Re: Rotterdam Open (ET2) 19-21 Jul Tournament preview: 1pt ew M.Williams to win Rotterdam Open 25/1 Skybet (1/4 1-4) Another man who has a good draw in the bottom half is Mark Williams. Williams has a bye in the first round as Jimmy White has pulled out after an operation on his foot. That’s a bonus. Williams never went to Australia so he should be fresh and he’ll turn up wanting to win. He looked good in Bulgaria at the start of the season until he ran into an unforgiving Ronnie O’Sullivan in the quarter finals. There’s no Ronnie this weekend and nobody close to him until the final for Williams so he looks a fair bet this weekend. Re: Rotterdam Open (ET2) 19-21 Jul Friday match previews: 3pts P.Lines to beat M.Selt 5/4 Ladbrokes Given the way Selt has started the season it is easy to make a case for him being a weak favourite here. Peter Lines is a competent player anyway but with the confidence of beating Mark Allen in a major tournament behind him he should be very confident of having a good run this weekend. Obviously this is a shorter distance but Lines has been playing the better snooker when it matters so far this season and he can win this. Although he’s lost to a couple of big players this season, he has pushed them all the way and that bodes well for the youngster. On his day Burnett can be very capable but his day doesn’t arrive anywhere near as often as it should do and in a tournament like this you wonder just how motivated he’ll be. Highfield won’t have motivational problems and he looks a good bet at even money. Woollaston is a regular in the latter stages of these competitions as something in his game just clicks. Walden has looked a bit jaded and out of touch so far this season so I’ll have a go with Woollaston here. Re: Rotterdam Open (ET2) 19-21 Jul Saturday preview: 4pts A.McManus to beat A.Mehta 8/11 Coral One man who won’t face van Gerwen until the quarter final is Jamie Caven. Obviously Caven has to get there first and while that isn’t a guarantee given that he has Wes Newton in the first round and either Dave Chisnall or Paul Nicholson in the second round, he is in good form and if he comes past Newton and faces Chisnall he has just walloped him in the European Championship. But for that collapse against Whitlock, Caven could easily have won that tournament but in fairness he only had one dart for the match against Whitlock so he didn’t do an awful lot wrong. He can make up for that in Blackpool with a run to at least the semi finals.
