Re: USA > MLS - 2013 Given the lack of activity so far, I'll try and provide some commentary throughout the season. Specifically, as a Toronto FC fan, this will be my area of focus. Everyone is picking Sporting Kansas City away to Toronto FC and for good reason. TFC has been a running joke almost since it's existence. This is year 7 and we are on our 8th coach I believe. We finally hired what many to believe a competent GM and he has brought in Ryan Nelson as head coach. Because he was still playing with QPR for a month or so, pre-season started a little late and TFC are way behind when it compared to other teams. TFC still has multiple trialists in camp and just yesterday signed John Bostock on loan from Tottenham. Last weekend before their first game away to Vancouver, they signed Hogan Ephraim (loan from QPR) and Robert Earnshaw (loan from Cardiff) right before the game. They are scrambling with these loans to get a team on the field. These are quality players compared to what TFC had going in to the season however, they are still getting match fit and used to the differences with the league (long flights, aggressive/physical play, artificial turf fields). TFC's has a few key injuries in Luis Silva (CAM), Julio Ceasar (CDM), Stefan Frei (GK), and Kyle Bekker (CAM) is just getting over the flu so I doubt he'll start. This means we should see a similar line up to the team that lost 1-0 to Vancouver last week except Bostock will likely replace Bekker. SKC is projected as the top team in the Eastern Conference and rightfully so. After a slow start away to Philly last week, they had a strong last 60 minutes and came back from a goal down to win 3-1. I expect a similar score line in this game and perhaps even a win to nil for SKC as Robert Earnshaw is the only healthy striker capable of doing damage but I doubt he's 100 match fit yet. The wild card in this game is the fact that it's being played at Toronto's Roger's Centre (indoors on artificial turf) and not BMO field (due to the weather). Either way, there's plenty of value on SKC. I personally will go with the -1AH at 3.350 at Bet 365. Even a straight win at over evens looks worthwhile. Every week MLSsoccer.com's journalists make their picks and all 6 chose SKC for this game. It's the only game they all agreed on this week.

Re: USA > MLS - 2013 This round of fixtures is being dubbed "Rivalry Week" because they have scheduled almost every game to be a "derby" of sorts. Although the history won't be very relevant for the players, the fans will be charged up. Montreal Impact v Toronto FC: TFC is expecting around 5,000 travelling fans for this game (although I suspect it'll be less) and it's Montreal's home opener so the atmosphere from the supporters should be uplifting. Montreal is coming back with 6 points from (arguably) the two hardest away stadiums. They've surprised a lot of people and many are rating them much higher as a result. TFC also pulled off a shock beating SKC 2-1 at home last Saturday. I was at the game and it wasn't a convincing win and they came off a bit lucky with their goals. Rightfully, Montreal are the favourites here. However, as we saw last week, anything can happen and I don't think the 1.61 (bet 365) for Montreal is anywhere near value. Therefore, it's a no bet for me. Other Games: Just to quickly give you my thoughts on the other games: - NY vs. DC - Another rivalry game and NY is going to be under a lot of pressure to win after a bad start. Another no bet for me. - SKC vs. Chi - I think SKC will be desperate to put the Toronto game behind them and will outclass Chicago who has started poorly so far. It's also their home opener and the crowd will provide good support. SKC at evens (bet365) looks okay to me. - Philly vs. NE - Another tough call. Could go either way so if I were to bet, I'd probably do NE in some sort of DNB or handicap. - Columbus vs. SJ - Although they lost to Vancouver, I thought Columbus showed some bright moments and Higuain is a very dangerous player. I was hoping the bookies would make this a split game or favour SJ so their would be better value on Columbus but that's not the case. SJ got pretty lucky with their win against NY last week and I'm not convinced they are as solid as they were last year. Still, 2.30 (bet 365) isn't bad for the home team and might be worth consideration. - RSL v. Colorado - Colorado has already lost to two pretty weak/mediocre teams and RSL should see points in this one. It's their home opener so the crowd should be fired up and since RSL has some fire power at their disposal, I think the -1 AH at 2.250 (bet 365) is worth a look. - Seattle v Portland - Along side Toronto/Montreal this will be another marquee "rival" game with a crazy atmosphere. I think Seattle are the favourites on paper but 1.53 is far too low especially considering they had a big mid week champions league game on Tuesday. I'd say no bet here but if you're thinking about it, I think the handicap or DNB on Portland offers the best value. - Dallas v Houston - Another rivalry game but I'm not sure how big it is. Dallas is crap but I guess they've been made favourites since Houston played (and lost 3-0) Wednesday night in Mexico as part of the champions league. However, they were rested last weekend so I think the effects won't be too bad and they are value at 3.25 (bet 365). DNB might be a safer option though. - LA vs. Chivas - Another rivalry game but I don't think Chivas even have that many fans. LA are rightfully the heavy favourites and even though they played a mid week champions league game (at home), I think they should win easily. I'd take LA -1 AH at 1.97 (bet 365). Good luck if you decide to play this weekend.

