Re: June 10 - June 16

Raonic is a very strange player. MASSIVE serve, however, not the best mover, and the backhand can be a massive weakness at times. I'm surprised how odds on Raonic is to win this, will be a lot closer than the odds suggest.
He's actually improved his movement a lot, people are going back to stereotyping him as a tall man with nothing but a serve, but he has a better ground game than the likes of Isner and especially Karlovic. He had a weak claycourt season, but for me half his mind was on the grass and you can bet he's prepared for the grass. Monfils will still surely be have some mental and emotional exhausion from his efforts at the French? He won a French challenger, then played 250 Nice losing in the final to Montanes, then a 5 setter with Berdych, a 4 setter with Gulbis and a heart breaking 5 setter with Robredo. The odss are value, I just think Raonic has come in prepared for this tournament and if you look at his record at Halle, it doesn't make for bad reading either. Federer needed 3 sets to dispose of him last year.

Re: June 10 - June 16 Raonic/Monfils Set 1 Total Games Over 10.5 @11/8 888Sport I can't see Monfils getting near Raonic's service games for obvious reasons. Also, Monfils has been serving well lately and Raonic's return game is average at best. For this reason I make the tie-break about a 5/4 shot so with the added chance of 7-5 to either player this definitely seems value. If it wins or goes close I would look to make the same bet for 2nd and 3rd sets if similar prices are available.

Re: June 10 - June 16 Back Lukasz Kubot to beat Tobias Kamke @ 1.95 Betfair I think that at close to evens, Kubot is a good price to win this match. He has a good record against Kamke, and even though they haven't met on grass before and Kamke is the home player, I think Kubot's recent form on the surface is better than Kamke's. Kubot beat Nieminen in the first round here last year before taking Kohlschreiber to three sets in the second round, whilst Kamke lost his first match to Ze Zhang, a player he was expected to beat. Kubot has an unorthodox style which can be difficult to play against, and if he looks to serve and volley as I expect him to, Kamke might struggle to get into a steady rhythm. I see Kubot as the player with the better grass court pedigree, and whilst it might go the distance, I think Kubot will get the win. Back Benjamin Becker to beat Bernard Tomic @ 2.20 >Betfair Even though Tomic may well end up winning this match, I can't back him at the moment. His form has been poor, he has had problems outside of tennis, and he retired in his last match against Hanescu at the French Open. Although Becker hasn't been in the greatest form either, his morale should have been boosted by making the Nottingham Challenger final last week, where he lost a tight match against Ebden. As a result, he should be feeling very comfortable on grass, a surface that he seems to do well on. As Tomic hasn't had a match on grass yet this season, and as it's hard to know which Tomic will turn up, I think Becker is the player to be on. Back Xavier Malisse to beat Juan Martin Del Potro @ 4.50 >Betfair I think it might be worth taking on Del Potro in this match, as he hasn't played any tennis since losing to Paire on clay in Rome. He missed the French Open due to a respiratory illness, and if he isn't completely fit then Malisse could make things very difficult for him. His game seems to suit grass well, and he can be a tricky opponent as he is difficult to break in these conditions. Del Potro is not the best returner on tour, and if there are tie-breaks in this match then I think Malisse has a live chance of beating him. Malisse has also already played a match in this tournament, and that might help him to make a faster start that Del Potro. If the Argentine goes behind then he might find it difficult to reel Malisse back in, as the Belgian has plenty of grass court experience.

Re: June 10 - June 16 1 PICK FOR ATP CHALLENGER KOSICE: ALBOT TO DEFEAT DANIS BY 2:0 SETS @ 1.44 on centrebet/sportingbet Should be an easy win for Albot who is a young and very talented clay court player with great baseline game playing against a local wild-card. Under 19.5 games should is a great bet also.

