Re: EL First Qualifying Round > 2nd - 3rd July Not all the games have been priced up yet so I will update those fixtures at some point. Below are the results of last years first round qualifiers and the average odds 1X2, this information can't be used directly but I find it useful for reference. Haven't had time to look at next weeks fixtures in detail as yet but we have plenty of Irish and Welsh sides in the pot, one thing to note is both Prestatyn and Bala will be playing their home legs at Rhyl's home ground..I will be looking at the matches in more detail over the weekend, should be some matches to get our teeth into, can't believe bloody Valletta and La Florita drew each other as they would certainly have been on my list of sides to oppose. 2011-12 Narva Trans (Est) v Azerbaijan Inter Baku (Aze) 0-7 1st Leg: 0–5 (1) 9.74 (X) 5.35 (2) 1.24 2nd Leg: 0–2 (1) 18.97 (X) 9.91 (2) 1.06 MTK Budapest v Senica (Slvk) 2-3 1st Leg: 1–1 (1) 2.38 (X) 3.18 (2) 2.72 2nd Leg: 1–2 (1) 5.00 (X) 3.66 (2) 1.59 Tirana (Alb) v Grevenmacher (Lux) 1st Leg: 2–0 (1) 1.29 (X) 4.92 (2) 8.28 2nd Leg: 0–0 (1) 1.95 (X) 3.31 (2) 3.48 Torpedo Kutaisi (Geo) v Aktobe (Kaz) 1st Leg: 1–1 (1) 1.85 (X) 3.34 (2) 3.81 2nd Leg: 0–1 (1) 5.21 (X) 3.62 (2) 1.59 Borac Banja Luka (Bos) v Čelik Nikšić (Mon) 3-3(a) 1st Leg: 2–2 (1) 1.32 (X) 4.62 (2) 7.98 2nd Leg: 1–1 (1) 2.51 (X) 3.09 (2) 2.64 Baku (Aze) v Mura 05 (Slov) 0–2 1st Leg: 0–0 (1) 1.32 (X) 4.56 (2) 8.04 2nd Leg: 0–2 (1) 1.98 (X) 3.22 (2) 3.58 Elfsborg (Swe) v Floriana (Mal) 12–0 1st Leg: 8–0 (1) 1.05 (X) 10.39 (2) 26.13 2nd Leg: 4–0 (1) 1.12 (X) 7.54 (2) 14.26 Renova (Mac) v Libertas (San) 8–0 1st Leg: 4–0 (1) 1.05 (X) 9.80 (2) 22.49 2nd Leg: 4–0 (1) 1.22 (X) 5.47 (2) 10.50 FC Santa Coloma (And) v Osijek (Cro) 1–4 1st Leg: 0–1 (1) 14.87 (X) 7.36 (2) 1.12 2nd Leg: 1–3 (1) 28.66 (X) 13.53 (2) 1.02 Jagodina (Ser) v Ordabasy (Kaz) 0–1 1st Leg: 0–1 (1) 1.42 (X) 4.20 (2) 6.50 2nd Leg: 0–0 (1) 3.06 (X) 3.15 (2) 2.21 Differdange 03 (Lux) v NSÍ Runavík (Far) 6–0 1st Leg: 3–0 (1) 1.55 (X) 3.80 (2) 5.18 2nd Leg: 3–0 (1) 2.15 (X) 3.26 (2) 3.04 Crusaders (NIR) v Rosenborg (Nor) 0–4 1st Leg: 0–3 (1) 11.46 (X) 6.33 (2) 1.18 2nd Leg: 0–1 (1) 23.92 (X) 10.73 (2) 1.04 Cefn Druids (Wal) v MYPA (Fin) 0–5 1st Leg: 0–0 (1) 11.40 (X) 5.69 (2) 1.20 2nd Leg: 0–5 (1) 16.90 (X) 8.55 (2) 1.09 Levadia Tallinn (Est) v Šiauliai (Lit) 2–2(a) 1st Leg: 1–0 (1) 1.94 (X) 3.35 (2) 3.47 2nd Leg: 1–2 (1) 2.67 (X) 3.14 (2) 2.47 Bohemians (Rep) v Thor Akureyri (Ice) 1–5 1st Leg: 0–0 (1) 1.35 (X) 4.28 (2) 7.96 2nd Leg: 1–5 (1) 2.10 (X) 3.13 (2) 3.29 Sarajevo (Bos) v Hibernians (Mal) 9–6 1st Leg: 5–2 (1) 1.16 (X) 