Re: USA > MLS - 2013 Montreal - NY What a great game is coming on. Montreal is only team with all 3 wins so far and Marco Di Vaio plays like in his best days.On the other side NY has great players, they playing good but they are not that lucky. In last round they have a lot of good chances against DC but result was 0-0. Espinola and Henry are great attack players who can easily score. Both teams are playing very open so in this game Im expecting over 2.5 goals.

Re: USA > MLS - 2013

Toronto FC has a bye this week so no real comments from me other than be wary of key players being away for international duty.
Dallas - RSL Real Salt Lake Suspended: None Doubtful: None Injured/Unavailable: Morales (knee), Borchers (quad), Wingert (knee), Saborio (Costa Rica national team), Mansally (Gambia national team), Rimando (United States national team), Beckerman (United States national team), Beltran (United States national team) Odds are good for HW ,what are your thoughts?

Re: USA > MLS - 2013 Okay just a quick write up before I head down to BMO field to watch TFC vs. LA Galaxy. Toronto vs. LA: TFC are very lucky to face LA right now. Robbie Keane is out injured and Landon Donovan has just joined the team this week so there's no way he starts (might be used as a late sub). These two represent a huge attacking threat. Without them, LA have to turn to their teenaged strikers Villareal and McBean. Last week they couldn't score against Colorado at home (won 1-0 on a penalty scored by Magee). They are now playing in cool 11 degrees celsius weather away from home and this might have a factor on the young Cali boys. In addition to the attacking issues, LA might rest their best defender Omar Gonzalez who played in both USA national games including this past Tuesday's game in Mexico. He just joined the team Thursday and since they have a huge Champions league game on Wednesday, they might give him a break here. TFC is coming off a bye week so they've had plenty of time to rest and get the team more organized. We were missing three players due to international duty - Morgan (Canada LB), Bekker (Canada CM), O'Dea (Ireland CB) however none of them played many minutes and only Morgan and O'Dea are starters for TFC. I expect we'll play with them on the bench to start as we have decent cover for LB and CB. Given all the above info, I find a ton of value in the odds on Toronto. 3.40 for TFC at home (bet365) looks good if you're feeling risky. I think the TFC +0.5 AH @ 1.650 or DNB @ 2.20 look to be safer options that still offer good returns. Also, with LA's younger attackers and TFC's often defensive approach U.25 goals @ 1.825 might be worth consideration. 2 of TFC's 3 games have gone over but the SKC game had a penalty and the Montreal game had two penalties. LA's last two games have come in under at 1-1 and 1-0. Colorado vs. Portland: I'm not an expert on these two teams but what I do know is that Colorado is without 7 starting players for this game due to injuries and suspensions. In particular, they are without their two first choice centre backs and goalie and since Portland is an attacking team this could spell trouble. Colorado lost last week (1-0) to a weakened LA (see above) and haven't won yet (2 losses and 1 tie). Portland have two ties against good teams (New York and Seattle) and one loss to league leading Montreal. Personally, I rate Portland much higher and I'm surprised they are the underdogs for the bookies. It might have to do with the playing conditions in Colorado (cold, elevation etc.) but I still think the value for Portland is good given the missing 7 starters. 3.80 (bet 365) for the away win looks enticing but once again a DNB @ 2.37 or +0.5 AH @ 1.65 are the safer options considering anything can happen in this league. Given the missing CB for Colorado I might even take a cheeky punt at -1 AH @ 6.40. Remember, anything can happen in this league so don't be the farm but these picks are my two cents for the week. Good luck and enjoy the games.