Re: June 10 - June 16 Back Jurgen Melzer (-4) to beat Riccardo Ghedin for a 2/10 stake at 1.85 with Pinnacle Melzer looked fairly alright in the doubles yesterday, firing plenty of big serves down the line, so I expect him to go out and do more of the same today as well. His opponent remains to be fairly inexperienced on the surface even despite the qualifying victories and should struggle against the Austrian really. This line therefore certainly looks coverable to me. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/melzer-vs-ghedin-betting-jurgen-melzer-shouldn-t-have-too-many-problems-against-riccardo-ghedin-20130611 Back Sofia Arvidsson to beat Andrea Petkovic for a 1/10 stake at 5.64 with Pinnacle Back Sofia Arvidsson (+1.5 sets) to beat Andrea Petkovic for a 1/10 stake at 2.77 with Pinnacle The prices would obviously be very different without Petkovic winning the small event in Marseille, but I am still struggling to see the justification for them given that Arvidsson is certainly not the worst clay court player on the tour. She deserves to be the underdog, of course, but I would have her around 3.50, not 5.64. Re: June 10 - June 16 Dimitrov was p*ss poor yesterday but at least he got through which keeps my outright going on him. He's still available at 16/1 on Boylesports, whilst Anderson is 33/1 with Ladbrokes and I've got 1 point each way on both just for the record. I'm on -5.00 for the tournament though from yesterday so hoping for better today. Taking on a lot so let's get to it. Will start with the event in Halle. Philipp Kohlschreiber vs Carlos Berlocq- Over 19.5 games- 4/5 Bet365- (3/10) Like a few others on here, I'm on the German for the tournament but this line does look a little low to me. Berlocq has caused Kohlschreiber all sorts of problems in the past, even on the hard courts where the German would be a big favourite. In fact, there has only been 1 match in the H2H where this line hasn't been covered, and that was when Berlocq won way back in 2006 and the 4 meetings since then have covered this line. Ultimately Kohlschreiber should win, but with the quicker conditions, Berlocq should still be able to hold his own, and one close set should see this line through. Gael Monfils vs Milos Raonic- Over 23.5 games- 10/11 BetVictor- (3/10) The line may appear to be high at first, but under closer inspection it actually looks a game or so too low. I hope the Frenchman pulls through as I'm on him outright but it's hard to see this game being anything other than the flip of a coin. This line could easily be covered in two sets, but I wouldn't rule this one going the distance like their only previous meeting. Raonic would have liked a better clay season in all honesty, especially in Paris where he lost in the third round but on the grass you know what to expect from the Canadian. Big bombs and powerful groundstrokes, whilst there is still room for improvement on return. Monfils returned to form in Paris and should have made the fourth round as he blew match points against Robredo but that should have given him confidence ahead of the grass season. It would surprise me if we see any more than 2 breaks of serve in the entire match regardless of how many sets there are. There should be plenty of cheap points for both guys and it should be a serve fest really, so the overs look good to me. Lukasz Kubot to beat Tobias Kamke- 5/6 BetVictor- (3/10) Think the Pole deserves to be a bigger favourite for this one. He's won the last 2 matches between the two, albeit in deciding sets and although he's not been having a good year, the grass will compliment his serve and volley style and should really frustrate Kamke who isn't the best of returners anyway. The German had a shocker on the grass 12 months ago, winning just the one match and those were the only sets he won in his 4 matches. He did okay in Paris to be fair, pushing Benneteau close in 4 sets in the second round but back in the quicker conditions, it should suit Kubot more I would say. This should be close, but I do think the Pole holds the advantage in styles in this matchup and he should be able to frustrate Kamke if he serves well, and I think that might be the difference today.

Re: June 10 - June 16 ATP Queens: Rosol vs Groth OVER 22.5 @ 8/11 (PPower:4/10) You'd expect some close sets here. Rosol is a big hitter, first match on grass after the clay season. Groth is very one-dimensional, not much to him bar serve but he's played some grass matches in the last few days and I can see a close enough match here. ATP Queens: Malisse +4.5 games vs Del Potro @ 5/6 (Skybet:5/10) Malisse didnt seem too impressive against GGL yesterday but got the win, and he does have some pedigree on the grass. He's comfortable on it. Del Potro returning from injury after missing the French, doesnt like the grass too much, like most Argentinians bar Nalbandian. Seems like a decent line for Delpo to cover on his return...fancy Malisse to play a competitive match in this one. :hope