6.60 (2) 12.25 2nd Leg: 4–4 (1) 1.72 (X) 3.55 (2) 4.21 Twente (Ned) v UE Santa Coloma (And) 9–0 1st Leg: 6–0 (1) 1.01 (X) 14.48 (2) 31.58 2nd Leg: 3–0 (1) 1.01 (X) 14.15 (2) 28.30 Rudar Pljevlja (Mon) v Shirak (Arm) 1–2 1st Leg: 0–1 (1) 1.64 (X) 3.58 (2) 4.70 2nd Leg: 1–1 (1) 2.79 (X) 3.09 (2) 2.44 Flamurtari Vlorë (Alb) v Honvéd (Hung) 0–3 1st Leg: 0–1 (1) 2.76 (X) 3.16 (2) 2.36 2nd Leg: 0–2 (1) 7.15 (X) 4.26 (2) 1.38 Dacia Chişinău (Mol) v Celje (Slov) 2–0 1st Leg: 1–0 (1) 1.55 (X) 3.67 (2) 5.48 2nd Leg: 1–0 (1) 2.74 (X) 3.18 (2) 2.36 Sūduva Marijampolė (Lith) v Daugava Daugavpils (Lat) 3-3(a) 1st Leg: 0–1 (1) 2.04 (X) 3.26 (2) 3.27 2nd Leg: 3–2 (1) 2.48 (X) 3.01 (2) 2.75 KuPS (Fin) v Llanelli (Wal) 3–2 1st Leg: 2–1 (1) 1.22 (X) 5.51 (2) 10.29 2nd Leg: 1–1 (1) 2.10 (X) 3.30 (2) 3.11 Cliftonville (NIR) v Kalmar FF (Swe) 1–4 1st Leg: 1–0 (1) 6.66 (X) 4.23 (2) 1.40 2nd Leg: 0–4 (1) 12.11 (X) 6.12 (2) 1.18 Víkingur (Far) v Gomel (Bel) 0–10 1st Leg: 0–6 (1) 8.80 (X) 4.93 (2) 1.27 2nd Leg: 0–4 (1) 18.57 (X) 10.34 (2) 1.05 FH (Ice) v Eschen/Mauren (Lie) 3–1 1st Leg: 2–1 (1) 1.18 (X) 6.07 (2) 11.45 2nd Leg: 1–0 (1) 1.59 (X) 3.70 (2) 4.95 Lech Poznań (Pol) v Zhetysu (Kaz) 3-1 1st Leg: 2–0 (1) 1.13 (X) 6.70 (2) 14.80 2nd Leg: 1–1 (1) 1.77 (X) 3.40 (2) 4.30 Khazar Lankaran (Aze) v Nõmme Kalju (Est) 4–2 1st Leg: 2–2 (1) 1.45 (X) 3.94 (2) 6.24 2nd Leg: 2–0 (1) 2.23 (X) 3.26 (2) 2.89 Birkirkara (Mlt) v Metalurg Skopje (Mac) 2–2(a) 1st Leg: 2–2 (1) 5.48 (X) 3.85 (2) 1.52 2nd Leg: 0–0 (1) 7.60 (X) 4.54 (2) 1.34 Pyunik (Arm) v Zeta (Mont) 2-4 1st Leg: 0–3 (1) 2.04 (X) 3.32 (2) 3.22 2nd Leg: 2–1 (1) 4.33 (X) 3.67 (2) 1.67 Teuta Durrës (Alb) v Metalurgi Rustavi (Geo) 1-9 1st Leg: 0–3 (1) 2.98 (X) 3.16 (2) 2.23 2nd Leg: 1–6 (1) 9.53 (X) 5.31 (2) 1.25 Olimpija Ljubljana (Slov) v Jeunesse Esch (Lux) 6–0 1st Leg: 3–0 (1) 1.06 (X) 9.34 (2) 18.66 2nd Leg: 3–0 (1) 1.51 (X) 3.88 (2) 5.62 EB/Streymur (Far) v Gandzasar (Arm) 3–3(a) 1st Leg: 3–1 (1) 2.63 (X) 3.09 (2) 2.55 2nd Leg: 0–2 (1) 4.16 (X) 3.37 (2) 1.79 St. Patrick's Athletic (Rep) v ÍBV (Ice) 2–2 (a) 1st Leg: 1–0 (1) 1.63 (X) 3.55 (2) 4.87 2nd Leg: 1–2(aet) (1) 2.29 (X) 3.20 (2) 2.29 La Fiorita (San) v Liepājas Metalurgs (Lat) 0–6 1st Leg: 0–2 (1) 9.89 (X) 5.73 (2) 1.22 2nd Leg: 0–4 (1) 22.03 (X) 11.02 (2) 1.04 JJK (Fin) v Stabæk (Nor) 4–3 1st Leg: 2–0 (1) 2.68 (X) 3.29 (2) 2.36 2nd Leg: 2–3 (1) 4.64 (X) 3.76 (2) 1.62 Bangor City (Wal) v Zimbru Chişinău (Mol) 1–2 1st Leg: 0–0 (1) 2.83 (X) 3.18 (2) 2.30 2nd Leg: 1–2 (1) 6.70 (X) 4.10 (2) 1.41 Shkëndija (Mac) v Portadown (NIR) 1–2 1st Leg: 0–0 (1) 1.42 (X) 4.10 (2) 6.56 2nd Leg: 1–2 (1) 2.52 (X) 3.19 (2) 2.55