Re: USA > MLS - 2013 Portland Timbers pk at odds 2.49 Pinnacle Hosts are in a very bad shape. Not only their play was poor at the start of the season, they have ton of injuries to key starting players. Even with them in line up Rapids don't control the ball, and always lose in possesion and shots on target category. As home team, you ususally want this to be your strength, not weakness. Their starting GK is a third option, defenders are young and not very good, so you can't expect strong showing and lack of mistakes from them. So what we have here, is team that's not very good when healthy, and in this game there will be 4-5 starters missing, with bad young players taking their place. Portland looks great in this matchup, they've been very tough to beat, but weren't able to get away with many points. Part of the problem was that they were playing good teams, and felt behind for no reason. But in this match they will definately have confidence and skill advantage to take 3 points on away soil. I really like their chances, cause they are desperate for victory, while their opponents are very weak. Risky option is to take Portland win for 3.58, but I prefer to stick with safer one. There is no way they should be underdogs here. Over 2.5 goals seems legit option too. Montreal Impact pk at odds 3.19 Pinnacle This is going to be very interesting game. Montreal is on a very unexpected run of 4 straight wins to start the season. Coaching change made big difference and now this team is an elite one, ready to make playoffs and be right at the top. But still their run must end soon and Sporting KC seems like the team to do it. That has to be reasoning behind odds but I feel completely different. Unexpected or not, their streak is result of their quality and confidence. They've been playing their game and opponents just can't deal with it. Veteran striker Di Vaio is in perfect shape. He have great awareness and feel of the game and he uses his main weapon exceptionally well against weak and unexpirienced MLS defenders. Italian have multiple scoring opportunities every match, and realisation is excellent in last couple of matches. Midfielders provide great support and know how to get him the ball in dangerous areas. Their defence is great, with Nesta and Ferrari leading the way. Nesta got injured, but the effort is there even without him. When he is healthy, this is by far the best defence in the league. As for Sporting, things are not looking so good. They have their key players returning from national duty. Adding to this is their weak bench players, who failed to deliever in offence. The team is scoreless for 2 straight games and guys like Sapong and Saad are not game changers off the bench. Despite keeping clean sheet, their defence has some problems in it too. Jerome Mechack and Oriol Rossell are young players, and definately not in the same skill category as Italian veterans of Montreal. The way I see it, Montreal is a stronger team at the moment, and have everything going for them. Their opponents, despite being very strong home team, have some rusty key players, weak spots in their strating line up, and problems with scoring the ball. Even though under 2,5 seems to be super obvious choice, I think neither of teams will play it safe and we may see crazy things happening. So my final choice is to take road team +0, because odds are too sweet to pass on it. Houston Dynamo win at 2.06 with Pinnacle Start of the season has been hard for many "powerhouse" teams of last season. San Jose is one of them, and they already lost some points. Wondolowski finally found his touch, but he missed many chances. In my opinion, last season was a pinnacle of his career and he probably won't improve or even repeat this kind of perfomance. Same goes for his team. They already have some young and unexpirienced players who are starting (Fucito and Harden), and their bench is very weak. Their coach don't even use 1 substitute in some games, and guys who usually come in (Attakora, Gargan, Jahn, Garza, Cato) are not much of a spark. With all this in mind, Houston looks much better in this matchup. They are a very strong home team coming of a win against Vancouver. Their midfield is rock solid and they have good rotation of quality players. Dominating midfield will be key for Houston, because Quakers are not very versatile with their formation and style of play. They use regular 4-4-2 and won't be looking to play in more defensive manner. This will allow Houston to put extra pressure and create more chances to score. I believe this game will end with Houston win and more than 2.5 goals scored. But SJ is a team that is capable of scoring and they were best road team last season, so safer option with -0.25 or DNB also makes sense.

Re: USA > MLS - 2013 SEATTLE +0.5 AT ODDS 1.69 Seattle had a very rough start. Now with no distractions and absences team focus is solely on getting results and points in MLS. This is a very deep and talented team and they acquired Obafemi Martens to add to their impressive attack. With so many talented players offensive woes will stop soon, and players are very motivated to end this bad streak. This game is believed to be decided in the midfield, but Seattle have nice advantage there. Injury to Morales, and guys like Gil and Velasquez in RSL line up, who are not very good and been the main reason behind their weak offense. Their central defenders are also not very impressive, so it will be very tough for hosts to get something out of this game. If Seattle show their true level today, they will dominate this away game. They've been very good at it last season, and RSL is nothing special at the moment.