Re: June 10 - June 16 Thank you, just wish I had done the 2-0 aswell (At 4.50). Didn't want to be too greedy. Monfils was having fun in the last couple of games with his lobs and drop shots. Looks like he is raring to go on grass too. Raonic was predictable as usual and all you need to do is return his serve to beat him. I was more impressed with Monfils serve really. Looks like the Petzchner Vs Janowicz game is off??! hoping one of them boys can beat Federer really, in a long drawn-out match to give Monfils a better chance. Monfils movement should cause any of them problems though. Hoping can find some more winners anyways

Re: June 10 - June 16 Doesn't look like the best of starts for me really. Hopefully things are better over at Queen's. Lukas Rosol (-2.5 games) vs Samuel Groth- 5/6 Bet365- 3/10) Not overly keen on backing Rosol with handicaps but it looks low enough for him to cover here. Should be close for the most part with very few breaks, but ultimately Rosol is the better player of the two. Groth has come through qualification for Queen's without any real problems, but Matosevic beat him in straight sets last week, and the Aussie has lost to some really average players this season, far lower in the rankings than the top 100. Rosol hasn't been in the best of form, but his ground strokes should be too powerful for Groth here and he should offer more on return so I'll back him to see the handicap through. Ryan Harrison to beat Jarkko Nieminen- Evens Bet365- (3/10) Not sure what Harrison has done to be the underdog here. He may not be in the greatest of form, but neither was he last year coming into the grass season and he managed to make the semis at Eastbourne. Away from the US hard court swing, grass should be where the American enjoys his best results as the conditions really suit his powerful game. Nieminen has had an okay year, but why he chose to play a challenger after Paris on the clay instead of preparing on the grass like Harrison did is a mystery to me. It could be down to his really poor record on the grass so there's a case that he might not be fully up for this one anyway whereas Harrison certainly will be as he needs the points. It should be close, but the preparation of Nieminen worries me slightly and his grass court record isn't good enough to make him favourite so it's the young American for me. Xavier Malisse to beat Juan Martin Del Potro- 3/1 Stan James- (3/10) I'm not having these prices and I'm not even going to bother with the handicap. Even if the Argentine wins this, the prices are still absurd on a grass court and I can't pass them up. If Del Potro was in really good form, the prices are still way to high on Malisse, and considering Juan Martin hasn't played since Rome, and in that little period he lost to Nieminen and Paire there's no guarantees to how he will play today. I find it almost impossible to imagine he'll be anywhere near 100% and Malisse is wily enough on the grass to cause problems. He didn't play that well yesterday in beating Garcia-Lopez but he's had a game now to adjust to the grass, unlike Del Potro, so I'll see just how far he can go to causing a little upset today. Kenny de Schepper vs Rajeev Ram- Tie Break in Match- 10/11 Coral- (3/10) Nicolas Mahut vs Rhyne Williams- Tie Break in Match- 5/6 Coral- (3/10) Going to try my old favourite market with these two matches as the prices look pretty high considering the players and the surfaces. Mahut as we know is a very dangerous player on the grass, and should face Andy Murray in the second round but it's very rare that his matches don't contain a tie break somewhere along the line. Big serve but returning wise he leaves a little to be desired, whilst Williams possesses a decent serve himself. He played out a tie break with de Schepper last week so think we could see a 7-6 set in that match. Whilst we should definitely see a tie break in Ram-de Schepper match as well. The Frenchman, with his lefty serve is a hard man to break, whilst Ram, with all his experience of playing in the doubles can serve well also. They met at the start of the year where there was a tie break in the first set and with quicker condition in London, I think they will play out at least one more today. Kyle Edmund (+4.5 games) vs Grega Zemlja- 11/10 Bet365- (3/10) We've seen yesterday just how impressive the Brits seem to be at Queen's and I think Kyle Edmund can go well today. He showed last year that he can play, as he beat Gimeno-Traver in the qualifiers for Wimbledon and he'll have so much support today which will be interesting to see how Zemlja copes with it. He does usually perform well on the grass, however we saw last year how he can be troubled by lower ranked players and Josh Goodall ran him close at Wimbledon. Providing Edmund doesn't struggle with nerves, I think he'll keep this one close enough and see the handicap through.