Re: EL First Qualifying Round > 2nd - 3rd July The biggest mismatch of the round looks to be Sarajevo v Libertas. Sarajevo look to be a solid outfit, finishing 2nd in the Bosnian league last season, winning 13 out of 15 home games. Libertas are from San Marino - they qualified for the second consecutive year by losing to Tre Penne in their domestic league competition final. Last season, they were thrashed 8-0 on aggregate by Renova - by all accounts a distinctly average Macedonian side. The match odds reflect this mismatch, but the handicaps may be worth a look. The most eye-catching match odds I've seen are Breidablik at 1.35 to win at home to Santa Coloma on Bwin. I would have expected the odds on the home win to be closer to 1.10-1.15. Now, I know the Icelandic league isn't the strongest in the world, but I would thought it's surely at least a class above Andorra's? To get a sense of perspective, consider Santa Coloma's all-time record in European competitions: Home: P8 W1 D0 L7 F4 A17 GD-13 Away: P9 W0 D0 L9 F6 A34 GD-28 Overall: P17 W1 D0 L16 F10 A51 GD-41 The reason they have played nine away games and only eight at home is because in 2010 their home tie against Birkirkara was postponed due to an issue with the pitch. UEFA awarded the game 3-0 to Birkirkara, but I've not included this in the stats because it doesn't seem particularly fair; Birkirkara only won the game in Malta 4-3. Still, the record speaks for itself, and it's also worth noting that an Andorran side has only ever avoided defeat in an away leg in European competition once, and this was against a side from San Marino. Now, I'm no expert on Icelandic football, but I've actually seen Breidablik play, against my own team (Motherwell), a few years ago - there wasn't much between the teams in our home leg, and they hit the post at one point before a fluke goal saw us record a 1-0 win. Their season is currently underway, so they should have match fitness on their side, and they're currently 4th out of 12 having won four out of five home games on the back of three consecutive victories in their last three games. My initial thoughts are that they should have too much for Santa Coloma; if anyone can confirm the situation regarding full-time/part-time clubs in Iceland, specifically whether Breidablik are a full-time professional side, that would be helpful. Definitely one to watch!