Re: USA > MLS - 2013 The MLS.com editors have all made their picks and they seem to agree on a lot of the outcomes. http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2013/04/12/pick-em-mlssoccercom-editors-pick-mls-week-7-matches Philly vs. Toronto: Although 5 editors picked a Philly win and the other picked a draw, I think this game could go either way. Toronto's top RB Richard Eckersley is likely out due to hamstring injury. For some reason, he's been playing LB the last few games and hasn't been too effective so with natural LB Ashton Morgan replacing him, it shouldn't be too big of a loss. Ideally, Morgan should play LB and Eckersley should play RB but the coach has recently preferred Eckersley out of position and playing Darel Russel in his RB spot instead. Russel isn't a natural defender and he's been burned in back to back games and will be a liability in this game. Thankfully, it looks like Luis Silva is finally fit enough to regain his starting place in the midfield and will likely replace the injured Dunfield. Luis Silva adds creativity and is an attacking threat and TFC desperately needs him now. It's been reported TFC might shuffle some of their attacking players around (moving Hogan Ephraim out to wing and bringing John Bostock in to a CAM role) to create more synergies and I think this will really help. TFC has been complaining about the "sticky" pitch at our home field and they have pointed to it as one of the reasons the attack hasn't been firing on all cylinders. With a decent pitch in Philly, I expect TFC will create some chances and might nick a goal or two. I'm not well versed on Philly but they are an average side. They are only a few points up the table on TFC and in my opinion, they've had a far easier schedule thus far. Some bets that might be worthwhile are as follows (all bet365): - Both Teams to Score @ 1.80 - TFC +0.5 AH @ 2.00 - Jack McInerney (philly) any time goalscorer @ 3.00 - Robert Earnshaw (tfc) any time goalscorer @ 3.60 Personally, I'm going to watch in play and the only bets I've placed beforehand are: Robert Earnshaw Anytime Scorecast with Toronto 1-0 @46.00 (very low stakes) Robert Earnshaw Anytime Scorecast with Toronto 2-0 @46.00 (very low stakes) Robert Earnshaw Anytime Scorecast with Toronto 2-1 @ 31.00 (very low stakes) Quick thoughts on some of the other games: - Seattle is underpriced home to New England - Seattle had a heartbreaking champions league loss Tuesday night in Mexico and they are still missing some key players. They are the better team but I'd suggest watching in play to see how the game swings. New England also announced one of their top players was diagnosed with Leukaemia this week so that could either be a distraction or something to rally behind. Similarly with Seattle, maybe the CL loss will be a motivator. - Vancouver and Real Salt Lake is a toss up and seems to be priced appropriately. - FC Dallas vs. LA Galaxy - LA had a heart breaking CL loss on Wednesday night in Mexico and thats why imagine they are under dogs. I would expect the odds to be closer in a normal situation. I think FC Dallas is overrated but they are quick so they could burn LA who might have tired legs. Probably a no bet or an in-play for me. - Chivas vs Colorado - Colorado keep surprising me but I think I'm going to oppose them again as I like Chivas who have a young, creative, attack minded team made up primarily of players with latin/mexican heritage and they seem to offer something different than most MLS sides. 2.25 at home seems decent but i'll probably bet in play to try and get better odds and a read for how the game is going. Good luck to anyone who has a go this week.

Re: USA > MLS - 2013 Here's this week's picks by the MLS.com team http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2013/04/19/pick-em-mlssoccercom-editors-pick-week-8-matches Toronto vs. Houston: Toronto could be in some serious trouble here. Our first choice RB (Eckersely) is injured, our first choice LB (Morgan) is suspended and our second choice (Russel) to replace either of those two is injured as well. New signing and Richter will likely get a start (very young and inexperienced at this level) and the other full back will either be a very young and inexperienced Emory who is returning from shoulder surgery or one of our CB depth players being asked to play out wide. Whomever they line up, it's going to be a less than ideal back line. Also, if anyone on the back line should get injured/tired and need to come out, the quality is going to drop even further. Houston is a much better team and they have strong wing play which makes TFC's full back issues an even bigger problem. Houston's Garcia might not start as he's just returned from injury and TFC should count themselves lucky if that's still the case. Even if he doesn't start or even make it off the bench, Houston is a far superior team who can do damage to TFC. As you can tell, I really like Houston in this match up but the only thing that has me a little worried is the cold/windy weather today in Toronto. If Houston can cope with the cold and the wind then they should win. Personally I like Houston -1 AH @ 3.350 (Bet 365). However, if money is tight, you might want to stick with the 1.61 draw no bet for Houston as it still offers decent value with the cover. Good luck if you play any MLS games this weekend.

