Re: WC > Africa Qualification > 12-16 June Ethiopia - South Africa I can't understand the odds which treat SA as a heavy favorite. So far in the qualifiers, Ethiopia didn't lose a single game, they drew 1:1 away to their opponent. At home they have three victories without even conceding a goal. In all official games in the last two years they didn't lose at home and had two draws - 2:2 with Nigeria and 0:0 with Benin. SA are 2-2-0 so far in the group. Away from home they defeated CAR and drew 1:1 with Botswana. The victory in Central African Rep. was the only away win of SA in official match in the last three years. SA are 60th in the world ranking, while Ethiopia are 106th, however the home team is improving a lot in the last two years and I don't think that the class gap between the two is huge, if any. The last edition of the cup of nations showed that Ethiopia and South Africa are more or less comparable in class. Ethiopia is leading the table with 2 points advantage with two games to go (only group winner qualifies). However, if they draw, then Ethiopia must win against Central African Republic away from home in the last match, which could be a very hard task, so I believe that a strong home team will try to do the job at their stadium. The game will take place in Addis Abbaba, where it is usually very hot during this time of the year, while in South Africa it is winter (of course, still African winter). Accidentally, in the last week weather in Ethiopia have been pretty mild and for the game expected temperatures are about 20 degrees Celsius with light rain. I don't agree at all with current prices. Against such tough home team like Ethiopia, only the top dogs of the continent can deserve such price - Ivory Coast, Ghana, Cameroon, but surely SA is not amongst them. In my virtual book, I would give similar chances to the two teams with small advantage for Ethiopia. At current prices, I see a huge value in home win. Ethiopia @ 4.18

Briefly, Zimbabwe's federation, in order to cut costs, didn't hire a plane, so the team had to travel with three different regular flights (Zimbabwe - Kenya, Kenya - Senegal, Senegal - Guinea). However, not enough tickets were available from Senegal to Guinea and they bought only 14 tickets, so they were supposed to take just 12 players. However, in the last moment other tickets were found and 25 men travel to Guinea. Anyway, the team started their journey on Saturday at 2 o'clock in the morning and arrived in Guinea around 10 o'clock in the evening. They will have no time for even a single training and no time to acclimatize (they travel from "winter" season in their own country to very hot tropical summer in Guinea.

A big factor in this game which i didnt realise at the time is if Egypt beat mozambique which is kicking off before the Guinea game then Egypt will qualify and guinea will be out and no longer have anything to play for. So however bad Zimbabwe are i wouldnt want to put money on guinea knowing that they have no motivation to win. I expect egypt to win against mozambique and qualify but it is by no means a sure thing. I dont know if the rest of the Zimbabwee squad have made it to Guinea or if they will really only have 11 players including 2 goalies available. I expect the rest of the squad will probably arrive somehow with not much time to spare.

Re: WC > Africa Qualification > 12-16 June Update on Guinea - Zimbabwe: at the moment (2hrs ago), 14 players from Zimbabwe have arrived in Guinea. Among them is NOT their star and only European based player - Knowledge Musonga. Another regular player - Zvirekwi, lost his passport on the way, and returned promptly home. Egypt just won, so this game is for prestige more or less. Nevertheless, I still think there is value in Guinea handicaps at the moment. Guinea, even under regular circumstances are much classier - all of their team consists of Europe-based players (mostly France Ligue 1). Some of them are well known and play for good teams. Zimbabwe can only boast with few players who play in South Africa, all the rest is local stuff. I think the morale of Zimbabwe will be pretty low and think Guinea will unleash their anger of not making it to the following stage on them.

It is not known what the final score is yet, and the football information and news community is split in two: half of them are reporting "1:0" home win and the other half "2:0" home win. I had played -1.5 handicap and got it as winning bet at bet365, but two hours later it turned into a loser. Fifa.com and soccerway claim the game finished 1-0. Livescore.com and livescore.gs claim it finished 2-0 with two goals from Mohammed Yattara (37th and 90th min). Mohammed Yattara himself claims on twitter that he scored twice and the game finished 2-0. Conacry Live - a twitter page from Guinea, claims the match finished 2-0 with two goals from Yattara. Another media from Guinea reports 1-0 home win. All the press in Zimbabwe report 2-0 home win. I really have never seen such thing and I watch football for more than 20 years.