I'm pretty certain Breidablik are a professional side. They have Icelandic Internationals in the side and players on loan from other big sides like Nordsjaelland from Norway. Was having a quick look at Rosenborg away at Crusaders, Rosenborg are one of the biggest sides in this stage of the draw and are well into their season sitting second in Norway, while Crusaders are part-timers who are playing their first friendly tomorrow and don't seem best prepared for such a game. Interestingly they met at this stage last season with Rosenborg winning 3-0 away and 1-0 at home. With a 8-2-0 record in their last 10 in the domestic league and cup in what is a reasonably strong domestic league I can't see Crusaders having any more luck against them than they had last season. Its difficult to form much of an opinion about anything until we have some more prices out but I'm certainly got a fair idea of who I'm going to be going for.

When you say 'more prices' do you mean handicap prices? I think every match is being quoted now.

I mean I need someone else other than 'marathon' and 'bwin' offering odds, marathon won't even let me put a quid on anything, bwin aren't much better, waste of time.

Marathon's odds do often seem good, but as you say, frustrating if they won't actually let you bet more than a tiny amount. Still useful to have an early indication of odds available though even if you don't bet with them.

Re: EL First Qualifying Round > 2nd - 3rd July I agree that Breidablik looks an excellent price at 1.35. The San marinos and Andorrans are a long way behind everyone else even the Welsh clubs. biggest problem with the andorran league is most of the "Best" andorran players play in the spanish 5th division so the league is even weaker than people think. FC Santa Colomas last 2 games last month were both 3-0 defeats against UE Santa Coloma so they are not even the best side in Santa coloma which does not bode well. Breidablik look a young side with a few Icelandic u21 internationals and couple of fringe Icelandic internationals with a handful of caps. They also have players with dutch second division experience, Norwegian and Swedish first division experience. Easily should be good enough. And they are mid season and have won 6 games in a row. Given that the Andorran champions lost 8-0 away last year to a maltese side i will be looking to take Breidablik on -2 handicap here.

I would say Youwin obviously didn't put very much time at all into researching the game, or they rank Andorran football way above San Marino in terms of quality. I say this because they offer 35+ markets in the game whereas for Sarajevo v AC Libertas they offer only 1 market. To say I'm pleased with these prices would be a massive understatement. Breidablik -1EH - youwin - 1.75 - 10 Points Breidablik -2EH - youwin - 3.10 - 10 Points Home Team Clean Sheet - Yes - youwin - 1.90 - 10 Points EDIT: They have knocked the handicap prices down to 1.70 and 2.85, still good prices imo.

Re: EL First Qualifying Round > 2nd - 3rd July Hi, what do you think about the -1 handicap win of Videoton Vs Mladost Podgorica at @2,10 ? I think hungarian have more confidence with european matches, last year they arrived 2nd in home league and reached the group stagein UEFA EL, montenegrian side finished 6°th in home league and have no experience in UEFA.

Re: EL First Qualifying Round > 2nd - 3rd July Wow. I almost forgot about these games. I have gone for: Sarajevo -1 EH @ 1.22 (Bwin) 15 points Breidablik -1 EH @ 1.72 (Bwin) 10 points. It's worth noting that Breidablik don't have a league game the weekend following this Europa League game. They have an Icelandic cup tie away to a 2nd tier team. Whilst Andorran sides are not that often completely hammered in Europe these days, I can't find a single instance of them failing to lose by at least a two goal margin. 1.72 is very good value, if not an absolute cert, whereas I would be amazed if the other bet doesn't come in.

Re: EL First Qualifying Round > 2nd - 3rd July Looks good at youwin HastGill. Anyone else surprised to see Bala shortening. Tallinn out to 2.5 from evens. Only conclusion to make is Tallinn must be pretty poor because Bala certainly are. Bala have lost their best striker he has moved to prestyn and the game has been moved to Rhyls ground. Not too much in Balas favour here I dont think. Bala first game of the season and Tallinn top of their league. Probably Tallinn wont travel to well but they do have 2 current Estonian internationals. I know Estonia aint great but they would be far above Welsh Premier league standard. Cant quite bring myself to get involved without proper information though and can remember Cefn Druids managing a 0-0 last year against MYPA which was then followed by the inevitable away smashing. This has a similar ring to it.

Not all the games have been priced up yet so I will update those fixtures at some point.
Around five bookies seem to be offering prices now HG - could you update the fixture list please? I think there are 38 fixtures this week