Re: USA > MLS - 2013 FC DALLAS vs VANCOUVER WHITECAPS FC Dallas are 1st in the West Conference with 16 points from 7 games and goal difference 11:7. So far their balance is 5-1-1. At home they are performing just great 4-0-0 and goal difference 7:2. Vancouver also had a great start of the season. They won their first 2 matches, but then they lost two games in a row. Vancouver made 2 draws in their last 2 games. Whitecaps are 5th in the table. Last weekend Dallas achieved very important 1:0 victory over L.A. Galaxy. The Whitecaps made a 1:1 draw at home with Real Salt Lake. Dallas are dreaming about winning the title this season, but to achieve this they have to keep playing the same way. Those two teams had met 5 times so far and the balance is 4-0-1 in favor of FC Dallas. In fact Vancouver had never scored a goal at FC Dallas Stadium. Dallas and Vancouver are playing again next weekend, this time at Vancouver’s stadium. No doubt the winner in this match will have some kind of psychological advantage in the next game. FC Dallas’s coach can use his best players in this match. For Vancouver out is their midfielder and captain Jay DeMerit. The leader of the Vancouver’s goalscorers list Kenny Miller (3/2) and center forward Corey Hertzog (3/1) are both doubtful. Whitecaps away balance so far is 0-1-2. Considering that now they are visiting one of the best home sides in MLS which is fighting for the title, I don’t think that Vancouver can take something positive from this match. My pick: 1 @1.79 at Pinnacle

Re: USA > MLS - 2013 New York RB-Whitecaps Any thoughts on this game will be appreciated.I see that the Whitecaps have lost 12 of their last 14 games on the roads.More than that they have been hit by an injury crysis with some big absences like Reo-Coker,Darren Mattocks,DeMerit,Koffie and Salgado.I can see that Espindola will play tonight with henry upfront.New York are on the top of the table and with all this major missings in the away team i think it should be a comfortable home win and -1AH is about 1.75 with bet365

Re: USA > MLS - 2013 Columbus Crew v Houston Dynamo Really tough for Houston here, they are without Brad Davis (11-3-2) on the left of midfield and Boniek Garcia ( 9-0-2) on the other flank, both on international duty. Central defender Bobby Boswell is suspended (12-0-0), he has missed just 8 games in the last three seasons, with Dynamo going 1-4-3 in his absence, conceding 13 goals, two or more in five of those. The situation is further complicated by the loss of another central defender in Jermain Taylor ( 10-0-0) and if, as seems likely, left back Corey Ashe (13-0-0), also misses out it will be terribly difficult to overcome in a stadium where they have not won since 2007. Ashe was listed as out all week and did not train until yesterday, but might be able to play some part, he has missed just two starts in 13 months, a 3-1 loss at Philly and 2-0 defeat in Colorado. With three strikers Calen Carr, Omar Cummings and Cam weaver all still sidelined too, options are really limited. We spoke about Crew ahead of their recent trip to Toronto: "Crew arrive here on the back of home defeats to Red Bulls and Rapids, but could hardly ask for a better opponent on the road, given TFC's dismal record and how Columbus have totally dominated the series, they have only ever lost to the Reds in 17 h2h meetings are are unbeaten ( 2-5-0) in games in Ontario. I think they were unfortunate to lose those two games, they were unbeaten in 12 home starts prior to that and outshot their opponent massively in both defeats, with a combined 37 attempts on goal and had enough chances to have won both, They are without central defender Chad Marshall (10-0-0) and striker Jairo Arrietta, left back Agustin Viana and defensive midfielder Danny O'Rourke, all of which is going to leave them vunerable defensively." They edged that 1-0 and followed up with a fine 2-2 draw at New York Red Bulls, where they led until the "fat lady" was just about to start her act and this looks a perfect opportunity to get back on track at home. They will be without hard working Eddie Gaven (10-0-3) on the right flank and striker Dominic Oduro (12-6-0) is a doubt, but Jairo Arrieta (9-1-3) who was with the Costa Rica national team in midweek returns, as does Gláuber (12-0-1) who missed the match in the Big Apple due to suspension. They have options for their missing and the situation is far worse for Dynamo, who may be forced to play one or two out of position and all 4-5 named above are not only starters, but key. Columbus Crew -0.25 ball