Re: June 10 - June 16 2pts L.Hewitt to beat G.Dimitrov 2.75 Bet365 I think this is going to be a close one. Both faultered in the first set of their first game but that can be expected really changing to the grass stage from clay all year. Difference is even at the end of Dimi's match he was making so many errors and got alot of net-bounces in his favour. Sela could of easily won that. Hewitt has so much experience on the grass. He is a Wimbledon winner after all :P

Re: June 10 - June 16 Schiavone vs Tatishvilli - Tatishvilli - 4.5 games Bet365 2 points win Tatishvilli to beat Schiavone 2-0 11/2 Generally 0.5 points win This looks a dodgy one from both sides of the fence as Tatishvilli hasn't won a match all year but has won matches on grass before and Schiavone perhaps lacking motivation in the smaller events but coming off the back of a run to the last 16 in Paris. Schiavone is the better player but has lost to several lower ranked players in tournaments where you felt she should have won easily. I feel that even if Schiavone wins that Tatishvilli will easily cover the handicap and if an indifferent Schiavone turns up she will herself be dispatched easily by an opponent who badly needs wins under her belt.

Re: June 10 - June 16 3pts M.Llodra vs P.Andujar - Llodra -4.5 games 1.66 Bet365 Andujar has had such a good period on the clay but when it comes to the grass he is pants! Last few games on grass? Lost to James Ward last year at Wimbledon. Including a 6-0 thrashing in 2nd set. Previous to that lost to Baghdatis 6-1 6-1 first round of Eastbourne. 2011 Wimbledon, again out in Round 1 to Ryan Sweeting and again, 2011 out in Round 1 of Eastbourne to Kunitsyn. Went out of Halle event in 2011 in round 1 to Raonic too. Basically, not won on grass since 2007 when he won a qualifier. Llodra has had far more games on grass and I think he will win this with games to spare.

Re: June 10 - June 16 Vekic to beat Urszula Radwanska 1 point win 2/1 Sportingbet Vekic to beat Radwanska 2-0 0.5 point win 4/1 Boylesports A case of a player who has won a match on grass as 16 year old Vekic has as opposed to Radwanska who is playing for the first time this year on the surface. I remember last year Randwanska won a challenger on grass but was match point down in the first round and didn't look good on the surface in that match. True she beat Vekic on a hard court 6-4 6-1 earlier this year but I feel Vekic has improved a little since then as you might expect with a 16yo and she has a better serve for grass than has Radwanska and might just on this occasion over power her. In these pre-wimbledon Tournaments anything can happen so I would advise small stakes only on this match.

Re: June 10 - June 16

Kohlschreiber v Berlocq Under 21 games - Pinnacle @ 1.75 This match features Kohlschreiber from Germany ranked 18th in the world and Berlocq ranked 72nd in the world. Firstly Kohlschreiber is from Germany so he will be comfortable here and is bound to have a good crowd supporting him. Kohlschreiber has been great here over the years and is clearly here to win and not just to warm up for Wimbledon. Kohlschreiber has been knocked out in the first round once, reached the quarter final 2 times, semi final 3 times, final once and won it recently in 2011. On the other hand Berlocq has played here once this was last year and he got knocked out in the first round against Stebe. Berlocq is certainly not a grass court specialist winning just 21.43% of his games on grass. Where as Kohlschreiber has won 66.66% of his grass court matches so he is obviously alot more comfortable on this surface. The last 4 times these two have played each other Kohlschreiber has retired once then in the previous 3 meetings he has beat Berlocq, however these were on surfaces Berlocq were much more confident on. Kohlschreiber was playing some great tennis in the French Open losing in the 4th round against Djokovic. He beat Hanescu in straight sets in the 3rd round and got a good win against Vesely in the first round. He also played some really good tennis against Djokovic, winning a set against him. He looked to be in great form and im sure he would of beaten Berlocq with ease on that day. Berlocq isnt in the best of form winning just 3 of his last 9 games, and these were all on his favoured surface of clay. He was only able to beat some very weak players. Im relativley confident Kohlschreiber will win comfortably today. Also these odds dont seem to make much sense. Kohlschreiber is odds of 1.33 to win 2-0. Where as the odds are 1.75 for under 21 Games. If he was to avoid a tie break this handicap should be covered.
Comfortable win 6-3 6-1, Kohl only dropped 2 points on his serve in the first set!