Re: EL First Qualifying Round > 2nd - 3rd July Bala Town vs Levadia Tallinn I follow Welsh football so thought I would preview this game. Bala Town are a side who have come up from parks football to the WPL and now to their first ever trip into Europe. They have done it basically through being bankrolled (though not to the extent of TNS). Their wages etc are very modest really but compared to other Welsh teams they are quite high. The manager, Colin Caton, has been with them throughout their progression up the divisions. He has got a reputation amongst Welsh football fans as lacking in football knowledge and tactically inept, I'm not sure how fair this is but I don't think he has done any of his badges which would support the view. Like I say he is the same person who has been with them since they were a very small side indeed. I think to his credit he has the support of the players and has provided the side with some stability. In terms of their style Bala are a very 'route one' side. They are famed for their poor pitch, during midwinter it is one of the worst pitches I have ever seen and I don't think they'd get away with it in a more established league; lots of patches of sticky mud and very little grass is the order of the day! As far as Welsh football goes they are an underish side, though bear in mind there's normally loads of goals in Welsh football. Last season they were expected to be in the top four but had a very poor start to the season by their standards which saw them in the bottom half of the division come the split. There was talk of the manager getting fired, but they went on to have an excellent run, winning pretty much every game for the rest of the season, scoring loads of goals and conceding maybe only one or two goals in the entire second half of the season. They looked far superior to the other sides in the bottom half of the split. In winning the 'relegation zone' they got into the Europa League playoffs which they did very well to win, beating highly fancied Bangor City 4-1 on their own patch and then Port Talbot (who are more on Bala's level). It is worth noting that Bala have lost their second best player, Lee Hunt (a striker) to Prestatyn this summer. Their best players is midfielder Mark Jones who actually has a couple of caps for Wales and who could play at a higher level; he had offers to carry on playing full time football when he left Wrexham but rejected them, citing his need to regain the love of playing the game for its own sake not for money. Levadia Tallinn meanwhile are a professional side (Bala are semi pro), they are top of their league and crucially are mid-season. Their team features a lot more experienced players, one who has 71 caps for Estonia and a few more with the odd cap, a lot of U21 experience and some who have played in much stronger foreign leagues only to come back to Estonia. I've looked at some highlights of their games on Youtube and the standard does seem to be higher than that of the Welsh league. So, are Levadia value here @ 2.25 or so? It should be remembered that the game is being played at Belle Vue (Rhyl's ground), which is a pretty good pitch and will suit the Estonians with their classier, continental style passing game. Bala, however, will be well up for this and will play a very physical game. Welsh sides have not done too badly at home in similar type of games recently. Last year Bangor drew with Zimbru, Llanelli drew with a Finnish side and Cefi Druids drew with MyPa. If you look at the uefa coefficient Wales is actually higher than Estonia which suggests their teams have done better in Europe lately, if you look at Estonian teams' results they have been awful and seem to be getting worse rather than better- looking back a few years Levadia had some excellent results but lately they have not done well, getting knocked out by a side from Luxembourg for instance. Even so, I think this is a bit of a fallacy- the Estonian league is stronger than the WPL. I have little doubt Levadia will go through but I think this game could well be a draw, which wouldn't be a bad result for either side. As such I will be having a small play on Levadia DNB @ 1.6 (Expekt)- also available at Paddy Power 1.62. It's not a game to go massively into though, if it was in Estonia I would fancy a home win with the handicap but as its the first leg and Levadia don't need to win, draw cover is essential here IMO.

Re: EL First Qualifying Round > 2nd - 3rd July For anyone a bit uncertain about backing such obscure stuff, Stan James have Breidablik DNB @ 1.08 which I think are good odds. Little bit unsure about backing an Icelandic side to do the business outright, Santa Coloma did all right against Osijek of Croatia last season, 0-1 and 3-1.

In all fairness Malmo's recent European opponents have been a far higher quality than Drogheda's. Where as Drogheda do have a ok record at home in Europe one of the ties was against Libertas of San Marino and even then they drew the away leg 1-1, although that was 6 years ago and has little relevance. Just can't see anything other than a Malmo win, although it'll be close 1 or 2-0, there won't be many goals.

Re: EL First Qualifying Round > 2nd - 3rd July I'll do my Northern Ireland teams Uefa Cup predictions! Crusaders Vs Rosenberg - Away win for sure.. by two goals at least! Crusaders are in Pre-Season, more likely will have one or two players away on holiday. Rosenberg in full flow in their league, fitness will win this for the away team. For your information Crusaders have an artificial pitch. IF Fuglajordur v Linfield -This could be a close game, I think Linfield could get a result or even go for the draw, which most Northern Irish teams play for in away games.. Fuglajordur in mid season that could help them on fitness wise and seem to be steady in league, not sure how competitive the Fareos league is.. Linfield have signed some nice players over the last few weeks and have a few ex internationals in squad or players who ever made it in the English top 2 divisions as youth. Close call this will be. KR Reykjavik v Glentoran - Home win this will be, Reykjavik are top of there league, fitness again will win this. Glentoran have lost 4-5 players to Linfield as they are in debt and cant afford. It will be a young team for Glentoran in action... I'l go 2-0 for Reykjavik

