Re: Cheltenham 2014.... My Input on The Bobsworth Conti debate, from a physical point of view its true that Conti isnt a stayer type and Bobworth, Long Run and Sir Des Champs are. Conti would have won on a galloping straight track Newbury but not in Cheltenham Gold Cup. There would have been a point when the stamina goes totally puff and SC fades. Its simple the principle that Bobsworth and Long Run are different build and Conti is an athlete and not a marathoner vs the best at least. Also the argument of travelling is a not a good one. Especially in staying contests you have these horses taht look like greyhounds with their head low and untidy action during travelling, but when its about staying they do and others that travell dont...

People can debate all they want for as long as they want, but the answer is this................We simply don't know what ''WOULD'' of happened, or ''COULD'' of happened. I backed Conti back in March, was sad to see him fall, but as the saying goes.................That's Racing.

Re: Cheltenham 2014.... Have to say I like W. Mullins Moyle Park for the Supreme Novice Hurdle I put a few pence on him @48s with betfair. He beat Blackmail who was backed in for last year bumper, and then he won a decent Bumper in Punchestown Festival LTO, Willie seems to have taken his time with this horse and he could have ran in last years Cheltenham bumper (I didn't know why he didn't that the time), but when willie won the Bumper with Briar hill, that sort of answered that question.

Re: Cheltenham 2014.... Chepstow this Saturday and hopefully the start of a few future Cheltenham horses. Last year 2 winners from this meeting went onto Cheltenham 2013........ Far West made his Juvenile hurdle debut here winning comfortably and went on to be 2nd in The Triumph Hurdle to Our Conner. Regal Encore won the closing flat race and was put away until Cheltenham before finishing 2nd to Briar Hill in the Champion Bumper. In 2011 2 winners went onto Cheltenham the following spring, Jackies Solitaire (finished 7th in the Fred Winter) and Cue Card (2nd to Sprinter Sacre in the Arkle). Looks to be lots of good early entries and will be watching this meeting with interest.

Re: Cheltenham 2014.... Glance through the card and nothing particularly stands out as a potential Cheltenham runner. Be surprised if the Juvenile hurdle throws up a contender and Paul Nicholls on his Betfair column say his runner Keltus is not in the same category as last years winner Far West. Maybe something from the 2 divisions of the novice hurdle but favourite in the first division Killala Quay is trained by Charlie Longsdon who while in good form does not produce Cheltenham Winners with only 1 win in the last 5 years at the track at all meetings. Of the others in this division Champagne Rian may step up and be a contender but has to prove it on the track though. In the 2nd division Potters Cross and Berkeley Barron are probably the 2 to watch. The novice chase has thrown up some good horses in the past but does not look to be anything as good this year and would take an electrifying performance from either Balder Succes or Easter Day to be considered for the future. The closing bumper may throw up a Champion Bumper horse but until after the race we will not know. Would be wary of Backing any horse for the Champion Bumper as usually a Willie Mullins runner is the one to be on. Maybe future pointers for the Welsh and English National in the 17.45, so again a race worth watching.

Keltus won the juvenile hurdle by 5l for Paul Nicholls but looked a weak field and is unlikely to be his main Triumph hurdle hope but is available at 25/1. Not a race I would advise an anti-post bet at this stage as the majority of contenders will not be known at this stage. Killala Quay won the first division of the novice hurdle by 6l but with trainer Charlie Longsdon record at Cheltenham would not advise any bet and is not quoted in any market. Closer finish to the 2nd division with the first 3 finishing within a length of each other and in a quicker time than the first division. Nothing of note for future reference from these 2 races. The novice chase was won by Balder Succes with The Romford Pele just under a length behind with these 2 well clear of third. Balder Succes has had 2 previous Festival runs but has failed to complete the course each time, fell in the Juvenile Hurdle in 2012 and unseated rider this year in the Champion Hurdle this year. These are his only 2 runs at Cheltenham and would need to show improvement on next run to justify any interest. Has quotes for both the Arkle (33\1) and the Jewson (20\1). The Romford Pele has had 1 previous festival appearance in the Champion Bumper in 2012 when a never threatening 7th. Has had 2 other runs at the track over hurdles the best in a maiden hurdle when 2nd to Court Minstrel. Available at 25\1 for The Jewson. Cannot see this horse challenging for top races at the festival but may be targeted at the Centenary Novice Handicap Chase. Oscarteea won the closing bumper for Anthony Honeyball bit probably not in the same class as last years winner.

Trainer Alan King may send Balder Succes to Cheltenham this next Saturday in a 2m novice chase under a penalty. Alan King has twice trained an Arkle winner when successful in 2006 and 2007. If Balder Success turns out at Cheltenham and wins well would need to be considered for the festival.

Re: Cheltenham 2014.... Cheltenham next Friday and Saturday bound to give a few festival clues. Fridays opening Novice hurdle last year was won by The New One who went onto to win Neptune at The Festival. The 2nd race a Novice Chase was won by Carlito Brigante who was pulled up in Novice Handicap Race at the Festival. Rebel Fitz the one to watch in this race. The 3rd race, the Pertemps Qualifier only the winner Action Master (finished 10th in final) and 7th American Spin (finished 16th in the final) went onto run in the final. Change of conditions this year may place more importance on runners been aimed at Cheltenham. Need to look at the 1st 8 finishers. The 4th race, a novice chase won by Sire Collonges went onto contest the Jewson finishing 7th. 3rd Ackertac went for the Novice handicap chase over 2m 4.5f finishing 2nd at 66\1! White Star Line was pulled up in this race but went onto to contest JLT speciality handicap chase and was 3rd. Epee Celstre was pulled up in this last year and went for Quevega mares race but was virtually last. Tour De Champs fell in this and went onto be 8th in the same race as White Star Line. The 5th race, a maiden hurdle with nothing making the festival this year. This year Regal Encore has an entry who was 2nd in the Champion Bumper this year. Onto Saturdays and again we could get a few cheltenham pointers......cards not available yet so race order may be different. 1st Race last year, a novice hurdle with the winner According to Trev going to the Pertemps Final but was pulled up. Tough race for a novice to contest. 2nd Our Vinnie was Brought Down at the Festival in the Albert Bartlett Novice. 3rd race, a hurdle race for 4yo was won by Dodging Bullets who was 9th in the Supreme novices. 5th race. 2nd Medinas won the Coral Cup at the festival at 33\1. 6th race a novice chase won by His Excellency who was 3rd in the Arkle then fell in the Grand Annual on the friday. Worth reviewing the 2 days meeting for potential Cheltenham winners.
