them so formidable and they look a much weaker side for it even allowing for the signing of Ross Taylor. I can’t help but feel these prices are based on historical records in the other T20 competition now the here and now so I’ll take Guyana here. Re: Caribbean Premier League 2013 Game three preview: 4pts Barbados vs Antigua - Over 8.5 6s 5/6 William Hill I think we’ll see a lot of big hits in this match. The Barbados batsmen have had a game in the middle while Antigua bring a lot of power with them. The wicket is always good at Barbados as we saw in the World T20 a few years ago. It has pace and bounce so the batsmen can play their shots. With the hitters on show here we should see at least nine sixes. Re: Caribbean Premier League 2013 Game four preview: 4pts Jamaica Most 6s vs Guyana 11/10 William Hill It is a little surprising that Guyana are the favourites for this match but they have played a game which should be a bit of an advantage and they looked good in it. Instead of taking Jamaica to win the match I’ll take them to hit the most sixes at the same price. If Chris Gayle gets going the sixes battle won’t be a contest but in Shehzad, Hyatt and Russell the Tallawahs have other hitters should Gayle not come off and that can be enough to hit the most sixes here. Re: Caribbean Premier League 2013

You still there Kev? How we looking with 3 sixes in this low total...Worth hedging?
Hopefully they just knock it around considering they only need 5 an over but they're not showing much signs of doing that at the minute :wall

Re: Caribbean Premier League 2013 Game five preview: 3pts Barbados to beat Trinidad & Tobago Evs Boylesports This should be a good match but there’s no doubt that Trinidad & Tobago’s side are going to miss Pollard, Simmons and Narine. They did in the first match and that isn’t a surprise. Barbados look like a settled side and are playing well. Their batsmen like a bit of pace in the wicket and they get that here and so I see no reason why their powerful batting line up can’t make it a hat trick of wins for Barbados here. Re: Caribbean Premier League 2013 Crazy game. Good result mind you :cow. Game six preview: 4pts Jamaica to beat Antigua 4/5 Betfred Clearly spin bowling is going to be a major factor in this match. With Murali, Nikita Miller and even Chris Gayle the Tallawahs edge that particular battle and I think man for man they have the better batting line up as well. Antigua will need their quicks to do some damage with the new ball but that is a dangerous tactic as Gayle often feasts on the quicker bowlers. Jamaica look to hold all the cards here so I like them to win this. Re: Caribbean Premier League 2013 Game seven preview: 3pts Guyana vs St Lucia - Highest Individual Score - Under 55 runs 6/4 Stan James We’ve seen how hard this wicket can be to score on already in this tournament not to mention how hard it is to score against Guyana and with this being the second match on this wicket that is likely to be highlighted even more. With both sides have decent bowling attacks I think this could be a lower scoring game than we might normally expect so the highest score could well be below 55 in this one. Re: Caribbean Premier League 2013 I've had a nibble on Jamaica to bt TnT, Even money on paddy power. An away fixture for Jamaica but the track at Port of Spain could suit their spinners and the hosts got completely turned over at the weekend. Jamaica's top order batting was pretty solid in winning their previous game and all things considered I wouldn't have them as the outsider for this match. Best of luck all.

Re: Caribbean Premier League 2013 Game eight preview: 4pts St Lucia Most 6s vs Antigua Evs BetVictor St Lucia look a big price at even money to hit the most sixes in this match. In their line up they have the likes of Andre Fletcher, Herschelle Gibbs, Albie Morkel, Misbah-ul-Haq and Darren Sammy and they all hit a long ball. Their attack is hard to get away too. The previously free scoring Guyana could only get them away for three sixes which St Lucia trumped easily and I expect similar here, particularly if Johnson Charles and Marlon Samuels continue to struggle. Re: Caribbean Premier League 2013 So annoying. Were level inside 3 overs and couldn't hit one more with the power in their batting line up in the next 17 overs :wall. I should probably leave that market alone after two ties in various comps on Tuesday but I'm going in again! Game nine preview: 3pts Trinidad & Tobago Most 6s vs Jamaica 17/10 Paddy Power We’re yet to see the best of the Trinidad & Tobago side but we might see more from them here in conditions which should suit them. I’m still not sure I would trust them to win the match though. I do think they could hit the most sixes however. Of course it is always risky taking Chris Gayle on in a sixes battle but he’s not in the best of form and the only out and out Caribbean style hitter the Tallawahs have other than him is Andre Russell. T&T have both Bravo’s, Taylor, O’Brien and the keeper walloped six off his own bat against Guyana so there’s enough hitting power to suggest the hosts are overpriced at 17/10 to hit the most sixes here. Re: Caribbean Premier League 2013 Good luck gentlemen, you deserve some after that bizarre result last night. I had been thinking Port of Spain was reasonably friendly to the spinners, but I am happy to stand corrected on that. A nice price on Trinis in either case :)

Re: Caribbean Premier League 2013 Good shout with Jamaica, Marshy :ok. These sixes ties are getting on my nerves now :wall. Game ten preview: 4pts Barbados to beat St Lucia 8/11 Skybet Barbados’ balance is very impressive and they look like they’ll be a good side in any conditions. This probably hasn’t been the tournament for odds on shots but I do like the look of them. They won the opening game a shade easier than the scoreline suggested with only late hitting from Darren Sammy getting them so close. Barbados can improve on that effort too so I think they look good things at 8/11 here. Re: Caribbean Premier League 2013 Game 11 preview: 4pts Guyana to beat Trinidad & Tobago 4/5 Stan James I don’t think the wicket will be a problem for Guyana here. Their spinners may even prefer the bounce in the wicket so with that in mind I think the visitors have every chance here. They won the reverse meeting between the two pretty easily earlier in the tournament and with their batting line up offering much better performances than their Red Steel counterparts I think the Amazon Warriors have what it takes to win this. Re: Caribbean Premier League 2013 Game 12 preview: 4pts Jamaica Most 6s vs St Lucia 10/11 Stan James The most sixes market hasn’t been too kind to me in this tournament but if you keep going to the well eventually your wish will come true and hopefully that will be the case here because I think Jamaica are a good bet to hit the most sixes here. St Lucia’s batting line up is really struggling at the minute and there isn’t really a weak link in this Jamaica bowling attack. Eventually Gayle is going to fire. If it is here the sixes match will be very one sided but even if it isn’t Hyatt, Russell and a couple of others can still hit big as we saw against Trinidad & Tobago last time out. Re: Caribbean Premier League 2013 Game 13 preview: 4pts Barbados to beat Guyana 8/11 Skybet I’ve said before in the tournament that Barbados look a good all round side and if anything they are getting stronger and stronger the more the tournament goes on. Guyana are just starting to stumble now on wickets which don’t suit their bowlers and with their batters needing to familiarise themselves with quicker conditions. Barbados look good for all conditions and the likes of Smith and Pollard should enjoy this wicket so even at 8/11 Barbados look a good bet to me here. Re: Caribbean Premier League 2013 Game 14 preview: 3pts Antigua to beat Trinidad & Tobago 5/4 BetVictor Antigua Hawksbills looked out of sync on the slower wickets of the early part of the competition but I think these conditions will suit them a lot more. Trinidad & Tobago showed they like the conditions here in their last match but I’m not sure Kevin O’Brien is a good enough opener against the likes of Kemar Roach and Sheldon Cotterill. At odds against I’ll go with Antigua to cause an upset here.