Re: EL First Qualifying Round > 2nd - 3rd July Thanks Chris. Going against Glentoran looks a sound bet at 1.6. What you say is correct they have lost 4 starters from last season and only signed one player who is not going to play on Thursday. Glentoran have lost their last 9 away european games. Interestingly they played KR 3 years ago and lost 3-0 away. Four of the team that ended last season played that day. Glentoran finished 4th in the northern irish league last year a massive 27 points behind cliftonville and they seem weaker now due to losing players. KR have a great record in 2013 17 wins just 1 draw and only 2 losses. Most well known player is ex Reading legend Brynjar Gunnarsson. 37 years old now but still got it. Given the stats and facts to me it looks more of a 1.4 shot than a 1.6 shot for the KR Win.

Re: EL First Qualifying Round > 2nd - 3rd July Sliema - Khazar - Away win @1.44 Odds have shortened a bit, but I still think they carry some value. Sliema have finished 4th in Malta, but I don't think they can be a match for Khazar. The Azeri side finished 2nd in their domestic league, just 3 points behind the champions Neftci. If I recall correctly, they always tend to do well in Europe, at least in the first rounds. I couldn't find much information about Sliema's squad, and as for Khazar, only striker Zouhir Benouahi is doubtful. All in all, I think Khazar should have too much for an average Maltese team. Maybe -1AH is also a good option, since I expect something like 2-0 or 3-0 victory.

I am from Azerbaijan, and woould liek to note that Khazar are not doing that well in Europe. They have won only 1 game out of their 14 games in Europe, recording 6 draws and 7 losses. Their only win was against Nomne Kalju (Estonia) in 2011-2012 season. But we do have good squad and good coach (John Toshak), so I guess we can take all 3 points against semi-rpofessional Sliema.

Re: EL First Qualifying Round > 2nd - 3rd July I was hoping you will join in Mustafa! Thanks for the info. I don't know why I was under the impression that Khazar were doing well in Europe...In any case I still think they shouldn't have many problems tonight.

I will not be palcing any bets during the qualifiers but will be glad to provide some local information and update. Our other tema Qarabagh, that also plays today have a decent record in Europe and they might be a good value against Metalurg (Macedonia) tonight. Another infor you might want to take into account is that Khazar beaten Ingosltadt (2 Bundesliga) 6-1 on Friday, so I guess that we are well prepared for a macth against Sliema.

Re: EL First Qualifying Round > 2nd - 3rd July My first-round numbers for home dogs over the past four years shows an interesting split: games involving home underdogs of 9.0 or better are 1-2-6 to the over 3 goals, while games involving home underdogs of 8.99 or less are 8-4-2 to the over 3 goals. For today, that would make Sliema a play at over 2.5 @ 1.89, and Trans Narva a play at under 3 @ 2.15 Adding: Trans Narva have been involved in two of these first-round games in those 4 years: they lost 1-4 in 2011 @ 5.16, and lost 0-3 in 2009 @ 7.91. Doesn't speak so well to the under, although Scandinavian teams often get bogged down in defensive games in round 1 away from home.

Re: EL First Qualifying Round > 2nd - 3rd July La Fiorita vs Valletta I think Valletta 0 (AH) @ 1.15 with Bet365 is a value bet. There is a massive difference between the two sides, I watched Valletta play a Sanmarinese team (I think it was Tre Penne who are better than Fiorita) live on the internet a couple of years ago and it was easy for them. They beat an Andorran side 8-0 last year and this is an easier fixture. 1.4 looks good value on the straight away win but as it is a first leg with the heat etc I'm going for this as it seems almost completely safe for me. Was tempted by the -0.25 AH @ 1.27 but sometimes the teams from San Marino get a 0-0 at home. Although Valletta had a poor end to last season they are a big side by Maltese standards and have had some decent results in Europe over the years. I really can't see this bet losing so it's worth a 10/10 stake for me.