Re: June 10 - June 16 A blond day for me as I said before Schiavone beat Tatishvilli 2-6 6-3 7-6 so Tatishvilli covered the handicap easily thanks to some presents from Schiavone. Vekic beat Radwanska 6-3 6-2 landing the win and set beat (unfortunately the set bet 2-0 was better than the 4-1 I got!) Profit of 5.1 points for the day wasn't bad.

Re: June 10 - June 16 Berdych -4.5 v De Bakker - Paddy Power @ 1.83 This match features Berdych ranked 6th in the world and De Bakker ranked 91st. Firstly im not sure whether this match will go ahead today due to the awful weather forecast. However if it does not go ahead I think this will favour Berdych as he is leaving in the same house as last year with his Mum and Dad who are watching him play, therefore he will be comfortable here. Berdych has probably had the most consistent season of his career so far winning 29 matches to just 12 loses. These two have only met once and this was in 2010 in Miami where Berdych won 2 sets to 0, and would of covered this handicap. This is Berdych's first grass court match of the year but he has a good grass court record winning 38 matches to just 17 loses. Also reaching the Wimbledon final in 2010 beating Federer and Djokovic along the way. De Bakker on the other hand has only played 14 grass court matches winning 7 and losing 7. Every player Berdych has played outside the top 90 in the world rankings this season he has won in straight sets (5 Times) Berdych is in good form recently beating Djokovic and Murray on clay. Where as De Bakker has only won 4 on his last 9 matches. I think these odds may be show real value as Berdych is the much better player. Pinnacle are offering odds on the same market at 1.67! Much worst than Paddy Power's!

Re: June 10 - June 16 Back Feliciano Lopez to beat Julien Benneteau @ 2.06 >Betfair I would make Lopez the favourite for this, so as a slight underdog I'll take the Spaniard to build on his win against Berankis in the first round. He made a slow start in that match, but rallied to come through in three sets, and perhaps the extra time on court might be to his advantage against Benneteau. The Frenchman beat compatriot Mannarino in straight sets in his first match, but the first set was close and only settled on a tie-break. Although Benneteau leads the h2h convincingly, Lopez won when they played each other in this tournament a few years ago in their only meeting to date on grass. I think that bodes well for this match, and given that Lopez always seems to do well at Queen's I'm prepared to ignore the wins that Benneteau has had against him on other surfaces. Lopez's serve is a real weapon on grass, and if it fires against Benneteau then I think Lopez will make the next round. Back Nicolas Mahut to beat Andy Murray @ 7.00 >Betfair I'm backing Mahut in this match for the same sorts of reasons that I backed Malisse against Del Potro, and also because I can't ignore Mahut's win over Murray in this tournament last year. If Mahut serves well then he should be able to keep this close, and I'm not sure how much of a fight Murray will put up if he falls behind, particularly if the back problems that led to his withdrawal from the French Open reappear. Murray's early exit here last year didn't seem to affect the rest of his grass court season, as he made the Wimbledon final before winning gold at the Olympics. Although I'm sure Murray would take a few matches this year at Queen's if he was given them, Mahut is a good grass court player and he won't be giving anything away. His first match against Williams was a good warm-up, whereas this will be Murray's first match since he retired on clay against Granollers in Rome. I think Murray is far too short a price in this particular match, and whilst he should win I think the value lies with Mahut. Back Denis Istomin to beat Igor Sijsling @ 1.95 >Betfair I think Istomin is a better player on grass than Sijsling, and so a price of nearly evens about a win for him in this match looks good to me. I didn't think Sijsling was that convincing in his last match against Ito, and although Istomin also laboured in his first match against Kuznetsov, I think he is the more likely of the two to raise his game here. His record on grass in the last year or so is impressive, and he has done well at this tournament in the past, giving Nadal a real scare a few years ago. Istomin beat Sijsling when they met earlier in the year at the Australian Open, and I think he can repeat the trick here.
