Any advice, im playing live tonight for the first time. Tournament at the local casino £10 buy in and unlimited re-buy in for the first two hours pot limit, until final table. Been told there should be about 100 of us, im off work tomorrow so hopefully it should be a long night. I've read the live tell, that Jez posted earlier, and took some other advice from other sources, so should be a good night. Only slight worry is i understand pot limit, but am not 100% on how to work out what the pot actullay is, i know its probably simple, but could someone let me know. Anyway wish me luck, i'll post sometime tomorrow to let you all know how i did, the other half keeps telling me i'll be home by 10, after the first punters lounge tournament when i went out within 45 secs.

Re: Going Live Hi Northen, Live poker is great fun, you should have a good night. I play in a tenner rebuy tourney as well live at my local casino and it will be the same for you as it is everywhere during the rebuys and that is...roullete with cards :lol . Basically during the rebuys there will be FREQUENT raises preflop and multiway pots with shite cards. This is all a bit of fun and an attempt to basically buy chips - if you dont mind a few rebuys then go for it as having a large stack after the rebuys stop is a definate advantage - if you dont want too many rebuys then be a lot tighter than you usually would be especially from early position (As far more likely there will be a raise after you limp). As for pot limit, it works like this :- When it comes to you state you are going to raise first then first of all you put whatever you have to in the pot to call/match the others raise. Then after you have done that everything in the middle is added up and that is the pot max you can raise. for example : Someone bets 20 at a pot of 40 - you want to raise the pot back so you put your 20 in and this makes 20+40+20 80 as the raise - so you have put a total of 100 chips in the pot. Or the blinds are at 100 and 200 - it gets folded round to you on the button and you raise the pot, this would be 200 + 500 for a total of 700. Hope this helps, gl Jez

Re: Going Live I play live at my local casino as well. Same set out pot limit and rebuys for the first 90 mins. Admittedly the buy in is steeper 30 quid. My first advice is not to go looking for tells straight away but more the way people bet. You will soon gather what you up against then. At my place there alot of solid players and few maniacs. I play quite tight but very aggressive in the buy in stage. You should able to be at least triple you original stack size by the end of buy ins to have a realistic shot of making the money IMO. It is too easy to get blinded out with cold cards early if you have less. With pot limit it can be quite frustrating for example if you have say Ac Jd and the flop comes Js 9h 2s You will find it very hard to chase out people on the flush draw as your bet is restricted. This makes bluffing hard as well I would advise on bluffing against tight opponents one on one when the blinds are low, you can bluff more when the tourney starts and the blinds really start to move up. But as Jez enjoy yourself don't worry about the stakes, I always have great time playing live and have met some really good people through it. GOOD LUCK.

Re: Going Live Well Jez firstly i had a great night, met some good people and made some new friends. During the re-buy i only bought in once and played well, had two nice hands JJ with a J on the flop, and then J 9 with 10 Q K on the flop so was sitting pretty. Called some old agressive guy for a 1.5K for him to show nothing. Rest of the time i stayed out of the lottery of all ins. Got through the first two hours then with about 8K in front of me, above the average i think. ( at the same time my little brother was on another table with 12K in front of him, some guy on his table had re-bought about ten time and our kid and took him out about 4 or 5). Anyway this is when i learnt my lesson DONT DRINK WHEN PLAYING, looking back i should of realised, with the nervous of playing live for the first time, and the thrill of winning few hands. i had had too much to drink by the time midnight come round, so with my stack of 8K still in tack i got dealt JK, called, the rest called, the flop comes J 9 4 (i think) the guy to my right bets 5K i think he caught the J, but my K leaves me in good nick, so i call the betting goes round leaving 3 of us in the same guy ups the betting leaving himself all in and meaning me and the other fellow both have to go all in too. These me in a drunked haze thinking final table etc, the cards are turned the other fellow has J 10, im still fine, the other fellow shows J 9 leaving me to hope for a K it doesn't come and thats in I sober up, and i'm out. Thing was i then had to wait round for hour and half until out kid was knocked out, we thinks he came about 20th, he played really well, but when they started moving people some of the more experianced players were moved onto his table and he lost his way a bit. We are both looking to go again really enjoyed, spoke to a few people and they said we might be better going on a Monday or Wednesday as they are lot quieter, Sunday is the day for the old heads and regulars, so might go down next Monday.
